Description

Urban Lily reveals often ungrasped nuances of lily of the valley, which accentuates its intoxicating and fresh nuances in this edition while symbolizing showing welcome to feelings of happiness. The fragrance was created by distillation of flowers, root and leaves of lily of the valley, just like Epic Gardenia. The fragrance also encompasses sweetness of petals, strength of root aromas and intoxicating green notes of leaves. Urban Lily was launched in 2009.

I love lily-of-the-valley, and I know this is a botanical “impression”, but it isn’t working for me. It actually smells like urine on my skin, a little sharp, not green or even floral at all. This may be my least favorite of the line thus far.

For me, perhaps the most evocative of all florals is the muguet des bois: lily of the valley. I am always ready to try a new formulation that includes it, so I looked forward to SIP’s concept.
While it has a nice “take” on the classic scent – including notes that reminded me of a very sheer fougere, and a hint of something close to the poudre aroma of orris (the root formulation), I was not swept away by it, as I had hoped.
It just didn’t seem to me to capture the “sparkle” of muguet, and the scent seemed not to resolve itself into a statement. The concept was brilliant, but if I were at SIP, I’d be thinking of a way to tweak the molecules just a little to include some additional muguet blossom notes to the mix. It is an interesting scent, to be sure, but if you are a purist about your muguet, you might not take to it. It is most definitely worth trying a sample or two – as are all SIP scents. This is a company with some chutzpah and real talent. Their formulations always make me think about perfumery in new ways.
