Velvet Orchid Tom Ford for women of Tom Ford

Share:

Description

The new feminine perfume creation from designer Tom Ford is called Velvet Orchid as an association of the most popular vamp fragrance of this house Black Orchid that was launched in 2006. The new version Velvet Orchid comes out in 2014 and carries on the legacy of bold and glamorous floral signature that promises a unique character, atmosphere and experience of the scent.

The fragrance opens itself with bergamot, mandarin, Succan absolute (purified rum extract) and honey. At the core of this creation (made of “corporeal floral notes.”) is Tom Ford‘s distinctive, “timeless” signature – an imaginary accord of black orchid blended with notes of velvet orchid, which gives the perfume its name, with intense Turkish rose oil and jasmine and a new accord of purple orchid that grows in the wilds of southern Brazilian coast. There are also additional floral notes of orange blossom, rose absolute, narcissus, hyacinth and heliotrope. The base is warm due to the rich flavors of Peru balsam, myrrh, labdanum, sandalwood, suede and vanilla.

This new luxurious perfume is available in dim purple bottles of classic Tom Ford designs in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum concentration.
Velvet Orchid was created by Yann Vasnier, Calice Becker, Shyamala Maisondieu and Antoine Maisondieu.

It smells a lot not like Black Orchid, but Black Orchid Voile de Fleur. Very floral. Orchid is really the most noticeable.
    Dark and rich!

Beautiful on paper but sadly this is just not that impressive on my skin. Compared to BO EDP, I find it too soapy, lacks depth, sexiness or personality and I am not sure why. The notes make sense and it could be a summer version of BO but it’s just not. Pity.

A scrubbed-up floral version of Black Orchid. None of the ‘dirty bits’ of B.O., but still very dense and lush. Easier to wear during the daytime. Black Orchid is one of my all time favorite perfumes, but I’m very happy to have this sister scent to wear when the original would be a bit too much.

Nanavalente, I agree. I also smell violet, as in violet candy/pastilles.

On my skin I feel star anis and it really reminds of Loverdose, anyone else??

Oh the joy – I have unsuccessfully tried to wear Black Orchid but it just smells so much better on my husband than me and now I have a Tom Ford Orchid of my own. I think it has all the richness of Black Orchid but just so much more feminine – cannot wait to try the Lumiere version too. YUM YUM YUM

I should not like this so much. Coconut tends to get loud and screechy on me, the reason I was so disappointed with Black Orchid was it reminded me of a chocolate Lamington cake.
This seems to be the same type of coconut (meaty, not milky) but it’s more refined and does not screech from my skin. It’s less sweet, more versatile and more of what I was expecting to get out of the original Black Orchid.
I feel dangerous and sexy wearing this. I think the honeyed boozyness is what saves it. It’s done with aplomb. It does remind me somewhat of Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion Parfume Concentrate (minus the incense), but much more high quality and better blended.
Looking forward to see what layering can do with this little beauty! Layered a little vintage Opium over this and now it really does remind me of Passion.

I cannot be without Velvet Orchid.
    I’ve repurchaced this five times.
This is so well blended it is hard to isolate single notes except for the rum: glorious.
    The usual Tom Ford DNA.
Both the projection and the longevity are excellent. This is easy to wear in that I do not feel enveloped in the fragrance, just a gentle wafting.
    A love for me.

I blind bought this perfume and from the moment I opened the bottle, I fell in love. You smell the richness and beauty of this fragrance before even spraying it, and that in itself is something. I’ll say upfront that I prefer it to Black Orchid.
This is not a perfume for the faint hearted and to me it is the epitome of what I love in fragrances – it is sweet and it is smoldering.
Rich, heavy and long-lasting, it is the stuff of bold sensuality.

I love honey, heliotrope, suede… but this is a hot sticky mess. I don’t know if it has too much going on without balance, but it’s cloying and “trying too hard”. Maybe too many perfumers involved for the result to be cohesive?

This is beauty and luxury impersonation. The first spray is sharp strong spicy leather but very soon it turns to soft sandalwood and vanilla. That way it smells for days on my clothes. The sillage and longevity are enormous.

Such a gorgeous scent, but unfortunately I don’t reach for it often cuz I smell it a lot on others..

I only put on a tiny spritz to wrist. First impression is that it’s a very warm, sweet smelling floral perfume.
I get the scent of vanilla, beeswax, musky suede and a floral bouquet which to my nose is dominated by Jasmine, neroli, honey suckle and a hint of Rose and lilac. In the bouquet there is something of a fresh-spicy nuance to it floating over something Woody (a lot like Cypress). There is a slight powdery impression. After the top notes fade yes, l do get a velvety sensation. Sightly Caramel like. Soft and cuddly, like something l want to nuzzle.
TF has a sizeable and thus bewildering selection of Black Orchid flankers. It took me a long time to decide on which one to sample at my leisure outside the retail environment.
I think l am drawn to this one because it’s not obnoxious, and is day time appropriate but still rich and kind glamorous for spring and summer. It’s almost on the level of Fracas, just shy of bombshell status. A bit more low key than that. Wear this over Capri pants, ballet flats, oversized sunglasses, a patterned kerchief and red lipstick (very retro) and you will feel instantly elevated and femme.

I have waited a couple of hours with VO on my arm. The first spray was way too sweet for me, and thankfully, the sweetest part disappeared in the first few minutes. I love black orchid and was hoping it would be a soft, and perhaps more intimate version. I smelled like a coconut dipped in honey for the first hour or so. Not unpleasant, but not what I had hoped for. After 2 hours, the scent has settled into a soft and gently warm floral with a feminine spice note, and is quite addictive. My nose buds did get a bit confused in the opening of this fragrance, but I am glad that I bought it. It reminds me of late summer, when everything smells full and ripe. Lovely stuff.

rum + valerian drops (strong scent of an old pharmacy after spraying) + jasmine + carnation + rum/cinnamon-like spiciness + sweet creamy note. Brazilian orchid used in this composition (Cattleya leopoldii) is said to possess wonderful sweet creamy fragrance with a hint of spices).

Velvet Orchid, for me, is a double edged sword. I want so much to like it, and there are some notes in VO I love. Sadly however, there is a grubby, dusty scent beneath those beautiful boozy notes, that I just can’t stand. The base notes unsettle me, and I can’t get past it.
If anyone has a bottle of VO Lumiere that you’d like to swap for a full bottle of VO, please let me know.

This was an impulse buy because I LOVE black orchid! There is a slight similarity, but they are pretty different. When I first put it on I was worried that the strong powdery smell was going to make me smell like an old lady. After about half an hour it transformed into a powdery floral vanilla that I love. And the longevity in amazing!

  18. :

This is so opposite to Black Orchid!
Velvet Orchid on my skin goes straight to sandalwood and vanilla with tom fords significant woody accords hanging around.
This could be office perfume as well as bedroom.

  19. :

Lost me @ the dry down. The “suede accord” really sticks out to my nose as it doesn’t harmonize with my skin at all – but it does really smell like my ankle boots that I got last year, ha ha! I wish Tom Ford would have chosen a musk note instead of the suede thing since the opening of this is really divine.

I can’t wear Black Orchid, but on my skin Velvet Orchid instead comes out beautiful! A dream to wear, dark and magical. Very longlasing. This is strong stuff, two genlte sprays is enough for many, many hours. My favorite dark perfume for the moment. Best in autumn and winter.

Finally purchased this today with Black Orchid coming to me on the weekend. I love this sooo much! It helped me get over a break up, honestly. I’m so confident when I wear this boozy, resinous floral. Tom Ford always delivering the confidence boosting goods!

Black Orchid is a no no for me, something disturbs me inn there, but I can see myself wearing this one. Am I the only one who gets a bit of a figgy touch with VO? Something resembling some Mugler nuance….

  24. :

A tipsy orchid. Absolutely. I can see it just like a movie. This beauty queen is idly lying on the green moss, drinking premium rum, slowly eating and enjoying sweet honey & nectar, sniffing golden pollen & dust. This orchid is a hedonistic pleasure-seeker, still dreaming of spiced schnapps, plain chocolate, candied fruit, smoky resins & intoxicating exotic flowers that could make it even more satisfied.
In sum, this is an addictive seductiveness in a bottle.

This is the richest perfume I’ve ever smelled. It’s so deep and sensual. It really smells like velvety purple roses. I just wish that for all of these perfume ads, they could pick better people to pose for them besides Gigi, Kendall, Cara… they are not even classy anymore. But I guess that is Tom Ford’s main image.

Love Black orchid, presumed I would love this too, but underneath the very-similar -to-BlackOrchid scent is a note I do not like, it’s something savoury, cumin or curry leaf, maybe both. That faded and there is a brief period of it smelling just about ok before it starts to smell like skin that has been licked, it isn’t pleasant at all.
I’ll stick to Black Orchid in future.

I LOVE me some Black Orchid but this is infinitely more wearable. Velvet Orchid is just a lush, sexy scent that somehow manages to be office-friendly and yet utterly unique and attention-grabbing. Always a compliment-getter. I can’t imagine anyone not liking this fragrance. It can lean a little sharp but there is a suede aspect that balances it all out. I can wear this anytime, to work or wherever, and not feel self-conscious whereas I really have to be feeling confident or simply not caring of what people think when I wear BO.

I used to be a Black Orchid addict… until my senses stumbled across this beauty! If this was a woman she would be that quite, sexy, elegant librarian with smothering eyes and a brain to match!!
Black Orchid for me was more serious, sexy dark chocolate and grounded, an older sister. Both absolute amazing beauties, but my nose prefers the slightly more playful and sweeter Velvet Orchid. I encourage trying both and experiencing the difference!

My boyfriend compliments me every time I wear this perfume. I do like it, but I have to be in the mood for it. I don’t spray it on every day. I have to want to smell this fragrance all around me.

  30. :

Velvet Orchid removed all the things i strongly dislike about Black Orchid and added new notes that makes this a love. I really do not like that wet soil earthy smell i get in BO. I tried to wear BO a few times and I just can’t do it.
VO is sweet, floral and a bit boozy. It is intoxicating. Every time I wear it I love it more. I’m ready to scent my whole house with it! lol. If you do not like BO like me, give VO a try. you won’t be disappointed.

This is a sensual and complex fragrance. Mature and elegant. Comforting and decadent.
Velvet Orchid is really velvety, thanks to a very well crafted suede note (the best suede I’ve ever smelled in perfumes). It is also a bit powdery, a bit fresh and a bit flowery. This contrast beautifully with the richness of the rum.
It is much more wearable than Black Orchid, and in my opinion, sexier.
It is unlikely to offend anyone, but it has enough character to be remembered.
I recommend it to dark and sweet women of all ages. I think scorpio women will specially like it.

Beautiful fragrance, but I don’t wear it as often as I should. There are days for this kind of scent. It reminds me of wet, somber days when everything turns out wrong kind of day, and a whiff of this will tell you everything will turns out just fine.

For me, this opens very dusty/musty smelling and it stays that smell for a good couple of hours, before ultimately settling into a soft, sweet almost gourmand scent. Once this dries down to that scent, it is actually to me a similar scent and nothing really remarkable. While I do adore Black Orchid as being unique, but to me, Velvet Orchid is not unique. On my skin and to my nose Velvet Orchid, while pleasant enough once it dries down, is nothing unique nor special. Add in the dusty/musty smell that I get for the first hour or two, and this one..well, not one of my best purchases, imho. I saw at one point this was voted as being similar to DKNY Delicious Night, and I kind of agree (Velvet Orchid I can actually detect the blackberry/fruity scent about it that DKNY Delicious Night has). Not dupes, but definitely very similar scents.
But to me, this is a subdued sweet scent. Not overly sweet nor sickeningly sweet nor cloying, but sweet. I do not pick up much else, no floral or anything else. To me this is nothing like Black Orchid; they are literally like night (BO) and day (VO). Black Orchid is very earthy compared to this. This Velvet Orchid to me is just a soft sweetness, a little fruity and nothing original. I realize there are no fruity notes listed, but that is what my nose picks up. I would actually classify this as gourmand, if pressed to classify this. This also has not near the longevity of Black Orchid. BO lasts all day on my skin and sometimes even through a shower. Velvet Orchid fades to a soft skin scent on my skin after about 3 hours. Those who say Velvet Orchid is more wearable compared to Black Orchid are correct, imo. I feel Velvet Orchid to me would be office-safe and crowd-friendly, Black Orchid to me is a little too powerful and a little too “unique” to be office-safe or crowd-friendly. So sorry for the heavy comparisons, but being so many have said this is similar to Black Orchid, I wanted to share my experience. Everyone’s experiences can be helpful!

We had a hippie/gypsy bookstore in Salt Lake City where I grew up. I was a teen and must have spent a fortune there on gifts and books and cards… I would try on all of their fragrance oils that I could. They had a million different blends. I loved them so much. The bottles were your typical tubes glued into a wooden base, and you would unscrew the cap and you would dot your skin with thick oils on a little glass wand.
This stuff smells like that old store I used to visit! (Of course it was sold and probably turned into a parking lot).
Jasmine, Sandalwood, Rose, plus many others I can’t name here, all are wrapped up into this delicate but powerful little number. I get the honey and maybe rum, but the flowers pop in right away and if there are citruses, I can’t really make them out but they probably kick the flower scents in. The notes are not a big surprise–I tend to gravitate towards jasmine, vanilla, sandalwood and bergamot–but I have never had a fragrance come my way with suede and Peru balsam.
Another Tom Ford pleaser. He really gets the most out of his scents. Even though I love so many of his, the vintage bookstore quality is probably going to be the next on my list.

Here’s the thing, I really do like this scent but I’ve discovered it gives me sinus headaches about 1-2 hours of wearing it. My husband is a fan and it feels like a lovely musky floral but I also get quite a bit of vanilla. Projection and sillage are nice or rather just right for the scent.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

It’s a softer, less melon-filled Black Orchid. If you find Black Orchid lovely, but a tadddd too weird, try Velvet Orchid out. It’s not as strong and dries down to a lovely almost powdery scent.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

I am divided. I would say that this perfume is more like balsamic on me. I have softness in it, just like its name. I think the ingredients are strangely combined … I’m not a fan, but I would not say it’s a bad perfume. The bottle is lovely. I adore dark purple. Luxurious and dear, but the perfume does not impress me so much, especially for the price class.

I took a hit of both this and Black Orchid at Nordstrom’s yesterday. I found the BO too masculine. My husband agreed, briefly considering it for himself before ultimately deciding it veered too feminine for his tastes. The DNA connection between the two fragrances, however, is undeniable. The difference is there’s more flowers and less “edge” in Velvet Orchid. It’s warm and sexy. Sillage is great and it lasts forever. I don’t think it’s loud or overbearing but I wouldn’t consider it office safe or the best choice in warmer temperatures. I do find Tom Ford’s pretentious self-importance endlessly annoying, but I’ll still be getting a bottle of this in the near future.

This to me is an easier to wear more feminine version of black orchid .. Very sexy , very elegant and very personified . If you don’t know black orchid then I dont think you will get what I am saying but i believe most people smelled it at some point.

I hate sweet perfumes so much, but this one is different. The smell of rum & laudanum are heavenly together.
Personally, I love this after incense دخون / بخور you know a woody or an oud scent before spraying this one.
When I went to test it out before buying it, I sprayed it after Chanel tendre & my friends couldn’t stop sniffing me and telling me how good I smell.
I bought the 100 ml, I was hesitant to though – because of all the reviews complaining about how sweet it is.. but it really isn’t bad as they made it sound, smell it & try it on your skin / clothes.

Tried a sample today and yes this is lovely but at my age (50 in April) it’s not a unique fragrance, I have definitely had a perfume that smells the same somewhere way in the past, can’t remember what it was but it was just as beautiful as this. I love trying these modern perfumes that get rave reviews then discovering the similarities to vintage fragrances I guess that’s the advantage we ‘older’ fragranticans have over the younger generation 🙂 Definitely a Winter Fragrance for me.

I bought TF Velvet Orchid because I LOVE it and Black Orchid is my signature scent! BUT, it makes me sneeze 🙁 SO weird as Black Orchid doesn’t?!?!?! I am so bummed as I bought a huge bottle. Does anyone want to swap a Black Orchid for my Velvet Orchid? It is a 3.4 fl.oz bottle and I there is about 85% left. I bought it at Nordstrom’s but don’t have any of the packaging. Message me if interested 🙂

I’ve tried samples of this a couple of times. I really wanted to like it, because it has a gorgeous name and looks and sounds luxurious. But I find it too over-the-top, too boozy, too flowery, too sickly sweet. It’s like this fragrance is trying too hard to be “feminine” (whatever that means – I regard the gendering of perfumes with suspicion). I can detect its relation to Black Orchid and I like the orchid note on the dry-down, but the over-the-top alcoholic sweetness doesn’t go away on my skin. That’s what this fragrance feels like to me – when you’ve had too much of some rich, sugary, syrupy liqueur and feel slightly nauseous afterward. Black Orchid, on the other hand…divine. I love it.

  45. :

    3 out of 5

I am not the hugest fan of the original Black Orchid even though I have struggled to overcome it. I WANT to love it, It is technically everything I should love in a perfume, goth in a bottle: it’s dark, it’s deep, it’s BIG. But something in it ( I suspect the truffle) gives me an instant nauseated headache.
Velvet Orchid is very recognizable to me as a flanker. The BO DNA is there but this version is infinitely more wearable. It’s has the same dark vibe but it’s not as deep or heavy. Less unisex more femme. I love the boozy sticky honey florals over the base of oriental resins and suede. Amazing silage and longevity.
Velvet Orchid is a beauty and I adore it

  46. :

Wow, this one is nicer than Black Orchid. It is missing the note that makes me feel nauseous every time I smell it. This is softer and gentler. Very nice and sweet. Very friendly I think. Although I have had compliments on BO, I think this one is a bigger winner. Now I want to try Violet Blonde ……

Velvet Orchid took me by surprise. I loved it so much that I just had to have it and it is worth every penny. It starts out with a boozy honeyed sweetness, then of course the most prominent note is the beautiful orchid. It smells simply divine. As it settles on the skin myrrh mixes with the orchid, creating the most exotic, rich and deeply beautiful scent. It smells like something a princess living in some faraway exotic land would wear. I am utterly addicted to this! There is a long list of individual notes in Velvet Orchid, but other than the honey, orchid and myrrh I cannot identify any other individual notes. They are masterfully blended and create a deep, rich very classy perfume. I am completely in love with Velvet Orchid. I rarely describe scents in terms of sex appeal, but this is the sexiest scent I have ever encountered. It radiates sweet feminity and it drips with a mysterious allure. This is a perfume that I think would go fantastically with a beautiful evening gown, something in a dark shade with smoky make up. Unfortunately my lifestyle does not include many such events, thus I wear this fragrance casually. I wear a bit to work on a particularly cold day, I wear this while running errands in winter, I wear this out on dates often. I sometimes indulge in this after my evening bath before bed. It is such a luxurious fragrance, it makes me feel dressed up and adds a little sweet luxury even to the most mundane days.

I received this from my Scentbird subscription this month. I’ve never tried Black Orchid so I can’t compare but I think Velvet Orchid is a rich and beautiful fragrance. The name describes it perfectly. I smell the rum and honey notes with the first spray and then the orchid really comes out. It’s very sweet but some greener florals like hyacinth also peek through. The dry down is warm and powdery with vanilla, myrrh, and sandalwood. And boy, do I love myrrh! It’s one of my favorite notes. I will wear this often this fall and winter. So luxurious. I love it!

Beautiful floral parfum exotic sexy Oriental I’m no good at describing perfumes but I do love this perfume. When I first wear her I was in New York Fashion Week with my American friends. The first notes I smell are the citrus mandarin and bergamot orange, alcohol rum and sweet honey. The honey and the flowers is feminine and mature with a lot of orchid jasmine rose heliotrope and hyacinth. There’s many flowers I could not smell all of them. The dry down is musk and suede or leather with a little vanilla and balsamic notes of myrrh incense and sandalwood. So gorgeous. Good for wearing at night with formal evening dress, black or deep purple. Glamorous and sophisticated the most beautiful perfume Tom Ford made for women!

Sprayed this on my wrist yesterday mid-afternoon. By noon today it is still clearly with me, even after washing the wrist late last night in an attempt to remove or tone it down.
Opening thoughts – sweet sweet sweet! Candyfloss, sugar, pink flowery Barbie dolls UGH! Just a hair’s breadth away from a cheap generic “celebrity” body fragrance.
And then it starts to settle down and you find that it’s actually…got a slow, rhythmically beating heart. The true quality of the blend starts to come through. Of course, it’s still sweet fragrance and that never goes away, but the sweetness develops a richness and quality. It’s a little heavy at times, a little sultry, but in a very feminine way. Not an all-out sexy perfume, to my thinking, though I can understand why so many people think it has a sexiness to it.
Most women could pull this off without any problems as long as they’re careful not to overdo it, since it’s so powerful and has such phenomenal longevity. I do think it smells “nice” on me, but the wafts of hyacinth would prevent me from owning this perfume, since that is a note I detest. Far too sweet for my personal taste, but what a fantastic introduction to the house of Tom Ford. I can’t wait to explore further!

    From love to hate
My nose played a trick with me. Sadly, I must admit I couldn’t love this perfume. At first, in hot weather, it seemed beautiful and honey-floral boozy sweetness with a woody base. So I bought a bottle of it and sprayed it. On initial spray I smelled only myrrh and sickening florals, dark and boozy. So I left it to sit for a while, thinking that should just calm down after shipping. And then in few weeks it was same. And after two months, it was same, horrible, sickening myrrh drenched in floral nectar and rum.
By coincidence, I visited a church around that time and just as I went in, it struck me: Velvet Orchid! It was just the same, that sweet icky myrrh and sticky flower petals, the atmosphere of gloom and darkness. This is when I decided to get rid of it and never smell it again.
I thought my bottle was bad, so I went to try it in several different stores again and it was same bad. So yes, our nose can sometimes trick us.
I know every perfume develops depending on skin chemistry and I happen to have ‘cool’ skin, which is not best for such fragrances.
For longevity I’d give it 7/10.
But this fragrance is NOT safe for a blind buy, I’d recommend trying it several times before buying.
As for the balsamic note, I feel Chanel Coco vibe in Velvet Orchid, but Coco is so much sexier, cleaner, charming and joyful.

All I can say is I want a full bottle now! I only have a small tester bottle, so I only do a one wrist spritz so I can test over a longer period and I find myself constantly with my wrist up to my nose. Starting to look like a crazy lady. Will update when I finally have a full bottle to test and apply more liberally.

I ordered a tester on ebay to try it after all I`ve read and heard here. After the first spray I had the initial impression like I have definitely smelled this before – probably a blend of all sorts of half-sweet & half-heady perfumes like Marc Jacobs Lola and Thierry Mugler Alien: it wasn`t unfamiliar at all for sure. But sniffing on it for about half an hour a very rich and luxurious aroma unfolds, the initial sweetness disappears after a short while to give way to the rum, myrhh and orchid. Striking effect! But I was disappointed to find hours later only a reminiscent of this blast and what is left rather reminds me of something cheap and musky..I would definitely get a small bottle or a rollerball though, for nights out or when I want to feel sexy, because freshly applied it is simply divine!

    * These are my personal experiences/thoughts with this fragrance. Yours/others may differ. *
    Initial – rum + honey + sandalwood
    Drydown – orchid + sandalwood + vanilla + myrrh + suede + labdanum
Duration – unknown (had to remove after an hour, but this does persist through showering)
    Projection – moderate
Experiences – Quite an interesting blend of notes, but way too intense on my own skin (with only 1 spritz). I think I would enjoy this fragrance from a distance, but up close and personal I feel like I can taste it, and it’s quite heady and a bit sickening.
Quick Thoughts – sensually sweet, powdery, suede, so-strong-you-can-taste, nauseating

I’m in love with this perfume. I can’t stop smelling my wrist. It’ has such a sexy, but elegant sent to it. I can really detect the rum, orchid, honey, jasmine, and vanilla in it. It’s so much softer than Black Orchid, which I wasn’t really a fan of. Very beautiful and sweet fragrance.

When wet, the rum really sticks out, but as soon as it dries the orchid blooms. It is not quite powdery, more dry. It is definitely not juicy, or fresh, but plush and snuggly, while still being sexy. I can’t wait to wear this in cooler weather, because it is absolutely my jam.

well…reading the reviews here, I was interested in trying this but everyone seem to describe it as a “brunette” scent so no way for me!! is there any pendant for blondes, too? just wondering…

    Velvet orchid to me is:
A refined classy brunette in a fitted black dress with a slick side parted low bun and plum lipstick sipping scotch on the rocks at a fancy bar. Elegant, strong and sexy.
Despite my best efforts i was repulsed by black orchid; it was so pungent and turned my stomach. But i gave velvet orchid a go, blind ( very bold) and i absolutely love it! Its just lighter and more feminine but with a dark sexy tome to it. It lasts hours too so was worth the ouch factor pricetag
Edit: I find myself getting really stuffy sinuses for about a day after wearing this for some reason, there must be a note in there that doesnt agree with me. But it doesnt stop me from loving it. I only pull it out for really special times as it is pricy and not really a grab and spritz just to go get milk kinda perfume. My husband compliments me everytime i have it on though. About 4 hours after putting it on it dries down to the most beautiful warm honey and smokey wood smell. i recently wore it to a wedding and applied it at about 3pm and i could still smell it when i got up the next day, so lasting time is phenomenal.

Though I would agree that this leans towards the more mature “young” lady, I just MELT whenever i smell this on my wife (i’m sure it smells just as amazing on any other woman).
This smells like a sexy, seductive, classy yet mysteriously sexy woman. It smells like that woman with jet black hair, beautiful green eyes, dressed very conservatively, yet she bites the end of her black rimmed glasses while looking at you and winks with that oh-so-sexy type look. She looks away but not before she smiles in a very naughty type way.
You know the one, don’t you? 🙂 yeah, this is she in a bottle! Dear lord!

Smells like something a sexy 40 year old librarian would wear… And I mean that in the very best way!
    Ladies, please wear this!
Also, never wear Black Orchid. Ever. Unless you’re going to a funeral, in which case, definitely wear Black Orchid.
All jokes aside: For me, this and Black Orchid aren’t all that similar. The brightness and warmth in this scent is EXACTLY what it needs. Black Orchid, well, it was just too cold and dark for me. All I could picture when smelling Black Orchid was seedy, damp, black soil and decaying flowers. Why someone would want to smell like Black Orchid is far beyond me, but Velvet Orchid hits the dark and seductive nail on the head! Velvet Orchid adds a bit of warmth and brightness and removes a bit of the off-putting earthiness of Black Orchid.
In terms of scents I’d like to smell on an attractive woman, Black Orchid would be at the bottom of the list, but Velvet Orchid would be AT THE TOP!!!

A very sophisticated and deep sensual scent.
Men love this perfume on women.
Perfect for the cold weather, and I recommend spraying it far from the face ideally on the middle chest or elbows and knees, otherwise can get quite overpowering.

This smells like I just walked into Yankee Candle after having sprayed Black Orchid on right before. It’s very sweet. I don’t care for it.

This one is too spicy for me. When I tested in Sephora it was more sweet rather than spicy and I loved it. However I ordered it online and for some reason this one is really spicy.I am a little disappointed…

This is my kind of obvious floral scent, as they seem to keep their place, unlike so many others, where those notes get irritating fairly quickly. I tried Black Orchid so long ago I can’t remember much, other than it seemed too strong, but then I bought the “clone,” Dark Flower, and I really like the drydown of that one (the top notes are weird but interesting). This one is smoother than DF, but it doesn’t have the strong frankincense note of DF. Overall, I do like this one but I wonder if I will mostly wear DF at times when I would have worn this one. Perhaps I’ll try layering the two!

Neither strongly male nor female, but a severely sensual, even sexual fragrance. Like it’s counterpart Black Orchid, give
