Description

Lancome introduced Tresor Midnight Rose in 2011 as a youthful and modern interpretation of the popular fragrance Tresor from 1990. In 2015, it launched the new edition inspired by Arabic perfumery- Tresor Midnight Rose Elixir D’Orient.

The composition blends fresh floral notes with sensual and exotic ones. A modern, seductive scent is aimed at fans of rose and oriental woods. The combination of raspberry, black currant and pink pepper leads to the heart of rose, jasmine and peony. The base features warm accords of vanilla, patchouli, cedar and oud.

It is available as 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

I’m someone who can’t wear the original Midnight Rose, while pretty, it’s just too sweet without anything to counter it. It becomes super cloying on me. The added woody elements in Elixir d’Orient makes all the difference for me. The oud style which may give it a “stinky” effect for some is exactly what makes the perfume for me. I have 4 samples of the original Midnight Rose and didn’t even finish the first one, while I bought a back up bottle of this one. It all depends on your personal preferences but if you found Midnight Rose to just be too sickeningly sweet, give this one a try because while still very sweet, the other notes counter it and make it more wearable for me personally. As a matter of fact I find it drop dead gorgeous! In the same way Flowerbomb is just “okay” to me and Flowerbomb Rose Explosion is breathtaking. I love a middle eastern twist. I just prefer my sweet stuff with a heavier base to balance it out. Beautiful fragrance as is the bottle. Glad I have two!!

I have the original Tresor Midnight Rose, which is one of my favourite perfumes, and I came across this ‘amped up’ version in a department store the other day so, of course, felt compelled to test it.
It’s really nothing special, and certainly not a patch on the original Tresor Midnight Rose. All of these heavier perfume flankers just seem to have a whole lot of patchouli thrown in, apparently in an effort to make them seem more sensual, sexy and ‘daring’ to wear at night. However, to my nose they all fail on all counts – too much patchouli in a perfume makes it REEK, stink to high heaven and totally turns my stomach – and I’m pretty sure it has the same effect on many people, men included. I’ve yet to hear a man say that a patchouli laden perfume smells great! Most of the perfumes I’ve been complimented on by men have (thank god!) been patchouli-less.
Which reminds me – before I got my bottle of Tresor Midnight Rose I would spritz myself with it whenever I was passing through a perfume section of a department store (or when I specifically made a pit stop to spray myself with it because I loved it so much!). One day after I’d done that I was in a market place buying something and one of the vendors (a very nice man) asked me what the perfume was that I was wearing and he said it was gorgeous! TMR is definitely one of those perfumes that does turn heads but, in my experience, there are relatively few that do actually do that (Paris perfume was always guarantee to garner lots of compliments whenever I wore that years ago, when I had a bottle in my teens, and literally men would stop me on the street to ask me what perfume I was wearing!).
This perfume, though, is a big FAIL in my opinion. I’d recommend strongly sticking to the original TMR!

It’s stronger than the original midnight rose but I think it’s not better. I refer the original just love this bottle, so gold and luxury.

I finally got 10 ml from this wonderful and special perfume. I can’t put it in words how much I love this. It’s so deep and rich, excellent for a cold winter night. I wear it on special occasions (in theatre, in a restaurant..etc.)
I can smell blackcurrant at first and then rose and oud. It’s a pity that it’s not available in my country, so it’s a bit difficult to get.

Well, I’ve tried this one and has nothing special at all. So sad but the original midnight rose is way more special :/ 🙂

    Hello,
I have always used Tresor (original). It has been my only one and I have always loved it. I would like to try this perfume however but I can’t find it, even a tester. Would anyone help me please? I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

The only place you could buy this was Selfridges but they’ve sold out – I was there yesterday and they didn’t even have a tester of it. It’s out of stock online as well.

AHHHHMAZZZINGGGGG! I sprayed this in the store, not thinking too much about it, and at first sniff I thought, “yep, smells like midnight rose and la vie est belle had a baby”. Then I went about my shopping, trying on other scents and went to the grocery store. In the milk section, towards the end of the store, I started to get the most delectable, incredibly rich, dark dry rose and wood and the slightest hint of oud that is drenched in dense blackberry syrup. I sniffed all the spots I had sprayed and marveled that it was this one emanating this heavenly aroma off my skin. The next day I went back to the shop and sprayed myself liberally with only this. It is truly beautiful!!! Incredibly opulent, plush and sexy! And the scent lasted well into the evening on my skin and clothes. This is an extremely complex, balanced scent that rivals the best arabic style perfumes – and I live in the Middle East. Lancome has created a winner with this one!

Tested this today. It’s very similar to Midnight Rose (if I’m perfectly honest I couldn’t really notice any difference when I initially applied it). It’s very long-lasting and is clearly made from high-quality ingredients. If you like Midnight Rose, you’re bound to like this one. Black currant and raspberry are very prominent. The oud is soft and so subtle that it’s barely detectable, although it becomes more pronounced in the dry down. The oud adds a little extra richness and depth to the original fragrance.
EDIT: The next morning I can still smell this on my skin and the paper strip I sprayed it on smells divine! When I run out of my bottle of Midnight Rose I’ll definitely buy the Elxir D’Orient version instead.

Oh come on, we had the strong scent already with the original. I was really hoping the would consider doing a L’eau version of Midnight Rose that was more wearable for spring and summer as the original can be sticky sweet in warmer temps.

Very pretty scent. Also similar to the original midnight rose. I would go as far to say almost identical with an added soft oud note slightly laying on top throughout. Think midnight rose with a soft plastic smell on top. Sweet and lovely, if you like the original which in my opinion already smells a bit oudy you will like this. Question if, if you already own it would you need this? This is my first impression and will test again when I’m in Selfridges. I wod say it’s definitely worth a try!
