Description
Canadian design duo Dsquared ² presents the perfume pair Supercollection 2011 “Nature Always Wins” in February 2011. The pair consists of two fragrances: feminine She Wood Golden Light Wood and masculine He Wood Silver Wind Wood. Both of them are inspired by nature – by golden light and silver wind of Canadian landscapes, based on woody notes. Perfumer Daphne Bugey signed both of the compositions.
She Wood Golden Light Wood is a fresh, vivid and intense floral – woody fragrance. It opens with the golden notes of lemon, neroli and orange blossom, followed by the light heart of musk and heliotrope. The base is wooden, made of cedar, vetiver and amber.
The bottle is square in shape, decorated with light wood frame and gold letter engravings. The bottle’s stopper is trimmed with 19-karat gold, and the box shines in light – golden colors.
She Wood Golden Light Wood is available as 30 and 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

Well at first blast I thought “oh yeahhh..(yum!!)..here we go again, with another clean soapy white floral!!!”..which I love, and I love She Wood Golden Light Wood. Yes, it is a clean soapy white floral to my nose, on my skin, but imho, I can never have enough of those types of scents, especially in the heat and humidity of the Summer.
I do pick up a very slight woodiness at times on the dry down, but all in all, this is a clean soapy white floral for me. Definite like for me..aw heck, I went ahead and hit the “l❤️ve” tab!! Softer type of sillage and about 5 hours longevity. And yes, I did say I find clean soapy white floral as yummy..;)
❤️❤️
Talyan87 – :
It’s like standing on the beach, smelling the scent of sun cream in the air mixed with clean, vaguely salty skin. It’s incredible what heliotrope with citrus blossoms can do.
It’s soft and smooth, sits close to skin and in the dry down I get the cedar, if it’s there my skin usually finds it.
Very summery in the imagery it conjures for me, but I am unsure how it will fare in truly hot summer temperatures.
Both my husband and I enjoy it now, at the end of spring, we spray it when we go to bed.
It is a softer version of Kenzo Summer, I agree with the many other reviewers, but not as cloying as I remember the Kenzo to have been.
zheleznye – :
I love Fire Island so I was really happy to read Kristamb’s review saying She Wood Golden Light Wood smelled similar. Indeed, to my nose they are so similar that I would have troubles distinguishing between the two if I smelled them blindly. Comparing them for a day with one on each wrist I can detect some differences once they dry down, but those are only slight differences I don’t think I would have detected if I wasn’t trying so hard. And I also find longevity very impressive – after 8 hours it’s still going strong.
I have been wearing it a lot this spring and summer and I think I’ll use it in the winter too to bring back some summery feeling. The price is grat as well so I can spray freely without being too careful like with Bond.

Thank God I found this perfume to replace my favourite Summer by Kenzo – which is discontinued ! It’s almost the same- very warm mix of musk and florals ! Thank you, Fragrantica for the “reminds me of ” option ! 🙂
Tobius1978 – :
Very gentle, very calm, very cheerful, very 90’s Santa Monican suburban utopia kind of scent. This scent has an extreme potential to distill nostalgia as it feels just so soft, it is almost childlike or maternal.
Nice, round, comforting white floral-heliotrope combination.
Whatberh – :
First, I LOVE this perfume. Second, I tend to love perfumes that remind me of summer and beaches…hence, I have accumulated quite a few scents similar to this! Golden Light reminds me of my Bond No. 9 Fire Island perfume. It is essentially a scent similar to Bain de Soleil sunscreen! If you might like that, this could be a summer perfume for you! Most ladies probably aren’t seeking that sort of scent, but I love it! This is a great alternative to Bond No. 9’s Fire Island, as it is more affordable. I purchased a full, large bottle on Ebay for $37. A lot of people say the longevity isn’t good for Golden Light, but with me, it stays on my skin all day. It does wear close to the skin, but it doesn’t disappear!
semen2458 – :
This is an intriguing perfume on first Scent. It really does smell like expensive sunscreen on a yacht on the middle of the Mediterranean sea.Again this has no longevity and the bottle top still doesn’t work properly. The concept is brilliant and the bottle design is great but the execution is cheap and nasty and ultimately disappointing.
ggc – :
Well, I love Summer by Kenzo and in this one I find Summer by Kenzo – light. Very pleased. Don’t love it but like it alot! Golden Light Wood is a bit skinclose and I have to spray it on my skin after about 3 hours again.

I’d like to pick up a perfum to wear for my kids and husband in my house. Iwant it to be my signature, so they always remind me by that.
So, there must be sth to be worn in all seasons.
I want it to smell kind, as kind as mothers. I preffer mild scents. But longevity is important for me.
Now i need your help. Which one is better: she wood golden light wood by dsquared2 or play for her intense by givenchy?
nikolaypiter – :
Extremely Hideous Creepy light floral-honey scent. It’s almost alike a cheap air freshener.
Ulcelpgerrics – :
Warm, crispy yellow, fresh. Reminds me of luxuriously expensive sun cream, narcissus fields and fresh hay with dew on it. It’s the start of summer, bottled up.
zigmund – :
This is summer’s epitome!
Floral, fresh, woody an uplifting perfume to make your day happy and sunny!
My summer choice for this year! Lasts long on my skin even after a shower!
Reminds me a lot Summer by Kenzo!
I heard from the store’s lady that the company is going to discontinue it…
So sad if this is going to happen!
Alexcooler – :
Having just received Golden Light Wood as a birthday gift from a lovely Fragrantica friend (you know who you are!), I have to sing it’s praises!
I’m shocked not to see jasmine and violet among the notes… and amused to see that many other reviewers are looking for lost flower notes here, too (mimosa, freesia, honeysuckle, among others- this scent must be a real chameleon!)
Usually, orange blossom drowns out everything else on my skin, but that isn’t happening (yet)
There is a gorgeous juxtaposition between the softness of heliotrope and white blossoms and the sharpness of cedar and citrus that I find utterly enchanting-
If you are attracted to Alien but are wary of its intensity, especially for everyday use, I highly recommend this-
dimacik82 – :
Don’t know why but it smells like honey to me. I like the scent very much, first of all because it isn’t boring or tiring, secondly, it isn’t offensive, third, though i have read a lot of reviews here which claim its resemblance with other perfumes, to me it doesn’t smell like any other perfume i know, and, the last but not the least, it lasts forever, eg. I’ve sprayed it on me at about midday today, now it’s midnight and i still can hear it
Drag7891on – :
This was a blind buy because I heard it smells like Kenzo- Summer and I really love and miss that one. Its the best, we should ask Kenzo to do more of that!
That being said, I do like the She wood Golden Light, its sweet and nice, sits close to the skin, but I think it misses that oomph, that sensual sweet note that makes your head spin with Summer.
…
On a second opinion, although its a very quiet perfume and its sits very close to the skin, so its somehow very personal, the lasting power is very good, my husband says he can smell it even after I take a shower. and although i cant smell it on me, my co-workers said they can smell it and its very nice and comforting.
kogevnikov – :
I am very happy with this perfume,it is bright, clean at the beginning and the dry down is very very similar with Alien on my skin. This is the main reason I bought it although they have different notes both have that luxurious divine smell.
Ю_ЛЯ_ЛЯ – :
At first very fresh amalfi lemon opening , immidiately making me remember alien sunessence ( yellow one). Together with the other white flowers this is beautiful, even if I usually don’t like “white flower”scents as typical.
It softens and there is one sweet note, almost like sweet pea – wich usually is lovely in perfumes- here too, what is that maybe the neroli by itself…?
But why does it continue like an alien flanker at all, when here are no jasmin – strange. Sadly I can’t pick the heliotrope, wich I love and the musk is really soft, and together with a quite sharp vetiver this lingers on.
As it started so fresh It will be easy to pick, but not all can wear that vetiver.
The cedar / vetiver mix makes it a little sharp, so my personal opinion is that there should have been , some more soft cuddly musk and maybe some other soft woods to have finished this gem of.
I like it and I guess this can be a pick for the ones who finds almost any alien flanker, too strong.
I love this house and like this she wood flanker too, though it stands out a little from.the others and I personnally find
Velvet forest wood , clearer fresher and more interesting.
Also try Potion for her and male version from this great Canadian House !
Update : The vetiver kills this for me…got in swap- gone in swap !
pancer – :
My initial impression was like a few others have mentioned: suntan lotion. But give it some time and it develops in to…. classy and expensive suntan lotion!
ThunderStruk – :
Golden Light Wood is very pretty! It is fresh and all about the orange blossoms which are sweet and clean. It such a bright and cheerful scent, makes me happy every time I wear it. To me this is almost a soliflore, because of how prominent the orange blossoms are in this, but there is a touch of sweet cedar lingering in the background which helps with the lasting power. It’s a long lasting fragrance with a decent amount of projection for the first hour or so, but a little after that it lingers close to the skin. This would be an awesome fragrance to wear to a picnic. Makes me just want to be out in the sun relaxing in a cute summer dress, reading a book. Great for warmer day’s in the spring and summer, though I would wear it anyways when I’m in the mood for an uplifting fragrance. Its fun and cheerful :]
dok – :
despoina 1976, you’re so right in saying GOLDEN LIGHT WOOD smells a lot like summer by kenzo. To me, there’s a subtle difference, though. SUMMER is spicier and longer lasting on the skin.
Loperticks – :
I have got a bottle just this afternoon!!
I love this fragrance, I think that it is so warm and sexy, and clean and fresh in a good way at the same time!! I had smell it a month ago, and I was thinking of it every day since. I was so excited to get it until that moment!!! Love it!!
I love that the orange flower stays long, the woody notes are deep, it is perfect on my skin so fresh!!
kovalthuk – :
Sample review, thx A!
I’m gonna be short on this one… in the opening this smells like some kind of cleanser to me, not very appealing. But luckily this disappears within just a few minutes after which I definitely smell where everyone is coming from, saying this smells like Alien. I agree! And I love Alien as well… so I have to at least like this one! 🙂

I Just wanna help anyone that used to love SUMMER by KENZO!!!!I cannot find it anymore and this one reminds me of my Kenzo`s favourite parfume!
`SUMMER` is not listed above IN`REMINDS ME OF` list so i write it down here, hope that helps my friends!
Doorsscunny – :
This perfume is light and airy, and could develop into a lovely scent through the day. However, my initial reaction was such an intensely vivid impression of standing in a Chinese antiques store after having spent a long day on the beach or poolside.
There is something reminiscent of sunscreen that’s been baked onto skin, a somewhat chlorine-like watery feeling, and a warm and slightly musty orange scent, all atop a light woody scent. Maybe even a rosewood scent.
Definitely has some interesting and unique characteristics, but the vision it conjured for me was so strange, and so intense, that I had to do away with the trial spritz quickly. Now I wish I had let it sit and develop further.
uterwer1988 – :
Sometimes it smells like Alien Sunessence.
Sometimes it smells like MaDame, but without that soapy scent.
Sometimes it makes me “remember” Summer by Kenzo.
The combination of white flowers, wood and musk is amazing!
Uplifting, classy and sunny scent!
ksn684speagoessenda – :
I have been quite pleasantly surprised by Dsquared SHE WOOD GOLDEN LIGHT WOOD. While I like the original SHE WOOD, this flanker is somehow better. The orange blossom smells clean and fresh and airy. It’s also watery, just like its namesake–along with lots of other light florals (especially violet!) created in that same mold these days–but somehow the whole production smells more natural to me. There is less wood and more flower here, so I feel a bit like walking on clouds with a light mist of tiny drops hanging in the air all about me.
I believe that GOLDEN LIGHT WOOD was a limited edition, but I can recommend Prada INFUSION DE FLEUR D’ORANGER as the closest among the orange blossom compositions I’ve tried to date. There is one pretty big difference, though: the Prada is rather soapy, while the Dsquared is not. I’ve been on an orange blossom journey lately and these two have ended up being my favorites. I find them uplifting but not very citric, so they seem more like perfume than cologne, despite the more common use of orange blossom in the latter.
vivisko – :
I smell Jasmin and Sandal wood once it sits on my skin. Huh.
Love it, either way. From packaging to the scent. I feel so natural and earthy when I have this on me. 🙂
easenueBult – :
Not bad, especially for those who enjoy white florals. White florals are either love or hate for me, but this is quite pleasant. If i come across a pleasant white floral it associates with innocence, rich weddings and childhood summers.
It is a likable white floral scent but it seriously reminds me of L’air du temps and Eau de Giorgio — very very similar to this one which i already own.
Overall, nice, classy but not for me, i rather sniff a white floral scent on someone other than myself.
pro-gamer – :
This just makes me so incredibly happy.
Lush, exuberant, it’s like standing in a deep leafy forest, sunlight filtering through….
Amazing staying power on me, I can still pick up the heart notes after more than eight hours.
Also lingers a good 13h+ on clothes. A plus!
fkctmiornf – :
I spray on my wrist, close my eyes and smell….
I feel the sun on my skin and a little breeze is cooling me, i hear the waves as i’m lying at the beach drinking malibu/pineapple…
And that’s everything i need!
That is what Golden Light Wood is all about for me!
And that’s why i love it!
Виталькинс – :
Knowing the previous three She Woods, I wanted to try the fourth female one.
So I managed to get a sample.
Uhm…
Actually I’m surprised I don’t see any mimosa listed. I don’t know Alien Sunessence, but in my opinion Golden Light Wood after 1 hour and more becomes much like Kenzo, Summer by Kenzo. Maybe what comes from the ingredients becomes mimos-ish? 🙂 Really, it’s a more pleasant Summer by Kenzo, easier to wear.
Beginning is gold and yellow and quite close to skin, it becomes more powerful after an hour – and even a bit powdery. Beginning is like a staying in a summer forest on a forest glade. Sunny, warm, juicy, even a touch of a green that’s young and becomes more mature.
The fragrance is nice but unfortunately nothing new, because Kenzo jumped into my mind quickly 😉 It is different than the three She Woods but recognisable as coming from the same family. Too expensive in my country.
After a few hours it reminds me a bit of Crystal Creek Wood…
Fragrance: 3,9/5
Sillage: 3,9/5
Lasting power: 4/5
Bottle: 4,5/5

Normally, Floral Woody Musks would have me running for the hills but this one is nice. It doesn’t smell overly synthetic and fruity like a lot of them do and it actually reminds me very much of summer because it smells a bit like sunscreen.
m4yers – :
It’s a nice and fresh orange blossom scent, something along the line with Miss Dior Chere L’eau. Actually, it’s difficult for me to say whether I smell more orange blossom or neroli – they do smell alike to me. It does have a pleasant cedar note + a 1/2 teaspoon of light honey(or something, like that). It’s not very original, but also not too bad. Perfect for springtime!
alex008007 – :
On me this smells exactly like The Body Shop’s “Elderflower Water” which I loved in the 90s. “She Wood Golden Light has a lot more staying Power.
nadyanadya – :
Love it so much, different kind of fragrance.
Sweet, soft and classic. An aroma for day-dreaming.
mazzy – :
This is a pleasant scent which seems aimed at pleasing the mainstream buyer to me. It’s, in a way, the usual acidic thin fruity floral but does have a much warmer vibe to it and more interest than most in its class. I think that Daphne Bugey has come up with interesting ideas in all the D Squared perfumes that she’s formulated which aren’t executed to their highest potential due to budget restrictions. I get what she’s trying to do but I won’t be paying for it.
lan1560 – :
sun in a bottle. what wonderful, classy scent. not sweet at all unlike others, more woodsy! love
sheet2006 – :
Tried it on a strip and then returned to try it on skin; it was nice enough, a lime and spice opening, drying down to a light powdery spice. Not heavy, fairly easy to wear…but not sufficiently inspiring to be worth a bottle for me.
warezhole – :
I’ve tested this today, for a second time.
IMO it is almost identical to Nina Ricci Premier Jour Lucky Day, only this one is much more ‘woody’, in Lucky Day one can smell the apple and it’s sweeter. But their resemblance is striking!
I will buy it as soon as possible, but for now I’m more into my new perfumes (they are more floral and I feel I want to enjoy them for now).
For me the wood scent is strong and distinctive.
sxscxtziokt – :
I only tested it on paper today and didn’t find it uninteresting. I guess I’ll have to retest it on my skin. It’s different from the original She Wood and smells more like a classic. I didn’t feel like it’s a must-have, but at least I woukd re-try it.
PS: I retried it and found it to be a rather soft scent. Like sun on your skin. On me it had a rather aquatic staying power and also reminded a bit of Nina Ricci L’air du temps. The lasting power on me was rather weak, around 3-4 hours.
octavix – :
I’m in love with this perfume i just have to have it! it’s very similiar to Alien, just that alien is deeper… Everyone who likes Alien should try this!
Levor – :
after spraying it on skin I can smell loads of orange flower with a honey note to it. It is fresh in te beginning but then it gets warmer and a bit woody. The orange flower stays prominent. Will test it again to get a better impresion of the developing
rad921 – :
It has a little similarity with Alien but i think a bigger one in the dry down with Organza by Givenchy. It smells little nutty to me.
Sanekt – :
I must agree with AmberLove that this exciting fragrance smells exactly like Alien edp of Thierry Mugler. Maybe is more similiar to Alien Sunessence (the summer edition). After all i really love the scent. The staying power is great!
bybblik – :
Definitely different to all the earlier “She Wood”.
“Golden” is more cheerful and sparkling comparable to the others – less woody and more to the floral side without being too flowery.
Easy to like.
Great for spring.
Longevity: average
Tolaalegmet – :
Have tested this today and I like it!
I has a very familiar sent, first I got fresh flowers like freesia or honeysuckle…very strange that such flowers are not listed, maybe it has to do purely with my perception. After the drydown this scent is just like Alien by TM on my skin. I know its strange since this has very different notes. I find it very different from She Wood which I love as well. This is a very fresh scent wich turns into a luxurious seductive smell. It has average stayingpower. But very nice!!!
