Description
Monotheme Fine Fragrances Venezia has launched a new collection inspired by the Orient. The collection consists of four fragrances and it is named Black Label. The fragrances are available in black bottles crowned with black caps of the same design as the previous collection of classic Monotheme editions, Bio Collection and invigorating line Book of Citruses. Four oriental fragrances, belonging to the line Black Label, are aimed at both men and women. The scents are based on rich and opulent natural essential oils combined with carefully selected essences. The intention of their creators was to evoke the olfactory wealth of Orient.
ROSE OUD brings a precious blend that opens with fresh and delicate notes. The top notes are elemi and bright lemon, which announce the roses in the heart, embraced by fragrant geraniums. The base chords of patchouli, combined with amber and oud, give depth and character to the composition. Rose Oud was launched in 2013.

I needed a new perfume for autumn and found it in marks and Spencer’s. It is pungent on first spray but settled nicely. I was complimented on my “expensive” perfume an hour after wearing. She couldn’t believe it wasn’t Chanel etc. I love it but I also like Tabac Blond and Habanita. A bargain perfume.
klim83 – :
Love this rose Aoud perfume, the rose is quite prominent throughout. For £22 I think this is a bargain considering it smells better than alot of high end rose aoud perfumes.

I found this delightful fragrance in Venice while checking out the much pricier Merchant of Venice perfumes (Rose Secret. Nice. 180 € per 30 ml. Must think about that one a bit longer to see if I crave it enough to buy it. They have a little shop next to La Fenice.)
Asked if they sold Merchant of Venice, the lady in the perfumery at the airport said no, pointed me in the direction of Monotheme and told me they are fairly the same.
I thought yeah, sure! Monotheme fragrances are a fraction of the prize of Merchant of Venice offerings, about 10 %. Checked it and found out, that both companies are owned by the Vidal family. Go figure.
By the way, I don’t mind spending a lot of money on niche perfumes if I can’t live without them and I have quite a collection of Frederic Malles and Amouage, Creed, Lutens exclusives etc.
I tried Rose Oud of Monotheme’s Black Collection on paper and skin and walked around for a few hours, nearly missed my flight, again and again sniffing my left wrist which smelled divine. A very uplifting rose-oud combination if you can imagine that. I get rose and woods about 50% – 50 %. The citrus gives it a smile, patchouli, oud and amber give it a dark, cuddly and creamy base with stellar longevity. I don’t get Elemi, but maybe my nose is not trained enough for it. Is it Elemi that I identified as citrussy?Very very slightly medicinal and only a hint of barnyard. But, tell you the truth, I don’t want more than a hint of barnyard.
At 20 € this was a no brainer and I bought a full bottle.
I have sampled almost all of the Montals and I much prefer this one to any of them or to the Rose Oud of Merchant’s of Venice.
The back of the Monotheme box says “Elemi, Geranium of Africa, Moroccan Rose, Indonesian Patchouli, Amber and Oud Wood”. It claims to work with “rich natural essential oils” and in the list of ingredients I recognise some that are components of natural rose oil, at least. We all know that perfumes composed solely of natural essences are often somewhat disappointing.
The result is gorgeous and absolutely compatible with all the walks of life, bed and office, solitary enjoyment and large crowds. My husband likes it a lot and bought the Vetiver for himself, which I like a lot on him, though he prefers Malle’s Vetiver for its better sillage.
I highly recommend checking out this line. Excellent quality.

Strong dirty oud, with a hint of rose lurking in the background, attempting to bring some sweetness to the overwhelming pungent nature of that dominant note, but ultimately, failing. You’ll have to be a strong character to pull this one off. It’s a fierce, dominating, unapologetically balls oud party that will divide the room like a discussion about politics. It’s too much for me, but I do admire it’s guts.
malyush – :
After a balsamic and pungent opening with roses notes, strong and bitter oud and orange citrus notes that lasts about 1 hour, the drydown reveals notes of frankincense with musk (perhaps vanilla) that joins the roses and the oud , tuning the composition. Amazing performance, fixes and projects over 24 hours. The opening scares, but it’s worth the wait for the development of this fragrance on the skin.
6,5/10

Just received this and Monotheme Leather and all I can say is stunning quality and longevity for the price. This one is different from all the other rose oud scents that I have. It probably leans toward the feminine side but still just fine for a man. Rose is a bit stronger than the oud but it’s a spicy rose ala Rose 31 and it’s just simply a great fragrance. Puts many, much more expensive, rose oud scents to shame. Just my opinion.

How come i missed this line? Last time i was at Marks i didnt notice. But then, i was otherwise occupied! Their recent gear was very good, so i got a black dress, a red dress, a few tight fit dark navy suits for work, a couple of black tight fit skirts, a couple of pale blue with white collar shirts, a dark navy body skimming dress, a few lace silk panties… eh…it WAS the sale….etc, when i went to the checkout the lady said that if i wanted i could get one of the food hall trolleys instead of a bag providing i would bring it back….i never saw any fumes!!!!! Anyway, i ordered on the net. I want to cry!! I was looking forward to this as a junky for his first daily fix! I always try fumes on skin and paper. On skin all I got was a medicinal Oud, Oud and Oud, with a touch of geranium!!!! NOT even animalic!!! On paper it developed from screechy Oud to soft, gentle rose and Geranium!! Beautiful! On skin… I waited, and waited, and waited… Nothing BUT burning medicinal Oud and Geranium!!!! It’s like Jekyll and Hyde, Jekyll developing into a musky, sweet floral, while Hyde maintaining a fierce, astringent character One wrist emanating spicy plum from Vevezia, the other pure naphthalene!!!!!!
Please try before you buy!!!

Great oriental rose scent, dominant notes are elemi and rose, and a little bit soft oud. It is complex too, some here writes that it’s linear, but I can’t share their opinion. Starts with a little bit sweet rose, later you will every hour notice less rose but more oud. This perfume has absolutely BEST performances on my skin, my skin is dry and even the Joop or any other powerhouse don’t last on me more than 3-4h, but with this one always get more than 10h.
Many perfumes from category rose-oud are similar, but some of them has unreal high price, I won’t name them but if you love oriental rose scents, you don’t have a reason to buy them instead of this one.
BRAEN UKONER – :
Absolutely in love with this, it is a beautifully blended fragrance with insane longevity and sillage. A sublime mix of rose and oud, which develops with time. An absolute must have.

Okay so this line is impressive however you stack it up.
For the Oud/Rose lover this has to be a worth while fragrance to check out because despite lacking the depth and intensity of some, it delivers the basics in a very concise way.
The opening rose starts out very jammy and sweet, very intoxicating for the first few minutes. Then it starts to settle and become darker, less sweet with the oud becoming more prominent. Rose Oud is reminscent of countless others but I would definitely say more on the side of rose. This makes it not really a fragrance for me, it’s straight up floral and straight up wood which despite intensity progression in terms of smell is quite linear. What I mean is that despite drying down to a very warm, gorgeous, cozy light rose and woods it takes several Rose dominated hours to get there and I’m not sure I want that. I like a bit of patchouli or creamy sweetness even vanilla with my rose just to lift it. I prefer the Noir de Noir or Rose d’Arabie’s of this world, that sort of thing.
This is more one for a true rose lover, actually darker than I expected with a growing synthetic oud note.
Yeah other than lacking a little bit of quality compared to high end stuff this scent is very, very impressive for £22. The longevity & projection was very good, beastly even at first but then fading and not matching the calibre of Montale, Mancera etc…
But really not far off and what do you expect?
Great value and really worth checking out if you want an Oud/Rose combo on a budget.

Top notes: rose, geranium, elemi
Heart: rose, elemi
Base notes: oud, patchouli, rose
Not much development in whole, yet completely unpretentious and far more interesting than some expensive or much admired rose/oud based niche offerings.
Opening reveals a fresh, spicy geranium-rose, standard and thin-smelling, but soon enough carefully sweetened with elemi – for me, this was the point where I thought “OK, 15 Euros not thrown to the wind” – and from there it gets only better moving towards more pronounced oud and gradually more and more dark rose. The heart is a succulent flash of elemi-rose and rather quickly the base appears; dark and dusty oud garnished with patchouli and dark rose.
Steady and moderate in every note. Sillage moderate, long lasting longevity. Nothing unique or spectacular, but for the price decent if not great.

My favourite perfume upto now!!!! I’m in LOVE with this juice!! It’s very very good quality!! The Oud is also perfect in this!! And it lasts a very long time on your clothes!! It gets better with time!! And it’s the strongest out of the monotheme black range!!! I also get commented a lot on this!!!!

When it comes to good price and fine quality, Monotheme is doing great! I’m a big fan of oud-rose combo, and this one is done great! It is hardly unisex, I’m a lady and man wil not do with this, since it is tart and rosy…. Not pink rose, but mature burgundy too ripe to cut and put in vase type of flower. Amber is strong, and I can feel geranium right away as well. I personally would’ve added more woody notes to it, something like spruce or even birch… So, what should I layer it with now? Very happy with this blind buy!

I bought this today after testing it a month ago in marks and spencer.I was looking around the beauty department for the fragonard but temptation got the better of me and I gave this bottle one large squirt on my jacket.I really liked the smoky rose smell but….I got into the passenger seat of my partners car for the drive home and he wound the window down about a inch every 10 minutes(it was a cold day).He could not stand the powdery ashtray smell taking over the whole car!!!I left this review really just to remind us all how subjective fragrance is I got Roses and he got Ashtray??I just have to hide the fact I bought a whole bottle now!!!this is the first perfume he’s ever comment on negatively but I love it.
serega-767 – :
Wooooow, during the first 10-15 minutes I could only smell the rose (very feminine) but after that the rose calms down and the oud starts to take over but the rose is still there. I think I like this one more than Oud Ispahan from Dior once it has settled down. The potency is not very good though but for the price you cannot go wrong.
Acercomp – :
bautiful smokey (a little bit oriental)rose with a really nice wooden/icence base. It’s quite linear scent but also very noticable- very, very good sillage and longlivety.
vicsTiliflins – :
it begins with a strong odor of elemi mixed with lemon…..this ago in way to leave that the rose seems a strange odor…..almost pits a good red wine.
then he clears and can clearly be felt the rose.
good the touch of geranium that with the lemon and elemi it doesn’t fade away in hurry.
the oud is not so dark and imposing…perhaps because sweetened by the amber.non in relief patchouli.
sillage 10/10 longevities over 12 hours.
for this price it seems to be before to a perfume of niche.I don’t believe that they are synthetic ingredients..
very oriental atmosphere!!!!8/10
Ladomir – :
very good this is maybe the strongest of the range, lasts a good 10hrs on me & smells so good the whole time

ZLOBNIIAID – :
Very rare. I stumbled in this when I was not looking for it. I gave it a try from tester because I was so curious.
Basically it is a gloomy rose of the Eastern type with some oud note and a little spice.
It’s nice if you’re looking for something gloomy or darker vaguely reminiscent of a Middle East atmosphere and also Venitian dark velvet curtains.
Not bad but I bet the raw aterial has a lot of synthetics. Longlasting a surely a big deal for that price.

Even though I live quite close to Venice, surprisingly I couldn’t find this frag anywhere in my city!! Then I bumped into it a few day ago and it was love at first smell! Wonderful!! Just as Venice!
tank54 – :
Very well blended and took time to develop on the skin so allow it to settle before deciding. No sharp or harsh notes just smooth rose and oud. Excellent for the price.
Roorturgy – :
