Description

The collection Navigations Through Scent by Molton Brown introduced a new fragrance named SHISUR in September 2014. The perfume is inspired by thousands of Arabic nights in the city under sand and reveals again the forgotten spectacle of famous trading depicted with precious oud, which is intense, provocative and deep.

The composition of the new edition by Molton Brown Shisur includes extremely sophisticated aromas of iris combined with decadent accords of saffron and dark shades of olibanum evoking the scent of polished dishes. Key notes of this oriental-woody compositions are oud, olibanum, labdanum absolute, dry fruits, iris, saffron, cedar, caraway and orris. The perfumer behind this composition is Jennifer Jambon.

On the occasion of creating this fragrance Jennifer Jambon states: “The fragrance is very unique due to the delicate balance of ingredients used in creating a harmonious, woody-oriental character. Unlike other oud perfumes, the labdanum absolute in this blend gives a smoky, leathery effect without leaving an overpowering note from the strength of oud. Moreover, the dry fruit oriental balsamic accord and iris complement oud, taking a different approach to other perfumes which tend to use classical vanilla and rose notes. The natural saffron oleoresin adds an individual, modern facet and enhances the warm, sensual oriental notes. Finally, the orris concrete adds a sophisticated floral, powdery aspect that balances the masculine, woody accord making it perfectly proportioned as a unisex fragrance.”

Fragrance Shisur is available in a flacon of the same form as other editions of the collection Navigations Through Scent as 50 ml.

    EOh snap!!!
I’m in love big time with this fragrance. I always foolishly overlook Molton Brown as a ‘serious’ fragrance contender but this is incredible stuff. As soon as I smelled the stunning opening I was like “Wow! Oud!” Not what I was expecting at the price point, until I realised this one is more pricey than the others in this range and it makes sense too, the quality is evident immediately. Yeah anyway is a kind of spice bizarre of Oud, sandalwood, with saffron coming on stronger and stronger as it settles, heady almost plasticky, earthiness The saffron is almost too much even for me and it’s one of my favourite ingredients. Seriously the balance in Shisur is just right making it potent and smooth at the same time. I’ve smelled a few fragrances similar to this before but nothing quite the same, I’m a total sucker for Oud and saffron, then sandalwood and spices, put them all together and basically I’m happy, certainly in this context the Oud & Saffron smells quite different to even one of my big favourites MFK Oud.
Superb Molton Brown! Well done and no doubt I will have to get this fragrance it is immense!!! I don’t even have to wait for it to drydown to know it will take me on a journey of hedonistic, woody pleasure. Take me now Shisur I’m all yours!
Update: as predicted the saffron smooths out and gets silkier, the Oud and sandalwood create a warm, sweet, humming bed of loveliness. I think I’m going to get this. It isn’t cheap £95 for 50mls but I’m enjoying it so much I don’t think I can pass it up? Longevity is good but it’s a very subtle skin scent, but I’m more than happy with the performance. The testers I tried had some really poor sprayers but the actual bottle is nice looking and the TDH style twisting lock sprayer is an innovative and nice touch (providing you get one that functions correctly!) from Molton Brown adding value to what is quality scent already but perhaps needs that perception of quality to achieve such a price. Although having said that the rest of the line are in these bottles and some are only £65…anyway nevermind.

What an amazing sweet leathery fragrance! So, I get a sweet saffron and a very soft yet, creamy-like cedarwood. The cedarwood is in the background and peeks its head, yet you know he’s there and well blended. Definitely, there are elements of Londonium and Singosari, to know this comes from the same family or that the nose behind this is near, however unique! Shisur is not overtly candy feminine sweet, but there is a great combination of Oud and some smokiness mixed with the sweet caraway that solicits appreciation for how wonderful it is. Shisur can be unisex; I would say this is a great men’s fragrance-one can garner about 6-7 hours of projection. Sillage is great; performance is great; definitely an eau de parfum….the dry down is wonderful and stunning. What you get at first application is what you get throughout minus the alcohol that you’d get at first spray. Overall, a great fragrance!!
    P.S. Shisur meets Journey Man!!
Shisur is Journey Man dressed up! Or is it, Journey Man is Shisur dressed up? Whatever…..there both dressed up, THERE you haven’t!!
Goes on like Journey Man’s sweetness, settles like Santal Carmin Atelier’s suede sweet leather….then comes out a spicy mixture called Shisur!!

If someone new to the unusual charms of aoud fragrances was to ask me for a suggestion then I’m pretty sure that Shisur would be pretty high on my list of recommendations. The agarwood note takes centre stage and is flanked, tamed, even by cedar and saffron, making it inoffensive, yet in no way uninteresting nor subdued.
It’s a perfectly modern oriental for European tastes – think of a weekend perusing the Medina of Morocco and staying in a boutique hotel, as opposed to an intrepid backpacking journey through say, Iran or Yemen. I’m sure more discerning aoud fans would overlook Shisur, though that’s not to say it isn’t a quality fragrance. In fact, it’s beautiful, and could even, dare I say, rival the offerings by Tom Ford.
Now, as far as sillage and longevity are concerned, I can’t complain. I’ve been spritzing my sample of Shisur over the past couple of evenings and with a few sprays inside the elbows, it’s woody-spicy scent lingers round me for a good 6(ish) hours. Surprisingly, the fragrance is rather suited to summer evenings here in the mild UK climate, and takes me away to a land of wind and sand.
All in all, Shisur is a safe yet interesting, completely genderless fragrance. It’s perfect for those new to or apprehensive about aoud as it straddles the line between modern, mainstream oriental and something more niche and extraordinary. A very appealing take on the aoud trend and one of my favourite characters in Molton Brown’s Navigations Through Scent line.
Ps, I also really like the hint of caraway in this fragrance. I rarely see it in fragrances with aoud notes, yet it really works!

Having previously experimented with many of Molton Brown’s fragrance offerings I was somewhat sceptical about the ‘Navigations Through Scent’ line. However, it appears that with the increase in price for this particular line there has also been an increase in quality, thankfully.
My main bugbear with their standard fragrance lines were the poor longevity. Don’t get me wrong, they produce some lovely fragrances, but after an hour or two, they tend to disappear. I found that disappointing in contrast to the superior range of bath and toiletry products they are famous for.
Anyways, I’ll get to the point, if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, that is captivating, sensual and very well composed with great longevity, you would do well to try out ‘Shisur’.
I sprayed twice on my left wrist because I expected the projection and longevity to be weak, however, the eau de parfam formulation really does project. I had a steady series of compliments all afternoon from my colleagues of both sexes. Definitely a great find in my opinion!

Very privileged to be the first one to comment on this fragrance, shocked in fact! I have been a huge Molton Brown fan for a number of years and I have tried the whole of their mens/unisex fragrances. Whilst some of the Navigations Through Scents have been a bit hit and miss, including poor longevity for the prices, when its a hit, like Shisur, it is spot on! It is such a beautiful, smoky, sensual and elegant fragrance. The oud is very subtle, unlike so many others on the market where it can be very overpowering. I cannot recommend this fragrance enough. It is definitely suited for both men and women, and you can tell a lot of thought and care was put in place to produce this heavenly juice. Longevity is amazing, lasts on me all day, and have yet to come across anyone who has disliked it. I get so many compliments from guys and girls , asking what I am wearing, and I am almost reluctant to tell them for my own selfish reasons I want to be one of the few that is wearing it! But being a huge MB fan I disclose the information and highly recommend people to go into a store and try the complete range and see what suits them best. Definitely will be buying another bottle when my current one finishes. It £90 for a 50ml bottle, but its uniqueness is worth every penny! Cannot wait to see what MB have in store for 2015!
