Well, I own this Shalimar, but I really don’t know what to do with it.. If anyone want to swap/exchange inside EU, and near, let me know!)

This is the perfect Shalimar for those who maybe do not love Shalimar, for a man that wants to wear a masculine Shalimar, or a woman that wants a not as feminine Shalimar.
    Quintessentially French; classic and timeless.
Citrus, lemon, vanilla and a hint of powdery musk!
I have always appreciated & respected Shalimar, but it has never been a “love” for me. The Parfum kills me dead. The eau de Parfum is still too much and the eau de Toilette “better”, but still too cloying for my tastes. The eau de Cologne is perfect. This is Shalimar for a man, but strong enough for a woman!

So much better than the original edp 🙂 This is how Shalimar used to smell, before all the reformulations.
Staying power is just not as long as the edp, but on clothes it stays for long.

I have a vintage bottle of this fragrance that was gifted to me. It is 95% full and has been stored in a cool and dark room. Although I appreciate its complexity, it is not a fragrance I can see myself wearing. If anyone is interested in trading for another fragrance, let me know 🙂

Beast mode sexiness. Sultry, Smokey, leathery, incense, and much more. Love all my Shalimars. You can’t go wrong ever!

Shalimar Eau de Cologne is a sexy, sultry beast of a fragrance. I rarely wear this anymore because I rarely feel the need to but when I do, it’s usually for those third dates, if you get what I mean. There is nothing innocent about this scent and I find that perfect for those experiences. Something in this reminds me of the equally sultry booziness of Dana’s Tabu. It’s a lovely leather and vanillary bergamot. Truly stunning. My absolute favourite of the Shalimar renditions.

The current EDC – Lemony vanilla meringue with incense. None of that harsh petrol smell that’s in some formulations. Lovely and light. Still vaguely Shalimar(ish). I do really like it, BUT, unless you’re happy with a fragrance fading away completely within 2 hours or less, it’s likely to be frustrating. And frustration makes me like it less. Yes, I realise that it’s only a cologne, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy. 😛 Having said that, when I sprayed it on before bed, I could still smell it faintly in the morning.
Considering that all versions of Shalimar I’ve tried either don’t last very long, or have some note that I really don’t like, or don’t smell right in the case of vintage bottles, or all of the above – I STILL don’t have a single bottle of Shalimar that I’m completely happy with. AAAARGGH!!

I purchased a really old watch Flacon of the edc. The bottle is really old I’m thinking from my research to the 50’s or 60’s it could be older not sure point being it’s just as delicious if not more than my 2012 edp. The bergamot in this sparkles! So does all the citrus in this it’s not strong in the leather note more vanilla and I do smell a light floral too. It turns into an incense like yummy skin scent. And I found this bottle on a lark super cheap I just went on juice colour and compared to the current edc this is as dark as my edp! Point being I love the edc and I thought I wouldn’t. I just figured I’d share my story of the watch Flacon with the glass stopper and red dot. It smells heavenly!

    this is the best !
better than the nowadays edt and edp
    cuz they are too powdery
this one’s not that powdery and focuses more on the leather and incense
i can smell rich vanilla and incense here
the leather is not that strong , which is just perfect
i haven’t smell the vintage shalimar
but i love this version the most now
    so sexy and beautiful
    in a vintage way
    but also not outdated

I love Shalimar edc. I’ve been wearing it for decades, and I will continue until I can no longer find it, which will be tragic. The cologne and the parfum, the two extreme ends of the line, are my favorite formulations. It’s quite intense on drying down, and it is long lasting. Guerlain used to make exceptional eau de cologne versions of their classic fragrances. I miss those. My skin is dry in winter, so I wear this over unscented lotion and it lasts forever. To my nose, the cologne is peppery and smoky, maybe a whiff of leather. Men could wear this easily, too. Everything about Shalimar is delicious and exotic to me, even though it’s pretty commonplace. If I didn’t have a history with Shalimar I probably wouldn’t fall for it today but, as I do, and as I love Oriental fantasies & daydreams of times past, I never want to be without it. It’s in my personal top ten, maybe top five, favorite fragrances of all time. Highly evocative, as all the classic Guerlains are.

Because this is the cologne of Shalimar parfum this is easier to wear for me I splash it on me not spray it I buy it and make it into a splash cologne I like to bathe in this beautiful Oriental vanilla smell at first of citrus mandarin orange and lemon very sharp and sour but then sweet with flower of iris to me the iris is the big flower here only smell a little jasmine and rose the iris body is powdery so this is soft and powdery then turns smoky dark with vanilla and incense warm and spicy woody musky the musk is so nice clean and perfect for after a shower or bath and good for wearing to bed or to anywhere you go clean and great smelling long lasting parfum Shalimar is my new favorite

Love me some SHALIMAR! Mine is a 1997 EDC. It has a clear frosted cap with the name Guerlain Paris and it’s the 1990’s style bottle. It’s a reusable spray 2.5 ounce and the batch number is SN o1P. You can go to guerlain perfumes.blogspot.com to see when your batch was made if interested. This version is really powdery in the first 45 minutes or so but settles down and the powder isn’t nearly as strong. The only drawback is that the cologne only lasts about three or fours and you need to reapply. Extract even better but that stuff is so expensive. I remember having a very small bottle of this in the 80’s. THAT STUFF IS REALLY GOOD!!! You can’t go wrong with Shalimar. It’s been around since 1925 and people are still buying and loving it today. That should tell you something right there! This is hand down my husbands most favorite fragrance of all time.

Leather..! Beautiful, glorious, strong leather with citrus splashes here and there to keep it invigorating. What a scent!
Bold and beautiful. Male or female, if you want a fresh and gorgeous leather fragrance, this is one for you to look into.. This is the first of any shalimar product ive tried, and I am very, very, impressed.

A beautiful, powdery, accessible Shalimar, very wearable. Quiet silage, lasts about 3-4 hours, dries down to a gorgeous vanilla brûlée. You have to press your nose into your skin to detect it, but it makes your eyes roll back in your head in ecstasy. So comforting, I reach for it often. It’s light enough to wear on warm days and nights.

Shalimar Eau de Cologne is probably one of my favourite incarnations of the classic scent. Or, should I say, one of my favourite original versions of the scent.
Shalimar EDC is, for all intents and purposes, one of the closest to the original versions that you’re going to get. Both the EdT and the EdP are great in their own rights, but they’ve changed as they’ve become more popular with the younger crowd.
The EDC still keeps that smooth bourbon vanilla, that dirty leather and the smooth citrus that reminds you perhaps of a cleaning product.
This one is just the most sexual of the three, without a doubt. It beckons gentleman into it’s quarters and seduces them, it dances around the gardens in white billowing gowns. It embodies the true spirit of Shalimar: sensuality, unabashed sexuality, the class to keep it only slightly showing but the allure to pull a man in.
A man can wear this and, as a man, I still feel like this. Is that strange? Probably, but I don’t care. It makes one feel like royalty, but also like a working class person who wants to go out and party. It’s a flapper, it’s a princess. It’s dapper, it’s priceless. One cannot describe the magic of this subdued beast.

    Shalimar EDC 1983 (6 ounce, donut-shaped bottle).
This is an exquisite rendition of Shalimar; the leather in this concentration is more prominent, along with the trademark Guerlinade vanilla.
I can’t add to any of the positive, glowing reviews already brilliantly articulated here other than to agree that they are all spot-on and true. In every concentration, Shalimar is an absolute *masterpiece*. I could no sooner articulate an adequate critique of the Mona Lisa other than to say, “It’s the MONA LISA.”
It’s SHALIMAR. And I’m madly in love with it.

The Eau de Cologne is absolutely gorgeous! I’ve not yet had the pleasure of purchasing the vintage version, but mine straight from the drugstore is simply perfect. This is one of my top 3 favorites, if not my favorite… and I have quite a few. This can be layered beautifully with other frags. I like one spritz Tabu, a couple spritzes Shalimar, and a spray or two of VS Angel. Oh my gosh! Lasts all night and attracts the guys, all ages.
I could not, would not be without this fragrance! It’s so warm and comforting, helps me sleep– just a dear, precious best friend of a fragrance!

Shalimars (EDT, EDP, EDC…) DO SMELL like 1980’s original Cabbage Patch Kid dolls!!! ABSOLUTELY! And I had one of those, being born in 1980 and getting one around 1985/86.
    LOL!
I love Shalimar. It’s my #1 scent after about 400 bottles I’ve collected over the years. 😉

I’m currently addicted to Shalimar, so far I have the Eau De cologne, Eau De toilette and Eau de Parfum.
I really like the cologne as the citrus notes sing. They’re short lived , sadly, as they always are on me, in most everything, but… it’s really beautiful.
After the bergamot fades the vanilla and leather really amp up. Let me say that leather is not a note I tend to go for. It can be headachey and make me nauseous. In Shalimar I love it. The Eau De cologne is probably the loudest of the three I own, but perfect in strength. I find the Eau De Parfum is very much more incensey and smokey and while ‘stronger’, sit closer to the skin. I like the Eau De cologne on my sheets as well as me. I’m probably committing some cardinal sin but I have tried the vintage Parfum, and I prefer the weaker concentrations. Each to their own though!
Sadly my eldest daughter and my OH don’t get Shalimar, they’re of the old lady camp. My youngest son seems to like it, he seems to associate it with me.
I have soufflé on order now, I can’t wait!

Shalimar cologne for women? Who says that? This is UNISEX and males can rock it too. This is a commercial success for the house of Guerlain, as it bares the Shalimar name. Since 1925, Shalimar has made it into the modern age as a fragrance that is still relevant! How awesome is that? Very few frags from the 20’s would have been able to make it this far ahead in time. The cologne is not the parfum which means the concentration is lighter. As such one would imagine it is more powdery but for me it is not. This version of Shalimar has the same notes as the original formula from the eau de parfum: citrus top consisting of bergamot orange oil extract, mandarin orange peel, lemon, and citruses, a floral heart of rose, jasmine and iris, a base and dry down of vanilla, sandalwood, cedar wood, patchouli, benzoin, opoponax, musk, vetiver, balsamic notes and incense. The Shalimar formula!
But now wait a minute. Why would one want to purchase this cologne (a weaker concentration) if it’s the same as the parfum? Simple answer. This is a much more enjoyable relaxing and soothing scent. It’s not too powdery because everything has a powerful oomph about it keeping it from becoming boring old dusting powder. This has some powder notes courtesy of iris and vanilla which can turn powdery along with musk that can also turn powdery but never for one moment did I experience anything overtly feminine and powdery like grandma’s talc powder on her dressing table back in upstate New York when I was a kid. Whereas some might call this soft, I call it subtle. The projection is much smaller and it is comforting like a little bow tie or a little scarf. The scent is deceptively simple and quite sweet as opposed to the smoky and balsamic patchouli bomb that is the Oriental classic original. Here we have a more relaxed dreamy vanilla haze. The florals come and go and it smells of a rose before turning into a woodsy and slightly green herbal scent. I picked up on the patchouli leaves and the vetiver not to mention the woodsy notes. Sandalwood reigns supreme here and the cedar matches up with the vanilla. The notes harmonize perfectly and are not vying for your nasal attention. This is delicate and light, casual. A vanilla based frag for the vanilla lover in all of us.
This is a citrusy vanilla dream come true. The scent lingers for hours but only you can detect it and I have trouble getting others to notice it. Eau de Cologne Shalimar is suited to the dress shirt, the semi formal look, a plaid shirt, slacks, jeans, but can be flexible and smells like a tux or a suit and tie. The whole thing has a familiar aroma of rather a collection of scents that we all appreciate and enjoy in our daily life: citrus, florals, woods, vanilla and a puff of incense and green vetiver moss. The Oriental bite is gone but in it’s place is a modern therapeutic vanilla powder and delicious orangey wood scent to leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. Great office/work scent, any day any place any season. Male and female. Young and old.

As far as the connection between Coty Emeraude and Shalimar goes, I never quite got it until I tried the Cologne formulation. If you’ve smelled Emeraude, but not this formulation and you like the idea of a leathery Emeraude-ish scent with an tiny added sprinkle of lemon, then you should definitely try this.

I’m reviewing the bottle pictured, made for the USA market, but not easily obtained in the UK. I am an Iris lover and the smokiness of this Eau de Cologne is more in keeping with a masculine iris treatment. It’s a boudoir scent, a little animalic due to the suggestion of leather. I layer this with Eau de Shalimar to amp up the lime/citurs nuances. There is a new Shalimar cologne which I am led to understand is very close to Eau de Shalimar and then there’s Souffle which is a brighter more effervescent Eau de Cologne. It’s a game, always trying to find a new market with a new name, but they dare not stuff it up too much. A bit of discipline is required to find your Shalimar, to test and retest, allowing time for the development of the fragrance.

I am wondering if I received a “bad” bottle. This does not smell light or citrusy. I get a distinct burnt rubber smell that is practically intolerable. It’s very dry and the rubber smell lasts a long time. I do not like this. Just goes to show you can not go by what so many on Fragrantica think is the “cat’s pajamas” because I have been mislead when it comes to fragrance suggestions many times. I will stick to Shalimar Parfum Initial as it is my favorite for winter months. Luckily, I was able to spray this over the horrible Eau de Cologne today. Blech.

A few months ago, I’d posted a review of 1980’s SHALIMAR cologne, but I recently purchased the current formulation (having found a sale I couldn’t resist). To be honest, I’d been uncertain about purchasing a current version of SHALIMAR, but I’m happy to report that whatever changes have been made, it’s still essentially itself. The current one maintains the depth, richness and intensity of the fragrance. The wonderful nuances are all there. I’d also been concerned that the new version would be vanilla-dominant per the reviewer votes, but it isn’t on me. Don’t get me wrong – I like vanilla and I have several vanilla-dominant fragrances, but as I didn’t find SHALIMAR to be vanilla-dominant before, I didn’t want to find it that way now.
By comparison with the older version, the current cologne is significantly more aromatic while the older one is much more powdery. In terms of sillage, the new one is somewhat softer than the ‘80’s cologne, although it’s still quite strong, especially by today’s standards. One or two sprays will do it and the longevity is excellent.
Although this fragrance is so instantly recognizable, it’s one that I never find boring. It’s also surprisingly versatile and these days has become easier to find at accessible prices. (My new EDC has the batch code 4Z01, manufactured December 2014.)

This is glorious. I hadn’t reached for my bottle during the summer. Tried wearing it once a couple of weeks ago while the weather was still summery and I got an unpleasant oily vibe from it (maybe that gasoline feel that people talk about with the more classic Shalimar versions?). I received a bottle of Eau de Shalimar in a swap and started wearing it immediately…and it made me crave this! Now the weather has taken a turn for the worse, and we are having cold, rainy, dreary days, and this is perfect. I mostly get a heavenly vanilla, not at all sweet, totally realistic, like a vanilla bean pod. In love. This makes me think that I will need to test the edp and edt for colder weather and special occasions!

This is the more edgy of the Shalimar flankers, men wanting to try Shalimar should reach for this version. This is the perfect Shalimar for me. Less powder, more of the interesting notes. The dry down is the most beautiful compared to the other Shalimar’s I have tried. Leathery vanilla on the edge. This one is pure magic.

This is it, I’ve found my Shalimar! The EDP and EDT I tested several times and, while they are perfectly nice citrusy, powdery vanilla scents, I just didn’t find them at all special enough to warrant the hype. THIS is what I wanted/expected Shalimar to be. To my nose, the leather and incense are far too hidden in both the EDP and EDT; here, they are Present with a capital P. The EDC oozes old-fashioned complexity. It’s delicious, mysterious, easily unisex. Smells like the gorgeous offspring of Emeraude and Ciara and has my favorite-ever opening blast. If you find Shalimar EDP and EDT to be kind of “meh,” try this… It’s criminally underrated, and wallet-friendly to boot.

Shalimar EDP with a heavy dose of leather and bergamot, and the vanilla is a bit drier, more like that in Jicky. The EDP is more femme fatale, this is the unisex (or just less overtly sexual) Shalimar. Though it’s far more leathery, it’s less “skanky” animalic. Men who like Shalimar but are unsure about wearing it and/or women who like Shalimar but find it cloying, overbearing, or too sweet will probably enjoy this version. It also smells more vintage, maybe it’s been through less reformulations. It’s as powdery as an form of Shalimar, but in a different way. A little less “makeup table” and a little more “barbershop”. Eau de cologne is perfectly apt in this case, I don’t love it as much as the EDP on myself, but I could see this on a man (it’s great on women too, I just prefer my Shalimar to be more on the cloying femme fatale side).

Shalimar is wildly popular. It’s been around for a long, long time, actually in a few years’ time it will celebrate its 100th birthday. It’s a perfume for women…But I don’t care about any of this.
What I care about is the fragrance. And this fragrance is everything i love about fragrances. Wearing it is transcending. Having it is a must. Art at its best – evocative, beautiful, inspiring and above all human. Shalimar naturally enhances my skin smell, it never feels external, it becomes a part of me the moment i spray it.
This fragrance capitalizes on all that is great in art – it’s a mentor, no, a demiurge, an example to follow. To say that it skillfully plays with all that is beautiful about smell is an understatement. That citrusy-vanilla-animalic blend is exceptional. I love it in Jicky, I love it in Mouchoir de Monsieur, but them i wear when i feel dirty. In Shalimar it is pure, it is joyful, it’s …life. It is organic, Guerlain just captured it in all its beauty, and was kind enough to pass it to us.
So the best i could do (besides giving my money, but that’s not the point really) in return is this little humble eulogy of mine.

I’m wearing Bvlgari man extreme which is a citrus blast at the opening that can be layered down to something more interesting with Shalimar cologne it worked pretty nicely, got good complements today with that mix.

The sophisticated Eau de Cologne is my favourite interpretation of Shalimar so far. It’s such a beautiful scent. The cologne begins with a fizzy citrus and soft pillows of powder, that reminds me of the tang of lemon sherbet on the tongue, and what I think is the combination of iris, lemon and vanilla. This morphs into a soft leather, that’s slightly smoky from the incense and supported by a woodsy-musk background.
This perfume is much more minimalist than Shalimar, which was too much for me, and here there is less powder, less balsams, less citrus and less vanilla. It has a classic, yet elegant feel; never too stuffy or old-fashioned, with a lighter and graceful sort of character. I find it charming and beautifully blended.
I’m actually really surprised that I enjoyed this so much, as I’m not a Guerlain girl by any means, but this is the best Guerlain on my skin so far! I think that I prefer the lighter Guerlains. I could definitely see a mini in my future to experiment with and I also think that the vintage would be worthwhile seeking out. Soft to moderate sillage; longevity is for about 9-10 hours.

I went to a moving sale yesterday and was lucky enough to find a virtually unused 1980’s bottle of SHALIMAR eau de cologne (2.5 oz spray) for $2. It’s a lovely fragrance: powdery, aromatic, spicy and warm. On me, the dominant notes are the incense, iris and patchouli rather than the vanilla indicated by most reviewers – presumably due to this particular formulation. (I don’t have the current one, so can’t compare them.) After a couple of hours, I start picking up the bergamot and a hint of the lemon. The sandalwood comes through later.
This EDC is significantly softer and less aromatic than the approximately 15 year old bottle of EDT that I save “for special,” but even so, the sillage is moderate and one or two sprays does it. Until now, I’d never thought of SHALIMAR as a summer fragrance, but although yesterday was steamy, this EDC was appropriate for the temperature and not overpowering at all. Also, on me, most powdery fragrances lose their nuances in hot weather, but this didn’t. Longevity is excellent.

Yesssssss! It absolutely does have a cabbage patch scent to it ( or vice versa) what an extraordinary comparison! This is still one of my absolute favorite perfumes of all time and it wears like a parfum. No one I know likes this, which is a bummer, but I wear it anyway lol

  39. :

Opens with a gorgeous lemon/citrus accord and soft powder (I believe it to be a combination of iris and vanilla) reminiscent of a boudoir, before the vanilla intensifies and harmonises with the leather to emit a gorgeous, smokey aroma. This is absolutely stunning!
Also, a little irrelevant, but am I the only one that thinks this smells of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls from the 90s?!

OMG! What a beauty! Goes through several stages on skin, so Guerlain! The sillage and longevity are impressive but it is not as bold. If you are not ready for the Shalimar EDP yet then this one, the Cologne, is the way to go. This is so classic and classy! Gorgeous vanilla, leather and citruses. I do get the iris and rose at some stage of development, very close to L’Heure Bleue, I can even call it ‘the L’Heure Bleue stage’. The dry down is vanilla with a hint of rich buttery lipstick. Overall it is a very well done fragrance. Really high quality!

Happy happy happy! I have tried Shalimar EDP several times in department stores, and just didn’t like it. I recognized its quality and its legendary status but it was too heavy, too sweet, too strong, too old-fashioned. Every single time. Then I found Shalimar Eau de Cologne on sale for 24.99 at CVS, read the reviews here on my smartphone and thought, what the hell — let’s do this. So I did.
I love it! This version is just yummy without being sweet. I get the vanilla, I get the smoke, I get the cedar, I get the leather. Shalimar EDC is luscious but light. Classic but not stuffy. I am just so pleased with this. Thanks for the Fragrantica reviews that encouraged me to take the plunge!

I have the exact same bottle. This is so strong and definitely not for tight places. I an smell it on myself long after I applied it, and so can everybody in a 10 meter radius. Today I walked into a classroom and after a few seconds everybody asked what I was wearing. As much as I like it, it’s just way too sweet and overbearing. Not too powdery on me, absolutely zero citrus or fresh smell. This is a classic sweet balsamic scent.

I have all four concentrations of Shalimar – EDC, EDT, EDP and Parfum – and this might be my favorite for everyday wear. The EDT is a bit too loud, the EDP a bit too sweet, the Parfum a little too precious to waste with a t-shirt. The cologne has outrageously good staying power too…I have parfums that aren’t this legible at the end of the day.

  47. :

    3 out of 5

I think this is the version I tried… on a whim at the end of my mall-walk, just before the department store closed.
If so, I know that the original Shalimar would not be for me. This is already diva perfume. It’s luxurious, romantic, soft, sultry, and much more sophisticated than any of the “pop princess” stuff that’s out there — but I’m not ready for a mink coat and long cigarette holder. Or I’d need a lot of makeup to pull off that look. I’m not ready for La Scala.
This perfume is like a true diva — one of the top 3 best singers ever — who lived in another age. We have her precious records, we can listen to them again and again, but there will never be a new one, and the memories associated with those tunes will never change. It’s silver screen — great for special occasions but for me, old news, like “It’s a Wonderful Life” or “Casablanca.”
Also, it’s making my eyes sting. My husband says I smell like a pumpkin-spice-gingerbread holiday candle.
But wow, I finally tried Shalimar. There’s something in that. Shalimar will always be epic in one way or another. Here’s looking at you, kid.

Wow……I just bought it for the bottle because I like this particular bottle and thought it would be pretty in my collection. I am not a shalimar fan…….until today. The cologne version is BY FAR better to my nose than the edp or edt …I can’t even describe why I like it better. I am so pleased with my purchase
Update: I sprayed this at 9am….it is 6pm……edp of ANYTHING doesn’t stay this long on my skin. I am thoroughly impressed.

I adore Shalimar and it’s flankers so I knew this one would be a winner also. This is to me a slightly milder version of the original and can be worn all year round by both women and men.It has the trade mark Shalimar zing on application and morphs into one of my most favourite scents ever, it’s just beautiful 🙂

    “For women.” Bah.
Shalimar is unisex. I think the EDC actually leans to the masculine side, with its harsher opening and muskier, leather-draped drydown.
This fragrance is still smooth. This is the legend we’re talking about, after all. But the bite present here (compared to the EDT or EDP) makes this a personal favorite of mine for winding down at the end of a long day.
    Rock on, Guerlain.

I have a vintage bottle and all I can smell is benzoin. Has it turned?

If you don’t like the new formulations of the edp I would definitely recommend this. It is way cheaper and as far as I know the formula is either the same, or has not been messed with a great deal. LOVE it. That classic incensy vanilla that is Shalimar. Lasting power could be better though.

This is the only concentration or “make” of Shalimar I own and have tried. And I am utterly in love with it. It reminds me of the way some old books smell: the dry powdery vanilla and incense, the smoke and a pinch of spice. And then after three hours on my clothing, I start smelling sandalwood and baby powder. In a way it carries reminders of everything I love in life.
I would bathe in it, but that would be pointless, as my skin swallows up most fragrances and Shalimar ODC vanishes in minutes. So I spray it on my clothing and hair and do actually wear it more often than any other perfume I own.

I impulsively grabbed a 200ml vintage bottle of the Eau de Cologne on eBay tonight. Does anyone know the particular years that the Shalimar EDC was produced in the stopwatch bottles with the little cone-shaped cap? I’m hoping it was in the 60’s, but I have no idea for sure.

Smells very much like pipe tobacco and vanilla – I love it though. I imagine it was designed to suit the period when many people smoked – it seems to complement the smell of cigarette smoke (amazingly!). I love it although I am not a smoker but spend time with people who do!

Another wonderful bargain buy for me, $29.99 at CVS on sale. Shalimar EdC has been discontinued, but I’m sure Guerlain will have a flanker (or a flanker of a flanker) that will please me as much as this one when I need to fill the Shalimar slot in my collection.
Edit: My review above contains misinformation and I apologize. Shalimar EdC is still produced for the US market.

I’m wearing this today and am absolutely in love. I decided to go with the cheaper ‘lighter’ Shalimar to start with as I’d tested the edt and edp in store and detected a sharpness. I know, I know, I’m a chicken. But I wanted something that I could wear to the office and not offend my coworkers with (I have a coworker that HATES Mitsouko, so I’m Guerlain-shy at the office already!)
This is so gorgeous…I’m not even sure what I can say that hasn’t already been said. The opening is a bright, sweet citrus with the traditional “Guerlinade” accord that can be a turn off for some (personally, I love it). I *do* get hints of civet, which just makes this scent have more depth.
I’m about 5 hours in and it’s a warm smoky vanilla with some musk, benzoin, and opoponax to smooth it out. Those resins really give it a richness and a timelessness that I adore. I don’t get any hints of patch with this one (which I was eagerly looking for, as I love patchouli), but that’s ok because the smooth composition of this is just perfect as far as I’m concerned.
Right now I’m in smoky powdery rich vanilla heaven. Now I’m considering checking out both the edt and edp on my skin again, to see if they are also worth owning. But considering how inexpensive, rich, and longlasting this edc is, I’d say this one was worth starting with. 😀
