Description

A cold and dreary winter’s day stirs fond memories of happier times for perfumer Mark Constantine: a joyous United States roadtrip with friends, driving down the shore listening to Simon and Garfunkel and enjoying the summer sunshine. Sun recaptures the happy memories with zesty orange, tangerine and fizzy mimosa, all resting on a base of sultry sandalwood.

Sun features a label in bright hues of orange and red with the sun itself depicted as a lollipop. This fragrance is available in a variety of sizes from 0.3 oz. to 3.1 oz. Sun was launched in 2013.

A lot softer citrus than karma is.
Karma screems oranges, sun is more soft. Clean.
Just a little bit of sandalwood gives this a base that
Holds a nicer gental Sumner feeling.
Not overpowering, close to skin, on sunshine hot days this is refreshing.
Nice summer scent and not obviously by lush.

Sun really isn’t my favourite Lush perfume, it smells like orange juice to me, not a scent I want to smell like, but I’d probably consider buying a candle version etcetera!
But just in response to the comment regarding ingredients below, the UK products have all their ingredients available to view.
DRF Alcohol Water *Limonene Brazilian Orange Oil Perfume Glycerine Mimosa Absolute Sandalwood Oil *Citral *Linalool

Fizzy tangerine mineral water, as a other reviewer described this scent, pretty much sums it up

    Middle aged male review.
    The bad and good:
I was given a Lush catalog several years ago and was intrigued by their vegan-like approach, always on the lookout for both all-natural stuff and cruelty free.
Somewhere in their marketing materials, they either state clearly, or lead one to believe, that their fragrances are 100% all-natural.
And I am certain that the SA’s at their stores (including management) state this.
I tried Sun at the store on test strip and liked it, bought it knowing it would be a short-lived light citrus, which is fine with me, and which I needed; I don’t mind re-applying and am always looking for a very likeable, short lived fresh citrus, since I’m not a fan of freshies on the whole (the common designer freshies I have an all-out hatred for).
The store concept and theme was something I support, so I was eager to show that support and make a purchase.
I got home and read the label: Up front in the ingredients reads “fragrance.”
I assumed this was due to trade-secret ingredients which the fragrance industry has a legal corner on (which I’m not sure they should, a topic for another time).
Later, I needed a scent-of-the-afternoon, and was looking forward to giving it a good half-dozen sprays on my clothes post-gym shower as an afternoon scent to finally explore fully.
    After the half-dozen sprays, I had an immediate “Oh…wait a minute…”
My nose is attuned enough at this stage that I can recognize synthetics. I do enjoy and indulge in some synthetics, but I always prefer natural frags.
I smelled a synthetic. I don’t know the exact chemical, but which I hope is not javanol (sandalwood), but I don’t think that it is because it’s impossible to wash javanol off.
Point being: There are synthetics here, no question.
I don’t think I still have their catalog, to verify how it’s being marketed, but both customers and the company need to be both aware and transparent about this respectively.
Had I known there were synthetics, I would’ve passed on this; there are other all-naturals that last as long and are even nicer.
Lush’s perfumers are not providing enough effort and quality, at least not with their American releases; they need to hire a Dawn or Christi to design some natural frags for them! (Or the equally talented Sonoma Scent Studio lady).
It is a very nice scent. But it’s main thrust is not a natural, and smells distinctly synthetic (although is a nice smelling synthetic).
It’s just not exactly what I was looking for, and not what I expected based on how this company marketed to me. The latter part of which bothers me a bit.
    Enough said.
UPDATE: A day later on the test strip, I detect what I am almost 100% certain is javanol. The site/company has a very ethical vibe regarding sourcing, hand-made, animal testing, etc…It gives the impression of an all-natural approach, which may be somewhat misleading. If they may be using synthetic chemicals in their products, I guess they just need to be more transparent about it.

I love citrus scents, but I often give scathing reviews of some terribly overpriced niche fragrances that only offer a ten-minute citric blast, and then dissappear forever, leaving you broke AND scentless. On the other hand, I am more than happy to praise Lush Sun for what it is – an extremely realistic orange & tangerine pairing. Citrus notes in general are known to be fleeting, however given Sun’s affordable price and (almost) all-natural ingredients, it performs quite decently. I mostly use it for layering, but it also works quite nicely on its own.

I was given the solid version of this scent, and I’m honestly glad I didn’t pay for it. It smells exactly like peeling an orange. There is zero sillage and I couldn’t smell it after 5 minutes, even with my nose up to my skin. I ended up throwing it away.

As other reviewers have stated, Sun is a light, inoffensive, little citrus number. It wasn’t for me simply because I prefer The Body Shop’s “Satsuma” for when I want a simple, bright, cheerful citrus. And that desire certainly isn’t often enough for me to warrant owning both fragrances.
If you love light citrus fragrances, go for it! This may be worth a test for you. But If you want a strong silage, more cheerful citrus, Try Satsuma. I think you’ll find it worlds better with the added bonus of a slightly lower cost.

My first thought on wearing Sun was that it reminded me of Christmas & tucking into oranges & tangerines etc. Yum.

Like eating a tangerine flavoured fizzy centered lollipop. I like it! But I could just buy a tangerine flavoured fizzy centered lollipop for the same (and slightly enhanced) experience:D So not a buy for me.

Expect something like orange flavoured mineral water and you won’t be put off. Sun must have been intended to be made so slight — however I fail to see the point. A shop assistant told me – using these very words – that this is for those who don’t really like wearing perfumes. 🙂
Out of curiosity I’ve bought the solid. It reminds me of beeswax (could’ve been but not actually an ingredient) and hay. Be aware that it is lustred all through — an effect created by Calcium Sodium Borosilicate and Tin Oxide I believe.

Simple citrus fragrance that smells like fresh orange juice, and not overly sweet, The Sun is the perfect name for this LUSH darling. I love its shiny brightness and cheerfulness, but it unfortunately doesn’t last long. I tend to overspray this one to compensate and still, it fades very fast. Maybe that’s a good thing sometimes.

Mmmm kinda nice deffinatly not as in your face as karma.
Softer but citrus is still main sent I’d say it’s karmas little shy sister.

Sometimes I love this with all my heart, other times I find it has an unpleasant rubbery aroma. I keep a bottle of it in my bag, it’s the fragrance I have to rebuy the most so I guess it’s doing something right.
Fresh, light and breezy. It’s good when you want a quick refresh or blast of something nice.
It’s totally gone on my skin after half an hour, but sometimes that’s what you want. I have quite a few colognes rather than perfumes for that reason.
It’s not as intense as some colognes but has enough punch. I like that the base of this is natural, it shows and compares favourably with other colognes (some smell too much like cheap candles or home cleaning products).
The solid isn’t really worth it unless you are looking for a 100% natural fragrance. Find it too weak and the base ingredients of the solid formula change it too much. The old dropper bottles they used to do were pretty good because you could totally cover yourself in the stuff. I get the 10ml spray the most though.
Almost all the gorilla volume 2 fragrances had labels that were off-puttingly bad. This is a rare one that looks OK.
All in all this would be a good addition to anyone’s scent library. It’s about middle of the pack in terms of the lush/gorilla range. It’s pretty unique and I’m glad it’s around.

A pretty uplifting sweet juicy citrus and sandalwood fragrance. It doesnt project that much but it does last well. I have the solid form of this sunlit fragrance.

  15. :

Sun is labelled an eau de cologne and as such should be treated/realised as such. It is a zingy citrus upifter, which dries down to a sandalwoody, sweet skin scent. It does not project hugely, but lasts ages as a skin scent. Completely adorable summer EDC. Sits up there with Guerlain’s AA Mandarine Basilic. They cannot all be powerhouses, now, can they?

I bought the solid of this and it pretty much has no smell. Like a very very subtle linseed oil smell. So disappointed. Not like the description at all, unless they sent me an unscented one by mistake.
Edit: So, sniffed the liquid perfume in store to see if the solid I’d bought was a dud, but no. I just physically detect very little scent here. Most strange! First time that’s ever happened.

  17. :

For those of you who HATE a powdery note: fear not! No powder here; just juicy tangerines followed by a woody Sandalwood. Dee-lish! I bought this for my husband, but I’ve been sneaking it 😉

  18. :

    Hmmm….
That’s what I said when I anxiously opened up my pot of this for the first time. I am a fan of several of their scents (many of which either only come in soap form or have been discontinued), and while this does smell delicious and citrusy, after about a half hour, it has all but disappeared. I dig the fizziness, and the sandalwood notes. It most definitely smells closer to a kitchen fill of freshly squeezed orange rinds than anything I’ve known.
I like to wear this in conjunction with something else, and I carry it with me to work and school and use it here and there to top up. It’s subtle and fresh, and pleasant and inoffensive.

  19. :

Reminds me of rubbing oranges allover your skin or citrus bathroom spray! I’ll finish my solid scent of this but like most Lush products I find this very overrated. It seems like the people most excited about their stuff are the people who work there. The loud music, over eager in your face employees and the heavy smells make for an annoying shopping experience and the prices are ridiculous for what you get.

The simplest LUSH perfume, possibly the one that’s easiest to wear. SUN is herbaceous tangerine with clean smelling sandalwood. It is fresh, airy and perfect for sweltering summer days. This is guaranteed to wake you up and improve your mood! Longevity is poor on skin but it lasts well on clothes.

  21. :

I tried this Lush with some doubt… I don’t generally enjoy Lush perfumes on myself and I’m not into citrus.
Anyway Sun smells nice. Not the epithome of originality, yet nice.
All I can smell in the opening is orange fruit that becomes zesty tangerine on me. It smells Xmas in a summery way.
It goes on very close to the skin (oil) and sparkling all along for almost 1 hour and more. It woke me up.
It becomes absolutely faint on skin after 2 hours, but then it arrives here, too: sandalwood in its raw quality, but much tame and sweet. Cosy and zesty.
Longlasting on skin, with very poor sillage.

Sun smells like fresh tangerines. I like smelling like fresh tangerines, so I bought a bottle, and am wearing some now as I type out this review, and I’m feeling pretty darn cheerful, optimistic and clean, oh, and I also smell very nice, just like fresh tangerines actually.
    ***Quick update on longevity***
The fresh tangerine lasts for just over two hours. After that time it becomes a sandlewood skin scent. I have a 10ml bottle, and I’m happy with that, but I would be disapointed if I had invested in a larger bottle as the scent doesn’t last very long at all. It’s a nice, fresh tangerine, but the longevity unfortunately lets it down.

This needs to be worn liberally to benefit from it’s cheery, uplifting nature. Unfortunately the citrus burns off my skin too quickly and fades to the slightest sandalwood. I wish this came in a body spray bottle little ‘Dirty’ does as then you could just ‘go-to-town’ with it!
Smells great on clothes and hair.

Tried this in Lush shop, loved it but they didn’t have small 7ml bottles left, so sad.

  25. :

I’ve had this on for about 15 minutes and it has disappeared to almost nothing, which is a shame because it smells fun and fresh like oranges plus orange lollies.

  26. :

Just ok. Not super duper. As a resident of the tri-state area that inspired the fragrance, I’m a bit miffed that the terminology is so off, and am therefore biased against it.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

As Nebraska said, it’s “simple and happy”. That’s all there is to it. Normal, inoffensive, fresh, authentic. Like a freshly peeled citrus fruit. It’s quite sweet still. I won’t be buying this, but it’s a scent I will classify as “cute”.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

This one is disappointing. To me it smells exactly like when you peel an orange or mandarin, which is a big plus, but kind of bad cause it doesn’t smell complex at all (which I’m used to with Lush scents).
So… that’s not the main negative point, the biggest downside of Sun is the longevity and sillage because it is nearly zero (which isn’t common for Lush). Maybe I got my one of a bad batch, since they are said to be handmade, I don’t know, but considering the price(you would have to use the whole thing to have an effect) and the nearly zero endurance of Sun I wouldn’t buy it again, I could simply buy an orange and got the same effects + vitamins.
    +great smell
    -nearly no sillage
    -nearly no longevity
    -the price
    -not complex (untypical for Lush)

This smells exactly like the label artwork: an orange lollipop that melted in the sun. Sounds a bit gross but its a really nice, fun, summery fragrance.
Its quite a linear scent -just orange and mimosas on me, no hint of sandalwood – but that’s what I love about it. Its perfect for days when I want a simple, straight-to-the-point scent (I find that simple scents are helpful when I’m stressed out and thinking of too many things. It helps clear my thoughts) plus, its great for layering!
Sun is a great scent to layer on to Lush’s Furze. Together they smell like my childhood summers 🙂
My one complaint is the sillage: it stays very close to the skin!

Love this!! I kept sniffing it over and over in the shop. They were out of the small size and I swore I wouldn’t buy a giant bottle, but that’s all they had and they didn’t know when they would get more in! This really is sunshine in a bottle. It’s like fresh squeezed orange juice! I knew this would be so fun and easy to wear in the summer that I had to have it. It’s light and the sillage is minimal, but it just makes you feel happy. I think it’s impossible not to like this!

Sun is a simple but very happy fragrance. I defy anyone not to enjoy this one, even though you may wish it had more complexity. Sun is a good fragrance for when you want to smell clean, fresh and happy and don’t want to disrupt the lives of those around you by wearing an unusual scent or something that others might find unpleasant. It smells like an orange creamsicle with a pleasant and warm sandalwood base. Nothing more, but nothing less. Having a high degree of natural components, it lasts 3-4 hours and stays fairly close to the skin.
