Just received a decant of this from Surrender to Chance last night. First impression is that this smells like a local Pho restaurant that I frequent on cold days. Odd, I know, but stick with me here….
– First Impression: This is strongly fronted by an industrial cleaner smell. I can’t put my finger on which exactly but having lived overseas and frequenting many international establishments, this is a familiar, clean smell that I also get when I walk into my local Pho establishment (Its the smell of newly mopped floors).
– Second Impression: There is a great deal of basil in the composition. This is the smell of freshly cut/torn basil, as the Pho location serves it in sprigs you tear of the stalk.
– Third Impression: Disappointment. While I love Pho, I don’t particularly like walking around smelling like it.
In summary, I don’t get the typical notes identified in the pyramid above, neither the Civet nor Patchouli but think what I am picking up is a combination of the Incense and Castoreum (since I get a slightly similar vibe to Caron’s Yatagan). With the scent pyramid I was expecting something more along the lines of Diaghilev or Roja but got neither.
Overall, I’m glad I tried this, but even more so I didn’t buy a full bottle.
