    Scent – crushed violet candy.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, at night.
    Projection – I didn’t get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 24hrs consistently.

This fragrance is driving me crazy trying to think of where I’ve smelled this before. It’s from childhood. I finally understand what the “dolls head” note is. But this is more.
It’s like the playroom of the little girls I played with as a child who lived next door to my grandparents. I thought they were rich because they had so many toys in their basement. Two identical mini kitchen sets side by side with little ovens. A zillion dolls, everywhere.
This reminds me of us as children, holding soft plastic dolls, our hair smelling like baby shampoo, our hands covered in vanilla cookie crumbs because we ate the cream filling first.
On my skin, this smells like a soft plasticky, warm vanillary sweetness. Part of me wants a full bottle because it smells great, but the childhood association is so strong…it’s like a time machine.

    This is gourmand Heaven.
It is one of a very few fragrances that left me with Wow effect.
It is much more then the listed notes.
When I spray it on the skin the oil concentration is so gorgeous that my skin shimmers for a while. At first I thought they put glitter, but no, it is concetrated perfume oil. Having said that, the perfume last with a beast mode for many hours and one can really sense a high end quality.
    Now to the scent.
This gourmand heaven creates an emotion in me, and not many fragrances can do that, specially in this modern sweet gourmy genre.
It takes me to a safe, warm place, where childhood was modelled by the imagination, and the world was a fairy tale. Dolls were pure love, and all in fact was pure love. Cookies, vanilla sugar, honey, bourbon, holidays, joy and happiness. It literally sparkles. Perfectly crafted holiday in a bottle. Little bit of Lira, some Vanille orchidee, and other great vanilla gourmies plus the emotional moment none of the others can give me.
Try if you can, I highly recommend.

This fragrance is a sugar bomb on my skin. No hint of vanilla, simple linear burnt sugar. It does smell…like a candy in a good way but it is too linear and unsophisticated.

Another one of those evocative perfumes that immediately give me an image in my head. It is somewhat reminiscent of Roberto Cavalli, but this is… daintier. When I smell Vanitas, I see a petite brunette with bronzed skin, probably Italian, that knows exactly how hot she is and has no problem exploiting that to the fullest, playing on her supposed helplessness to make men feel manly and then throwing tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. It’s a very specific association and I’m not sure why some perfumes only give me one immediate image, but it’s hard for me to get rid of it and see it in another light. I don’t mind the composition itself, but I can’t wear it.

Wore this today at work and received a nice compliment from a female co-worker. Excellent longevity and sillage and a pleasant scent to boot. Another great one from Profumum Roma!

Hmm. Vanitas is an odd one. HATE HATE HATE the opening, and indeed, the first hour. The dry-down is… nice-ish.
The first 15 minutes are, well, hell on earth. Sweet, syrupy, intense, chemical hell. So, so intense. So cloying.
The dry down is ok. After the orange blossom has finally calmed down a bit, Vanitas turns into an airy, candy floss vanilla that lasts and lasts. The sweetnes does gradually die down to tolerable levels, but it takes hours to do so. It has very good projection. It reminds me a tub of cheap vanilla ice cream, made from artificial vanilla. No hatin’, I quite like the smell of synthetic vanilla.
Avoid spraying on (white) clothes! The high concentration of perfume oils will leave a stain. Also, the already excellent longevity will reach biblical proportions.

Intense projection and longevity; it lasts until you shower it off. If it lasts on my pale dry skin, it would last on anyone. Far from my favorite vanilla just because, despite the price, it’s a plain old, uncomplicated burnt-sugar vanilla not too far a field from something you could find in a drugstore, but I can’t argue with the amount of real parfum oil in it.

This is a candy floss, sugary sort of vanilla. The fragrance isn’t piercing to my nose too much (unless I douse it) and melds nicely with my body heat. I get tons of sugary vanilla with a bit of a floral/citrus note coming from the orange flower. It’s very candy-like. I definitely see the similarities with Pink Sugar. This one is like a more refined version.

I have the small bottle and have now worn this for a couple of times. Vanita is nice and comfortable, but it lacks complexity. It is a quite straight sweet candy-ish fragrance with few notes. I think it is very nice and I will use it all up, but I wont buy this again. I also have Pink Sugar from Aquolina and I find Vanitas and Pink sugar quite similar except the price difference and the liqorice note that blasts in the beginning of Pink Sugar.

Yummy – sweet, creamy, easy to wear, appropriate for office as well as a day on the beach. Must be made with very high quality ingredients – my husband is ok with me wearing it, and most perfumes bother his nose. Not as sweet as many other Profumum creations are. Likely FB worthy for me.

Great opening, love it, a vanilla fragrance delight but not linear as the others make it an interesting take. After about an hourr though it fades away and the sillage seems lower from what I’d expect from this fragrance house. I love the freagrance though so I’d grade this one a B+, not an A because of the relatively low sillage/longevity.

I got a sample from Luckyscent and immediately fell in love. I didn’t have $250.00 to spend on a fragrance, so I bought the 18ml size for $74.00 and have been wearing it for the last 3 days. Today, three different people stopped to ask what I was wearing, and to tell me that I either smelled like cake, chocolate or vanilla. One of the persons who complemented the scent smelled it from in the hallway, as she walked by my office door, so that should give you an idea of how much Vanitas projects. I almost never receive complements on my fragrances, as my skin eats up fragrances, so I was shocked anyone smelled it. It’s sweet, but not excessively so. If you don’t like gourmand or vanilla fragrances, this one is not for you. I love it.

Lovely. I do not smell an overly sweet vanilla cake here, but rather a slightly smokey vanilla tempered by a bit of non-medicinal myrrh. I don’t smell any sandalwood and pick up only the slightest bit of orange flowers as my skin warms. It is a beautiful and very different take on vanilla, but on me is almost a skin scent. Pairing the vanilla with myrrh is brilliant. I would definitely buy this if the projection was much bigger and the price was much smaller. Gorgeous stuff.

  15. :

    5 out of 5

Profumum Vanitas for me roughly falls into the category of “powdery vanilla” though there are some woody and floral elements as well. The note breakdown is allegedly quite simply: vanilla, myrrh, orange blossom and sandalwood.
So the floral comes from the orange blossom, woods from the sandalwood, and I’m left to believe that the sharp powderiness I detect is somehow and offshoot of the mix of orange blossom and myrrh. The vanilla is still front-and-center but it’s an experience of vanilla that I seldom enjoy all that much, as it leaves me pining for a different expression of the note.
About as close as I’ve gotten to liking a powdery vanilla is in Guerlain Cuir Beluga, and Vanitas pushes the powdery floral aspect beyond Cuir Beluga. Regardless, you’re relatively likely to like one if you like the other.
As expected, the performance is very high, as is the standard expectation of the Profumum Roma house by many. Certainly worthy of sampling if it sounds good.

The vanilla is overpowered by the floral, longevity is minimal. I have to go thumbs down on this one.

  17. :

    4 out of 5

Uh, vanilla? Not really. A very tart raspberry/cherry with hints of sugared violets and licorice. Reminiscent of gummy bears. Extremely sweet, kind of soapy and a bit screechy like Profumum Roma perfumes can be. I mean nothing bad about it, as both Dulcis in Fundo and Acqua e Zucchero are screechy and intensive as well. That’s just the signature of Profumum Roma. I think this particular scent is like a sister to Fraaagola Saalaaata by Hilde Soliani.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Yes it’s a vanilla bomb, it opens very sugary, but as the time goes by the mhirr and the woody note add a soapy vibe. A pleasant interpretation of vanilla, quite similar to Profumum Battito d’Ali.

Vanitas by Profumum Roma is just an amazing parfum. It’s a vanilla bomb that is too beautiful. I am in love with this perfume. I went to Osswald on West Broadway, in NYC with only one goal – to buy myself a Christmas present – a bottle of Vanitas. I am on my third day of wearing Vanitas and I’m in perfume heaven. I am high from wearing this scent. It’s like nothing I have ever bought before. I can’t go through all the ingredients, but suffice to say, it’s amazing. Yes it smells like cake batter, cookies, sweetness and unicorns after a bath. But it’s more, it doesn’t smell like anything else. Similar to other fragrances, but it’s different. As I said, I’m in love and smiling. When I go to my perfume stash, my other profumum’s are sad because I’m neglecting them for Vanitas. Arso is angry, Ambra Aurea is not speaking to me, Acqua e Zuchero is saying that she used to be “the sweet one”, Acqua Nobilis and Acqua Viva are both threatening to leave and Fiori D’Ambra says she’s “not going to wait forever”. I know my beauties, I’ll be back, but for now my new paramour is VANITAS! I’m obsessed with my new vanilla lover.
Sorry for the above, but after a few days wearing Vanitas, I can say that it is simply a beautiful parfum…

  20. :

Listen I know my skin eats perfume but how in the world are all of you getting 12,16…24 hours out of Profumum!?
Vanitas is a vanilla-forward gourmand that frankly smells like cake batter and cardboard. It’s an alcoholic vanilla-like a vanilla extract, not a vanilla bean. It’s weird but still good in it’s own way.
It does get more cake-batteresque as it dries down at the end of a sniff but still mostly is that cardboard-vanilla extract vibe. It does not smell expensive to me. Musc ravegeur is more expensive sure but it smells like it. This doesn’t.
I like it still, but you will have to test for yourself.
Scent: 6.5/10 it’s nice and I’d be glad to have it for layering.
Projection: 4/10 dismal and disappointing frankly. Becomes a skin scent by hour 2.
Sillage: 3-5/10 it comes and goes in the first few hours but never potent and never consistent.
Longevity: 5/10 five hours of any real useable scent. It’s my fouth time wearing it and it always drops off between the 4-5.5 hour mark.
Would I buy a full bottle? Eh…yes at a steep discount but not at full price.

Nice gourmand perfume with monster projection and longevity. Expensive but worth it…it receives non stop compliments whenever I wear it. The smell is like being in a candy store. Sweet sweet sweet..vanilla, sugar and custard…yummy..people will want to eat you hahaha

Instant thought is raspberry ripple ice cream and reminds of talco delicato.
But then in the dry down its like vanille du mexique. That initial phase is my favourite and if it stayed like that then I would give in to purchase.
Lasts for ages and sillage is close to the skin.

Tried this the other day – the sales girl told me it smelled like raspberry and licorice and I was intrigued! The first whiff is amazing, makes you very happy! It really does smell line raspberry and licorice but after a couple of hours it turns more smoky than anything else in me unfortunately. Will have to try it again, because the test strip and my jacket still smell amazing! 🙂

OK. This is really addictive. I would have really loved it 15 years ago, but I just feel a bit too old for this sweet, darling scent.
Having said that, Vanitas is one of the best quality cotton-candy sugarbombs I have ever tried. It is sweet without being insipid and soft without being boring.
I’m impressed even if it’s just not for me.

  27. :

Vanitas is a very beautiful, kind of addictive Cotton Candy scent that happens to be very expensive for something that smells like cotton candy.Even a co-worker made a comment that he smelled cotton candy in the room. I have toyed with buying a FB of this but after reading reviews comparing it to Pink Sugar I did an arm to arm test and yes they are very much alike on the opening but at entirely different price levels.Pink Sugar did become something not so great smelling (burnt plastic to me)but in the end this is just too expensive for something that could pass for a really cheap perfume. I received a sample today of Montale’s Vanilla Absolu and I believe I’ll be purchasing it as it is very beautiful, a bit less cotton candy, cheaper then Vanitas and it did not become that rancid mess that Pink Sugar became. Montale Paris wins again.

Yum!!! Sweet, soft, creamy vanilla. I smell like marshmallows and ice cream right now and I don’t even mind. This is not too sugary but so softly sweet, thank you Xrayer for the generous bundle of samples! i wouldn’t mind owning a FB of this – it is a LOT softer than any of my other oriental vanillas and just what my frazzled nerves needed to soothe them today…deeeelicious.

I was looking for a bubblegum smell and had to try this. Vanitas is a cotton candy smell. Delicious. 99% feminine. Yum Yum.
    Big projection and staying power.
    The funfair has started.

Woah – I am testing Vanitas and I’m INCREDIBLY shocked at how much I enjoy it. Profumum Roma is a house that generally supplies fragrances that are wretched on my skin – but this is a whole different case! Vanitas is *NOT* an atomic blast of traumatizing sweetness, like the rest of their scents – just a normal level of sweetness.
Linear progression from the opening to the drydown; Soft, sweet, deep, caramel-like vanilla pod (reminiscent of Tihota’s vanilla or Outremer’s Vanille), a hint of Orange Blossom (an unlikely combination that works really well together), and the most microscopic amount of myrrh to add that extra bit of something to ground the scent. The overall impression is mildly gourmand, without giving you a toothache, and reminiscent of circusgrounds, due to the sticky vanilla & hint (sometimes an avalanche) of cotton candy – and more of a “dry” vanilla as the fragrance fades.
I would say this is full-bottle worthy for any vanilla lover. Long-lasting, unique, and not boring in the slightest!

Mmm… sweet, yummy vanilla that can drive a man nuts!! I got Vanitas along with other Profumum samples and between this and Acqua e Zucchero, this one is the better of the two. I wear it at home, and it instantly lifts my mood up. For outdoors, I could wear Battito D’Ali but I don’t think I will ever go out wearing Vanitas. Like the name indicates, Vanitas is vanity in Latin and all I want to do when wearing this is to lie on the couch smelling myself lol! Talk about vanity.

Beautiful scent. Stays 3-4 days on clothes, 2 days on hair, 8-9 hours on the skin. update: has enormous sillage! one spray fills few rooms….

I love, love, love this fragrance!
I was torn between Vanitas, Battito d’Ali and Dulcis in Fundo from Profumum Roma (because that’s the kind of scents I’m drawn towards), and what made my choice very difficult is that they are pretty similar to eachother, but they all have that little “something” that also sets them apart from eachother. I loved them all, but since it’s very pricy I had to choose only one and I went for Dulcis in Fundo. I adore DiF, but I also know that when I have used up that bottle (20 ml.) I am going back for this one (or Battito d’Ali) next!
So simple, yet powerful. Amazing longevity and sillage and just a beautiful, beautiful scent! Sweet, lingering, well rounded.. almost smells like there’s cocoa in it too!
    YUM!

  35. :

Sweet, sweet and only sweet. It’s not a scent, it’s a bubblegum for children…

  36. :

The composition is the same as “Battito d’Ali”, but with sandalwood instead of cacao.
It’s also nauseating to wear. Shrieking, incessant sweetness for days.
Honestly, this brand is really lacking in ideas it seems. They keep rehashing the same sweet sugary compositions. Vanitas, Battito, Dulcis in Fundo, Aqua di Zucchero….they’re all so similar.
    Some variety please!

Sweet vanilla with a little myrrh and soft woody notes on a background.
It starts quite sweet, but sweetness wears off a lot as fragrance dries down. Really good quality creation, a contender. Must try for gourmand/vanilla lovers.

Not really sure what to say about this one. Was just ok. Hype kinda lost on me. Not sure what to really compare it to. I guess it is sweet, I guess maybe cotton candy as others said? But honestly I got a lot of the orange flower giving it some unexpected freshness. Much like I did acqua e zucchero this was much more fresh and clean smelling than I expected.
Sorta just like a sweet smelling hand lotion or something to me.
Performance wise it was good like everything ive tried from this house so no complaints there.
But smell it self, just ok. And id also like to say I dunno where this montale vanille absolu comparison is coming from. They dont even smell remotely similar to me. Although it does certainly resemble another frag that escapes me.
Also although not to much to wear as a man, it certainly is fairly feminine smelling.

  40. :

    5 out of 5

Vanitas is a gourmand delight and an olfactory antidepressant. The vanilla smells rich and decadent, with a citric sweetness from the orange blossom and some smokiness loaned by the myrrh. Vanitas would be the centre of attention not because of a unique personality but for being as delectable as a caloric-infested, caramelized sugar bundt cake and as sweet and charming as Snow White circa 1937 (especially the part where she sings Someday My Prince Will Come and the animals are dancing around her, every living creature as high as a kite). Sillage is soft but the longevity of this is ridiculously tenacious, no fear of it ever disappearing unless soap is applied with a strong arm. On the “interesting” scale, this lies at the polar opposite to Mona di Orio’s Vanille, with Lutens’ Un Bois Vanille in the middle of the scale and Tihota in Vanitas’ camp. Vanitas would satisfy cravings for sweets whereas Mona’s Vanille would enter a debate with you regarding the same.

I can see why this is such a hit with oriental-vanilla lovers!
It is a sweet, warm, rich, slightly floral vanilla with fruity nuances on my skin chemistry. It’s not 100% perfect match with my chemistry as it becomes a tiny bit dusty on me in the dry-down (which is common for me with many of the most popular oriental-vanillas). Longevity was good, i didn’t notice much sillage, but I was dabbing from a sample vial. I detected mostly vanilla, orange blossom, and myrrh, but not sandalwood.
My skin prefers Montale Vanille Absolue for its woodier base, but Vanitas is just gorgeous and should be tested by all vanilla lovers!!!

I have a little decant of this, and I tried it today. I’d heard so much good stuff about this fume, so I really wanted to tried it. I asked my fragrance crazy friend if he could sample this for me, and he said yes. It came by the mail today, so I sprayed ONE spray on my wrist, and the sillage is like a nuclear bomb. The smell filled the room! The first thing I thought about the smell was how similar it was to how Lush stores smell like, and of course, I absolutely love the smell of Lush. When I keep my arm about half a meter away from my face, I can smell cotton candy. Sugary vanilla. It’s really yummy, but I expected it to be a bit warmer than actually really sugary. Be really careful with the sprays, I’m serious, it can cause nausea by like 2 sprays, not kidding. It’s extremely pricey, but due to the extreme sillage and lasting power, you will end up having your bottle for a very long time!

This is my holy grail vanilla scent – and I wasn’t even looking for one! It’s become one of my top-tier favourite perfumes, and no other vanilla scent belongs to that category.
These 4 notes…. I smell each of them. This is a trend with Profumum Roma perfumes for me, that I can detect each note.
I purchased the body oil “olio di corpo” from ebay, one third full. It is the most luxurious body product I’ve ever owned.
The orange blossom is very prominent to me, and it mixes with the other notes to create a liquid red gummy bear aspect. The feeling I get from Vanitas is the feeling I would expect to have if I could truly get drunk off candy. And believe me I’ve tried throughout my life to get drunk off candy, time aplenty. It’s that good, intoxicating. It is vanilla cake soaked in Cointreau.
When I wear Vanitas, people are always hugging me! And… I’m hugging them! I don’t know what it is about this scent… so touchy-feely! One of the best things about the oil is that *it rubs off on people* who hug you! Then you can smell it on them! The gift that keeps on giving. More about the oil: There is *no way* the perfume can have more sillage. I am a candy cloud…. 14 hours later when the scent still hasn’t died down I can say it starts to make my head spin!
So be sure to stay away from hugging married men. I hugged one, someone I really like who I used to work with, before a show I was in. At intermission there was a woman in line beside me at the bar, staring with a certain amount of surprise and worry, possibly irritation. After the show the two of them walked past me – she was his wife, and he definitely smelled like Vanitas! And before I realized it I thought, “oh my god, he smells so sexy!” But I don’t know, maybe I just had a waft of my own scent, and maybe his wife just didn’t like my clothes or hair or something. I was dressed in a bit of a costume like an equestrian (minus the helmet) that night after all.
Do wear this to a birthday party! Do *not* wear this to work in an office.

I keep thinking I will grow out of this sweet tooth of mine. Alas….
This is a hard, compressed, powdery candy straight out of the Pez dispenser and I love it…

  47. :

    5 out of 5

A hefty does of cotton candy (more ethylmaltol than vanillin) in this. I was expecting something more nuanced and layered, not a smack in the face with a candy bar! I do not detect amber or orange flower. Considering the hefty price tag, you’re better off with Montale Vanille Absolu which (though not cheap) is better value than this or el cheapo Molinard Vanille – both smell very similar although perhaps not quite as potent. It also shares some similarity with Pink Sugar (another ethylmaltol fest) without the annoying hairspray, licorice notes.
Bottom line: if you want a sickly sweet, potent vanilla then this does the trick. But you can get your sugar fix far more cheaply elsewhere.

  48. :

    4 out of 5

for me this one reminds a lot flowerbomb by V&R just more watery! It’s not the only one from PFR to look strangely alike other well known main stream frags! Confetto : it’s just Hypnotic Poison but milder, Aqva di sale, remind a lot Armani’s acqua di Gio’, and Aqvadi zucchero it’s plainly pink Sugar Acquolina (this one much cheaper btw)…
anyway, this one isn’t bad, very sweet, feel lots of vanilla, maybe some orange blossom & benzoin, quite simple, linear, no great evolution.

For vanilla lovers only!A warm creamy deep blast of vanilla,so potent,I could not pick up any other note.
I find this a great mixer scent.I tone it down with a
strong orange, citrus based fragrance, this cuts the
vanilla over-load,which I could never imagine to be
possible. The result is delicious!Sillage is impressive,
extremely long lasting. Not your basic quiet vanilla!

Profumum Vanitas is a gorgeous “chilly” vanilla. If you are a vanilla fan, then this is a must try. Yes, it’s a sweet vanilla, but the myrrh gives it a cool and crisp aspect, which keeps it from becoming sickly sweet. The sillage is strong – one spray is more than enough. The lasting power is phenomenal and I only have to apply once in the morning and it’ll last all day.

It was a nice day. We went to the fair. I turned heads- wherever we went, smelling like a marshmallow.

  53. :

    3 out of 5

So far all the Profumum’s scents I have tried were excellent, sophisticated, strong, thick, intriguing. Vanitas seemed like a winning combination: vanilla and sandalwood, with myrrh and orange blossom. The first spray promised something almost boozy, again: thick, creamy, sweet and woody.
Unfortunately, 5 seconds later all was gone. I resprayed. And again, I could hardly feel anything. I pretty much used the whole sample, I sprayed it over my hair, my neck, my wrists. I left the home. And I felt nothing. Upon pressing my wrist to the skin I could barely smell the vanilla accord and some orange blossom. But the projection is non existing, but you really need to be very, very close to smell anything at all. I mean, very close. The scent lasts, but unless you have your nose glued to the place you sprayed it, you wont even notice you are wearing a perfume. The vanilla-orange blossom accords linger in the background, but Id like the scent to stand out a bit more!

I am testing this line looking for sweet gourmand and vanilla scents and this is the first one I have tried out of Profumum`s creations. I love the simple bottle designs of this niche house and I am hoping to extend my small fragrance collection with one of these beauties soon.
Vanitas is a lovely, creamy vanilla with a playful twist – it might be the myrrh here but it smells a bit bubblegum-ish on me! It`s fun!! Doesn`t evolve much on my skin, stays soft and gentle. Really nice scent, not too sweet and unique for sure.
Great longevity but stays close to skin, unfortunately sillage is not great on me. For this price I would have expected killer sillage so I dont`t think I would buy a bottle of Vanitas but I am not at all disappointed.
I am glad I was introduced to this house and now looking forward to testing some of their other offerings.

This is an incredibly sweet vanilla. I dont detect much sandalwood or myrrh, and whatever orange blossom is here only serves as an extra sweetening ingredient! Luckily vanilla is my favorite note and I love gourmand and sweet perfumes, but I suspect some will find this much too sugary and might probably say it’s comparable to something like Pink Sugar. I do feel a certain quality in this scent though and I prefer this over PS, which I also own. I will buy a FB of this because I am a perfume hoarder. But if I wasn’t Able to spend all my money on perfumes I’d probably be able to do without this one in my collection.

Glad it’s here now. This I must say, has turned out to be one of my favorite vanilla fragrances. I even like it more than Orchidee Vanille by Van Cleef and Arpels. Vanitas is a creamy vanilla scent without being sugary sweet. It’s very longlasting and that might be Profumum’s trademark with their fragrances. To me, the sandalwood in this is very light and you might smell a little chocolate note if more is applied.
