I found a bottle for a song at a local antique store. It is a splash and I quickly decanted some in my sprayer to wake up the long sleeping molecules. I remember the original commercial broadcast on TV sets with dials and antennae. Ah, the early 1970s comes to life in this lively, warm weather favorite. It “makes a girl feel pretty” and this 53 year old man quite happy! I never understood the naughty connotation of “skinny dipping”. This bottle is at least 45 years old
Out of the bottle, the citrus notes are wobbly and almost rancid. Then I sprayed them and they woke up for the most part-lemon, lime, tangerine, raspberry and strawberry dance for a moment, then give way to orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine. I get some fresh green(herbal-vetiver/oakmoss?)notes. The aldehyde/ozone accord is not traditional for this type of composition. Somehow it bring everything together. There is a light musk resting on some blonde woods. Its is quite buoyant and fresh.
This was the trend with Earth Born Shampoo and Coty Earth Scents fruit offerings. I would say this was the first fruit craze in perfume, not unlike today. There is nothing sweet or candy like. Unless you remember Sweet Tarts.
This lasts for several hours and is perfect for hot days at amusement parks. It is a classic and at no time smells old.

I received this scent as a birthday present from my parents when I was about 10 years old, maybe a little older. It came in a gift set with a scented dusting powder/powder puff and a little embroidery kit to make a “jeans patch”.
It was a very fresh and bright citrus fragrance with a hint of fruity sweetness, and a touch of powdery white musk and woods towards the drydown. Skinny Dip had decent longevity and sillage, although even then I did tend to over spray!
This perfume was marketed to teens and young women, with perky, upbeat, sort of “liberated” ads featuring the tomboyish but pretty actress, Sandy Duncan. The tag line was “it makes a girl feel pretty”.
I really miss Skinny Dip, it was a fun fragrance!
