it starts out as fresh citrus, like an orange, but as it dries down it has this weird undernote that i really don’t care for. maybe the mahogany.. massioa? it actually smelled like patchouli to me altho patchouli isn’t listed as one of the notes. whatever it is, it really didn’t blend all that great with the citrus notes to my nose. it also really didn’t last all that long on me, but i can’t really say i’m sad about that. i wouldn’t want to smell like this fragrance for hours. i have a large decant of this and will use it up, but its definitely not a favorite of mine and i wouldn’t rebuy it.

I must say here, that I am VERY impressed with “The Spray Tan Incident”, and find it to be a rather quirky and very long lasting citrus scent. This is the second perfume reviewed in a series of five fragrances I bought from Smell Bent, and I cannot wait to order again and try some more. Not only are these scents “fun” and well-made, but they are about as unique as they come!!
This little darling opens with a very bright (though not all that bitter) bergamot and clementine citrus accord. The tartness of the clementines is much more apparent than bergamot is. Aldehydes add some “oomph!” to this and when the top notes fade, as top notes do, the lovely “orangish” feeling persists and a bright GREEN appears. I am at a loss to say just what this “greenness” is, it is NOT galbanum…maybe petit grain? Whatever it is, it is lovely! The woods listed here (massoia and mahogany) combine to create something aromatic, yet warm and soft. Massoia wood is a subtropical wood and a member of the laurel family (an evergreen) bearing both leaves and fruits, and a subtle aura; while mahogany has a deeper and more smooth hardwood scent. Here, these are blended seemlessly with vetiver. It has the more tropical grassy feeling of vetiver itself, along with the subtle tones of these woods. It is really a very BRIGHT long-lasting, tart and sweet citrus scent with a very intense green feel and soft drydown, that (somehow) manages to stay citric and fresh!! Kudos to you, Mr. Leonesio…
Sillage: quite good
Longevity: excellent
Overall: 4.25/5
I am a Big fan of citrus scents, in general, and often sigh when they fade. No sighs here, though. I have to laugh (as I almost always do) in a good way at this offering from Smell Bent. I am reminded of the scene in “Bride Wars” where Kate Hudson SWITCHES the spray tan from Tuscan Glow to BLOOD ORANGE as Anne Hathaway gets her finishing touches for her wedding! *LOL* 16 loofahs later, she just starts to look normal…THAT is what Spray Tan Incident is like, an “orange” perfume that goes on and on…and on! If you like clementines (os-magine tangerines AND orange sweetness with a hint of kumquats) you gonna LOOOOOVE this!
