Description

Christina Aguilera has expanded her perfume collection with the new edition, which bears the name of Secret Potion. Secret Potion is described as a mysterious and erotic evening fragrance for women who like to be in the spotlight, whose beauty lies precisely in their strength and confidence.

The fragrance blends notes of exotic fruits and sensual flowers with warm oriental undertones. At the top, juicy notes of passion fruit, lemon and mandarin lead the way. Luscious white flowers of jasmine, orange blossom and lotus form the heart of the composition, while the base consists of musk, tonka bean, amber and dark ebony.

The bottle of distinctive feminine contours is designed to fit the theme of this sensual perfume. Each package contains the coat of arms featuring a small mirror medallion. Secret Potion is available as 50 ml Eau de Parfum.
Secret Potion was launched in 2011.

My mom bought me this perfume because it was cheap (something like 15$). reminds me of clean bed sheets and a fuity shampoo.

I had my bottle for 5€ in an Action store near Paris. I love this perfume, it reminds me of teenager perfumes. I smell citrus and vanilla, with jasmine and wood. It can be worn by everyone, even my mother for example. I’m sad because I heard it’s discontinued…

This perfume is my least favourite by Christina Aguilera, but still it has a nice smell.

I’m sorry but I didn’t like this perfume at all. All I could think of when I were it was that I smelled exactly like a fourteen year old girl smoking cigarettes with her older friends at a party. A very strong and sweet fragrance, not my kind of scent at all…
But if you like sweet fruity scents like Britney Spears Fantasy I think you like this one!

This is the best of all Aguilera´s perfumes. I got my first bottle for $5 and later gave it to my mother, because in my home country perfumes are ridiculously expensive. She really liked it and emptied the bottle really fast. And i´ve been missing Secret Potion since then. I will repurchase it, and i don´t do that with many fragrances, but this one is so nice! It is feminine, soft and sweet. The opening has this combination of orange and passion fruit that is really irresistible, and i normally don´t like passion fruit in perfumes but here it smells dessert-like. My husband says it smells like a bakery and i agree. I don´t get a tropical vibe with this one.
The opening fades rather quickly and then one is left with this creamy white flowers. Really elegant. A bit later, the opening notes come back again to join the white flowers. It is just so good.
Sillage and longevity are unfortunately not that great, like with all other aguilera´s fragrances but i do not mind having to reapply. This is just fabulous!

i can’t understand people saying that it doesn’t last very long
to me, it lasts for +6 hours which is GREAT!

Feminine. Floral but very fresh. The sillage I think is just right, non-offending. The ingredients have been combined in a super yummy way. I like this a lot!

yuuck, smells warm in not a good way, boring and like a million perfumes out there, doesnt last but is very in-your-face. just as strong as her other perfumes!
but i can imagine people loving this since its very likeable, fruity and romantic and warm BUT not a perfume for me i dont like it.
BUT i love that the spray on her perfumes is so small that you get a *dust* more than a spray!

I’ve been wanting this perfume for a few years, and finally have it. This perfume is very intoxicating to me. To me it’s the more fruity version of By Night. I wish her newer perfumes were easier to get. Secret Potion wasn’t even sold in the USA, which really doesn’t make sense, since Christina is from here. This is one of my favorite perfumes by her, but it’s too strong for me so I don’t wear it that much. I think you can wear this in the day, and night. I would wear it mainly in the fall, and winter. Because of how strong this perfume is, I give it a 8/10.

this is my new signature scent!
the passionfruit and the amber mix really well
together, it could be worn in the summer because of
the fruitieness, and it could be worn in the winter
because of the warmness of the amber in the base
very nice all year round fragrance.. i could wear this
night, day, anytime.. i love it !

This one smells so good. I definitely smell the mandarin and amber on me. Sweet, fruity and warm. I could wear this perfume all year round.

I love wearing this one at night and when going out. Preferably when the night is warm and summery. It wears wonderfully at a party while in close contact drinking. Once u hit the club it’s gone though. I love the heavyness of the sweet smell it almost is like a heavy candy with a fresh aroma that just lingers. But once the body heat acts up or you become too active this scent dies off. I could see this being great just in a close quarters party. Not a club scent but still feels and smells amazing on when out in a warm summer breeze.

oh my god, what i can say about this, its just the bad bad bad bad smell that i can experience in my life, when it comes from ebay i just put some in my arms and in 4h my head just hurs from the fragrance, its really bad, its pure passion fruit, nothing else, a really dry and sweet passio fruit that never leave you, never go away, its just stay there making you sick, im very very desapointed

Im usually a huge fan of christinas fragrances. Her original frag is my all time fave. I was disappointed with secret potion however. It smells likes cherry licorice and not in a good way (if there is such a thing as cherry licorice!?) even though cherry isnt listed in the notes. i dont get much citrus at all. It doesn’t have anything special about it, its also pretty weak and rather flat. It didn’t last long on my skin either. I wont be purchasing a bottle of this.

Of all her fragrances, I love By Night the most. This one is a no no for me, although I love sweet scents. Very much. But this one is way too artificial, and it smells to me like a super sweet citrusy detergent with some sugar spilled on it. Going to wash it off my wrist now.

  19. :

First it is a little too heavy fruity, the the drydown is gorgeous!

I mainly get passionfruit with a little lemon, after 1 hour there’s a hint of vanilla too. It lasts about 2-3 hours on me, but I can only smell it strongly for 1 hour, then it becomes a skin scent.
I really like it, but since it’s quite weak I probably wouldn’t buy it again.

  21. :

    5 out of 5

I don’t smell much fruit in this..I can mostly smell licorice and cotton candy and only a hint of passion fruit. Overall, I love the scent but it is weak..doesn’t seem to last long on my skin. Shame because it’s beautiful and musky when it dries down. It actually reminds me of this licorice ice-cream I used to eat as a kid 🙂 the scent is sweet, fun and a little bit bewitching.

After testing this fragrance in the store, I wrote on a piece of card that I had tested, ‘Sweet Potion’. Later, when I returned home I realised that this fragrance was actually called, Secret Potion. Thinking over it now, the name Sweet Potion is more of an apt description.
This fragrance is incredibly sweet and sugary. It’s not far off the cotton candy likes of Britney Spears Fantasy and Aquolina’s Pink Sugar. You really have to like sugary gourmands in order to enjoy Christina Aguilera’s Secret Potion.
The citrus notes, along with the passionfruit are present in Secret Potion, however they come coated in icing sugar. I find this fragrance’s sugary gourmand nature oddly pleasant, however smelling it constantly could result in a headache. It’s one of those fragrances that really should be applied with a light hand.
The heart introduces some vanillary aspects, with the tonka bean providing some warmth and dimension. Amber shines through in the drydown, however the candy sweetness can still be found.
Out of all the Christina Aguilera scents I’ve tried so far, this fragrance, and By Night would have to be my favourites. It’s a pity that these fragrances are often hard to come by.
Secret Potion’s sillage is quite intense, so I’d assume that it would be a huge compliment getter from those around you. The longevity was also surprisingly good, lasting around six hours on my skin. I recommend.

I got this perfume as a gift from my mom ,i don’t like it at all smells so sweet on me as sugar or cotton candy(in a disgusting way)can’t smell the citrus, white floral or the rest according to the Main Notes…

this is a funny one, because it is so different on people. On me it is GONE in 10 minutes – which is a shame because i feel i’ve only experienced the first impression -notes. I personally adore all of Christinas fragrances except this one. I reckon it’s bad chemestry since there are so many who love this and says it’s long-lasting. (but doesnt like her other fragrances…maybe there’s a pattern developing here.) With that being said i enjoyed it as a “sniff-it-from-the-bottle” type of fragrance – but to me it’s not sensual in any way but more fitting a teenager :)I guess you have to try it yourself to know for sure

Since I can tolerate her other perfume Royal Desire which is my first perfume, I decided to try her other perfumes.
This one starts out with fruity scent, but I can’t detect any citrus scent so I guess it’s passion fruit. Then after a while turns into floral scent, then final is musky scent.
This one is heavier than Royal Desire, so one spray on a wrist and it’s enough for me and it also last about 8 hours.

  26. :

    5 out of 5

This is a really soft fruity-sweet fragrance. I think it is pleasant because I don’t like sharp sweet smells but it doesn’t lat very long at all! It lasted an hour tops! Not happy at all.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

A very “dry” and synthetic smell. I don’t find any fruits or citruses.
    It’s not worthy at all.

  28. :

While my preference goes towards orientals, I would not classify this as one, it is way too light and carries no spice.
On my skin (and to my nose) I smell sweet flower / fruit scents and a slight bit of musk. But it is way too light and has no staying power – it is definitely a daytime frag for a young girl – but by no means for a mature woman.
An interesting find : just before that I tested Kate Moss “Vintage Muse”, and I think on my left arm the 2 scents mixed a little – the combination of that pair seem more than the sum of its components – try it out !!

I should’ve known it’s a no-go when I saw the bottle. Looks like a 12-year-old wannabe kid perfume. And unfortunately, this is also the way it smells.
I love Christina Aguilera’s perfumes and was excited to smell this one, but instead of taking this home with me, I took a new bottle of her first fragrance…

    Smells very sweet and fruity..:)
I love all of her perfumes, except inspire which is ok if your into floral scents.
Maderine Orange stands out the most.
    The bottle is really cute<3

@takeasniff Soo true! Some hve said this is like her past perfumes combined, which is very true. I feel the citrus is what makes this stand out from the rest though. (For anyone who deosn’t like citrus, Secret Potion may not be for you). I agree about the perfumes not lsting too long. They’re all light, esp. Royal Desire. LOL I’ve never tried them all that once. I want to try to see if they blend well. Sounds so fun.

    too citrus for me.

I just sprayed this on my hand today and did my shopping. It started off very citrusy and fresh as other reviewers have already said. It stayed on my skin better than her other perfumes. I have washed my hands and I can still smell it. It dried to a very plain smell. It reminds me a little of the playboy perfumes. Pleasant but nothing to really get excited about and hard to describe because it is very bland with everything sort of mixing together. It is not peachy powdery like her first one, it’s not chocolate like her By Night and there are no marshmellows like the Royal desire. The citrus is the most pronounced thing and difference between this and her previous editions. I like her pefumes and I wear all three all at once sometimes to strengthen the smell because they are so mild that it doesn’t really matter so I am not sure if I would bother with this. Once the citrus wears off you are left with the trade mark vanilla present in all her perfumes. If you don’t have any of her perfumes and would like to try then this one is a good start it is not dominated by anything in particular like her previous ones. I will eventually get it because I do like her perfumes for everyday wear but I am not rushing out to get it.
If you like Play it Rock by Playboy you may like this one. This one nothing becomes too strong in it. I felt her previous editions the sandalwood would become too strong in the end and the marshmallow in Royal Desire mixed with the powder became too plasticky. This one is a nice middle of the road for her range.

On first application the first note I smell is a citrus blend, with a undertone of a lightly powdered vanilla note. I’m surprised that I can’t smell any passion fruit – it is a strong and distinct scent in all of my other perfumes containing it.
The vanilla is strong enough to last throughout the whole fragrance [I think it may be the perfume’s interpretation of amber], so SECRET POTION remains sweet. I think that there must be rose in here, as something mixes with the vanilla and reminds me of Turkish Delights. Out of the listed floral notes only the jasmine stands out to me, everything else is lost in the sweet, powdery jumble.
There is no strong indication between the heart notes and the base, thanks to the ever-present vanilla. The undefined wood note mingles closely together with the vanilla and the developing musk, so it is a warm and creamy mix. It’s pleasant, but boring and too close to the skin.
The easiest way to describe SECRET POTION is as a mix of Christina Aguilera, By Night and Royal Desire; It combines the fresh fruits of her first release with the soft, warm, oriental feel and quiet floral notes of her last two releases. As it is basically a mash-up of her previous editions, there isn’t really much else to say for this edition, I’m just repeating myself in all honesty.
Overall; I think that this a better blend then her self named release; the watery Christina Aguilera, but the florals are more underdeveloped then those in By Night and Royal Desire. Out of all of the Proctor and Gamble/Christina Aguilera perfumes I think that By Night is the one that is worth trying, SECRET POTION is just an imitation of a imitation.

I was expecting something a little bit more unique than this. It smells like a million other perfumes out there. It’s nice, but it’s just so similar to everything else.

    I must admit – it’s not bad!
    It actually smells quite lovely.
    A fruity-artificial type of a fragrance.
For my nose, a cross between Clinique Happy for MEN and Ma Dame by JPG.
Citrusy, tropical, slightly floral, sparky, bubbly.
    The best one from Christina.

  43. :

I’ve found it surprisingly delicious, as much as I’m considering investing in a bottle, however lately I’ve got bored of celebrity scents. Reminds me a bit of Britney’s Fantasy, but not as sugary teeny sweet.

ohh this is nice.. i did not expect much off this one , after trying the other perfumes off Christina . but this is somthing different i think .. this stays better on the skin , sparkely fresh.fruityflowery. a nice blend .
this remind me of flowerbombe extrem. not all the same but defenitly a resemblens..
i think i need a bottle off this one .
    like it 🙂
fun flirty, not very serios , just happy and georges

Secret Potion is, to me, definitely Christina’s best fragrance so far. Its smells like cherry soda pop to me. Its sweet and sparkly. Its a happy scent. It does remind me of Avril Lavigne’s Wild Rose without the creamy base Wild Rose has. The lasting power and projection are decent for the price.
Finally a Christina Aguilera fragrance that I’m going to keep!

I found this one quite uninteresting and typical drugstore. There is nothing I could point you out. It reminded me of Lovestruck though.

I bought this today because of the bottle, it’s so cute and pink!
As for the perfume, I think it’s a little too sweet and strong for me.

I smelt this in Boots around a week ago and all I can remember is vanilla…to be honest I’m a bit disappointed because I really though Christina’s first fragrance was quite different and juicy, but this is a bit of a letdown. I will be buying a small bottle to support Christina and because I’m a big fan of hers, but I really hope they think of something new and different soon! A typical floral fruity :/

  49. :

The fragrance smells not bad for the category it is playing in. It reminds of a deeper version of cK One Shock: I feel the fruits (and berries) on a lovely vanilla base.

this one smells like her other perfumes… not bad, but not very original.

I know the ingredients in here sound a lot like her past perfumes, but that’s doesn’t mean I wll jump to conlusions. You never know until you smell. Also, I love the photoshoot. Just becuase xtina weighs more in real life doesn’t mean it should show in the photoshoot. What celeb does that anyway? Weight isn’t a big deal so certain people need to get over it.
I can’t wait to get this!
