This is Tea Rose again! But wait a minute. There’s a difference. Tea Rose lasts forever. Tea Rose is a fragrance that you can wear for 2 days straight. This is over in 30 -50 minutes. But I don’t care for it on myself. It’s great to scent your house with. It’s a very realistic rose but it’s more like rose oil. It’s got a slight citrusy scent, it’s green and very fragrant while it lasts. It’s a bunch of red roses. If you like roses this shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve discovered that many people won’t admit to liking rose scents. But it’s nice. I like it.

A Rose By Any Other Name
This is my first purchase from the Demeter Fragrance line. I love roses and mostly prefer rose scented body lotions, body creams, body milk and rose oil shampoo. I love the feeling of turning into a human rose. This fragrance is a natural rose with green stem and a fresh dewiness which is totally similar to the more famous fragrance TEA ROSE by the Perfumers Worskshop. This one is les intense and is more of a skin scent. It does not project, and it’s very light. Sillage is minimal and it doesn’t last very long. It is definitely more natural and more real as a rose scent than Tea Rose, for the fact that it feels like you really are smelling a rose whose scent eventually disappears. But it’s a nice and realistic rose and it’s good to have that asn alternative to the synthetic roses in today’s perfumes, or the imiation via chemicals trying to evoke the smell of roses but end up being more powdery, velvety or like a rose scented air freshner/room freshner. This frag can still serve the purpose of air freshner in your house but it would not be as powerful as Tea Rose which has amazing strength and a long life. Tea Rose as an air freshner lasts about 2-3 days! This is jus as it advertises: Rose. All you get is a small but natural rose, like holding a single rose in your hand and smelling it. Not bad, and one of the better frags in the quirky and creative Demeter line which has every single scent you can imagine coming from plants, people, the earth, and from places you’ve been to: Dirt, Pizza, Mango, Milk, Paperback Book, Church, Funeral Home, Jolly Ranchers etc. This one I like to wear as a more natural alternative to their Elvira Black Roses which is perfect for Halloween. It’s a synthetic rose with other notes trying to evoke the mood of Elvira Mistress of the Dark. I would have to say that if you’re big on pure floral fragrances, flower power frags, the soliflores or single flower note frags in the Demeter Fragrance Library always deliver what you want. I wanted a rose and I got a rose. I’m waiting on their WHITE BOUQUET or white floral fragrance meant to evoke a white wedding. I’ll review that one when I get it!

Once again, I find myself pleasantly surprised by how nice a Demeter Naturals fragrance is. This one, Rose, smells fresh and natural indeed. Think Tea Rose minus the scary chemicals which occasionally inspire fear and anxiety. I should say that Demeter Naturals Rose is also quite a bit less green than Tea Rose. This is not a rose-bush-in-a-blender fragrance but a bushel of rose petals in a blender, and it definitely scratches the rose itch!
From the Demeter website, it appears that there is more going on than just rose in this composition. They write:
“Rose is a luscious blend of Chamomile, Rose Absolute, and Rose Petals, wrapped gracefully in soft woods and greens undertones.”
Still, the rose is dominant enough to call this a soliflore. I decided to try the perfume oil variant of Demeter Naturals, and I may like it even more than the eau de toilette! It’s much stronger in scent than the Aveda single-note analogue, which comes in exactly the same carrier oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, but apparently features only a fraction of the rose essence included in the Demeter version. The Aveda Rose is quite faint while the Demeter is declarative.
If you like roses and are looking to focus more on natural perfumes in the age of aromachemical abstraction, you should definitely give Demeter Naturals Rose a try, and all the more given the modest price of both the eau de toilette and the perfume oil.
I have not spent any real time investigating the Demeter line, but my interest was piqued by the Demeter Naturals collection, and I have yet to be disappointed.
