The first burst of this perfume oil is extremely powdery. To describe it, I would say if slaked lime had a smell, it would be this. Which is not at all a good thing. Once it settles down on your skin, it does become a little bearable (smelling like a talcum powder). Lasting power on my skin is around 4 hours. The sillage isn’t too strong and will be only be noticeable by someone you get intimate with.

    Very sensual and soft

A horrid and vile conconction of harsh chemicals, with reminescences of farm and melted plastic. Its huge success is something far beyond of my understanding.

I remain baffled as to how this beautiful scent had escaped my olfactory radar for all these years. Soft and sensuous yet striking in character, this perfume will surround you in a calming cloud of addictive fragrance. I pick up on a strong note of iris, as sophisticated as in Chanel No 19 Poudrée, yet warmed and softened by a cottony musk that embraces the wearer, omitting an air of casual elegance; a touch of boho chic. I tested this one morning while shopping in Oxford with my husband: the EDP scent lasted all day (outliving various other more expensive scents I tested). At the end of the day my husband bought it for my birthday next month – I just can’t wait to wear it!! 🙂

Its strange, for something that has so many notes listed…well it smells like white musk to me! I noticed when I was about 19 I borrowed a musk perfume from a berthing mate in the Navy when I ran out of body spray and I was like catnip to a cat all night with every Gentleman I met. Men love the smell of white musk! I don’t mind it, but its not necessarily something I always want to reach for. My bottle is pretty old, from the early 2000’s. Still smells the same. I think this version is better than any drugstore white musk, but any will do if you want to attract the gents and but smell mild and inoffensive to the ladies.

not hard to like this, clean, simple, fresh, powdery musk, years after years and never get bored of it.
Bought 2 bottles of 100ml on last christmas sale, too good to miss LOL

I have been wearing this perfume since 1991! Its simple and clean, musky and warm but can be worn anytime of the year. I always get compliments when I wear this and have since I was a teen. I guess on my skin it wears well (musk and vanilla ) which is why other than Light Blue, its the only perfume I keep buying after I empty a bottle. I wear the oil and perfume for cold winter months and switch to the toilette and body spray in warmer months. Ive used a tiny bit of the oil as a base for other amber / sandlewood type scents and it makes perfumes like JHG Not a Perfume and Pinrose Pillow Talk Poet extra special and long wearing.

I’m in the north-east of England for a week, and the local BS store offers a great discount on perfume oils. I always thought that The Body Shop White Musk didn’t gel with my skin, at least in the EDT version, because I found it very alcoholic and gag-inducing. But as soon as I tried the perfume oil version, I bought it on the spot. This oil version skips that sharp ethanol that was giving me headache in the EDT version and goes straight to the actual scent, which is very beautiful, powdery and sensual. In comparison to White Musk by Tesori d’Oriente, this one is subtler, cleaner and less sweet. I like them both and will be wearing them a lot this spring.

Very inoffensive powdery musk scent, perfect for a subtle day when you’re in a nothing-special mood. I can imagine this being a good first fragrance for a young adolescent discovering fragrances. I know it is one of my very firsts.
I used to love this very much, but now I’ve grown a little tired of the singularity of this. Not to mention, it doesn’t last at all. You constantly re-spray. However, it is brilliant for layering! I love to wear this beneath other perfumes. Overall, inoffensive clean musk that’s perfect for when you want something but nothing dramatic and loud… like a chore day perfume.

I’ve had a 30ml purple bottle of this perfume oil since 2013. I really loved it back then. Now at this point in time, it’s just a like for me. I like the musk, but it smells too clean for my taste. There’s a note in it that sticks out that I don’t like. It sure lasts a long time on your skin though, and it’s a great bargain.

Utter horror on me. Need to scrub like crazy every time I try it. I have sort of forgotten a couple of times and given it second chances because it can smell very divine on other people. Sadly the warmness is nowhere to be found on me, only a screeching unpleasant sourness. Soap and water will not remove it, need to use makeup remover meant for waterproof makeup, still the smell will linger, but finally a tiny fraction of that warmness will show itself together with the horrible sour smell. But the pain to get there is certainly not wort it in any way.

I want to say “run screaming” but that’s not much of a review. I love musk as a basenote. I need a musk oil to layer under my fragrances just to add a dimension to them and make them last. Sadly, the floral part of the musk jumped out like a jack-in-the box and was “Ta-da!” all over. I am not sure what that scent would be. In reading the above, it could be ylang-ylang, which I don’t really 100% recall what that smells like–or the galbanum, but I think I have had that in other fragrances that I like! (To date, I have a few galbanum frags but NO ylang-ylang).
Also I recall a sad memory with White Musk. A good friend of mine from childhood lived with her parents, but her dad was a truckdriver. My friends mom was a neat freak and a smoker. Her entire house smelled like cleaner and Glade spray over a layer of smoke. I thought their home was a little weirded, but one day the dad came back and was verbally abusive, all over this sad scent trying to make everything seem all right. It was 1984, a big year for musks, so I need to step back and look for a less floral musk and keep to the basis.

LOVE the scent a lot. is a shame is a body shop brand. But I brought so their EDP, ED T, body scrub .. the whole collection. I think I bought at least 5-6 bottles each ECP, ECT, mist. oil … The perfume oil lasts very long… is not woody musky like their rose musk…. is soft, powdery, like you are in a white garden party with pearls…. I still in love with this scent over 7 years !!!! a Scent that I don’t get board with.

I guess it smells familiar to almost anyone. I love to spray after showering and before an evening at home. Clean smelling, very comforting. Very hard to really dislike.

This scent makes me nostalgic. Precious memories flashes back to me whenever I smell this. I always go for the set made up with EDT, mist, shower gel and lotion during my late teen age up to early 20’s. Its far from smelling like an “old lady”. Musk is soft with just the right amount of freshness. It is very sensual. I love all of it.

  19. :

Ahh White Musk, an old favorite of mine from high school 🙂 this is a warm and fuzzy fragrance that makes me feel warm and fuzzy…this is my ultimate nostalgia scent that is still just as wearable now at 31 as it was when I was 16. I don’t really get any particular notes out of this one besides musk and a soapy floral background to it but it’s still somehow so unique, distinctive, and beautiful.
A lot of reviewers complain about longevity, but the EDP spray lasts me all day and into the next morning. Even after a shower I can still smell it. My skin gobbles most perfumes right up but I’ve noticed anything with musk lasts for a long time on me. So I would say if you find that musks play well with your chemistry, give this one a try.

I used to have the EDT version from years ago and had to throw it out recently since it had gone bad. Found myself in the body shop tonight after work and immediately thought of my old go to. Tested the perfume oil for a change and it had a gorgeous smokey vetiver opening that I don’t remember the old EDT having and of course I bought it! After the opening it is only a so-so soapy (musky?) floral but I figure I’ll keep it around and layer it if only for that pretty opening scent. Nice sillage for the price as well. Not bad overall. The rest of the body shop scents are as uninteresting to me now as they were when I first purchased white musk so I guess this is their best one.

So, my summer affair with coconut faded out, and the next scent category I have jumped on is musk.
The Body Shop’s White Musk came to mind. I got the perfume oil and I really like it, although it is strong upon application.
I do not smell anything other than white musk, which is actually a relief, otherwise it may not be so versatile. And versatile, it is!
You can layer it under spray perfumes that contain a musk note — and you’ll create an amped-up, muskier fragrance. I just started experimenting in this way.
    You can mix with lotion.
    You can wear alone.
You can make a body spray (like a previous reviewer mentioned).
Unfortunately, the scent fades much faster than I expected. It’s nowhere near as strong or long-lasting as, say, Al-Rehab oils. But it’s nice while it lasts. I’m sure that back in the day, when people reported that the quality was better, it lasted longer.

I’m going to have to stop by The Body Shop and see what they did to this. There was a point in time in the 90s when I put my other, heavier perfumes away, and just used some Body Shop scents (this, dewberry), or Bath & Body Works lotions (vanilla bean, white gardenia). I remember smelling this one on a trip to England in 1990, and was happy when a Body Shop opened near me in the States in the early 90s, and I shopped there and wore this mainly between the years of 1996-98. This musk was a lot different than the 70s and 80s type musks that I was used to (though I still like those). This one is more of a clean, soapy, hint of floral type of a scent. It reminds me of being young and single, on my own for the first time, working and then getting videos from Hollywood video to watch with friends afterwards. Happy, carefree times in the 90s.

I had it back in high school around 2008. I remembered it smells fresh, clean and powdery. Yesterday i tried this perfume again in bodyshop outlet near me and i’m confuse, this smells nothing alike with the one i had. I feel like the iris is too strong in this one and gave me headache right away. Not that i don’t like iris powdery vibe, but it’s too powdery even my hubby think it smells like typical 90’s perfumed body powder.

Damn beautiful scent. Surprisingly safe. Jasmine pushes through and if there was even a tiny bit more it would be too much for me, I think.
I’ve also tried the oil version but apparently am doing something wrong since it fades out and disappears from my skin in one hour.
Go on and try it on your skin to see if it’s for you! 🙂 I think it’s also a good bottle for a gift.

Very interesting, sexy floral & musky scent, cold but passionate. For the relatively low price, it’s very sophisticated. Iris, oak moss and vetiver are surely there and it’s a lovely mix. I truly like it, but it is just a bit too teasing for me.

  28. :

It is a familiar, sweet, girly, powdery scent. The top notes are too strong but the middle notes are lovely.

Back in the day when I used to wear one perfume at a time, everyday for years on end, I went looking for something inexpensive to give me a periodic break from said perfume (Chanel 19 at the time), and I found White Musk. It was a perfect palate cleanser to No. 19 – soft, cool, cloud-like, and very unisex. I always remember, shortly after purchasing it, a man and his young adult son stopped me on the street to ask me what fragrance I was wearing. I knew I had found a good one. There’s a reason White Musk is still going strong, while so many Body Shop fragrances have come and gone.

    Review for the Perfume Oil
It’s a clean, flowery musk. It lasts very long, and on me it stays close to the skin, it never gets overpowering: it’s a skin scent, quite sexy in my opinion, but innocent and clean at the same time, if that makes sense. It can be worn in the summer too, because it’s not heavy at all. It reminds me of kittens, in a a good way, it’s so fluffy and velvety.
At the beginning it smells very flowery, especially with jasmine and rose. The it gets rounder, creamier and muskier. Finally, in the drydown I also smell some amber, peach and maybe basil. It’s really lovely and wearable, even in the summer.

My all time favourite. Buy the oil…mix it into aqueous creme for a body moisturizer…mix a few more drops into some alcohol then water for a body mist…onto some wooden skewers and into a pretty vase for an air freshener…Its so versatile and such good value. I have worn this since a was 15….a very long long time. Its beautiful and a great everyday perfume.

The oil really blooms beautifully in the warm weather or over a warm body 🙂
I bought the oil in a very very warm summer day last year and forgot about it till winter. Winter came and I tried it and was disappointed. Nice but boring clean-ish musk, I guess. Then summer came and I fell in love again.
In the heat, this is musky but not airy, floral but somewhat dark and bitter, almost woody but not quite. It’s not a white floral at all. It’s sexy but not in-your-face, warm, different from all other musky florals I currently own and very human. In the heat, I can smell many more notes and nuances that I cannot smell in cool weather and it becomes a very comforting and uplifting fragrance. Linear but rich and well-composed.
Makes me feel more me, more “in my body”, warmer in a good way.
I am really enjoying it it in the summer.
Long lasting (12h or more), moderate projection (a bit more than arm’s length).

The EdT, from what I had tested at the store, was much more boring than the oil.

You know I’m very, very late to the party. Back in the 90s, this perfume was an essential to the ‘Snobby posh girls’ gangs from my Junior High school. I loathe them back then..and so does this perfume. I was more of the ‘Cool Artsy Tomboys’ gang and we wore CK one/Versace’s red jeans. Feminine & delicate perfumes were not our image. I went to the Junior high school reunion last week, and laughing about our stupidity back then. And White Musk was one of the center story. I can’t believe that I used to loathe this perfume because of these arrogant posh girls..Hahaha. They’re all much nicer now & looking haggard due to marriage & babies..LOL. So now that we’re all mature, I can truly appreciate the classic & timeless quality of White Musk. It’s powdery, comforting & stays close to the skin, and I bought 1 full bottle complete with the lotion & shower gel just for the sake of nostalgia.

  35. :

I am reviewing the oil. As many have pointed out, this is a major flashback to the 90s for me. I buy one every decade or so, it is a type of scent that is so “dear” to me. It is a very warm, smokey musk with a hint of bitterness. Btw I don’t remember this bitterness when I used it in the 90s. Reformulated maybe? This perfume will not turn heads or draw attention. It is a safe, clean, girl next door type of scent….A cup of coffee while reading a book at a cozy coffee shop on a cold winter morning….A stroll through a park, smelling the fresh cool air while stepping on fallen leaves…..Watching your favorite TV show at home on your sofa, covered with a warm fleece blanket….Yes, for me this is more of a cold weather scent. But it also has that “clean” feeling about it, so I sometimes use it when I work out at the gym. This scent will not impress anyone, it is a very personal “just for me” type of scent.

I too wore this in the 80’s and 90’s as an homage to my youth. I am back to it after more than 20 years away from it and while it is still a beautiful comfort scent, it’s not quite as I remember…at least not at first. This is one that it doesn’t hurt to invest in multiple forms of. I bought the oil but will likely pick up a small EDT too as it has a bit brighter feel to it.
The oil begins a bit more men’s shave cream-y than it used to. I almost didn’t recognize the scent until it settled in. After about 45 minutes the original white musk scent revealed itself and as per it’s predecessor- it just doesn’t quit. It stays comfortably close yet noticeable for many hours. It is pretty linear which doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I bought it because it is what it is. There is a clean-ness about it, a coziness. not sterile though. Perfect as it’s own fragrance or in combination with other fragrances to add dimension. I’m glad to have rediscovered it.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

As soon as I received my new bottle of TBS White Musk oil in the mail and opened it I went “Ahhhhhhhh…..”
Like many others, this fragrance took me back in time, but not to the ’80s, but to the ’90s, when I was about 18 and the world (and myself) seemed much more innocent.
It took me back to a time when here in America –
    The Clinton’s were in office
    Kurt Cobain was still alive
    MTV still played music
People still talked on the phone to each other
You could wear flannels with every outfit
Dark red matte lipstick was cool
The X-Files and Twin Peaks were my favorite shows
I had all kinds of friends of all different ethnicities/religions and nobody cared and the world wasn’t as crazy as it is now…
And I felt like I had the whole world ahead of me…
Sure, this oil has changed like everything else in the world, but it is a perennial classic for a reason – no matter what era you are from, this scent is just so clean, velvety (like the advertisement says), and comforting. This is one I will always love because of its lovely scent and the way it can take me back to such an important time in my life.

A bit of “heaviness” that is common for 1980s perfumes can be spotted here, too. Together with the flowery notes this makes an unusual composition, at least with respect to contemporary standards. Frankly, I don’t think it works well.

  42. :

My go-to casual scent because it’s so simple.
Also my go-to layering perfume. This veil of airy and dry musk softens my sharp woody perfumes, and tames my juicy perfumes. They all smell great on their own but White Musk gives it a fluffy fresh boost.
I call this my petticoat perfume.
    Syncs well with citruses too.
It’s versatile. I use it all year round, by itself or layered.
For the price, it does a lot of work.

  43. :

    4 out of 5

Smells like detergent to me, in a good way. Clean laundry. I like the scent enough to buy it and I’m pumped already to play with possible layerings. Something vaguely floral and huge doses of extra-clean musk. What impresses me more is the longevity, it lasts more than 6 hours on my skin, which is a fair time for an EDP. The sillage is not the best after three hours, but I’m okay with that. Linear. Some might find it boring.

  44. :

Unfortunately, there is something about this classic staple that just doesn’t work for me. There is some note that I can’t identify that makes me feel sick to my stomach. I really have given it a good go, trying white musk in different temperatures and at different times of the month. If I have to work this hard at making it work, it’s probably best if we just break up. I really wanted to identify the note that was bothersome but was unable. Fortunately, the white musk by Jovan works for me. I passed this on to a girlfriend who was happy to have it. You can’t win them all.

My husband loves it, always compliments me when Im wearing it!

Nothing is more memory awakeing than fragrances, scents and smells. There are two perfumes there are the strongest pre-teen-teen nostalgia for me and one is Cool Water by Davidoff and the other is this one. Tbh I don’t really like it that much but the memories are washing over me in a very pleasant way so I recently bought me a bottle just because I’m a very nostalgic person and this year I’m turning thirty so I’m veeeery melancholic and nostalgic this year. For me this scent is so much youth and adolescence so when I wear it it’s like I’m time traveling 🙂

I’ll never tire of this soft, pretty fragrance. It’s been a constant in my fragrance collection for over 20 years. Powdery, romantic, and pure. Perfect with jeans and a t-shirt or a flowy dress. It’s really just lovely.

To me this will always be about pearls. Princess Diana, oversized Laura Ashley dresses and white tights worn with flat shoes. Although it screams 80s I think it has managed to transcend its time and place and remains a really lovely, light, almost virginal musk.
With so many musks now smelling like a week old laundry hamper this baby stands out for all the right reasons.

An amazing simple, clean, fresh soapy/musky scent. It smells something between an expensive soap and laundry detergent. I see many notes but I smell mostly musk. Good for all year round, all occassions and seasons. Pure classic. Perfect if you don’t know what perfume to wear, for gym, for work, whatever! It’s also perfect as base for layering with other perfumes. Inoffensive, clean, fresh, simple and even unisex! Because sometimes you just want to smell simple and clean 🙂

Don’t know where the long list of notes come from.
It’s just about Musk+Lily+ perhaps a tiny bit of Iris.
A pleasant musky smell but nothing special about it.
Do I buy it? I suppose not.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the white musk body butter, and creamed myself up after a shower. That whole day was amazing, I was back in mid 90s in preschool, I mean dang this fragrance has so many GOOD memories combined to it, Im just lost in words.
Everything about it is poetic, I dont know wth it is….
the body butter last for a long time on my skin, and Im getting the EDT next time around. I will never never ever get tired of this one…
The sales girls at the body shop, talked about this being popular among elder ladies, and I laughed reminded these girls are generation gourmand, they will never experience the amazing memories attached to white musk….
so I told them hey girls, this was the scent of teenagers for my generation ( im 34)…. and they gasped…hahahaha 🙂 so funny
anyway Im truly high on good feeling when it comes to white musk, if I could marry it I would….

This is Amsterdam to me. Used to wear this while I lived there. Id also recommend the body lotion. During my last visit I bought a big bottle and I use that rarely just to trigger memories. What a lovely scent!

I received White Musk as a gift from my little brother when I was a teenager in the 90s. I loved the smell of it and have returned to it after a 20-year hiatus. I like to wear it in cold weather because it smells so warm and cozy. It is such a harmonious blend that I can’t pick out the individual notes. Like any great fragrance, it is more than the sum of its parts.

This was first made in 1981 but to me, this is 90’s simplicity in fragrance at its finest and that’s when it became popular for The Body Shop here in The USA. I’ve long had a real interest in scents that capture the cultural mood of a decade because I feel it communicates something about who we are and where we were in the grand dance of society through time.
If The Body Shop’s “White Musk” is a scent beacon of an era, this captures a specific transition in the mid 90’s towards a hopeful, new Millennium. Simple yet distinctive, something in it hints at the benzoin cleaners of 80’s elementary schools, with a deep, soft velvety earthiness reminding us of the grunge influence on culture: Young and fresh but tempered by a poetic seriousness.
“White Musk” smells like fresh water in a stone pool, like a shady, damp corner in a Sunny garden. It almost has a mildew moistness to it but the rose keeps it clean and crystalline, so this is no stagnant water.
That hint of crystal freshness brings us into the brighter side of the 90’s, the skating on skateboards and roller blades in the sun kind of muskiness. It’s such an uncomplicated blend, that it’s almost like the fragrance version of the “Bohemian Typewriter” font used everywhere in 90’s graphic design: Simple, a little rough around the edges but right to the point.
It can be considered youthful in that it’s clean and unfussy but there is still enough depth in “White Musk” to satisfy pensive types with more life experience. I love how it expands out into fresh, moon blossom puffs in night air. Great fair or evening out scent for laid back nights.

This is a really amazing return on investment. You get strong sillage and long lasting. It’s not overly sweet, but it reminds me of crushed flowers at night after they’ve been condensed during a really hot day in summer. Basically, if you grew up in the midwest where it’s insanely hot and humid in summer, that sweet evening smell with a little bit of power. That sounds old, but it’s not an older smell. More like a softer rounder smell, there are no sharp notes.

Of all the three musks, excluding the flankers, I loved the first sniff of this one but the base notes smelled like an old man for me. 🙁 Too bad, I really liked the top notes.

An awesome scent. I tested this thinking of a powder explosion when it’s actually quite sweet.
Lasts beyond a shower, too! Lovely for year round, every day wear.

The popularity of musk-centric fragrances is not something I grew up with. I grew up in a time dominated by fresh aqua for the guys and fruity florals for the girls. Yet, something about musks make me feel very comforted and nostalgic.
I have been exploring different musk fragrances, which fortunately happen to be quite cheap. After sampling it, I bought 2 of the 30 ml, 1 fl oz EDP White Musk from The Body Shop for only $14. The fragrance is quite simple: clean, slightly soapy musk dominates with hints of herbal and floral notes. For me I notice the vetiver, oakmoss, lily, ylang-ylang, basil and patchouli most. I also tried the men’s version and I wasn’t pleased. It smelled too sweet and spicy with the musk taking a back seat.
To my delight this reminds me soo much of those various Egyptian Musk oils, most of which I have recently had to accept have been ruined by reformulation and dilution. It also reminds me of a much smoother, better-rounded, less retro version of Jovan Musk for Men. This is labeled as a women’s fragrance, but it totally feels unisex. The only thing I would change about this is the silage and longevity. Even thethe EDP concentration is pretty short-lived. Overall, The Body Shop White Musk is a really cozy, clean musk at a great price and should certainly be in your wardrobe if you like musks.

At first, White Musk by The Body Shop seems like a simple fragrance. It smells clean, soapy. But as the day goes by, it deepens, and it almost get a dirty quality. I find this perfume to be both classy and extremely sensual. I just love to wrap myself in the comfort and elegance of this scent !

i bought myself a little edt bottle and i enjoy it a lot. last year i dismissed it and bought myself a masculine version of white musk, because female version seemed too sweet and too laundry-like to me at that time. now i am able really to enjoy it. i live in a cold climate most of the year, and when it comes summer and gets a bit warmer here, i can not wear most of my scents but want something that is simple and easy to wear. so many musks smell too soapy and laundry-like and cold and impersonal to me, it really is hard to find a musk that i enjoy. this one was a succesful buy, i really enjoy it. it is soft and easy to wear, and simple. it is warm. i get some floral notes as well but not as a separate notes but as a well mixed blend and i enjoy it. the longevity is not so good, but for that price i don’t mind to re-apply. it smells a bit different on me, depending probably on body temperature and such, sometimes i get a smoky note in the opening, but it dissapears after a while leaving soft pleasant warm skin smell. enjoying it a lot. reminds a bit Skin from Clean, but more powdery and much warmer.

I once took this to be a bit of an old lady fragrance.. But now I am older and wiser at thirty and can appreciate it for what it does.
WM is the perfect balance of understated and sensual, alluring and clean. I find many fragrances fall into one of the other but this does both with great ease.
It is a warm, cheerful, reviving smell. It is coming into winter where I am and something in it works to add to the cosy, fresh feeling of a cold night. This conveys something I like. Quiet confidence and a happy air.

Okay this is a review for the new bottle (20 ml instead of the 30 ml) I used to like white musk very much. But this new bottle is different, it doesn’t have that clean wash smell any more, but now it smells to musky in a bad way, to old granny musk. To bad, I ask the salesman at the store if the formula is change, he sad: No, but he said that I’m not the only one who has asked the same question about it. So I’m not the only one who has notice that it isn’t the same as the old bottle. To bad, I cant ware it any more.

This scent is very soft with subtle silky vanilla powdery notes. Reminds me of sweet pipe tobacco or those wine tipped cigars, vanilla and very soft florals. Perfect for daytime wear and evening wear in my opinion. Feels sensual, mysterious, warm and wispy.

I wore the perfume oil in the 80s as a kid. I think it was the first time I’d owned a perfume that wasn’t one of my mums hand me downs. I think back to how that soft warm musky smell enveloped me like a furry blanket and wanted me to purr like a cat. Instantly recognisable on anyone that wore it, it’s stood the test of time, and for a long time I forgot about it, opting for more expensive channels, lancomes or Ninas. As I am now grown up I visited Body Shop for a xmas pressie for my boyfriends mum. Seeing they had an offer
