I’m a man who loves the smell of coconut and wearing this and love it

    Great warm,creamy day/work fragrance.

Received a .17 fl oz spray today through ipsy.
Smells like an over dose of salt in a saline solution. I know salt isn’t listed, but that’s exactly how it smells on me.
Alot of salt, water and salt, that’s all I’m getting.
Eeh! I am not a fan.

  4. :

Sandalwoody coconut. That’s the end smell. All the other ingredients are smoothing the edges of this combo.
The name is deceiving. I was expecting something more fresh & citrusy.
Scent-wise it is a meh, a “like” at best. The performance is excellent & it better be with that price tag (~$130).
Unless you’re a coconut fanatic, the scent is not worth the asking price.

I own the vial as part of the Discovery Kit.
A creamy coconut with a light spicy tinge to it… this stays fairly flat throughout the day (straight line, so it never changes…) I actually like the scent but I feel it smells “familiar,” and I think it’s because the sandalwood gets eaten up by my skin mostly. The resulting scent feels very… reminiscent of body butters that my more beauty-savvy friends used in high school.
Verdict is for me, I like the scent. It doesn’t turn vile so I think it’s very dependent on body chem so anyone read this test it out in store and wear it, but for me, since it reminds me of mildly exotic coconut body butters from maybe the Body Shop or some other similar store, I’m certainly not going to buy the full size.

    Fake, powdery sandalwood. Not creamy.

Tried it in Sephora. It smelled nothing on me. Nor in the moment, nor 5h later.
    Very strange…

Deceptively creamy sandwalwood with coconut when you first spray. Turns into the “hot plastic armpit” smell like a minute after you make the mistake of spritzing it on… awful.

  9. :

Creamy sandalwood and coconut with a hint of something buttery, caramelized, and nutty. The opening reminds me a lot of Serge Lutens’ Jeux de Peau in that way. Unfortunately, it’s not as interesting as the Lutens.

It’s nice, I love sandalwood. But it smells just like a sandalwood perfume oil I bought in a crystal and tarot shop with the slightest hint of coconut. I could see myself buying a bottle though. I really like the way it smells. I don’t get Sunny Side Up out of it though.

It starts off rather pleasantly creamy until you warm up to it and get closer, when the coconut mixing with Iso E Super turns into melting hot plastic or burning hair that’s being worked through with a dead-hot straightening iron, masking any woodiness it might have. Let it sit on your skin a little longer for it to dissipate and you’ll see it lightening up rather quickly (not sure if that’s NOT a bonus point). I could not possibly see this as the sweet morning scent it’s portraying and sincerely do not recommend anyone to buy it.
Most discernable notes are coconuts, petrol, sandalwood-wannabe, a TOUCH of paint solvent.

Outside the brand’s Paris store, they had a bottle of this set on a display, urging people to try it – how this bottle didn’t accidentally-on-purpose walk away, is a mystery but I digress.
Whatever it purports to contain, it’s a straight-forward and simple scent. All I get is coconut, some creamy sandalwood, and some Iso E Super to lend it all a gauzy, languid feeling. It doesn’t project much at all and quickly dies down to a pleasant, if unremarkable, skin scent.
If Iso E Super makes your nose fatigued, stay far away..its insistent murmur is very noticeable. However, if you don’t mind its hum and also like coconut and sandalwood, give it an honest go.

The deeper I get into fragrances, the more I am finding out that I really do not love Sandalwood (and my husband must hate it. Even if I do not tell him I am trying a new scent, if it has Sandalwood….almost right away he says he is getting a headache and feels nauseous!!).
Sunny Side up, with it’s Jasmine/Sandalwood/Coconut combination does not work for me at all! It is strong, cloying and feels very heavy!!
I love coconut scents, but this is a musky & heavy coconut and the Sandalwood and Jasmine make the coconut feel oppressive.
Rarely do I have to scrub a scent off and then wipe with alcohol…but Sunny Side Up is a scrubber.
    NOT a safe blind buy!!

Sandalwood, coconut and Iso E Super in a very sexy and cozy blend, I can’t get enough of it! A genious fragrance.

I love many JHAG fragrances and I love sandalwood, hence Sunny Side Up looked interesting on paper; alas, it doesn’t work on my skin at all. It’s just downright weird. Yes, the sandalwood is rather prominent, but somehow sour and unappealing, paired with some sweaty musks and synthetic coconut. Then after awhile these are all gone and we’re left with nothing but Iso E Super. Honestly I don’t know what the hell happened with this one, but somehow it’s completely wrong.

I don’t even know what happened here. I didn’t think sandalwood could ever be “savory,” but it can. And it’s disgusting. I sprayed this on me last night and smelled like eggs frying in butter, with a side of sandalwood. There was no drydown, no other layers. Just… sandalwood eggs. Absolutely vile. And it WOULD. NOT. LEAVE! I can’t get this stuff out of my house fast enough!
Edit: It’s not just that I don’t like the scent on my skin. Because I gave the sample to my grandma, who actually really enjoys it! She sprayed it on herself, and I was finally able to describe what this smells like to me: somebody fried some eggs, and then threw them inside an antique chest. I’m grateful that my grandma doesn’t wear this around me, because I think it smells vile.

This is the first Juliette Has A Gun that i’ve tested. I must say i am a bit disappointed. To me it smells like Jil Sander Sun and Zadig & Voltaire This is Her mixed together. It is not really a summer fragrance. It is weird. It smells like a cold deserted beach. Sillage is disappointing too. The sales girl sprayed a lot on me and i can barely smell it when i sniff my arm.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

This just doesn’t go with my body chemistry. When I first spray it on my skin it’s a lovely lovely incense sandalwood with a pretty almost cedar like quality to it. Then it warms on my skin. And oh…. just no. Then it smells like sweaty armpits. It’s really too bad. Not a safe blind buy.

  19. :

This is everything, what TF Santal Blush was supposed to be. Thick, oily sandalwood with tad of coconut and great longevity. I had a goose bumps, when I first sprayed it on my skin. It was superb. Love it! It is on my ‘want’ list.

  20. :

First: this is NOT like Bronze Goddess…this is just WOULD like be Bronze Goddess.
So plastic scent, I hate it on my skin.

  21. :

    3 out of 5

It’s definitely got that ISO-E super Molecule 01 thing going on. Imagine that with a slight hint of vanilla.
Could a guy wear it? Sure, but it does come off a bit feminine.

  22. :

On tester: Eh. Mostly generic spice ish something.

  23. :

    5 out of 5

First time testing from LuckyScent sample: after a brief, fun coconutty opening, I get almost pure, spiced, woody sandalwood. Really nice!! Reminds me a lot of Tam Dao (the EDT I think, but it’s been a while since I’ve smelled that one. I think this one’s less green?)
Really nice! Will certainly use the whole sample and it makes me realize I miss sandalwood…. especially the non-milky gourmandy kind. [5/18]

This is my current favorite day/general fragrance. I get mostly sandalwood, but abit brighter than other sandalwood scents I’ve tried. Sadly I don’t get any coconut at all, which I love, but still this is what I read for when I am feeling blah about getting going for the day. It’s not what I would choose for a night out, nor do I find it “sexy” at all. Dries down musky on me.

  25. :

This fragrance is soooo good! It is the best JHAG, in my opinion. So underrated. You all are missing out!
This has a lot of coconut and sandalwood. What a glorious combination. It’s like you are wearing suntan lotion in the woods. The creaminess is comforting and contains a happiness accord that many are sure to love. It will bring a smile to your face in the darkest storm with a little dance of sunshine across your skin.

This is a gorgeous fragrance that really does invoke the scent of warm sun-kissed skin. It does have similarities to EL Bronze Goddess but is a much subtler gentle scent. It really does have a happy beach time vibe about it.

  27. :

    5 out of 5

First off, I get lots of coconut in this. Overall this is fun and beachy with a shot of sweet citrus and added flowers with a nice dusty sandalwood base that gets more pronounced as it dries down. Smells nice and kind of elegant, but not overly expensive, niche or sophisticated. I find this feminine with an edging toward unisex. As a guy I can pull this off on a hot day and if I were going to an outdoor event in nice weather. In a close quarters office space this might be a bit much. Overall I like this, it’s sunny, happy with a fresh suntan lotion feel to it. I couldn’t wear this all the time, but I do enjoy it on occasion. Mild thumbs up here.

  28. :

It smells totally like versace crystal noir – i get same notes and same dark sweet coconut. Jhag dries down a bit lighter than versace – this ome stays heavy all along.

  29. :

    3 out of 5

This might be called ‘Bronze God’ – similar to Estee Lauder scent. It’s a more unisex/leaning towards masculine Bronze Goddesses. The two perfumes begin very similar, but after an hour there are gender preferences for each. Sunny Side Up has more sharp wood, just whiffs of coconut and it’s more serious perfume in essence for me, so the name is ironic;)
I definitely see the resemblance between those 2 perfumes but would love to smell this off a guy.

  30. :

My opinion is exactly like ota mom. I can smell almost only iso super which reminds of molecule perfume alot. And actualy nothing sunny here

  31. :

    5 out of 5

To me there is not much else besides iso e. Nothing warm, nothing sunny.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

A pleasant scent, the sandalwood is very noticeable. However, I expected the scent to be warmer for such a name of fragrance 🙂

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Straight masculine woods. Some sandalwood but mostly sharp screeching woods. In the opening there is the slightest hint of non-sweet vanilla but is completely dominated by woods. I am giving it to my husband.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

I was expecting lemon, but got mostly bergamot. Neither of these are among the official notes. Reminds me a lot of Le Labo Bergamote 22.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

Sunny Side Up is a simple composition. It smells of synthetic sandalwood, iso e, musk and oatmeal. It’s a soft and milky (not creamy or rich) scent. I don’t get much sweetness or coconut. The synthetics are obvious, but their harsh edges are smoothed here. Strong projection and longevity. I’m not fond of Juliette Has A Gun’s use of large amounts of synthetics – Not A Perfume was awful on me – but this isn’t bad. It doesn’t smell like real sandalwood, but it’s still a nice smell. The milky wheatiness of it reminds me a lot of Aveeno Oatmeal products or oatmeal baths that I take during winter to keep my skin smooth. I would prefer the Iso-e turned down a bit though.

Imagine you have just had a luxurious, warm bath in your favourite oils, and then put on a soft cashmere jumper. You are expecting the man/woman of your dreams to visit you later this evening. THIS is the fragrance you would reach for. Vanilla, sandalwood, creamy warm, with a hint of coconut. Deliciously soft and sexy. Clean and inviting at the same time. It’s subtle – just enough for a warm and sensuous evening. It’s not what you would wear if you are going to the club, or to an interview – but it leaves you feeling so delectable that you will even find yourself irresistible xx

  37. :

Beautiful sandalwood, much better than I expected (even as a JHAG fan)! Only reservation is that it is very similar to Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude, an obvious similarity which I am surprised to find no one else has mentioned. Sensuous Nude is a trace more complex, but they are 85% the same. Sunny Side Up has more iso E super woodiness; Sensuous is “dressier,” by which I mean it has floral overtones.
But I will buy this if I run out of Sensuous Nude. Love this scent.

For me this is a lovely creamy sandalwood. I tried it out today and was immediately impressed with it. Its not overly “perfumey” and could be worn by anyone. As madeline7 said it smells like hair, like a warm embrace with a friend. Not overly “sexy” but familiar. I think I may have to add it to my wish list.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

As Lemonfresh said below, Sunny Side Up also reminds me of Jeux de Peau, especially on the first spray. The opening reminds me of that same coconut cookie, buttered popcorn vibe. For me, though, it has less of the wheaty fresh biscuit feel as it dries. It’s a creamy, slightly vanillic sandalwood then. Still buttery and warm. It also has less projection than Jeux de Peau, although part of me wonders if I might be anosmic to something in it. I seem to smell it better from afar, or on clothes the next day, than when I am actually attempting to smell it directly. The longevity seems to be quite good, though. I sprayed it on my wrist one night before bed, and I could still smell it close to my skin the next morning.
On the box, it’s advertised as “a happy therapy, to enlight your day and lift up your mind.” I don’t know if I would say it’s doing all that for me, but many of my other vanilla/sandalwood “comfort” fragrances tend to be more tenacious and heavy-hitting, so this is a nice change of pace. On this chilly Sunday at home, it’s easygoing and doing what I need it to do!

  40. :

This one is a pleasant vanilla-coconut-sandalwood blend that has a bit of milkiness to it. A creamy gourmand. I kind of want to eat it, as though it would taste like sugared almonds, warm milk and coconut. A sweetened-up Jeux de Peau. Comforting. Happy. It does evoke a coconut based lotion on warm skin, much like lying on the beach, “sunny-side-up.” Or more, after you’ve left the beach, cooled off, and are relaxing somewhere, lingering coconut wafting from your skin. There’s nothing syrupy or dark about it. Nothing bright and energizing either. It’s calm and soft.
I’ll have to go try it against Jeux de Peau to see if my scent-memory is accurate on this one.
It’s a thumbs-up from me. I like it! It seems like it could work as a cozy winter fragrance as well as a summer one. It’s light enough to wear to the office without offending anyone at all.

Really reminds me of Katy Perry’s Indi. Only Sunny Side Up is stronger.

  42. :

Ultra-modern and charismatic… a fusion of coconut and sandalwood really beautiful with timid floral notes. Light and clear, gives a sense of freedom and releases an unforgettable wake, the drydown is really beautiful and i really like the ambrette seeds as they join the other notes. I recommend to try, this perfume is among my JHG favorites! Is particular and i really like it!❣ ☀ 🙂
    Sillage: 6.5/10
    Longevity: 8./10
    Scent: 9/10
    Overall: 9./10

  43. :

    5 out of 5

    Creamy, cozy and comforting.
First 30 seconds the woodsy smell is too strong for me, but it quickly mellows out to a creamy vanilla sandalwood. The scent lingers close to your skin all day. But something keeps making me sniff my arm again and again. It has an intoxicating I-need-to-smell-it-again scent (similar to Mmmm…).
It’s definitely unique smelling and I’m happy to have the travel sized spray in my collection. When I use up the spray I’ll get a full bottle.

  44. :

    4 out of 5

Just tried this today without knowing much about it. My impression is it’s a linear dry woody scent. Like a pile of cedar chips. The coconut isn’t obvious but really just creates a sandalwood illusion ny adding a subtle sweetness and milkiness. This is a great sub for Le Labo Santal 33 if one wanted a less expensive option. If I smelled this in the street I’d have guessed it was the Le Labo. I don’t personally enjoy this or the LL as a personal fragrance, but enjoy it as a room scent and may get a couple of Sephora samples to use as room spray! Personally like Diptyque Tam Dao better than either the JHAG or LL.
I also don’t think the name suits it. I was expecting something bright and cheerful, sweeter, fruitier perhaps. This isn’t necessarily melancholy, but I don’t feel happy or giddy wearing it and it doesn’t feel fun. I feel subdued and it has a calming quality, the way one might feel inside a newly built wood cabin or in a sauna made of cedar. I might’ve named it “Chillax” or “O(m)MG” or somesuch JHAG goofiness, lol.

@genny17, I’m glad to see you call it unisex – makes me want to try it. I’ll be a bit apprehensive though as I, too, am not a fan of coconut. Thanks for your interesting review. I do enjoy the sound of a earty spa place tho!

I just bought the 100 ml bottle of this incredible scent. I’ve been looking for a soft, creamy fragrance with a touch of coconut and this is it. Madeline 7, said in her review that it smelt like clean hair… in a good way. When I first wore it, that’s all I could smell. Weirdest scent and so true! It smells like hair… It kind of put me off. I kept thinking hair, hair, hair. But I kept sampling it, and it’s pure love. It pairs up really well with the Hempz original body lotion or Bath/ body works “At the Beach”body lotion. I also love wearing it with Herbivore’s Coconut Hair perfume. It’s a subtle skin scent but it has good staying power and becomes softer/ sweeter as the day goes by. It’s now my signature. Love, love, love.

  48. :

The closest thing is an “unscented perfume”I’ve smelled since All That Matters. Just after applying my sample, I can detect a bit of warmth, like an almondy-musk, if I press my nose against my wrist, that’s it.

I am in love with this new JHAG. I am almost done my little purse spray which was gifted to me by generous fragrantican genny17 , thanks again !!! :). I am soon getting the full size ! Sunny side up is a great perfume to wear around the house or to bed , to sit and read a book or to go to the grocery store or any daytime event. A warm sandalwood with a touch of spiciness. It’s creamy and inviting. Pleasant and happy ! It reminds me of the real smell,of sandalwood. Perfumes that are comparable to are Tam Dao and Santal blush and sacred woods , it’s all about sandalwood and ESO E super , fabulous!

  50. :

Ok, I finally figured out what this scent reminds me of! It reminds me of hair.
Bear with me for a moment…I know it sounds strange, but you know when you hug someone and their hair smells nice (without smelling like fragrance or shampoo)? This smell reminds me of that moment and that scent.
This doesn’t smell like a perfume, it just smells like a happy moment.

  51. :

    3 out of 5

This scent is so interesting! Its a subtle scent that just feels warm, bright, inviting and clean. It has the ISO E Super that people rave about in Escentric Molecules (but I could barely detect), but with this scent I can actually smell it! There is a very tiny hint of sweetness/coconut, but otherwise it just smells like someone who naturally smells amazing, if that makes any sense. This smells wonderful without feeling like a perfume

  52. :

    3 out of 5

Not too impressed by this new release’!? It doesn’t smell like a typical JHAG, it has a sharp top notes, and then a strange coconut/ musky vibe…almost like a tacky one…like I am not fond of coconut in perfumes, and it gives Sunny side up a different undertone..almost cheap…now, it is also vaguely unisex, not that pretty or attractive..nothing soft about this release..
I don’t like the name, nor do I care for the smell..glad I got only the purse spray , not the bottle.,one that is hard to define, and for my taste, wouldn’t want to wear ! Doesn’t smell like a perfume, more like those weird scents one can smell in health food/earthy spas places..

  53. :

    3 out of 5

I ordered this perfume as soon as it came out because I usually love JHAG and the reviews I read made it seem like this was exactly the perfume I was looking for at the end of the summer. I was not disappointed, it has this really comforting scent and I think fits the “happiness therapy” theme perfectly. I’m not into too much coconut but this one evolves into something softer and not too sweet that really feels like this summer hair spray you use in january to make it look like you were at the beach a week ago. Just love it !

  54. :

OMG this is gorgeous I just bought a bottle last weekend. I smell sandalwood and vanilla with a little coconut. Such a happy scent. So many compliments!! This is my first JHAG fragrance. My only regret is that I bought a 50 mL when I should have got 100mL!

  55. :

    3 out of 5

I just got this today and I’ll get straight to the point, I’m hugely disappointed, something in this repulses me. It almost reminds me of Old Spice or some other overly musky with a sweet twist fragrance. I’d go so far as to say this nauseates me.
From the limited reviews I’d read I was hoping it would be similar to EL’s Bronze Goddess, reviewers had spoken of a beach scent with a coconutty vibe but this couldn’t be further from that in my opinion. It has a suffocating powdery, muskiness that doesn’t evolve into anything other than even heavier musk.
After 20 minutes I had to scrub it off.
When will I learn not to blind buy?!
