I was a little worried when I saw the note breakdown but I’m absolutely loving this one from my sample set. Booze and cocoa seem to be a trend in perfume, but this is exquisite. I’m trying to narrow down why, but I think I’m going to have to buy a 50 ml and get back to you.
Could be the Cypriol oil as I’m not familiar with it. I may never know, but no matter. It’s perfection.
Suma Oriental lasted more than 6 hours before turning to a skin scent and I’m betting this performs even better in cold weather (it was 80 degrees in Seattle yesterday). It’s a sexy oriental bomb. So happy to have discovered this underrated house. Color me impressed!

Perfect on my hubby in very cold winters. Tonka and cacao long lasting.

I ordered the complete Une Nuit à Bali sample set and to be honest this Suma Oriental was one of two I expected not to be ‘my cup of tea’. I’m not a big fan of patchouli or rum and in most cases unisex perfumes turn out to be too masculine for me. So when I tested it the first time I just tried one small spray fearing that based upon the notes it would be an instant dislike.
This one really took me by surprise! The patchouli is soft and the perfume is very creamy, no harsh woods or strong earthiness. I get a lot of creamy tonka and cacao and little patchouli, the rum note quickly fades which is a good thing IMO. It’s also not overly sweet but just the right amount of sweetness and chocolate.
Sillage is only heavy the first 30′ than it is moderate, on my clothes the perfume is long lasting 12+ hours but on my skin it lasts for 5 to 6 hours.
I have been wearing my sample for 2 days and I love it so much I’m getting a 50ml bottle.

For me it’s a mixture of Bentley Intense for Men and Mea Culpa; but I would prefer Bentley Intense.

The opening is stunning. I thought, that this might be a new gem: Strong earthy patchouli, strong tonka, some rum, to give it edge, some musc to smooth it out. I tend to not smell cacao in most perfumes, as it smells to my nose like a (earthy) variation of patchouli. I don’t get sandalwood or Cypriol in a dosage, that I have to mention.
Unfortunately the impression changes too early: Tonka, rum and any edge dissappeares and musc get so strong and sweet, that it gets very boring. After 1 hour the whole perfume smells of rounded, slightly unnatural patchouli and musc. I’d name the perfume “Patchouli Musc”. No dry down worth mentioning.
Don’t get me wrong, musc can be quite good in some perfumes, even in high dosages, but there are better perfumes in this genre out there. On top of it all the patchouli is synthetic, because it is entirely gone after 8 hours. Natural patchouli stays for at least 24 hours, mostly for days.
With the contemporary large range of patchouli perfumes, designer and niche, it’s not a winner.

Chocolate rum & tonka beans combination with some sweetish addition to add some twist to it. Quite quality with a nice blending. This house is impressive.

This is a fabulous perfume that I discovered in a little perfume shop last night while vacationing in Seoul. I’d never heard of the brand before but I figured it might be good considering the selection of perfumes in the shop. Suma Oriental has got patchouli, sandalwood, cashmere wood and tonka bean although from the start I thought I also smelled cigar tobacco too. A half an hour later a warmth emerges bringing forth the smell of spicy rum and cacoa for a deep, dark, boozy sweetness. It’s got medium silage and stays strong even at 8-10 hours. This is a unisex fragrance that is warm, fuzzy, comforting, and sexy. Absolutely gorgeous!

Patchouli morbido, levigato, soave.
Armonizzante, aiuta a pensare.
Molto “deixa a vida me levar…”.
Bello.
