Description

In the autumn of 2008, Dior launches Dior Homme Sport, presented as a fresh and explosive fragrance devoted to younger population. Dior Homme Sport fragrance enhances the free spirit of a young man and is announced as an explosive citrus fragrance with a woody base and ginger accord, which follows the tradition of Dior Homme aromas. Presented as a fresh scent of luxury, it comes in the same bottle as its predecessor. The face of the campaign is actor Jude Law. It is available as 50 and 100ml EDT.

The creator of this edition is Francois Demachy, who found his inspiration in the special flavors of red pepper from the U.S.A. The original idea was to create a fragrance that evokes the feeling and sensation that we have while eating candy. Very spicy, burning effects with fresh burst that simply make you breathe deeply.

The top notes are aromas of grapefruit, bergamot, elemi resin and Sicilian lemon. The heart includes Atlas cedar and vetiver with ginger, while base notes include sandalwood accords with pronounced aromas of rosemary and lavender.

The foremost Dior sport. Superlative in smell. Unparalleled in freshness. Matchless in longevity. It is the original and frankly it vanquishes the other two whatever their names are I can’t remember

Opens out wonderfully with a very strong citrusy notes. Lemon, grapefruit, lime are very bright and intense but beautiful balanced with spicy, aromatic notes. Timeless compostion!

This is a nice mass pleasing warm weather scent for daytime. Performance isn’t so great and the smell is inferior from the rest Dior Homme line scents. Quite generic but with great versatility.
It’s all about strong ginger with citruses.
There are numerous other more interesting scents..

Fresh and juicy and slightly fruity, this fragrance smells fantastic, the ginger and citrus notes here are very present but ginger is what pops out in this fragrance.Im not really a big fan of citrusy and fresh fragrances but this one might be my favorite one so far, definitely try this one out when you get the chance.Id rate this fragrance a 8/10

My fiancee found a bottle (someone forgot it and i understand why you’d forget a sh*tty fragrance like this) so i had this for free, and i have to say if i didn’t get this for free, i would never ever have bought this.. It just smells cheap (Hugo Boss Red) but less sweet and less oriental, this just smells like a cheap MEXX sport fragrance and lets just do not talk about performance okay? Because it SUCKS. give it 30 minutes and it is GONE. As other people said it just starts to smell cheap/stink after 10+ minutes.
Oh also: The nozzle sucks it, it is uncomfortable to spray with as it is way too wet.
Do not buy this unless you get it for free

I got the 2012 version after trying several Dior samples. I did not care for Dior Homme Intense at all, but this seemed like a pleasant, sexy scent. To me, the ginger really stands out. I was extremely disappointed with the longevity of my bottle, but maybe it is just the batch (4X02). I wouldn’t buy again for this reason.

I think I have a review buried in here from long ago, but it’s now at least 7 years later and I’m still wearing this stuff as if it were brand new. I love the 2008 version. The other versions are also good, especially 2012, but 2008 is my favorite. This is the one to go for if you like the ginger note in DHS. 2008 is fronted by a bright, vibrant ginger. Coupled with grapefruit, it creates a greatly energizing fragrance with a pleasantly tart quality. The dry down consists of clean woods, a vetiver note standing out the most among the base. Personally, I get something of a watery, aquatic texture in the sillage of 2008, though the smell is more along the lines of citrus and ginger. As its forefather (Homme), Sport was also perhaps a bit ahead of its time as it still smells as modern and up to date in 2018 as it did in 2008. For the 8 years that I’ve owned this, it’s consistently ranked in my top 20. Projection and longevity are solid. Recommended as a blind buy–and NOW–as there still seems to be a decent supply of 2008 bottles available. That will surely change over the next couple of years. Thumbs up (obviously!). Final rating 9.5/10.

I was avoiding DHS 2012 because I hated the performance despite enjoying the scent. However, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a cheap tester on eBay before the prices went up. But low and behold… I received an old freakin bottle of the original DHS! I was pissed for a second, but after a few days… nevermind, I love this stuff!
This is a firm notch above 2012 in terms of performance; it’s no contest. It’s missing that touch of iris, but I wasn’t too in love with that in the 2012 anyways. The citruses just last way longer in this one, and I get more time with my favorite part of both fragrances: the ginger.
I really don’t understand why they messed with this formula in 2012, nevertheless stripping the original identity of DHS completely with the 2017 formulation. I respect the idea of trying to evolve with the times, but IMO the 2008 version of DHS would have certainly stood the test of time. Had they more faith, I feel like this would still be on many people’s list of “ol’ standbys” for summer, along with the likes of Versace Man Eau Fraiche for example.

This is very fresh, sporty fragrance. To me you can wear it very easily in winter weather as well, in gym or in door sports.
It starts with burst of bergamot, I own essential oil of bergamot and it smells very similar, there is lemon zesty vibe in top notes but it’s mostly bergamot, in heart to top notes it’s more ginger. Overall it is very citrus sports fragrance.
IMO, women can easily wear this without any problem.
For those who are facing performance issue, I would suggest that layer it with molecular 01 this will definitely boost the performance. 3-4 sprays are max do not over spray it, that won’t give you more performance other than headache.

Fresh fruity and clean with a nice sandalwood undertone.. It is one of the most well rounded fragrances. Light silage but becomes stronger in the heat and great longevity for a fresh scent. Delicious lady killer and perfect for work. 8.5/10
Edit: Wow this stuff just lasts on my skin for hours and hours and my skin drinks fragrance juice like no other.

Made for after-gym, yet you could walk around the office with it, too. The ginger prevails all the time, reminding you it’s “sport”. Then the sandalwood and lavender mellows it enough for a summer party.

This is a very fresh and enjoyable scent. I’m not going to pretend that it’s anything special, but it really is quite attractive.
The amalfi lemon, ginger and elemi really help make this a solid cologne for comfort.
Great for dates, people love it.

This is yet another summery perfume, based around initial notes of citrus, layered with lavender, strengthened by a Woody base. It’s a typical summer scent and nothing ground breaking but yet elegant as expected from Dior.
Good projection and longevity, and very smooth too.
Good quality but nothing new here

I’ve heard a lot about this one, then I decided to try. And to be sincere, it was just like a “Meh…”, I mean, after 30 minutes it totally disappeared. If you’re looking for a casual scent with ginger notes, try L’homme by Yves Saint Laurent.
I was disappointed with this one, from the Dior Homme Line it’s the worst.

  21. :

    5 out of 5

This one isn’t quite as different from the 2012 version as I was expecting. I really enjoy that one, and is one of the first smells I kind of fell for when I started my fragrance journey. In fact when I first sprayed the 2008 one I thought I got ripped off, because the opening was so similar. That didn’t last too long, though.
It smells as if the 2012 version just has a slightly sweet, velvety iris blanket wrapped around the base of the 2008. I love them both, and I’m not sure I could even say which one I prefer.
The ginger in this one, without competing with the iris, is just so damn juicy. I wish ginger was used in perfumes like this more often.
Now as for longevity…it is insane. Little story:
I woke up feeling a tad hungover, and the crisp ginger of this one seemed the perfect fit to help nurse it. Twice, behind each ear, and then 1 on my shirt (which I changed out of). Kept getting nice wafts of it here and there, seemed to keep with me well enough. Evening came and I had a party to attend, and since it was 12+ hours later, I didn’t even think of how I applied it in the morning. Threw on a bit of DHI (it was a Dior Homme day apparently), evening goes on, starts getting pretty warm, floor opened up to dancing, and I kid you not…ALL I smelled was Dior Homme sport. 12 hours later, over top of Dior Homme Intense, this was all I smelled.

It is a nice and fresh fragrance.
On the first spray, you could smell sour orange scent maybe due to the notes of grapefruit, bergamot and amalfi lemon.
But after a few minutes, you could smell soothing scent.
For cold weather, it will make you feel warmth and for hot weather it will make you feel fresh.

Vintage dior. The best of the summer/sport release by far too bad its been discontinued. Although the 2nd release was not too bad i like this better as it performs well and very summery. It’s a good thing i stacked 5 bottles of this when it was still available. And by the way dont associate with prada’s luna rosa no similarities at all.
Edit i was lucky enough to come across of 2more 100ml tester bottles of this. I cant imagine not having this one as this is my signiture summer scent, so i guess im secured.

Dont worry. Its nothing like Luna Rossa. The later has no orange/citrus whatsoever. Is more like Allure homme sport but less sweet. Anyway nothing of Dior comes any closer to Prada.

There is nothing unique here for me. Smells like a lot of other colognes. I get a strong powder smell. After reading reviews, I had hopes of finding a Sport scent that I might like.

    Dior Homme Sport 2008 Review:
DHS starts out wonderfully with a very strong lemon note. I find that a lot of citrus openings can be too sharp and harsh sometimes. Fortunately, this is not the case with this fragrance. The lemon is bright and smooth. It immediately grabs your attention without having the abrasive feel that some openings have. It’s done perfectly.
The ginger note follows the opening, moving to the forefront of the fragrance. It mixes with with lemon making for a spicy, sweet, and slightly sour smell. It’s an amazing composition that stands out on it’s own in a market that has countless “fresh” fragrances trying to achieve the same goal. This just does it better. It’s an energizing and invigorating smell, that will keep your attention for the length of your wearing.
I think this is a scent that will appeal to the majority of people in their 20’s and 30’s. That being said, anyone can wear this one. It’s fresh, but at the same time very classy. This would fit perfectly in a number of situations. These situations could range from work to a date at the park on a beautiful Summer’s day.
This is currently my second favorite “Sport” fragrance. It sits only behind the masterpiece Encre Noire Sport. Sadly, I haven’t tried the 2012 version yet. This one is definitely a hit though.
    Best Age Group- 25+
    Best Season(s)- Spring/Summer
    Occasions- Casual, Work, Dates, Formal
    Projection/Sillage- Moderate
    Longevity- 8 Hours

Bought DHS (pre-2008) for Hubbs, after much searching and trialling. He still wears it, and it always smells fresh, elegant and understated. It is well-mannered and doesn’t attempt to take over a room, but has a wonderful warmth and depth when you get up close. He tends to use it for evenings, so the longevity is never an issue – it lasts as long as it needs to.
I think it smells way more expensive than it actually is, and it doesn’t ‘shout down’ my perfume, either. As I have asthma, I have to be very picky about which perfumes he, and I, can use – some people’s perfume (usually the so-called ‘modern’ synthetics) can, quite literally, take my breath away. Dior Homme Sport (original) gets my vote 10/10 on all fronts.
As the new version doesn’t seem to hack it, I shall have to start looking for an acceptable replacement.

  34. :

If you are lucky enough to happen upon the 2008 version and not the new version, you have a jewel. Take ginger which isn’t a first choice for a fresh scent and make it fun and zesty and classy and sporty all at once. Reminds me almost of ginger ale in the best way possible. Have a bottle in reserve once this one runs out.

A masterpiece of simple ingredients, the most elegant yet sport enough fragrance in my collection and favorites. Better quality than the new 2012 more irisy version. This one more oily lemon scent says: “I’m not just another citrus blend, I’m more than a scent that you can wear casually, I’m versatile enough to satisfy your expectations any time”
The 2012 version loses the spark of the balanced face between sport and elegance with a boring iris line.
Great scent if you like elegant citruses, but a little hard to find now.
Longevity: 10 to 12 hours (1 spray each back of the earlobe)
    Sillage: Medium (2 foot)
    9/10

  37. :

This is what YSL L’homme Sport should’ve smelt like because of the ginger.
For the noney, this is the most boring, average fragrance I’ve tried in a long time.
The performance is also pretty bad but I wouldn’t expect much for a citrus.
Even the opening isn’t great, but from there it just gets worse and worse as it develops. Don’t waste your money on this and buy Versace PH or Man Eau Fraiche if you want a citrus, plus they perform better and are cheaper.

I had the chance to sniff this guy out a bit at Sephora.. I was actually looking for the new formula of Dior Homme Sport which I actually prefer but Sephora had a old tester bottle of the original Sport instead.. So I went ahead and sprayed a tiny bit on my wrist.. Dior Homme Sport opens up very bright and fresh and invigorating.. This fragrance opens up with a blast of all different types of citruses, bergamot, grapefruit, and lemon.. I also detect a decent amount of elemi resin which lends its own touch to the scent.. There is a very nice strong ginger that becomes one with the citruses.. There are also slight hints of woods to give the scent a base, and very mild aromas of lavender and rosemary.. But overall Dior Homme Sport is all about citrus and ginger! I can detect somewhat of a relation to the Dior Homme line although the overall scent is very different.. The new Sport has a lot more of the Dior Homme DNA, but this is still very nice.. Dior Homme Sport also does perform quite well, especially for a citrus fragrance.. I do enjoy this scent a lot but I think Dior did an even better job with the new formula which I prefer because of the lovely Iris note that this original formula does not contain..

Right now smelling a 2008 Version of this I just found on ebay and I must say that it smells wonderful, like a mix between Dior homme intense, Lemons and Flowers. The Iris is so much stronger in this version as compare to the 2012 version. If you like Dior HOmme Intense Turned up a bit, then this is for you, I definitely recommend.

The summer heat just passed me by here in Canada, and I got my hands on this bottle just when the cool autumn breeze came in. Although this is marketed as a “sport” fragrance, Dior does an amazing job of making this scent so unbelievably versatile, same with the 2012 version (see also my review for that). This scent can go for casual or formal, easily can be worn by any crowd. It smells so great that I might just pull it out on an autumn day for work.
The original has a very sharp, natural lemon/ginger opening which has a bit of spice to it, which I like a lot. There are floral notes as well, but its is mainly dominated with the ginger/ lemon combo. I find that very refreshing in the heat of summer. It last and projects pretty well. From what I remember, I could still smell it on my skin 6 to 8 hours after applying.
Christian Dior is an amazing house and this is another one of there many great scents.

Sephora has the original Dior Homme Sport on display as a TESTER! Tried to get them to sell me the tester but they wouldn’t… Original is way better than the 2012 reformulation, more of a crisp lemon, more projection and lasting power.

Well this fragrance gives me a mixed feeling. It took me forever to write this review here because on one side I love the scent but hate the performance.
When you sniff the bottle, you can immediately tell that this is a well made combination of ingredients that makes sort of you’re wearing something expensive. The top notes you get that lemon and grapefruit dominating and after a while, the ginger kicks in and gives it a warm spicy feeling to the scent, which is nice and would even be nicer if the ginger stays for a longer period of time. The drydown to the base note is just too generic for me, you get that lemon fading and the lavender and cedar note giving it a flowery background to the citrus.
The longevity and sillage is where this fragrance disappoints me the most. Average longevity, 5-6 hours in an air conditioned office space. Moderate sillage, you kind of have to look for the smell to find it and after 3 hours, it dies down to a very minimum projection.
I have to say, this scent is to die for. It’s citrusy but it’s also sophisticated at the same time, weird huh? I would say this is very versatile fragrance that can be worn almost anytime, special occasion, date, office, gym, etc. This is more like elegant to me than it is a sport fragrance.
Overall, the best citrus scent I have ever sniffed. citrusy yet sophisticated, sweet yet warming. I just wish DHS can perform better, then it will be a perfect to-go fragrance.
    Longevity : 6/10 (3 sprays)
    Sillage : 4/10
    Scent : 10/10

This is my summer signature – for as long as my two remaining bottles last. This is about as simple as it gets – lemon, ginger, and some (albeit synthetic) sandalwood. But these three elements shine in this fragrance. It’s not as original or daring as many niche fragrances, but it represented a virtual oasis in places like Sephora when it was still available. Miles better than any other fresh designer fragrance.
I only wish I could kick Demachy in the cojones for reformulating this and its namesake, the original Dior Homme.

  58. :

Just a word of caution, I think Dior is waaaay too hyped. So with that, I wanted to liked this. All Dior Homme Sport smells like to me is flowers. Not that that is a terrible scent, at all. It’s just too floral for me. Kind of reminds me of something my grandmother would wear.
However, for a Spring/Summer scent, Homme Sport knocks it out of the park. They nailed it. This is what Spring smells like.

This little number caught me off guard. I was ion the market for a sporty fragrance that I could wear on the regular for summer and not waste my more “executive” smelling summer frags. I tried this, Versace Pour Homme and Chanel Allure Homme sport. I liked VPH the best and bought it a few months later I had a glass or ginger ale and I realized it immediately made me think of Dior Homme Sport (2008). I was able to smell it again and I must say I love this stuff now, just ordered a 3.4oz after I found out no one is selling the old version in favor for the new more grown up less fun version that’s honestly lost its zest if I can be honest. I swear the nose works in mysterious ways. I give it a 10/10 for smell, not many frags remind me of my favorite carbonated beverage, 7/10 for longevity, lasts around 6 to 7 hours and a 8/10 for versatility, I could wear this in a shirt and board shorts or in a suit. Its got class and playfullness

There are a lot of fakes out there of the original version. I already received two of them. I still have my 2008 DHS and it smells nothing like the fakes. The new version smells great. However, the 2008 to me is alot more potent.

After the lemon explosion at the beginning dies down, the mid section is where it shines best.Smells like a fruity herbal tea that has been scented with “iris sugar”…Lasts longer in the summer in the colder months the longevity and projection is lacking.

I never wrote a review on this because I kind of did a double review under the 2012 version. In that review in the end I placed each on an even level, different but in the end both equally great. I now kinda take that back. Looking at the name dh “sport”…this version is superior. The 2012 version is dh, but its not sport. No other fragrance except maybe aqva gives me omf in hot weather like dhs2008. Its so fresh, so clean and at the same time chic. While 2012 is definitely chic there is nothing sport about it. I actually find it draining in oppressive heat rather than uplifting. Both are great like I previously reviewed, but if one must claim the name dhsport, its this one. The dhs 2012 should have been another flanker in the dh line called something else.

I haven’t had to much time with this one but what I have noticed so far is this is only a sport fragrance for about 30 minutes. After that amount of time the fresh lemon goes away and it almost becomes very sweet. It’s a great scent, I just don’t think its a sport at all.

I never made it past 30 min. I felt like someone was trying to drown me in lemonjuice. The lemon smells very natural but is far to strong and sharp for me. There is some flowers and some ginger aswell. The flower notes are nice but a bit feminine. I doent like the ginger.

Ooh, this one opens nicely! There is a citrusy burst that is lightly sweet and pleasant. It gradually develops into a lemony-ginger scent with a hint of jasmine beneath. Dior Homme Sport is not a strong fragrance, but it has decent longevity that keeps you feeling clean. I’m still not sure whether I am sold on this fragrance. However, I have found that the like to dislike ratio is roughly 1:1 among the female sales associates I surveyed that day at Sephora, Macy’s, and Bloomingdale’s.

Went to the duty free and sprayed D&G The One Sport on my left wrist and Dior Homme Sport on my right wrist.
D&G top note was sweeter due to the aquatic and Dior top note was spicy and citrusy due to the ginger and lemons.
I’ll get to the base because I was so busy looking at other items at the duty free. I decided to buy the Dior but after 4 hours I can still smell the sweetnes of D&G and a little bit citrus from Dior. Both of them really smelled good and I regret not buying D&G. I really wish I bought the D&G also. I don’t get why alot of people are hating the D&G.
D&G Sport and Dior Sport are both nice smelling.
My overall rating for Dior Sport is 7.5/10
My overall rating for D&G Sport is 7.5/10

I have both this one and the new reformulated sport. I wore both fragrances this entire summer and the only time I received compliments was with the original formulation. Enough said…

What’s clever about Dior and in particular The Homme line are the accords created by the mixture of notes to create a similar vibe and continuity throughout.
For example the original Dior Homme has a mustiness which comes from the floral notes constantly fighting (in a good way) with the warm ambery, leathery, earthy heart.
This one for me has the same thing but in a totally different citrus fragrance it’s the sharp lemon and grapefruit in the top which is spiced with ginger and for me creates the same effect.
Anyway…when it dries down this fragrance remains nice and fresh, as the ginger note (which I normally not overly keen on) mellows but is still present.
I can see why people think it’s over rated because there’s lots of fresh citrus scents out there but few have the pedigree of this one in my opinion.
It doesn’t compare to Homme or Intense for legendary status and I don’t know the cologne version well enough to compare with this other than it is a little softer.
The verdict is…Dior fragrances are really well conceived and you can expect quality from their flankers.

If you have a jar of ground ginger, just open it up and breathe deeply (assuming you are not allergic to it!). That is what this smells like, for hours, including the dry/dusty quality. You can catch hints of some of the other notes now and then, but that “real” ginger smell is really spiking out for me. If something changes during subsequent wearings, I’ll update this review.

i had high hopes for this but was very disappointed. like the review before, the ginger was too much for me. it is a quality product but not for me. my man bigsly came thru in a swap so hopefully he will find it more useful.

I love the Dior homme line. But I was not a fan of this one sadly. This does not smell like a sport fragrance. The ginger in this was just too much for me. Normally I relate ginger to Asian inspired foods, mainly when I eat sushi I always eat ginger along with it. And I could not get the fact that it reminds me of a sushi bar. As odd as that sounds. But just not a fan of it.

“Sport” is not an appropriate term for this fantastic scent as this is not the type of fragrance that one would wear to go to the gym. In fact, this is not a sport flanker of Dior Homme, which I adore, this stuff is a unique and amazing creation. This fragrance exudes class and casual elegance. I prefer the original DH Sport than the revamped 2012 formula since the new edition is much more citric and lemony than the original one. Perfect balance between citrus and aromatic notes makes this juice the jewel in the crown, moreover, sillage and longevi
