I bought this fragrance having smelled it once in the store and I can say I hated it. It was too bold, messy and way too loud & offensive.
I never really gave it a chance.
The opening is just too intrusive. I didn’t realize the dry down is where the magic happens.
So, based on reviews and praise this thing got, I found a deal, and couldn’t pass it up. I figured I would give it another shot.
I haven’t smelled it in about a week, so this review is based on my wearing of it (a week ago).
My first full wearing – I put 3 sprays on around 6:10am….One on each side of my chest, and one on the back of my neck. My whole way to work, I kept getting insanely massive whiffs. I thought I put too much on. It was almost overbearing.
These whiffs were straight up tobacco, cigars and whiskey-soaked wood. The tobacco was an authentic tobacco pipe smell mixed with the burnt ashes of a juicy cigar and some stout, hard whiskey.
This stuff doesn’t play around. This is serious. As I got to work, the scent was still unbelievably strong (about an hour later). As time went on, I kept getting whiffs, and my clothes were incredibly strong.
As the dry down ensued, the whiskey settled down as well as the freshly burned cigar ashes. I was left with a fresh, juicy yet dry tobacco…The oud very well hidden.
8 hours later I still faintly caught whiffs and thats when I knew this stuff is potent.
    OVERALL:
I hate oud fragrances, but this stuff hides it very well. So well, in fact, the oud is blended in here just for the purpose of leaving this fragrance with depth. I honestly dont detect it a lot. In my opinion, no one does tobacco like Tom Ford, and this is proof.
Again, in my opinion, this is borderline mature….But it seems to work just fine for me in the super cold. It is absolutely an “every-now-and-then” fragrance. (I am 26)

Today it was the first time I smelled Tobacco Oud, unfortunately I haven’t smelled amber absolute.
The opening is a little sweet, very alluring. Then the main players show up – you can clearly smell divine tobacco and oud combination. After some more time it smells ashy.
I am probably the first one in the world to find this has similar vibe to Chanel Egoiste. But this smells more modern, way more wearable and unisex.
Before trying this perfume I read a lot of reviews that this is for some elderly man, a complete businessman, suit and tie. I have to disagree, although this perfume does make a statement, I find it unisex. Its just narrow point of view, a stereotype when someone smells bold perfume and immediately associates it with all the serious things.

Quite simply one of the nicest fragrances I have ever owned. One small spray lasts all day, and sillage is just about on the side of subtle enough to not overpower those around you. I am constantly receiving compliments from both women and other men, many of which ask for the name of the scent.
I’m far from a connoisseur, but straight to the nose is a whirlwind of rolling tobacco, spice, and hints of whisky/brandy (I don’t drink so it’s a mix for me).
I’m in my thirties, and wouldn’t have dreamt of wearing such a daring scent during my teens or twenties. I don’t even think I would have liked this scent at all at either point. However, I am in love with it now, and can’t wait for opportunities to wear it.

This is got to be one of the best perfumes around. I love everything about this scent. That sweet tobacco opening to the lovely oud. This is definitely a daring scent, but well worth it. Very masculine, amazing longivitiy and sillage. Love this juice.

This one is the definition of a “Grower”, when I first sprayed this it felt like a punch in the face, it was so intense and strong for my nose I regretted spraying it on, however the drydown was one of the most alluring and addictive scents to meet my nose. I have over the past couple of months surprisingly grown to enjoy the introduction but what is even more surprising, my girlfriend who HATES oud fragrances, absolutely loves this scent and does not want to stop smelling me when I wear it, though her mum hates it haha. Really polarising scent.

This is powerful stuff, a knock out, potent. On my skin, a lot of tobacco, honey sweet and incense. Like someone has smoked an exotic cigar…
I don’t see honey on its list but vanilla, there’s no vanilla for me…
    Lasts a long, long time.
I don’t own this, observation only from a tester, so if I have worn it few more times, I may get a better grasp of the scent.
On the whole, I really like it. It’s not something I can wear often and definitely not to the office (I’m a girl).
I would love to smell this on a man in fall/winter.
I would like to own a bottle one day and I think for me, a bottle would last for years…… its so potent and unique that I would wear it rarely. It’s addictive to me.
    It’s indeed a Rawhide Clint Eastwood scent…

A wonderful take on Tobacco. Lasting power is quite insane. One of the best of TF lines for sure.

As I enter a cloud Tobacco Oud, a hazy nostalgia of a life I never lived comes over me.
A balcony overlooking a vibrant metropolis in the pouring rain, circa the late ’80s or early ’90s. Neon signs blurred by the steam rising from the streets below. A glass of whiskey, maybe a cigar. A silent TV playing the news. Solitude.
Thoughts of the past with one eye on the future.

Tom Ford Fragrances are a style statement apart from just being fragrances. Tobacco Oud is yet another masterpiece from the TF Private blend line.
Opening starts off with a Oud Note that is wild (not skanky, not medicinal and not offensive) mixed with a tobacco vibe (slightly wet tobacco) and a little bit of whiskey to blend it. You can picture it as a room with wood panels in which cigar has been previously smoked and you can sense a pint of whiskey been drunk.
The middle notes for me are like the same room, but with a vanilla and sandalwood creamy and sweet touch to it.
The dry down seems to me the same with just some changes in being sweeter (too little) and woodier.
Overall it does not change its smell so much and pretty much stays same or you can say it calms a bit.
    Scent: 8
    Performance: 8.5
Compliments: 6.5 (Some may not like it being a bit dark)
Versatility: 5 (Winter and colder weathers)
Dress Code: Formal, Business, Sometimes Business Casual (in winter). Best for wearing with Suit and Ties, Tuxedos etc.
    For Ages: 25+
Ideal Person for this perfume IMO: Classy Business Man, 30-50 years old or above, those who love cigars, whiskey suits.
Celebrities that fit for this fragrance: Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman, Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, ClintEastwood, Leo Di Caprio

This fragrance is an ever lasting cascade of dark, seductive, heavy and balsamic notes that offer an uber-masculine take on tobacco. There’s no doubt about it, this is a man’s fragrance.
What I get off the jump is a fistful of aromatic spices that open things up to give it a profile similar to that of African Leather by Memo.
What comes next is a trifecta of Oud, Tobacco and a dark rum accord.
It amazes me that the perfumer (Olivier G) was able to cram these bold notes all together in one space, yet have them able to be picked out fairly easy amongst one another.
Each note in this fragrance has it’s own presence and the result is a thick, burley and very daring, and I love it.

  13. :

Tobacco Oud is like a dark explosion of aromatic, honey-sweet propolis, creamy coumarin, burnt caramel, spicy amber, single malt whiskey, raw tobacco & tame, leather-like agarwood. Not for everyone /like many TF masterpieces/, extraordinary & incredibly sexy. You must be strong enough to wear this fragrance – this scent tends to be really overwhelming.

My conundrum – TF Tobacco Oud Vs Oud Wood
Agree with one of the reviewers in saying that this one smells more like an ash tray or a strong distinctive powdery Arabic scent. Can’t see this seducing young male or female and more suited for an older gentleman. Unfortunately regretting my $280 AUD blind buy on this one and don’t think even my father would want to wear this.
Fortunately the dry down is less off-putting and mellows out with sweetness. Hoping it will grow on me. Please try this one before buying people.
TF Oud Wood definitely the winner in my humble opinion and can’t wait for it to arrive!

I bought a sample for my partner, who, bewildered, lets me experiment with spraying him with various fragrances.
    Interesting.
We are not connoiseurs so I can’t give any more of a detailed analysis than what’s gone before, but here are my thoughts:
I definitely got the tobacco leaf, very powerfully, and it seemed to suit him because he has such a love affair with tobacco. The very strong Arabian smell that developed afterwards reminded me of being a child in the middle east and the association with that culture was so strong that after the smell settled in, it didn’t seem right on his skin any more. He is a tall, fair haired man with Nordic blood, and this certainly carries a distinctly different orientation. However, it might work if we were holidaying in a different place. It’s not my favourite on him, that’s for sure.

real tobacco leaf smell+ bit dirty oud + high quality amber
its very close to a discontinued legend – Amber absolute by TF
Tobacco Oud lasts 2-3 days(Seriously) or more and will definitely get you
    noticed
there is no grey shade when it comes to compliments
if there are 100 people in a room
chances are that you get 50 +ve and 50 -ve compliments
its a love or hate fragrance.
But is very unique and very upscale fragrance, nobody will say that you
    smell generic(like Dior savage).
No disrespect to Sauvage, which is an absolute masterpiece

Tobacco Oud smells like an exclusive High Class Gentlemen’s Lounge.
It smells of Sour Whiskey. Pungent, Sweet, fruity, moist Tobacco, & Aged Books, in a library where its wood has been treated with a mild Cinnamon & Cedar wood Polish.
Its a very polarizing fragrance. Yet so very beautiful once one finds harmony in its notes.

This is a “Silk Route 2.0” perfume that is an embodiment of modern trade and globalization.
Upon first application l get a fruity nuance, like (maraschino) black Cherry. Because of that fruitiness, l think the booze in this is Brandy like or a dessert wine like wine. Squint a little and there might be a resemblance to cough syrup!
I find this perfume rather linear and sweet on me. What makes this perfume so sweet is a generous helping of quality sandalwood (China), in concert with vanilla backed by the dark, heaviness of agar wood, popular in Japan and the Middle East and tempered with other dry woods. The tobacco is prominent in a dry, earthy and smoky manner with just a touch of incense. The concoction is lightly spiced. Overall the perfume is warm, mysterious, transparent (ISO E Super) and not too heavy or cloying on the skin than say, Oriental perfumes like Samsara or Cinnabar.
TF Tobacco Vanille is really similar except heavier and sweeter still with a “milky” powdery texture. If l had all the money in the world Tobacco Vanille would be a winter staple whereas Tobacco Oud is reserved for the warmer
    months.
Tobacco Oud is rich enough in tone to work for formal occasions and in the evening. It has a nonchalant elegance and rugged austerity to it that l could see it being worn to work. I guarantee it will set you apart from colleagues wearing “clean” laundry musks and/or “fresh” (air freshener, blech) scents. I also feel like a worldly person wearing this. It also helps that l like sandalwood incense since l grew up with it.

Fell in love with this as soon as I sprayed it. It instantly took me back to the days when I was on vacation in Dubai, wandering along the streets of the traditional market. I guess it’s the oud and the spicy notes that resemble the scent of the traditional middle eastern market. Even my mom told me it smells exactly like what she smelled during the vacation. I definitely love the scent, but I’m not sure if I would want to smell like this myself, especially when the place I’m living is where these kind of oriental fragrances are very unpopular. If I spray this on myself and go outside, probably everyone in the street would turn their heads around and wonder where I have been at.

Interesting to read the varied reviews. To me, this is all about the tobacco note, the OUD, the incense, and nothing else. I wish I picked up the whisky note.
This reminds me of a couple memories from the 70’s, so this takes me back in time. One memory is visiting one of the older neighbor’s house, his house always smelled of cigars/cigarettes and his huge old-time wooden stereo ‘system’..oh, how the wood emanating from that stereo system was pungent!! And the tobacco smell in that house..lol… But then this also has a strong incense smell for me, taking me back to Easter time as a child, when the incense was strongly prevalent in the church (that incense was almost suffocating to my nose back then). Oddly enough, even though this fragrance is not my thing, I do find it somewhat comforting. Not something I will wear (I am a chick but often wear unisex and men’s frag’s), and this also is not really something I want my man to wear, but, it is a nice, comforting type of scent. And while incense can be comforting to me (if not too heavy), it is a little too pungent here for me. I wish I picked up the boozy note or some of the other notes. But as it is, while a nice comforting throw-back scent(s) for me, this one is a little too much incense for me. As this dries down further, the incense comes out all the more for me.
I might revisit this in the colder months. Today it is a rainy not warm day, a slight chill in the air. Thought today would be as good a day as any to test. But maybe even colder weather will work some magic with this one. Not a bad fragrance at all, just not ‘for me’. Longevity is decent, a good solid 8+hours, and sillage is moderate to heavy, depending how many spritzes is used. A cool scent, just not a personal preference of mine.

I was expecting that cigarette smell that I love so much but it’s not like that, it’s something medicinal. This is not a comforting fragrance, it is only for situational business use. those who have this fragrance would agree with me. this is the best advice if you are going to buy blindly

    Parfum unique.

I love this. I got a sample and went out forgot what I was wearing and girls I didn’t even give eye contact too went out of their way to compliment me. A girl was paying at the dr office and stopped mid credit card swipe to walk over to compliment me. I had 0 luck with the tf tobacco vanilla although it smelled just as good but something about getting unsolicited compliments makes a scent smell better the next time I wear it.
I love the scent too it’s amazing it’s like a church on a cold rainy day with tobacco and other deep notes behind it blended to perfection. I had a sample of the intense version as well. It dries down more beautiful scent but I must say even tho it’s a lil better for the money I’m going to buy this version. The new one is less linear but I like this opening so much I want it to be as linear as possible.

This is a copper-hued, skanky, love fest of oud, whiskey, and tobacco. It lasts all day. Starting out dissonant and rumbling with a clamor of astringent, sour, medicinal oud and whiskey. But then harmonizes slowly into a resonant spicy chord. I get cinnamon emerging in the dry down as the tobacco, sandalwood, patchouli, incense, and vanilla push past the oud and whiskey to predominance.
It’s very romantic. Mysterious. Manly. And sexy. But in a way that has some intellect and verve. It’s not for the timid or the banal among us. You’re not going to wow a bunch of juvenile twits on spring break in Panama city. But I suppose if that was what you’re looking for you wouldn’t likely find this connoisseur’s delight. Or be reading about it.
It’s an all time fave for me.
My lady just bought me another bottle after I’d ran out. What a gift! Just as good as I remembered it. No reformulated issues that I can tell.

I was expecting a pipe-tobacco type sweet scent. When I was a kid, I remember smelling sweet pipe tobacco whenever we went to the post office. Yes, this was back in the day when the postmaster was allowed to smoke his pipe in a federal building!)
This smelled more like an ashtray just before it’s emptied when the bar is ready to close. I kept waiting for the drydown, but I got nothing except that acrid smell. Ugh!

Really intense oud intro, some sandalwood, spice and freshly bought pouch tobacco (maybe a whisky marinated one).
This intro only lasts 20-30 mins on myself and wife, we both loved the intro.
The drydown is beautiful, softens into something really special. The great fresh sweet soft pouch tobacco is there, soft woody notes of sandalwood and cedar, some very background smokiness, oud is completely gone after 40 mins unfortunately, but by God this is a lovely scent.
Longevity is 4-6 hours, but sillage is only moderate for 2 hours then only 30cm max which is a big disappointment.
One thing I noted is that the dry down has similarities with Raghba Wood Intense which I love.
Great fragrance, I would definitely buy again 😉

What an experience- it starts almost Shoking with almost pungent oud – then it dries down and becomes one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever smelt. Its been over 12 hours since I applied and I can still smell it (and my nose is beggin for more)
I don’t care what anyone might think/smell to me it’s just an heavenly experience – Experience indeed this scent takes one on a meditative journey a true masterpiece.

It’s quite sweet, with a hint of fruit, like a dessert wine (ice wine) with a Woody, spicey pungency with a touch of smokiness about it, like incense.
Wears like a linear, amber perfume. The heavy sweetness is a bit much, quite cloying and kind of exotic and dark. I guess ths is what a Middle Eastern inspired perfume should smell like?
I experimented with layering my Chanel No. 18 on top. As l thought they smell fabulous together with the shared fruity, Woody, spicy booze aspects. No 18 tempers the sweetness and lasts longer with this eau.

Oh Tom Ford…so, quite the adventure with this fragrance today. I went from buying this, to returning it while I was in the mall still. The opening of this one is quite harsh, almost putrid. You get that blast of oud and it is heavy. Bring in the tobacco. It’s raw, it’s wet, and in my opinion one of the purest tobacco notes you’ll see in a fragrance compared to the real thing. Masculine and gentlemanly are the only words I can describe this offering from Tom Ford.
So, your probably wondering why I decided to return this one. Some might be thinking that I made a big mistake in doing so, some might agree with my choice, and I will tell you why.
For the most part, this fragrance, is quite linear. It evolves in the beginning, but after that, it stays on one track. After the opening, I get tobacco, with oud playing in the background. I get the spices, and I also get a honey sweetness. The fragrance is wonderful, but I got tired of it, and I hate to say it, because I followed this scent for months, read and re-read reviews to justify my choice to own this one. But once I had it, I held the box in my hand, and I sniffed my wrist where I applied the fragrance hours ago, and I felt like it was not worth it. Price point aside, I just felt that perhaps this scent would only be worn in colder months, which here in Canada, is for a short amount of time. So, now I am about $300 heavier in my pocket book (I pay retail for fragrances) and that is that. I was also on the fence about tobacco vanille, which is another great scent. Longevity and sillage is great with Tobacco Oud. I even own a small decant of Tobacco Oud Intense,
But please, take my review as a grain of salt when comparing to your decision to buy this one. It isn’t for everyone, and you definitely cannot blind buy this one. As I stated, a fantastic fragrance, that unfortunately fell short to me. I feel ashamed to write a negative review about this one. Maybe my mind will change later down the road.

    This is serious stuff.
Boozy amd woody scents surrounded heavily by ashy tobacco accord (cigarette more than cigar smoke) with a light touch of smooth oud.

Someone help me out here. I am on the verge of buying yet another fragrance to add to my collection. I am deciding against either this, or perhaps Tom Ford’s Noir Anthracite. I have smelt both, but I cannot decide!
I love the masculine touches each scent has. I love the smokey, dry, cold earthiness appeal that anthracite has. But I also love the (again) smokey, dark, and woody vibe that tobacco oud brings. Sure I could own both (but I don’t see the point), but both fragrances are different scents entirely. To me they both share a strong dark touch which I love! Price is not a factor here. I am looking for mostly longevity. I am aware both scents are targeted for fall and winter seasons alike. Maybe even formal for tobacco oud, but that’s about it. I also own Noir De Noir and Black Orchid EDP if that helps anyone decide which fragrance I should go for. I also own a small 10ml decant split of tobacco oud intense. I really appreciate any and all feedback! Thank you!

This fragrance reminds me of my past, partying and playing live music; real smoke and spilled whiskey aroma. It’s setting off mixed feelings for me because I don’t live that life anymore but that’s what fragrances are about, reliving memories through scents. All-in-all I’ve come to terms with Tobacco Oud and I LOVE it. With the bad memories I get even more fond memories of my past life. Performance is exceptional, damn near 24 hours of longevity and near beastmode sillage and projection. Like the other reviewers have suggested sample before blind buying this gem!

    REGAL. RICH. ADDICTIVE.
PRIVATE BLEND TOBACCO OUD explores a secret history of addictive Arabic passions – Crafting fragrances from precious OUD WOOD RESIN and SMOKING AROMATIC TOBACCO. It intertwines mesmerizing OUD with an idealized ARABIC TOBACCO accord inspired by “DOKHA” a blend of herbs, flowers, and spiced-laden tobacco.
Along with the latter and Oud Fleur, Tobacco Oud is part of the brand-new “Oud Collection”. And in case you were wondering, any resemblance with Tobacco Vanille – a firm favorite in the Private Blends – is most emphatically not coincidental, since Tobacco Oud was composed by the very same perfumer, Olivier Gillotin.
If you’ve been hankering for a darker, sultrier, woodier version of Tobacco Vanille, or like to tame your oud with a touch of sweetness, a whiff of this might turn your head: it’s one of Mr. Ford’s most addictive offerings to date.

I actually walked into a store. Tried this on, made the decision not to buy this and left. I have no right to have an opinion on anything.
Eventually, I saw the light. I noticed about an hour after leaving the store, I couldn’t stop smelling the spot on my arm where I had sprayed it. The cooler outside air really helped. I went back today to correct my mistake. I’m now sitting here with these warm, honey-kissed, rich tobacco-y notes wafting up around me. I want to smell like this forever.

Very different take on tobacco than tobacco vanille. Not just the fact that TV is vanilla-based, whereas this is oud-based, but that the tobacco note, itself, is very different. TV is a very dry, tobacco-leaf type of smell, whereas this a much richer, full-bodied and more authentic tobacco smell, like real tobacco absolute smell. I even get this subtle cocoa note in it as well.

    Walking the line…
So, with Tobacco Oud by Tom Ford, I feel this fragrance really treads a line here. This is a little more than tobacco and oud, although they each present themselves in different ways. I detect a hay-like quality to the dry tobacco here which mixes with an ambery, yet medicinal oud to make something quite heady and intoxicating. This one can be heavy. I have read that the inspiration for this came from “dokha” (p.s. the word in Arabic, دوخة, literally means “dizzyness”). In other words, a very strong blend of tobacco and herbs designed to give the smoker a hit-like buzz when they inhale. In this fashion, the fragrance succeeds. It’s like herbal tobacco smoke mixed with oud smoke. It’s a smokey fragrance!
Again, it’s up to you whether it’s something you want to smell like. It is wearable of course, I would just exercise caution here and I do believe that a little would go a long way. Very intoxicating in a burnt wood and sweet tobacco kind of way. It’s an interesting and intriguing one to say the least.

Got it as a sample. Very strong and heavy. Can be smelled from across the room as soon as you remove the cap. I personally don’t care for this stuff, it reminds me of a really old Catholic church. Which is a fine smell when your in the church, but I dont want to smell like that. Definitely an older man smell. And by older man I mean 80-120… Yeah, that old.

This is a really dark, sexy scent. As a woman, I picked up a sample to use for layering with florals (try with Narciso Rodriguez Fleur Musc for a romantic twist on the typical rose/oud). I *totally* think a woman can wear this alone without raising any eyebrows, but you better be going for seriously sultry. I would love to smell this on a man. On a man, this would smell dark, romantic, and self-assured.

Being my top 3 favorites from the TF line, this gem smells absolutely NOTHING like chopard Oud malaki..which I use to own. I really don’t even see how one thinks they are remotely close. OM smells like a cheap Oud fragrance, TF is a sweet perfection much higher quality. It’s stuff like this that reminds me that my reviews of HONESTY are so important

I liked tobacco oud more than tobacco vanille , this perfume is made for middle age men who have serious business and it is not for boys. If you wear black suits and you are a business man , this should be your scent. This perfume is totally masculine , not for women. I also use noir de noir,London, Black Orchid .But I use this perfume especially when I have serious company meetings. Do not use this perfume with casual wearings.

I really like this odd stuff ! But as I found in comments some people says the sharpness of ashtray smell is overbearing for them. You can make Tobacco Oud smoother and more pleasant by just one spray of Tuscan Leather over it!

I’d wear this to the same occasions I’d wear Amouage Jubilation XXV or Jovoy Private Label. Such a black tie or white tie scent. Don’t buy a full bottle unless you’re constantly attending black tie or white tie events

Interesting and unique fragrance. Heavy sandalwood with a bit of spice on application, ages to sandalwood and pipe tobacco with some sweetness after a bit. I don’t get much patchouli, bourbon, nor the smoke that so many are objecting to. There are definitely other elements at play that make this a grown-up and complicated scent. Good longevity and decent sillage (I would like more) but overall I’m very pleased with this.

I said to myself I’m gonna be an adventurous woman and got decants of this and a bunch of other Tom Ford’s private line! Unfortunately, this is by far my first dislike.
The opening smells like burning cigarettes mixed with agarwood if you stand in the middle of their smokes! a few seconds later it becomes a very OLD smell. I know a lot of people use this adjective constantly to say they don’t like a fragrance but I have never described any smell as an old one before this. The opening of this is how I imagine an old smoking man’s shirt smells like after he has worn it for 24 hours and sweated and smoked and drank in it over and over again. I just wanna put it in the washing machine!
The sillage is a little less than moderate and certainly not beastly like tobacco vanille. As it develops, that sharp note of smoking man’s sweat doesn’t leave especially if you smell it up close; but it gets softer and less sweaty after an hour and the notes of black pepper and patchouli get more prominent. This dry down especially if I’m smelling it from a distance is rather nice and ok but for close encounters, I’d say stay away from it. ofcourse that’s just my taste and I’m sure a lof of woman would love to bury their nose in it!
