Description

Like champagne, the term “cognac” is protected by the WTO since the Doha round (2001).
Only producers based (and homologated) in the French region of Cognac are allowed to use it. The beverage follows other rules, including the use of a specific variety of grapes, more commonly Ugni Blanc Saint Emilion. Like wine and whiskey, the brandy is aged for at least two years in oak barrels and then distilled twice, sold with an average alcohol concentration of 40%.
Tobacognac captures the synergy between the cognac and tobacco aromas, both fruity and woody, warm and sweetish, dense and intoxicating. Floral and oriental notes contribute to a sophisticated and alluring effect.

Tobacognac by Daniel Barros is a Aromatic Spicy fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Tobacognac was launched in 2016. The nose behind this fragrance is Daniel Barros. Top notes are bergamot, cardamom, dried fruits and cognac; middle notes are tobacco, hay, rose, carnation and heliotrope; base notes are sandalwood, oak, tonka bean and vanilla.

Having had the opportunity to try Tobacognac for a few weeks now, I can say with a great degree of comfort and confidence that this has quickly climbed the ladder to becoming one of my most favorite tobacco fragrances ever! Daniel is all too well read up on everything perfume related, and his knowledge and experience is evident through his creations. In a world where transparency is often compromised when it comes to note breakdowns, this fragrance in particular is as genuine as they come. The tobacco and boozy nuances are noticeable from the very start. You get a tobacco fermenting in the richest spices all the while being complemented by a woodsy base supporting the sophisticated weight of the opening. As the fragrance progresses, the floral components add a sensual yet sensitive nuance to the composition while never compromising it’s sophisticated and bold integrity. This fragrance is for the tobacco lover, the booze lover, and the lover of all things daring and different. Tobacognac is a gem and staple for the fall and winter! Highly recommended! Thank you, Daniel, for a wonderful creation!

Cognac is considered one of the noblest existing drinks and its identity is protected by the WTO, so are considered Cognac only products that meet the requirements, such as a specific list of grapes that can be used, how the distillation should be made, the aging process in oak barrels. Interestingly, this is one of the few drinks of which is still possible to extract an essential oil during the production process, the Green Cognac. Along with a high quality tobacco absolute and other fine materials Tobacognac joins the nobility of the universes of Cognac and Tobacco in a composition only.
The aroma of cognac is more present in the output and you notice it more clearly close to skin as the projection of the aroma mingles easily with the drier aroma of tobacco. When observed closely, however, you feel the alcoholic aroma, fruity, with a light green buttery smell (this aspect mainly reminds me the whiskey smell in the glass).
Tobacco is a big star in the composition from the beginning to the end. It is interesting its aroma, multifaceted in its impressions. It is something that resembles the smell of spices, honey and roll smoke simultaneously. At the base it is more evident the more discreet honeyed aspects that blend with the tobacco as well as the nuances of fermented frui and wood from the oak wood with other woods forming the basis for the composition.
From the current perfumery trends certainly Tobacognac will refer and appeal more to the male audience, since its aroma is smoky, dry, spicy, with minimal sweetness to round off the edges. But it can certainly attract the female audience who likes drier, complex and different aromas.

So I got a bit of a polarizing review for this one. Its rare but every now and then you get a fragrance where it performs noticeably different on skin than it does on paper. And this is one of them for me.
So when I first read the notes I was a little worried I saw people voting oak, and hay as the main notes to most. Which worried me as im not a big fan of heavy oak fragrances as it just smells to dry and pencil shavingish to me a lot of times..
Well on paper this sorta goes from different extremes. It starts off like the name might lead you to believe, very vibeish, very manly, tobacco and cognac a power sorta smelling fragrance.
But as it dries down, not only was this not dry. This is EXTREMELY syrupy, thick and fruity. Like shockingly so. As a matter of fact I even got a sorta ambre narguile or or du serail kinda vibe. Now I know a lot of people in fragcom love the former quite a bit, but its meh~ to me.
Its also very powerful on paper as well.
On (my)skin however, this kinda was a mix for me, I can smell the more dry aspects like the hay, its not as powerful, its more put together and the contrasts were not as extreme, now that might not be as interesting to some people, but for me, it makes it more snuggly and cozy. So not having a as extreme syurpy fruity factor was good for me.
So ya strange review I guess because well I got at least a remarkable contrast/difference on skin than paper so take this for what you will. Guess ill have to test it more to see its performance in other types of weather perhaps as well.
