Description

The new edition from the Essence Collection by Ferrari is the warm woody – spicy scent called Vetiver Essence. This fragrance supposedly embodies the timeless masculine elegance. Each fragrance from the collection, which includes Essence Oud, Essence Musk, Leather Essence, Silver Essence and Cedar Essence, shows a different side of the legendary Ferrari Gran Turismo spirit.

The composition is woody – spicy and a slightly gourmand. It opens with accords of Calabrian bergamot, red and Sichuan pepper and cardamom. The heart includes aroma of coffee, orris root and essence of vetiver. Patchouli, tonka and hazel wood form the base of the perfume.

The fragrance is available as 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
Vetiver Essence was launched in 2014.

Good generic masculine perfume and a safe buy for sure (at least for half of its average price).
Longevity is high (minimum 6 hrs) as expected for an EDP, still alive after a shower. Projection is moderate.
The scent itself is a regular vetiver on its dark side, with no thrills or fancy evolutions.
Wearability is the strenght, price its weakness.

Whilst not really a fan of strong vetiver fragrances, I decided to blind buy this, and I’m glad I did.
It’s a well blended clean vetiver, with a nice mix of citrus, peppery, and minty notes.
I’d say it was a cooling type of scent, and definitely masculine in my opinion.
Great value (Bought for £21; smells like £50 bottle)
7.5 out of 10 for scent. Only tried it once so far but longevity seemed average to good.

It smells just like old classic bar of soap smelt. Dislike.

I love that this is not just another vetiver bomb (as there are already so many that do this so well) and that this is (like the other Essence line scents I have) is an effort to show how the core note plays with a variety of other notes when balanced out to the point that they all seem like supporting notes to one another. I bought it hoping that this would be just such an experience, and it did not disappoint.
Where the Silver, Leather and Amber Essences brought a significant supporting wood note, this being based on vetiver obviously didn’t need that as much since the “woodsy” side was already well represented, this one brings a potent mixture of spices – pepper notes for pop and a healthy dose of cardamom because cardamom is lovely in darker concoctions like this. With patchouli, bergamot and coffee to round things out the effect I’d imagine is somewhat like layering Givenchy Play over a light application of Encre Noir.
As a junkie for woody-spicy blends and one who struggles with anything aquatic, I think I am done building my Essence line collection with these four, one for each season, unless I succumb to curiosity and surrender an order for Oud Essence.

I sprayed once the first time and didn’t get much of anything so this time I used 4 spays to the chest (about 25 minutes ago). And now my perception is quite different. I can’t say I smell an obvious vetiver note but it does smell like an odd, murky composition. Yes, it seems that spice, patchouli, etc. and even coffee is present, but it’s sort of like taking bright oil paints and blending them together until you get a medium brown color with just hints of the original pigments. So I do find it interesting but not all that enjoyable. It’s not sweet, nor animalic, at least not yet. I’ll update if anything changes. The dull color of the bottle certainly seems appropriate!
UPDATE: The longevity isn’t very good, so I can’t say I endorse this scent, but I can imagine some enjoying it, though others might really dislike it.

Really nice. No complaints on this one at all. Probably one of the best under 40.00 buys I’ve made. I’ve never smelled vetiver tonka to make any references but if this is a close copy then you surely can’t go wrong given the price.
    8.5/10

A very underrated fragrance. This one should definitely get more love in the fragrance community. Vetiver Essence is a beginner intake into the world of vetiver scents. This one is a recommended try before venturing into the heavy-hitters such as Encre Noire or Sycomore. With Vetiver Essence I get the vetiver, woods, hazelnut, and spices. A very pleasing aroma. It almost comes close to being a Vetiver Tonka clone, but at a much more affordable price!

beautiful scent, fresh and intoxicating, much like fahrenheit 32 of 2012 before the reformulation, in fact before 2012 vetiver was very prominent, after the vanilla has got the upper hand. vetiver essence could be used as aroma therapy, really beautiful beautiful, sillage and projection are excellent, hard on clothes for giorni.grazie ferrari for this hidden gem.

In 2014, Ferrari has launched another two fragrances to enlarge its Essence Collection, which already had Essence Oud and Silver Essence (2012), in addition to Essence Musk and Leather Essence (2013). This time, the ingredients chosen to give life to the fragrances were cedar and vetiver. Born, then, Cedar Essence (April 2014) and Vetiver Essence (October 2014).
Vetiver Essence comes in the standard bottle, which was created for this collection, bringing special paints and impeccable finishing, as metal lid and leather. Once again, the company used one of its patented colors for the Ferrari GT range: Grigio Silverstone 458.
The official composition contains notes of Calabrian bergamot, red pepper, Sichuan Pepper and cardamom, in the output; Coffee, Iris and vetiver from Haiti, in the body of the fragrance; Patchouli, tonka bean and hazelnut, in the base.
On the skin, Vetiver Essence exudes virility. Although the key ingredient of this creation, the vetiver here is not the absolute star. So humble, shares space with the peppers and the iris. When sprayed, it is spicier than green. The cardamom and the peppers in the beginning remind us of male classics of yore. The coffee, present in the body of the fragrance, is light and almost imperceptible. In this stage of evolution, the vetiver dominates and tells the story. Is not open and alive, but also is not heavy and dry. It is average and balanced, within the standard. From the base, I expected much more of the hazelnuts, but there’s a certain creaminess, whose responsibility belongs to the tonka bean.
A few times, reminded me of Guerlain Homme in some nuances when, in fact, I expected greater kinship with Encre Noire, through a more refined and Italian interpretation. It projects well at first, but becomes weak. The lasting is good, but did not survive for more than 8 hours on my skin. For an Eau de Parfum, behaves like an Eau de Toilette, which is not positive.
In General, I would say that it’s the closest to the famous “woody fragrance” that men like (although full of spicy nuances). However, the olfactory pyramid promises much more than the fragrance delivers as a result. In my imagination, a high quality vetiver blended with notes of iris, hazelnuts and coffee sounded like a true champion of innovation and pleasure. That was my biggest deception.
But don’t get me wrong! Vetiver Essence is a great choice for those who love scents with spicy and woody nuances. When I felt it, for the first time, was my option when compared to cedar and musk versions (Cedar Essence and Essence Musk, respectively). In fact, along with Cedar Essence, seems to me to be the most successful in terms of public acceptance, as well as in versatility. And I say more: inside the Essence Collection, Vetiver Essence is what most conveys masculinity, as symbol of virility without effort, one that is natural and exudes from the man full of vigour and strength. Worth a try in order to draw your own conclusions.

I really enjoy this fragrance, everything works well together and it’s almost like nothing I have smelled before, least in my neck of the woods. Drydown is amazing. Like what you like and wear it, I do.
This is one of my top 3 vetyver fragrances I own.

    New review (10/20/2016):
I had to re-review my impressions of this Ferrari Vetiver Essence, since I got a new 50ml bottle and discovered that both notes I made before are not accurates. I had a decant that I made a full wear and the impressions were those I wrote before: a vetiver in the lines of L’occitane Vetyver. But it is not. The feeling I have is that the decant had some other scent in it, or at least the remains of another one. I now have Vetiver Silver Essence and its like Silver Essence mixed with that L’Occitane or, I don’t know. This bottle which now I have feels more sinthetic; I can’t detect clearly a vetiver note that I´m used too: not the smooth one we have in that L’Occitane, nor the ones which made famous scents like Kenzo Air, Paul Smith Story, HeWood Rocky Mountain and new ones like Encre Noire Sport (remembering that the traditional Encre Noire I think is a scent in other cathegory, for its strong and bold character). Anyway, I´m just a bit disappointed because what I had (a bad mixed decant) I liked better. Well, feeling this scent now a bit nondescript, I think I can quote Cassiano’s review as a much better guideline. Anyway, considering my last purschases, this is easily a choice I’d make in the place of Ck2 (just for ilustrate that this is not a bad scent). As for Silver Essence, I couldn’t help think about Armani Atitude, but less sweet, without the fresh start of Armani, and more woody on its all evolution. Pitty, I thought this Vetiver Essence was an improved L’Occitane Vetyver, my fault on buying that decant. But this Ferrari line is indeed interesting. Having trying and bought Cedar Essence, Pure Lavender, Silver Essence and Vetiver Essence, if not spetactular, they are all good. My favourite still is Pure Lavender. Cedar Essence came next, and I´m not sure yet about the other two. Just wanting to try the others of the line. All bottles is pretty much the same but that’s ok ‘causa all look neat.
    Past review:
This is the third of this quite interesting Ferrari line I have tried, Cedar Essence and Pure Lavender (so far my favourite)being the others. This is an ok scent, pleasant, smooth vetiver based perfume, but on aplication I found it very similar to L’Occitane Vetyver. I couldn’t find my bottle yet, but they smell similar, with the difference, I’m taking it by memory, that L’Occitane lasts much more than this Ferrari. I got a decant; could be a trick and what I got was a diluated L’Occitane Vetyver?! Anyone else knows that Occitane to share some thoughts :)?
Well now I have found my L’Occitane (6.25.2016) and differences are a little more evident. Pushing by memory wasn’t difficult because it is the same smooth vetiver type, not the one we find for example, in Encre Noir Sport, Kenzo Air or HeWood Rocky Mountain and others. Well Ferrari Vetyver seens to have a fresher and creamy element and finishes more strongly on woods, while L’Occitane finishes pretty much the same as it started. They look alike but I slightly prefer Ferrari.

    Down right disappointing 🙁
Nothing in this fragrance smells genuine!
Not the vetiver (what I bought it for.. no wonder people say “not for vetiver lover”), not the cardamon (silly me, hoping for something like Voyage d`Hermes), not the bergamot (I just smell something sour and fresh-ish green), and definitely not the potentially gourmand hazelnut and coffee (one can only hope)…
However, it does deliver the sharp peppers [opening] and the patchouli [drydown], which doesn’t help -_-
Interesting maybe, but overall a pretty messy cheap smelling commercial type

The name would be vetiver spicy.
Since the opening is fresh and spicy, but cardamom is intense, a spice which is used to flavor to coffee, I feel it more with a fruity but slightly resinous aroma and hazelnut with that woody aspect somewhat creamy almond, reminds me tamarind, very nice scent.
Later comes a slight hint of pepper and the focus note, that is vetiver, as not to stand out alone in the fragrance, accompanies this amazing combination, giving a differential in a perfume vetiver base, making a young vetiver and somewhat seductive.
This Ferrari line is satisfying me a lot.

I want to add this to my Ferrari’s Collection (currently comprised of Oud Essence and Leather Essence). I’ve concluded plans to buy Cedar Essence and Musk Essence. Sadly, Vetiver Essence is EXTREMELY HARD to find in my country. Please anyone with ideas where I could buy this online? Thanks!

Certainly not a mainstream fresh vetiver, but close to encre noire kind of earthy dark vetiver. The dry down smells like there could be rose in this. If you want a challenge this is your fragrance. Longetivity and sillage are great!

When I saw the note breakdown I thought it could be a similar scent to Viaggio D´Africa, but to me it didn´t, to me Vetiver Essence is a dark earthy citrus like Vetiver with some Cardamom, but the Cardamom is noticeable when it starts to dry down a little, first you get this dark earthy vetiver / to me the vetiver note is similar to Encre Noire /, then after some time the cardamom comes out and I don´t get anything else, maybe a littlebit of Pink Pepper and that´s it, but I like it. Longevity and Projection are great on me. The bottle looks really great, I give VE a 7/10

A unique vetiver fragrance – not for all vetiver lovers but for vetiver lovers looking for a vetiver scent that is a little different, it’s worth trying.
Props to Ferrari again for stepping up their game with yet another quality, interesting EDP release. Vetiver Essence is definitely EDP quality, in fact it was so strong it initially made my eyes water with a few small sprays. Projection was fairly strong when I tested it, too strong at times judging from my burning eyes, and longevity was good.
I would describe this as a dry, “brown” vetiver. Surely most of us have smelled many “green” vegetal vetiver fragrances. To my nose, Vetiver Essence comes across as a dry, brown desert vetiver whose Arabic roots definitely show through. There is a greenness to it, there’s no mistaking it’s a vetiver scent. But that is all underpinned by a coffee note, some apparent nuttiness and something that almost smells leathery to me. Easily one of the more interesting scents I’ve tried in a while, and certainly the most unique vetiver. If I had to compare this to anything I’ve smelled, I’d say it’s closest to Ungaro III.
Definitely worth at least trying for lovers of vetiver. It’s a pass for me, I won’t be buying a bottle, but not because it isn’t any good. Vetiver tends to burn me out on it quickly, so the few vetiver scents I already own more than suffice.

The notes in this fragrance give it a tantalizing prospect.Given the name of the fragrance I was expecting a prominent dose of vetiver in overall feel and I was let down.
Right from first spray you get get the bright bergamot opening and that lasts for about ten minutes by which time the peppers and vetiver announce their presence in full.It really does not take long for the warm notes of tonka, cardamom, coffee, hazelnut and patchouli to blend in to give this a pleasing feel.
My overall impression of this is it’s a woody, earthy and leathery fragrance that does not leave me wowed as a vetiver lover. The vetiver here is slighly smoky but not as dominant as what I am used to in other vetiver loaded scents. In fact, the peppers help give this its spicy edge:they remain well into the dry down.I honestly do not pick up much coffee nor patchouli but the cardamom and tonka are noticeable throughout .The hazelnut somehow gets muddled up in there somehow. It’s curious how that got thrown in but my guess is it helps in giving this a leathery feel.
In terms of longevity,I have got to admit this is disappointing-at least on my skin. After a couple of hours or so of wearing this on cool autumnal days, the vetiver simply whimpers as the scent begins to disappear creating a close-to-skin scent bubble. Dont be fooled here this is really spicy and if you do not like ‘hot and spicy’ fragrances then this is not for you.Given that it is an EDP,I am disappointed.I was expecting a longer duration but I guess that’s the problem with most EDP’s:they are either too dense or the notes are not umped up well.
Given its performance, this will be great for spring, cool evenings and for autumn. It will not cut it in winter as it’s just not potent enough to cut through the layers. One way of getting more out of this is to spray more and avoid the chest area lest you fall into sneezing fits from the peppers.
Overall, this gives a warm and pleasing sensation. One that lives up to its classification as woody spicy.Highly recommended for those who are either new to vetiver or are not massive fans of the note.I can only see this as an attempt to try something new with an already saturated market and somehow the experiment just got lost in execution and leaves me guessing what they were trying to execute here
I will not recommend blind buying this especially not at retail price anyway unless you get it dead cheap.Give it a try and see
