I simply dont understand how the parfum and toilette have no notes in common yet smell identical

I have had this EDP for about a year, and while it’s better than the EDT both in scent as well as projection and longevity, it’s still lackluster. I was so excited by the opening of it–a beautiful, nutty sandalwood and cedar, with hints of aromatic greenness. It is so perfect! I am so in love with this first stage, but the problem is that it all goes downhill from there [cue sound of sobbing]. My skin has always amped up vanilla, so the vanilla goes crazy here, along with tangy citrus, which I do not like at all. The drydown is this combo of vanilla citrus that reminds me of so many other fragrances, like Vanille Insensee and even Eau des Baux, for starters. I also did not like the vanilla/citrus combo in those. It’s a combo that just doesn’t work for me, with Eau de Shalimar being the one and only exception. I am torn on what to do with this, as I love the opening so much but might never reach for it due to the annoying drydown.

My signature scent. This is the only frag I need. Inoffensive noble buttery santal.

Calm, centred, cedar-flecked contemplative classic. One of the very first fragrances I fell in love with, and although I’ve come to recognise some faults, it’s still right there in my imaginary wooden-scent memory palace, right at the heart of the sacred temple.
After I got through my first few bottles of this I got impatient with its relatively soft sillage, wanting something which did sandalwood in a more assertive, bigger and longer-lasting way. I’ve smelled scores of things since then called variants of “Santal” or “sandalwood” or “wood magic” or what have you – and enjoyed plenty of them, and even bought a few. Whether it’s sweet and lush, spicy and dark, or even verging on coconut, sandalwood always works for me. But somehow I never fully fell for any other one (except Mona di Orio’s barnstorming Santal Nabataea, which is a whole galaxy of £££ and complexity from this.) Yet TD always kept calling me back, its fragrant mantra scrolling through at the back of my mind.
So I put it on lots of price alerts and watchlists, then won an eBay auction of a partial bottle to blunt the pain of its price, and dived back in again.
And on going back to it? Miracles – it’s as good as it ever was, AND, having taken a break, I can now finally smell how much of its bracingly delicious opening derives from the citrus and ginger notes which I’d never been able to detect individually before. Tam Dao still isn’t perfect: it could be kickier (which I guess is the reason Le Labo Santal 33 was first formulated), it’s spare rather than opulent, and it’s still pretty discreet for its price. The mix of cedar with sandalwood works just fine for me, but those expecting pure luxe sandalwood might feel short-changed. But somehow it still manages to be warm, beautiful and honest. Try it, and see if it brings you the same inner peace it somehow works on me. Just beautiful.

I love this one. Dry, woody, aromatic, with the bass harmony of cedar and sandalwood throughout. A perfect light overtone of vanilla, ginger, coriander, and lime, that blend indistinctly into a light tart sweetness, that is just enough to maintain the dry overall woodiness perfectly.
Longevity is not great. But given the perfect realistic, high quality naturalness, I’m ok wth that.
Once I get a bottle this and Philosykos will do it for this house for me, which overall i think is worth checking out as a high quality, decent price niche house with cool aesthetic to their bottles, and use high quality ingredients. Even when I don’t like the scents–vetyverio, tempo–i recognize the quality.
8.5/10 for me. Bottle worthy, eventually.

I’ve only recently been looking for a creamy sandalwood. I had high hopes that this would be it. But I think I must be anosmic to it because I am only getting a cedar, much thinner and more transparent than I expected and only when I put my nose up to my skin. Disappointed. I’ve never tried the EdT. Must do a side-by-side comparison with Sacred Wood but when I tried that I also didn’t get the creamy woods I was expecting. Nor with Samsara. It must be some aromachemical I have problems with or I simply have concocted some image of sandalwood in my head that doesn’t exist!
I was once on a plane to Dubai and the handwash had a gorgeous distinctively creamy note that would waft out whenever someone came out of the toilet (!). I don’t remember the brand but it was called ‘Amber and Sandalwood’ or similar. So that has become how I imagine sandalwood… but perhaps it was the amber I was smelling? I didn’t think amber could be so creamy that it was almost a texture or weight in the air…
The only thing I have smelt that has come close to this is the creamy ‘coconut’ note in Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily (having tested it twice). Still not sure actually if this is due to the sandalwood or amber in this fragrance – or perhaps a combination of the two? Maybe someone more knowledgeable can shed more light. Anyway, will continue to use my sample of Tam Dao and hope that it clicks one day but I’m not optimistic. Meanwhile, a bottle of Dark Amber and Ginger Lily is on its way and my fingers are crossed …

This perfume is fine. It dances in warmer weather but in cooler weather… it gets lost. it’s very clean and very woodsy… if that is what you prefer. It has a “sweat” vibe some may like or hate. I wouldn’t re-buy, only because it doesn’t last long, maybe an hour or two… that’s it.

Second test on a lovely warm day. It’s really quite beautiful. Sandalwood solo to me! Might be hunting down a large decant or full bottle!❤️

I see many people here who seem to prefer this version over the edt, saying the edt is weaker. Personally I love the edt, and it lasts all day on me, while I unfortunately have problems smelling this one (I have to sniff very close to where I sprayed, and it is soon gone)…
From what I CAN smell, the edt is greener/fresher, with a herbal edge, while the edp reminds me much more of Sacred Wood by Killian (I never smelled a similarity between the edt and Sacred Wood).

Why does this remind me of Le Labo Santal 33 layered with Byredo Gypsy Water

I’ve smelled many hundreds of niche frags and this is my all time favourite. It just tickles my senses somehow like nothing else.
dobrik88 – :
The ultimate pure and creamy sandalwood fragrance.
I was searching for something that was purely a sandalwood fragrance and, if possible, close to the scent of Mysore sandalwood. Ended up ordering 3 samples from Luckyscent:
– Diptyque Tam Dao EDP
– Floris London Santal
– Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Santal Noble
Tam Dao ended up being the pick of the lot for me due to its creamy smooth interpretation of Sandalwood. Santal Noble leans a bit heavier on the oriental side due to its spices and incense. Floris is beautiful but I would only consider it sandalwood-centric with wonderful notes of lavender and vanilla surrounding the sandalwood heart.

I was completely caught off guard, it happened so suddenly…
I’m in love.
True love, not infatuation. There is passion, sure, but also a feeling of intimacy, freedom and companionship.
Tam Dao makes me feel at peace. It lingers without ever being overwhelming. When I wear it, I don’t feel like an impostor as I sometimes do when wearing scents that are out of my comfort zone. I am just me.
If you’re into soft woody scents with a lot of soul, you will also fall for this head over heels.
nzf570Unlogrere – :
Way better than the EDT smoother and woodsy. I prefer it over the Sacred wood by Killan and right up there (sort of) with Santal 33 by Lelabo.
xpornon – :
Reminds me of visiting old temples in Kyoto, Japan. Very fine incense fragrance. Pricy, but EDP version is better than EDT version.
alexrom66 – :
It’s here!!! Everyone rejoice! Thank you so much for adding this edp version to the database! Tam Dao edp smells creamier, richer, denser, and more like real sandalwood than the peppery cedary edt concentration. Edp is superior quality-wise, more full-bodied and satisfying. Worth a sniff on your sandalwood journey, for sure.
