Description
Shantara is a perfume house from Switzerland which prefers high quality essences, nature and environment consciousness, with strong influence of tradition, quality and criterion which they want to push forward with their concept. They have presented a perfume pair so far – edition for women Reve Etoile (Star Dream) launched in 2008 and its masculine companion, Shaman, introduced recently, in 2009.
Each detail of these two perfumes is carefully designed. Ingredients are organic, package does not contain cellophane or materials with negative effect on the environment, and they can be recycled. Producers from the house of Shantara put great effort to set criteria in modern age, while having on mind spiritual values and spirituality brought by the compositions.
Design of the flacon represents sacred, cupola-like, polished gem, as a beautifully shaped, clean drop of water which is like spiritual guideline taking us to the sky like spiritual purification. Famous and rewarded calligrapher Jigme Douche worked on flacon design.
The new fragrance for men is Shaman. It arrives in a green flacon shaped like the edition for women. It was introduced in 2009. Its aromas enrich spirit and return you to nature. Top notes bring freshness of lemon and opulence of lavender, along with precious cedar in a heart touched with spicy accords of cloves decorated with ylang-ylang, delicate exotic flower, sweeter than ever. Spiritual journey and search after the essence of life finishes with sage, sandalwood and creamy vanilla.
The fragrance in a green flacon is available as 50 ml EDT. Just like the feminine edition, the fragrance is based on 98% of organic ingredients. The flacon and its outer carton are made of environment-friendly materials. Cellophane is not used.

Shantara SHAMAN is an earthy green perfume to my nose, somewhere in the neighborhood of Chanel no. 19, but quite a bit less intense. Brownish greenness abounds in this composition and although sage may account for the darkness, I strongly suspect that there is a leather note here too. Once again I am somewhat confounded by the professed category and gender. SHAMAN is a rich, deep, earthy perfume which could easily be worn by women–in fact, quite a bit more easily than No. 19, it seems to me.
As far as the gents are concerned, I think that SHAMAN would make an excellent alternative to the Creed greens, for those who find them too Irish Spring-like or, let us say, something other than the fresh breath of nature… SHAMAN is a walk through a dark, damp forest at dawn. The quality of the notes is as it should be for niche, and although I think that all three of Shantara’s creations to date are unisex, and the categories are all misassigned, the compositions themselves are both well-balanced and appealing. Definitely a house worth checking out.

Holy green Batman!! This is really what the advertisement would smell like if you were there, in the middle of a forest, under the green canopy with trees, vines and wildflowers and fresh herbs all around you…
The bright amalfi lemon smoothness joins with the clear and fresh lavender to create something absolutely clean, fresh and earthy-without any aquatic airs or generic caloney-ness. Amazing! The heart takes the richness of cedar (wood and leaves/needles) and combines it with sensual and sweet ylang and warm smooth cloves; unique, strange and familiar all at once. The drydown of dry herbal sage and sandalwood’s sweet aroma is breathtaking and the vanilla is smooth and sexy; and not one bit heavy or extract-y smelling…it adds to the natural feel instead of taking away with its normally rich and gourmand scent. This is how one would smell after returning from a vision-quest in the forest for days and I find it absolutely remakable…
Sillage: very good
Longevity: above average
Overall: 4.5/5
If you want something natural, manly and green smelling…this is IT!! I can’t imagine anyone (man or woman) not liking this scent; unless of course you are allergic to grass, flowers or things like that. This has something from just about all the facets of nature and blends them so wonderfully. I have never smelled an aromatic woody spicy floral green like this-a must try!
