I was watching this one and had it in my queue for a long time on the subscription service that I had. I finally decided to let it come through and I received it yesterday. I will definitely be buying the full size bottle of this. It is all musk on me – and I love it. It reminds me of a time when I was younger and more carefree. It’s really not a fragrance but becomes a part of your skin. It’s hard to explain…but I love musk and this will quickly become my new signature scent. I wish I’d tried it a long time ago instead of some of the other scents I’d chose 🙂

Just wow. A blind buy that I’ve worn three days so far this week and I’m totally smitten. I wouldn’t have ordered this if I hadn’t heard it raved about in the Full Coverage podcast, as it’s likely becoming an “it girl” scent in the Los Angeles scene. Glossier is one of those companies who’ve managed to brand themselves as necessary to own, while maintaining indie cult status and minimalist use/packaging (their main fare is cosmetics).
If you are a fan of Lovely or any of the Narciso scents, you are bound to love You. LIkewise if you are a lover of iris or powdery notes. I happen to really, really love all three these days (although that wasn’t always the case). To me this scent really is all about skin. I’m still not sure of the sillage, but it definitely stays on me all day, though by the end it has become much more soft and slightly vanillic.
If you aren’t a musk lover, or just aren’t used to musk and iris mixed together (can come off as a bit sharp), you will probably recoil a bit at first. This is an edgy scent that, once it enters your olfactory repertoire and under the right conditions, you start to crave. At least, that’s the case with me.
I dunno, I could see me making this my signature. My head is spinning! Also, I have a spray, not the solid. First time orders on Glossier website get a 10% discount, BTW.

This fragrance is very subjective and relies a lot on the individual wearer. It also has nothing to do with it’s description. It’s not sparkling or creamy in the slightest. It’s supposed to be more of a smell than a true fragrance, and Glossier’s entire brand is about being unfussy and not too dramatic or complicated. Simplicity is their house specialty, and this fragrance matches their brand very well. That being said, I LOVE this stuff because I’m a sucker for all things musk. And, lucky me, my body chemistry goes absolutely crazy with the musky and animalic notes in this perfume. There’s no iris or anything else on me except the musk, the animalic notes, and the pink pepper, which I usually hate, but here it just makes the musk prickle at my nose a little bit. It’s big, warm, and fuzzy, like cuddling with a sleepy lion. The musk isn’t soft or soapy on me. It’s much more forward and aggressive. The sillage is always impressive, and the longevity is great too. The first time I wore this, I saw how it really sticks around- almost 12 hours. I stopped noticing it for that long after the first time I wore it, but I’ll catch whiffs of it that remind me it’s there. This fragrance on me is like a wild animal that’s being gentle right now but definitely is capable of being more aggressive if it wants to be. It’s dry and spicy and purring and so good. I thought this perfume would be gimmicky and unimpressive, but I fell in love with it when I finally tried it and now I can’t imagine not having it in my repertoire.
On my best friend, however, You is woodsy and sour and not at all musky. It really depends on your body chemistry. Get yourself a sample and see how you feel, because if this works on you, it’s a simple but wonderful thing.

I’ve already bought a backup bottle and I haven’t even dented my first one. The buttery Iris and musk are so compelling. I’m just on cloud nine with this one and have a substantial collection of perfumes that are more interesting, but this one generates compliments like none other. Needless to say I’m drenching myself in it for the foreseeable future.

It smells like soap, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I get a slightly marine, strongly synthetic and peppery start that sticks around for a good while and then just sweet, soapy musk at the base. I don’t get any iris at all, personally. It definitely suits Glossier’s ‘barely there’ aesthetic, it’s the smell of a squeaky clean shower and fresh towels that sticks around all day rather than a particularly striking or complex perfume.
For an unassuming scent it doesn’t totally blend into the background though – it’s actually got noticeable sillage, and I’ve gotten compliments on it (though they’re of the ‘you smell nice’ variety, not the ‘I *have* to know what you’re wearing’ ones). Not a remarkable fragrance at all but worth having around as something to make you feel ‘fresh’ – I find the persistence is particularly good for if you’re travelling.
I happen to hate the packaging – which is odd since Glossier seem to be so ‘on’ it with their branding/aesthetic, but I think it looks tacky and I think a 20ml atomiser that’d easily fit in your handbag and lower price point would fit the brand better… I guess it’s a good thing it has such staying power so you don’t actually need to top up if you spray it on in the morning. (I know they market the solid as the ‘on the go’ option but it’s got pretty awful reviews).

I agree with the reviewer below that this smells extremely similar to Nomenclature’s Ad_rett (or whatever nonsense way that company spells its fragrance names). Same aromachemical, I suppose? I’m not a chemist and I don’t play one on Fragrantica.
This is really hard to describe. It smells good and when I’m in the mood for it it’s always just right. It’s sort of fresh, sort of creamy, sort of dry. It’s sort of synthetic smelling but also mimics a naturally good body smell at the same time. There’s a fruitiness to it like fresh pear, but it is just a trace. It’s present at a very low volume all day though I find it tends to be stronger in cooler weather. If you like musky skin scents (and I tend to), this is definitely worth a try. I love the pink bottle with the thumbprint but sort of hate the red cap.

Has an 80’s vibe to it.fruity powdery floral. Pretty nice

This scent is absolute perfection to my nose. It’s sweet but not overwhelmingly so. It’s powdery like make up in the very best way. There is something to it that remind me of fresh clean freshly pressed clothes. So addictive! I love it so much. Definitely full bottle worthy.

This has something very reminiscent of one of the juicy couture scents on me.. I think it might be viva. But it also has a cozy smell. It’s a smell I’m not opposed to but its not what I want from a perfume. . That’s not to say I don’t like the smell it’s really nice… but it doesn’t make me feel how I like perfumes to make me feel. I like perfume to tell a decadent and opulent story and express my alter ego for the day, the version of my self is like to see/believe. To me the person who wears this is chic and modern and understated and real. They do not feel the need to wear strong perfume that’s too harsh too archaic. I instantly felt that this would be a lovely bed time perfume. Yes you heard me. This is the modern twenty-somethings answer to guerlains eau de lingerie?? I am not an understated chic type of young lady so I wouldn’t wear this as a day/going out scent but if I was feeling particularly fancy I would definitely make it an underwear perfume/spray for bedsheets as an alternative for those of us who are allergic to fabric softeners. In an ideal world I’d have a fragrance for every particular mood and occasion… in an ideal world.
In short, it’s light and skin like and understatedly sexy. It would be a nice office perfume since it’s not offensive. It could pass as just what you smell like after applying shampoo body cream freshly washed clothes etc, without making it seem like you ‘tried’ to douse yourself in scent. Maybe appropriate for serious jobs? Im rambling.
This might be polarising opinions but I think it definitely has a place in the market. Just maybe not on my shelf.

I agree with all the reviews of this. The positive reviews and the negative reviews are equally true. Glossier You is not a perfume as much as it is a smell. I get a smattering of notes suggested to me as I wear this: The musk, iris and powder listed above, but also hints of that pebble accord from CdG Odeur 53 or occasional wafts of the “solar accord” in Alien. A warm hazy skin musk but also a sterile minimalist laundry product. It’s definitely going to be a matter of skin chemistry and personal taste if you like this.
I became aware of this after smelling it on another guest while I was on vacation. Her style was something fierce, I can only describe it as “Wednesday Addams Goes to The Beach” and the scent of Glossier You suited this aesthetic perfectly. As soon as I got back from vacation, I put this one into my Scentbird queue.
I like it but if I had a bottle I would probably use this as a layering piece for other scents. On it’s own it’s really cozy and does travel a journey of several different types of musky notes.

In one scene of the “Harry Potter” series, the students are taught how to make love potion in their Potions class. Their professor explains to them that the potion will smell different to each person, and attracts them by smelling like something that they really love. That’s exactly how I would describe Glossier’s “You” eau de parfum, because it smells different on each person.
For example, my cousin would describe the perfume as smelling rosy. However, I get no rose and, to me, Glossier’s “You” smells like the shower after I’ve finished showering: the combination of heat, steam, and the clean scent of soap lingering in the air; not an actual bar of soap, but the air of soap. My husband, on the other hand, claims that he smells honey and jasmine. This is why it can be challenging for many people to describe how Glossier’s “You” smells, because it’s different to each person, and not everybody can pinpoint the specific perfume notes that they smell; all they know is that they enjoy it. Regardless of what each of us gets from the perfume, I can safely assume that each of us gets something different from it.
As far as longevity goes, I get all-day lasting power from Glossier’s “You.” While it doesn’t have a strong sillage, the perfume does have great lasting power.

Meh. I got free sample with my order and was very curious after reading about its ‘accentuate your own own scent/different on everyone’ marketing. Turns out it is a straight up powdery musk. It reminded me of something else that I couldn’t put my finger on but eventually realised…..City Wild Musk minus the projection, spillage and interesting bits. I don’t think it is worth the price to be honest.

I ordered a product from Glossier, which I also added a free sample of You, because it piqued my curiosity. I’m sniffing it from my wrist as I’m typing, and to me, it smells like rubbing alcohol, as if it was over-glorified and cloying, then it dries down to a soapy smell, similar to the off-brand soaps you’d see at your local dollar store… Yuck. Clearly too chemical for me.

It started with samples and turned into obsession. I purchased the solid and the eau de perfume. I brought it with me to Central America and it made for a perfect evening scent. It is not overwhelming, my boyfriend is VERY sensitive to scents and he never complains about this and trust me he is vocal when he does not like something.
There is something about the way it sits on my skin and works with my body chemistry that is better than any of my other perfumes (and I am a collector). I see negative reviews on here but it must just not work with their body chemistry, I recommend if you’re ordering something from Glossier to get the sample to try, or the solid as it is true to the scent and layers well with others (I like to layer the solid with Elizabeth and James Amethyst.

Glossier is accurate in their description of this fragrance. It is indeed ambiguous and hard to describe. For most perfumes, this implies complexity. But in this case, it instead has ubiquity.
“You” is offensively neutral. It smells like laundry detergent. It smells like candles. It smells like air freshener, soap, lotion, and any “fragrance” that is added to bath products.
Powder, musk, and iris all are equal players and do not add up to anything terribly unique. It is a nice scent though. Soft, clean, warm, cozy. I don’t get “sparkling”, but I do get an airy freshness that conveys positive notes. It reminds me of dust floating in a sunbeam.
On me, it is neutral and minimalist that just smells like skin. You, but better.
This fragrance would be an excellent addition to any collection, but mostly for its lack of statement. I am surprised Glossier didn’t also release the fragrance of their shower wash and lotion. It seems to be something a lot of fans are seeking.

As a self-proclaimed Glossier girl, I absolutely adore this fragrance. I have a pretty large fragrance collection, so I wasn’t sure this one would be terribly different from the scents I already had. I was wrong. “You” is so special. I’ve never smelled anything like it, yet it strangely reminds me of something from my past… still can’t figure out what. It’s warm with a gentle sweetness, a touch woodsy and slightly masculine, which I adore. It’s perfectly unisex. Emily Weiss (CEO of Glossier) was heavily inspired by the smell of skin/human pheromones, and personally, I think she got it totally right. It’s a beautiful and intimate scent. It suits almost any occasion. Men love this scent on me as well, which is a plus. I just finished up my first bottle and immediately ordered another. This one has made itself a permanent fixture in my fragrance collection.

love this. it smells like warm skin in the summer, not sweaty but not necessarily clean, and the vague scent of a men’s fragrance (curve for men) that has mostly faded after a day of wear. there is that zingy, somewhat crisp smell of warm skin after being outside in the sun. my ex bf used to smell like that when he’d walk in the door after riding his bike. kind of a tangy, zingy smell. for me, this is glossier “you”.
3 sprays and i stop noticing the perfume quickly however people around me DEFINITELY smell it. i got compliments and questions the first wear even though i thought i could no longer smell it. it doesnt project far but someone standing next to me in line smelled it and liked it enough to ask me what it was. doesnt last long, maybe 3-4 hours max.

Got it a few days ago, and I love it!! But in a really weird way….
It smells of old stale books in a library or book store. So hard to describe that smell of old paper, old binding, and stale air. It sounds like a diss, but for me its a pleasant reminder of days past, when people actually read books.
I have a cute pair of matte round eyeglasses that when I wear them I look like an adorable learn-ed scholar. I will wear this perfume with those glasses. It will complete the ensemble.

This fragrance is just okay. It’s really nothing special or innovative. Just a very simple, straight-forward powdery musk. I think it fits in with Glossier’s aesthetic but it’s not as interesting as it could have been. You could get the same effect from a ton of other fragrances, like Jovan White Musk which costs a literal fraction of the price.
What you’re really buying into here is the glossier lifestyle and packaging.
It’s an easy pass for me.

This fragrance is slightly more interesting than laundry detergent, but only slightly. I would have loved a perfume that went along with the Glossier Body Hero products, which have a lovely herbal, orange blossom scent.

Wow, the first spritz is a chemical olfactory assault. Febreze, caustic bathroom cleaner, and something medicinal and hospitalish. Hint of latex and band-aid. But that goes away pretty quickly. I don’t get warm and creamy out of this. I get Cartier’s Baiser Vole (a whole plant lily bomb,) mixed with something sharp and animalistic. It’s like Baiser Vole’s androgynous twin. Does this sound like a bad review? It’s not. It’s really interesting and totally wearable. It took a few minutes, but I get it. It’s subtle and different and modern bohemian. This perfume isn’t going to announce itself 30 seconds before you enter the room nor is it going to scream, “ASK ME ABOUT MY PERFUME.” Thumbs up on this one.

You may be fleeting but after a week of working through my testers every day, it is beginning to build up on my sleeves etc and it’s beginning to leave its mark. It’s gorgeous.
It reminds me of a Dunhill aftershave that a friend of mine wore in the 80s!

When I first got this fragrance just after it came out, I had not really smelled many other fragrances. I had never been a “perfume person,” but I wanted to be. I didn’t want to review this until I had acquired a few other fragrances and sampled a bunch more. I’m still very new to fragrances (obviously, this hasn’t been out that long,) but I feel more capable of reviewing now.
Yes, this is a relatively linear fragrance. People who are saying that it isn’t complex or that it’s “basic” are, in fact, correct. And that is exactly what it claims to be. This isn’t a “perfume is art” fragrance. This is an “I want to smell good but also simple and fresh” fragrance.
It isn’t a common smell, but it is a simple one. On me, it is exactly three things; pink pepper, iris, and musk. In that order. Thankfully, I do not get powder, because I hate powder. I’m not sure why pink pepper isn’t listed on here as a note. It is one, and I think it makes this scent. On me, it is arguably the strongest note, and I think it staves off the “old lady” issue some people have. The iris is extremely linear and the musk does come through more over time while the pepper tones down, but overall this scent stays quite a bit the same over time.
Projection & sillage are nil, as advertised. The longevity is pretty pathetic, but I tend to spray some on my scarf or hair to continue getting whiffs later in the day. Overall, I’m very happy with it and I use it for work or chill days. Also makes a fantastic layering scent.

I was curious about this because of the Frank Voelkl factor. Call me a basic millennial, but I was curious what he could come up with for a $60 price point, as opposed to a Le Labo scent.
“You” starts off as a sweet floral. On initial spray I got a sense of Chloe EDP, but that quickly went away. The floral gives way to a milky sweet musk. It reminds me of these Japanese hard candies that my mom used to buy, which were “fruit flower milk” flavor.
On me, it stays for about 4-5 hours with small sillage, then fades away. It doesn’t smell amazing, but I also don’t think it merits the horrible reviews on here, either. I would say “You” is a pretty decent fragrance for every day.
The bottle is kind of unattractive and cheap, but so is all of Glossier’s other packaging.
Overall, will probably use this in casual Friday’s or running errands on the weekend, when I want something, but don’t need an official fragrance.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

To be fair, I have only tried this with small sample sprays and from experience I know that a larger spray does affect sillage and longevity.
However, I really like this scent and not quite sure why it has received such negative reviews.
I am really choosy with my perfumes and am wedded to vintage Chanel no.s 5 and 19 in particular, but what I love about Glossier You is that unlike my favourites, it is a very simple scent and intentionally so. That’s the whole point.
Slightly androgynous and really easy to wear.

A warm musk that is exactly as described: what your partners neck smells like after a day of wearing cologne. Its so boring and underwhelming, but could have been interesting if they hadn’t made it so “warm”. As I keep smelling it on my arm I keep getting images of middle aged women. That note is so aging. If I smelled this on someone I would not think they were wearing perfume, but just had a rather unpleasant body lotion on or used a strange detergent. The people that do like this are people that don’t know perfume. The people that don’t like this know that this is every single female designer floral after 6 hours. Even at $60 this is overpriced. The more I think about it, this is EXACTLY what I expect from glossier. A concept and aesthetic driven product that thinks its being innovative and new but is embarrassingly self-unaware and boring, all with a dash of ironic/nostalgic branding. Bye!

  30. :

    4 out of 5

I am shocked by the number of underwhelmed reviews for this. I absolutely love this fragrance, so much so that I ended up buying two back up bottles during their holiday sale. On my skin, You is powdery Iris meets soft floral musk. The sillage is not extreme but the longevity is anywhere between 5 to 8 hours on my skin. This is the scent that I reach for when I want to smell clean and fresh and safe. It has also become a favorite layering fragrance as well!
I like the idea of a fragrance that smells different on everyone since ‘you’ are one of the notes, and I guess this is one that either works for you or it doesn’t, but I would be remiss if I didn’t add my two cents to the conversation and share that for me – this is pure comfort.

This isn’t really a review. I just want to thank the majority of previous posters for the warning about this “scent”. I was going to purchase but after hearing that it smelled like Febreeze for humans, as well as smelling more like chemicals than fragrance, I noped away from this product as fast as I could. Plus the price of $75 CAD, not including shipping/handling is off-putting. It’s funny, but in the last ten years or so, I’ve found most new releases smelling more like a chemical lab creation than flowers, woods, herbs, food etc., than like the scent they’re purported to be.
Personally, I’m looking forward to spending my hard earned money on 3.50 (UK) per 1.2 ml Floris samples and 22 Euros Houbigant’s Originals Seven Samples vials (2ml each). I will gladly review these fragrances once I have a chance to try them.

Smells a lot like it belongs in the Omnia line; and also a ton like Lanvin’s Eclat d’Arpege with the addition of a strong beeswax note. That’s it. Not very exciting (in fact, less exciting than either of those just mebtioned). Sweet, light, floral musk with beeswax.

When i first got the perfume sample it was really fresh and clean with musk. I felt like i needed this in my perfume collection! But when it arrived i instantly regretted it. This perfume is alot darker and peppery than the sample. When i spray this on me i instantly want to wash it off. I smell alot of musk and pepper with fresh laundry that’s it. I wouldn’t even consider this a perfume. And i would say it’s too overpriced. Save your money!

Eeeeehhhhhh….This is an odd one. As a fan of Glossier’s branding (and a few of their products), I was hoping to like this one more than I do. It sticks out like a sore thumb in my fragrance wardrobe. Every time I smell my perfumes, I get to this one and think, “Huh.”
In the beginning, there is a hint of pepper, and a bit of Iris along with A LOT of alcohol. Once that is gone, there is a very light musk that sticks around for a few hours and that, my friends, is that. It reminds me a wee bit of Le Labo’s Ambrette 9; another perfume of which I am not particularly fond.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

I just received my bottle and I decided to give it some time before reviewing it…as it is not easy to describe…not crazy about the top notes, clearly a bit chemical to me, like it doesn’t smell bad, but it doesn’t smell real good..in truth, it doesn’t smell like a perfume at all.
Then I get that clean dry ambrette/ambrox vibe, as it softens, it is also more musky, kind of dry ozonic..it disappears really fast, and leaves me feeling like, what the heck is You supposed to be!? I find it gimmicky, the bottle gimmicky, like a nail polish remover bottle..
Clean scents don’t do much for me, so clean minimalistic weird scents even less
Is it unisex !? the vibe I get is more feminine than not..maybe some guys like those soft dryer sheet scents with a hint of musk.
In the end , if you don’t like to wear perfumes but you want to smell like something, You might be that something, like a dryer sheet that almost lost its smell..diluted..but nothing bad…
As for me, it isn’t my idea of what I want to smell like..I got it with a 20% discount, good thing. I find Omnia Crystalline a lot stronger and more defined too..
I don’t see the point of those barely there scents..if I want something light, I can find fresher lighter scents..light doesn’t mean it evaporates to nothingness in 15 mn..
Somebody mentioned human fabreeze, in truth, it could be something like that!
Not impressed with that one .to me the art of perfumerie isn’t reflected in You.

I bought my bottle based on a sample I was given – the sample was subtle but amazing, my shirt smelled like the perfume days later and I couldn’t get enough. Sadly, when the full-size arrived, it smelled nothing like the sample vial. Honestly it smells mostly like alcohol, and then on the dry down I can only explain it as rubber/tire scented? My sample bottle had just a touch left so I compared the two, and they aren’t even in the same family… even the weird rubber scent of the dry down on the full size doesn’t like more than an hour, where as the sample vial sent is an all day slow burner. Not sure if there is quality control or if they’ve done a formula change, but I’ve sadly returned my purchase.

To me, this smells like Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste. It is a lovely perfume but nothing special.
I love the Glossier brand in general but am underwhelmed by Glossier You. Doesn’t live up to the hype. So disappointing…

I’m not a fan of these barely there perfumes that still have a high price. It’s not the most expensive, but $60 is a lot for something so simple. I guess people who don’t like complex scents would like it, or if you are a fan of Glossier. I like their message when it comes to skin care and makeup, but this isn’t original.

A modern floral that smells clean, cool and metallic. There is a note that smells a little peppery, citrusy (sour?). The combination of musk and sourness makes it smell very natural almost like sweat (in a good way). I think it goes pretty well with Glossier’s concept, no makeup makeup = no perfume perfume. It’s not a scent if you want to smell ‘significant’, but it’s more of a if you need a ‘something there’ or ‘barely there’ scent.

This stuff is really great. Two people at work told me that I smelled really good the first day I wore You, and let me tell you that I almost never get any compliments on the perfumes I wear!
Warm, clean, airy, seductive and casual at the same time, it is a skin scent that just envelops you in a fuzzy blanket of amazing feelings. I can’t imagine anyone really hating this. Incredibly unisex too!

Question to fellow posters. Does this really smell as unisex I’m being told? I’ve heard from a few NYC friends that have worn it, ( one purchased it, & it’s a mix of male, & female friends ) that this is very unisex, & like a slightly more complex fresh laundry scent than the ones by CLEAN. I am a fan of some laundry type fragrances, but that’s a very limited “ some “.

I am pretty upset about this one. I love glossier and the description of the fragrance is exactly what I am hunting for. If you smell the fragrance the instant you put it on you can smell the iris and musk. Within about a minute all I can smell is a generic “fruity floral.” It does stick around for a long time. I am wearing it right now and it’s been out about 8 hours. It smells like the initial fruity floral but more mellow. The way it has mixed with my skin I imagine it would be very pleasant to others.
I absolutely do not smell the musk, powder, or creaminess everyone is talking about.

I can see how someone who doesn’t usually wear perfume would enjoy this, and I can also see how someone who likes that clean-laundry-musk drydown would be into it. It’s a very simple fragrance with minimal top notes (iris and pink pepper) and a heavy dose of base notes (ambrette and ambrox). Because of the ambrox I’m of course reminded of JHAG Not a Perfume although that is obviously super linear/one note. Glossier You has a journey, it’s just a short one and it’s not complex. It is cozy and it’s definitely grown on me (I’d wear it more than I initially thought I would) but it’s also not reinventing the wheel. YMMV.

This smells like L’Eau d’Issey and bleach. You should not wear it.
