Description

“Princess of the sands, for many she is just a legend and yet I saw her many years ago. I just have to close my eyes to be dazzled by her beauty once again, a pure, sensual beauty both delicate and captivating. A lot of people didn’t believe me but I know what I saw. I didn’t have enough of a fertile imagination to invent such a wonder.” – a note from the brand.

Everything starts with the idyllic encounter between Kaffir lime (makrut lime) and Saffron. Then there is a blend of Flowers and noble woods between Damascus Rose and Cashmere wood and Gaiac wood. The creation ends with a sweet enveloping scent with Vanilla, Sandalwood and Patchouli.

Rose Bois de Gaiac by L`Atelier des Bois de Grasse is a Woody Floral Musk fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Rose Bois de Gaiac was launched in 2016. Top notes are saffron and lime; middle notes are damask rose, guaiac wood and cashmere wood; base notes are patchouli, vanilla and sandalwood.

Is is SO NOT like yves rocher rose oud.
I own both, not even a bit.( i am in love with rose oud YR and wanted to find a cheaper one, failed)
Rose bois de gaiac smell exactly like the oils oud&rose from al-rehab and oud abiyeh from ard al zahafaran even if the last one is lighter. (not in the datalist) [own them too]
The perfume is strong and remain a lot on clothes but not heavy sillage. The oud is too strong and i use them for my home… as incense, but it is really perfume-like.

Wearing this again today and I cannot agree the comparison to Yves Rocher Rose Oud (the rose in the YR is much heavier); I honestly cannot see any similarity between them other than they both contain rose.
I also wanted to mention that this perfume does NOT smell cheap. If it was presented by Jo Malone, no one would be taken aback – the quality really is THAT good.
ETA I’ve also discovered that the subtlety of this is ideal for “re-setting” my nose after wearing a heavier perfume.

L’Atelier des Bois des Grasse is owned by the Arthes Group, with several others, including Jeanne Arthes and Jeanne en Provence. I gave my Jeanne en Provence Les Temps des Secrets to my daughter as she wanted a perfume to wear to work, rather than her signature scent, Flowerbomb, (too expensive to wear on a daily basis). I didn’t tell her exactly how cheap LTdS actually is – and she immediately picked up on its similarity to Flowerbomb, so was very pleased.
Based on my – predominantly positive – experiences with many of the JA fragrances and that 100ml of Rose Bois de Gaiac was £10.62 (with free delivery to the UK from France through Amazon), I bought it blind. At that price I could always use it as an air freshener.
I didn’t expect it to be quite as lovely, though.
Despite this being a cologne, the longevity easily breaks through 4 hours, although sillage is close from the outset. Someone has voted the sillage as being “enormous”, which – to me – is inexplicable!
Whilst predominantly a rose perfume, this is not an old-fashioned “heavy” or jammy rose. It’s a delightfully fresh and citrussy light pink rose, with a little bite to it, which I think initially comes from the saffron.
The woody notes come out on drydown, as well as a little non-animalic musk, presumably from the cashmere wood. Patchouli is very light and in the background on my skin – not something to be feared if you aren’t a fan. Vanilla adds to the sweetness of the perfume, but it’s not a foody vanilla, instead contributing a “creamy” feel to it.
I think this will best suit spring and summer wear and intend to store it in the fridge to use as a freshener when it gets particularly hot and muggy in SE Essex.
After about an hour this is truly a skin scent, but it’s always – pretty. Yes, that’s the word to best describe Rose Bois de Gaiac. Pretty. This is a safe blind buy and the sillage is so soft I doubt it could offend anyone.
Finding this range of perfumes on Amazon UK is not that straightforward as some sort of odd translation engine has been at work (I hope!) rather than a human; as a result, most of the perfumes are listed as being by “The Workshop of Fat Wood”.
Cut and paste this phrase “L’Atelier des Bois de Grasse” into the search box and you’ll find the perfumes Amazon currently has listed.
