This is much lighter than I expected. It’s almost baby powder and lavender-like. Not incredibly heavy on the woods, never resinuous or sharp. *Maybe* it is very slightly musty, but I did spray this on the back of a dry hand instead of a wrist or elbow crook. And the leather note does not give off the feeling of creaky, shiny black boots or gloves, or even a heavy leather coat or car interior – those qualities associated with new leather. Instead it’s as if the woods have been crushed, powdered, and mixed with this softly floral quality (is this the bergamot?), then sprinkled on top of a ladies’ soft suede handbag. As it fades off and where it lingers on my sleeve, it kind of reminds me of dried laundry or body lotion.
Rustic Woods is androgynous and fresh, and I’d even argue that Brainiac, the Good Chemistry fragrance marketed on the “ladies'” side, smells more familiarly “masculine” with its peppercorn notes (not to say we’re really restricted by gender here). If a man or woman were to wear this as a daytime casual, I believe it would compliment them without the fear of them supposedly smelling “girly.” I’d just caution that it’s nothing strong if he/she was looking for a sportier fragrance. In that case, I think the other 3 in the cologne line would be more suitable.
As such, I do like and prefer Rustic Woods over Brainiac as it is the most wearable out of the Good Chemistry cologne line. I hope ladies will not be put off by its marketing since many of the men’s body washes and deodorants an aisle down in Target would use these descriptive words. It is fresh and clean without falling into sporty territory. Unfortunately it cannot substitute my beloved Erotique with its whip-crack leather, but it is lovely and worth a re-visit. A simple, comfy autumn fragrance.

Had the opportunity to sample it at target even though it sits in the female section of the cosmetics. I like it, it’s an overall minimalist composition that isn’t overwhelmingly feminine. It isn’t uber masculine, but that’s part of the appeal. I would love this on a woman.
Scent: just like the listed notes, citrus, woods, and leather. I didn’t get handbag leather but more like a piece of leather had been laying out in a coniferous forest.
Performance: decent esp for its price. I got about 4 hours out of it and it survived a light hand wash. It has somewhat soft projections, but it was a bit noticeable.
Season: works in all of them really with the exception of a blistering summer day.

The dark green packaging and the name Rustic Woods had me expecting pine but no, instead I got LEATHER. Straight up soft handbag leather start to finish. Unexpected but I do like it!

I can smell all three notes listed – bergamot, leather and wood. But it’s a very pale, slightly chemically, almost aldehydic scent – like an older style Chanel, but not as rich and complicated. It reminds me slightly of Bijan Nude for women, the woody note is similar to my nose but not as interesting or as well done. I feel like this needs a richer natural chemistry – my skin is dry right now and I feel like dry on dry leaves it too one dimensional.
I’ve not shopped at Target in a while and they have what looks like a fun line of fragrances; this was one. Fun to try, I won’t be buying this but will be back to try more!
