Rosebuds in a swimming pool. Really weird chlorine note, right off the bat. Eventually, some sweetness is revealed; I thought it might have been vanilla, but looking at the notes it’s probably benzoin. Well, now it smells like spilled ice cream, oud, rosebuds, and a swimming pool. The notes don’t combine well on me and I can pick each one out.
The best I can say about this perfume is that it’s different! I actually enjoy the smell of swimming pool chlorine, but this mixture is really just very odd to my nose.

I am always a bit careful with rose. Lots of rose fragrances I dislike and I am yet to find a rose-scented body product or candle that I do not hate. Yet my favourite fragrances often have a dark dry-ish rose in them. So I had thought about blind buying Rose Anonyme for a while but always pulled out just in case it was one of the roses I hate.
Anyway, after a swap with the lovely Nexangelus, she sent me a load of fantastic samples, including Rose Anonyme, and it is one of the ones I love.
It is earthy, a bit chocolatey, a bit spicy and peppery but also warm and rosey like red wine. It is not as thick and opaque as other ‘dark rose’ scents, which makes it just what I have been looking for as my fragrance collection is basically only suitable for autumn and winter wear.
This does not mean it is a summer cologne scent but it will work well in summer. It is not “an office scent” but would work well in an office. It is dark drama but suitable for any time.

a crispness, sophisticated daytime for the office, green soapiness, pretty for daytime, professional yet with softness

I own both versions of this gorgeous scent, the cologne absolue and the extrait de cologne!, gorgeous jammy rose scent with sweet balsamic Oud introducing it self into this amazing creation. It’s a rich velvet rose and Arabian Oud fragrance mmmmm love it!! Very long lasting and always gets compliments

This smells just so..satisfying. It’s like it fills your entire nose with scent or activates all your scent receptors or something. The rose smells really green and fresh, like a living flower from your garden. It also has a little bit of smooth spice to give it an added edge.

I used to think this was a Fall and Winter fragrance, but it’s best for Spring and Summer evenings.
It’s still very fresh, unique and cozy.
A very fresh gender neutral rose.

This is such an amazing fragrance. I agree completely with people who have brought up A*MEN by Mugler, it kind of has that DNA to it but Rose Anonyme lifts and sparkles in such an incredible way that to me surpasses it. I would be 100% comfortable wearing this all year round, when it’s hot it seems to meld with your aura (I know just let me say it) and when it’s cold it feels like you’re getting wafts of delicious air from a warmer season.
My only issues with this seems to be longevity, I even purchased the extrait version because it really seems to hit or miss. In retrospect I would have gone for the 30ml travel size and just re-applied every few hours. Today I moisturized, sprayed some Molecule 01 and then sprayed the extrait over my skin and I MAYBE got 5 hours out of it? Oddly enough if you spray this on your clothes….it will be there for DAYS ON END.
To me this fragrance lets people know you are complex and mysterious without smacking them over the head with a ton of drama. It’s such a good balance, my next rose fragrance will have a lot to live up to.

It smells luxurious. … it is so sexy and classy. On atelier cologne website, it is marketed as unisex so does at Sephora. I got a sample of it and it stayed on my skin for good 7-8 hrs. My husband loved the smell as well. I think both genders can pull it off very well. The dry down is definitely tad bit masculine.

Nice earthy, balsamic, medicinal, spicy rose but fresh and definitely cologne-like, which is a nice twist. It’s versatile and unique. FBW and on my want list!

    Ohhhh gosh! This is gorgeous
A jammy rose with some dark oud.
If you like Jo Malones Velvet Rose and Oud cologne intense you will love this!
This one is less sweet than the Jo Malone one.
Longevity is a good 7-8 hours when applied on cloths.

I could see this rose on a man. It has a dark quality to it. You can’t be ambivalent about roses.

Opening is very much depends from season and weather – I wore it in spring and it was most delightful, youth, cheerful rose. While in winter – gave medicine note, patchouli went very noticeable, and overall perfume sounded quite not interesting and similar to other patchouli roses – from Different companty or Artisan.

I had such high hopes for this one. I gave it several wearings and couldn’t get past the smell of cleaning fluid. Drydown was nonexistent for me.

What a classy, beautiful, niche smelling, bitter and perfumey perfume. Herbal, spicy, dark and mysterious. Peppery and medicinal, balsamic with enough thickness for a cologne; an EDC should typically be “thin-textured”, thus meshing gracefully with the natural smell of individual’s skin, a “my scent but better”, but Rose Anonyme acts rather as an EDT.
Basically, Rose Anonyme is Pogostemon Cablin essential oil diluted in rubbing alcohol and backed up by opoponax-resins-woods. Rose is a background floral. The voting is misleading… Addictive conconction. Not for everyone’s taste. Dry scent with a sensual drydown. Grown up, adult appropriate.
Beware though, don’t dismiss Rose Anonyme because of the harsh opening. It is truly difficult to the nose and personally it reminded me of cleaning products, chlorine and such, be patient for the bliss of the drydown.
Projects really well and kept strong for four hours; afte that it became a skin scent and started fading.
Well done, well done. I need to smell more Atelier Colognes

This has a beautiful, soft drydown, slightly sweet and rosey, with spice. If it smelled like this the whole time I’d buy a bottle. However, for the first few hours it’s the perfect example of why I don’t like oud on my skin. It’s acrid, slightly sour, and sickly sweet at the same time. I smell nothing but citrus and oud, and the mixture makes me a little sick. I like the drydown, but suffering through the first hours until it settles down is not worth the money. I’m glad it works for others.
Edit: After testing for a few months, I may get a bottle after all. It has developed into a jammy, spicy interesting rose with an oud background that I can enjoy for hours. Longevity is great on my skin, at least 8 or 9 hours with a dab-on. Quite different from everything else I have, and would layer beautifully with others I have.
    Keep shining, you beautiful people.

Rose Anonyme by Atelier Cologne is a delightful unisex rose! This fragrance truly has a wonderful balance of masculine and feminine notes. The rose smells lush and sweet while the oud complements the opopanox and benzoin which prevent the oud from being too pungent or overbearing. A pleasant citrus twist from the bergamot, a little zest from the ginger, all mixed together on a mellow bed of patchouli leaves. I recently obtain this in a swap and I must say that the short story on the back of the bottle about a female jewelry thief made me laugh! She apparently was stealing a diamond from her lover to only have him “chase” her around the world to get her/the diamond back…romantic? Sounds like it would be an Alfred Hitchcock movie. To sum this up I will say that I love roses, but do not like anything overly sweet and generally avoid oud, but this fragrance is in a league of its own! I let my friends spray on whatever they want from my collection when they come over and Rose Anonyme is one that everyone enjoyed!

Beautiful scent! classic, masculine and sexy.
I sprayed the tester on my wrists and an hour later I’d bought the 200ml bottle.
Thanks to the well blended ingredients, This is NOT your typical perky sweet rose scent… It’s dark, warm and woody. Very similar to Czech & Speake’s No.88, which I also have and love.

Goodness, this is nice… A “just right” rose, as nero77 described this. Not too heavy, yet not too light. This to me is very classy; a classic rose. No fluff… No sugar added. There is a slight woodiness to this, so this is not all about the rose. But the woodiness makes me feel like the great outdoors, walking through a lush yard with big huge old oak trees, surrounding a beautiful, immaculately maintained lovely rose garden. It is like going on a nature walk, and absorbing the finest scents that nature can offer. Nothing synthetic smelling here!!! The bergamot lends a touch of bright and sunny freshness, sort of like the sun peeking through the clouds on a partly sunny warm Spring day. I think this would be great for the “nature girl”..one who is not very frilly, likes things more natural. Definitely anyone who likes a realistic moderate rose scent, a natural, almost earthy scent. There is a cleanness and a freshness about this. Just lovely.
I had no idea what to expect with this one, I had been searching for a “moderate” rose, and this is quite beautiful. Never at any point do I detect any alcohol or anything synthetic or chemical. I have gotten picky about what I spend the “big bucks” on as far as perfume goes, and to me, this one is worth every penny. Very well crafted and is possibly my happiest and best blind buy of the year.

Rose Anonyme is artfully well blended, a minor masterpiece. Besides the rose and Oud, the other supporting notes are well blended making for a very satisfying and unique light and fresh oud rose combo.
I was so surprised at how close this fragrance is to my second favorite MFK fragrance, MFK Oud, which uses safron and Oud, and also stays remarkably fresh.
If you love Rose Anonyme, and would like a more refined and richer version of this, try MFK Oud.
In general rose is too feminine for me, but here strikes a balance with the Oud. Rose Anonyme is lightly woody with bergamot, touches of ginger and papyrus, well blended, keeps this very fresh, and more gender neutral or gender balanced.
I can really enjoy this, the rose is light and well blended. The rose is clearly a floral aspect here, but it has lost some of it’s singular identity, blending into nice fresh and woody accords. The opening-mid stays very balanced, from mid-drydown the rose comes to the fore, and the darker notes fade some, but the rose still stays light and fresh, doesn’t get too girly.
I can’t wait to try the extrait version.
After using this a few more days and trying some other Atelier Colognes, I keep thinking about how exceptional enjoyable this is. I love the balance of the dark elements with a translucent clarity, soft yet warmly radiant; as some have said on basenotes.
Reminding me of my #1 Rose MFK Lumiere Noir Pour Homme, which also captures the beauty of light and dark.
I’m waiting for my sample of the richer extrait version, then will decide which to purchase.
PS: I got the Extrait and was dissapointed. I could hardly tell any difference, but then noticed a bit of pink pepper and vetiver that were added, making it more like other fragrances with vetiver.
The genius is in the original! -Dark notes of oud, and frankincense yet stays soft and light like a cologne, that lasts.
    Rating: 9/10

    Just right…
For me this is my “Goldilocks” of rose fragrances. For my personal taste, I would say the rose fragrances I’ve tried and own tend to be very prominent with the rose note. Rose itself can be a very dominant note in fragrances. However I feel with Rose Anonyme that the rose does not overwhelm or overpower, and is itself accentuated and complimented by the supporting notes.
Even though Oud and Patchouli are present, this in no way becomes a rose-patchouli or rose-oud combination. In fact, they are very subdued and the other notes are the ones which stand out to me. The Ginger and Bergamot keep this fragrance very light and zesty, which is a balance to the Oud and Patchouli. The Rose is helped along by these fresh and spicy notes and really shines in a very clean way. In no shape or form is this ever heavy or cloying. I’m very impressed. As with all Atelier fragrances, this one is made with high quality ingredients and it shows. I would recommend it to men who are looking to wear a Rose fragrance and starting out into niche Rose scents. I would also recommend it for women as a Rose for warm weather. Really great stuff. Very good!

I often smell fragrances without reading the notes first just to see if I can guess them. In this case I was easily able to guess turkish rose, oud, benzoin and the patchouli. This is what it smelled to me initially.
After seeing the note breakdown here and smelling it again I was able to pick the other notes. The ginger is in the background, smoothening the fragrance and the bergamot makes this fragrance fresh while the opoponax makes it juicy. However I have a hard time smelling the papyrus since I don’t know how it’s supposed to smell.
Even though the notes are very simple and easily detectable it still is a very well blended and smooth fragrance. You could try to pick up the notes by themselves the whole time and you would succeed with that, but this fragrance makes me want to give up doing that and just enjoy it as a whole composition.
The sweet and juicy dark rose-oud combination is definitely dominant in this fragrance. The rose smells exceptionally authentic, like if you’d have it in front of you. Atelier Cologne loves to do these replicas like the almost 1:1 real blood orange in orange sanguine.
It really smells like a modern rose fragrance, not something your grandma would wear which is often the case with rose fragrances in my opinion (TF noir de noir cough cough, a beauty artistic wise but not wearable). It also leans feminin if you’d ask me. Still wearable for men, but I’d much rather smell this on a woman. If I ever caught a woman wearing this I’d probably go crazy over her.
I’m not the biggest fan of rose fragrances, but I feel like I have to have this in my collection. Really a beautiful fragrance.
    A decent-long lasting and medium-strong fragrance.

Masculine notes…covered with a powder and musk … based on Narcisio Rodriguez ….formula.
It does have this kind of synthetic feelings after so many hours, but it does smells interesting at the beggining.
It’s a smell of rich man- dentist.
The dry down… smells like his dental office and apron while he drives… his Porsche and buying something… in Wallgreens by…Scottsdale Rd in Scottsdale Arizona.
He is on his way to Mayo clinic, his patience are waiting for him.
    Frankincense covered with lemons.
It;s a god mix for 90+F for the middle of Arizona.
Scent of a rich; unmarried doctor from Scottsdale, Az.

Lovely, spicy, dark rose. Easy to overdo, it’s quite strong and little goes a long way. I’ve been complimented every time I’ve worn it. One of my favorite rose perfumes.

Beautiful fragrance, one of my favourites.
Unlike some of the other Atelier Cologne scents this isn’t just about the top notes and I continue enjoying the scent even when it has gone to the base notes.
The Citrus, rose and ginger are well blended but I don’t pick up any Oud on my skin.

I am searching for my perfect rose. This was not. I think that on my skin smells really masculine. I tried it on my husband and it smells great on him. Who said that a man can’t pull off a rose fragrance.

As I am a true rose lover I really wanted to try this.
But where POAL, FM une Rose or Le labo’s Rose 31 have a true deep and sensual smell sensation whichI like to stand out or wear at night. This cologne doesnt. It has oudh (synthetic, but still) and it has patchouli, but to have the deep and sensual feel it is just to sweet.
But also compared with other sweet roses that I like to wear dureing the day time or in a more homely setting Serge Lutens (all his roses) or perfumers workshop tea rose, FMs Lipstick Rose or even diptyque istill have the sense there there is a depth missing.
It might be me but wearing it it has a candy gourmand taste to it, that is not my favourite.
For me it is a good office scent, not to deep, not to sensual and not homely either.
This al sounds quite negative but it isn’t meant that way. Its a good scent just misses a spark for me.

An initially soft rose, which then turns into a piercing, intense rose….
    I appplied 6 heavys sprays
0 – 1.5 hours. 5 inch projection. This is a soft calming rose which is appealing and quite modern. It is very balanced and not your usual piecring, acridic rose. I love this stage!
1.5 hours – 5 hours. 2 inch projection. The projection dies and it starts spicing up. It is now literally burning my skin and turns into your typical piercing rose, with some sweetness – just the opposite of what went before. This is one intense skin scent!
5 hours – 8 hours. Not as burning as before but my skin feels stretched! Still quite a strong skin scent
8 – 12 hours. Still there on the skin
I truly loved the opening and said to myself ” at last, not your typical sharp rose, instead a rose which is calm” but then 1.5 hours, it turned into what I had expected from the outset.
    Not bad

I absolutely love this fragrance, such a dark/feminine perfume.I like rose, but nearly all the fragrances containing notes of rose, smell well too sweet and heavy! When applying this perfume the rose is the first prominent note, then it becomes a warm, attractive and very sophisticated sexy tone! The patchouli and oud brings this perfume to another level!Divine!

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Absolutely unremarkable. There are a rash of roses out there. This came in the Atelier palette, and while I kind of like the Clementine and really enjoy the Orange Sanguine, this is meh. What can compete with Serge Lutens’ roses or Malle’s POAL, or Amouage’s roses, or well, it’s a long list, but basically this is “mall frag.” It’s not bad (not a scrubber, necessarily), but it’s not great.
The opening like so many of Atelier colognes is the best part and five minutes later one is down to the “clean laundry musk” synthetics heart. I really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and any number of popular fruitchulis out there.
If one likes everything scrubbed and clean with a (fe)breeze of laundry freshness–this is inoffensive and perfect for the office.
And…the “oudh” that everyone seems to notice? It does not exist. As in, it’s not IN the perfume. Oudh is so rare, so expensive, and is almost always synthetic–that’s why everyone is “liking” this “oudh” so much. It’s not oudh; it’s an aromachemical (maybe “Oud Synthetic 10760 E: or “Agarwood Opur as in Bond No. 9). The price would be closer to 300.00 for 30 ml if it really had oudh.

Who says that men can’take wear rose scents! This is a peppery, spicy, dry rose that is absolutely unisex. I love it on my bed linens and for days when I have to keep a clear head. Most interesting.

Absolutely STUNNING! What else can be said of this……..other than, a plain and simple, yet beautiful masculine Rose-one of the best out there!! Amazing juice; sweet, floral, slightly citrusy, some woods with a touch of goodness!! This 200ml bottle will be around in my collection for a long time!
Projection is GREAT, as well as longevity (8+ hrs.)

    kanak said it all.
I usually don’t like rose fragrances, but Rose Anonyme is the one that made me change my mind, made me see that there are rose fragrances out there that can be smolderingly sexy and not evoke images of a potpourri. I started with a sample, then tentatively the 30ml, and now I sprang for the biggest bottle. Even if you don’t like roses, I’d still suggest you to try this.

    Rose Anonyme. Gorgeous.
Ideally I should stop this review right there as that says it all and should be recommendation enough to go get this juice. If you want the standard Rose, Patchouli and oud combo taken to it’s brightest, lightest, freshest point, this is it. When someone says Rose, patchouli and oud, the first thing that comes to mind is Black Aoud and countless other middle eastern inspired frags of it’s type, all heavy handed crude bully frags that slap you in the face for the most part. Rose Anonyme by contrast is a lover that kisses your cheek and wraps you in a hug all day long. It is the absolute other end of the spectrum you can get with the same notes. It is the addition of the bergamot and papyrus notes that does this and the ginger provides balance. And for being such a lightish, airy frag, this projects and lasts a long time.
I put on just 2 sprays to the chest and sat down for breakfast and My Mum said your cologne is very strong which was frankly surprising. But this initial beast mode projection settles down after about an hour. Longevity likewise is excellent, 8 hours plus on me. If you are a rose lover of any kind, get this. If you are somebody who is turned off by heavy rose frags also get this. This is balanced really well and even guys who are normally leery of rose or consider it too feminine can pull this off. The only caveat I would state is that if you are mostly into heavy ouds, then this wont float your boat.
For me personally, It’s one of the best darn things I have smelled in a long, long time and proves once again that even the most overused banal notes in perfumery can provide magic in the hands of the right perfumer.

Like a few others, this beauty was love at second sniff or subsequent sniffs, at least. It was a grower. I was not expecting such a vibrant, fresh, woody rose from the listed notes. I expected something darker. Probably because of the oud. I do not detect a big oud note at all. It is a perfect blend of all its parts, because it is smooth. Nothing jars, nothing seems too strong. I would not call this an oriental at all, to me this is a modern chypre. The patch and papyrus standing in for the green oakmoss. Nothing leathery here, just a heap of fresh, but drying green. In a good way. Succulent rose too, not powdery, not sour or classic feeling. It smells like autumn to me. When leaves are turning and the green is drying out. A woody freshness to the damp that slowly creeps…

Roses! ! Is it soapy? Is it syrupy? Is it powdery grandma rose based cologne?
No!! It’s not. This fragrance is a lovely dark earthy oriental rose that is done and blended very well.
The patchouli rose combo with hints of oud in the back ground makes it one of the best rose based fragrances in the game with pleasurable notable balanced aroma.
To make an example that illustrate how this scent smells like.
Imagine how A*MEN pure rose gonna smell like. I hope that makes sense.
Excellent performance, considering the cologne concentration
    Cheers!!

Starts with some fresh notes that leave quickly the way to a rose that leans to the dark side rather than the fresh or syrupy one (which makes it perfectly unisex) with a bit of incense and the western clean/synthetic kind of oud. The rose is not center staged as the composition is blended so that it’s not a rose soliflore. There are some fruity notes that get mixed in the heart which makes the fragrance playful and brightens it up. The drydown comes with a clean patchouli and a powdery base thrown in the mix and, as a whole, the fragrance is mostly linear with minor shifts from top to base that give small nuances rather than big changes. The longevity is surprisingly long for an Atelier fragrance.

This sat untouched in my cabinet for almost a year, as the first time that I tried it, I did not like it at all. This summer, however, I decided to give it another try. I have been wearing it the entire summer. It’s the perfect blend of rose and oud. On me, the dry-down reminds me of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, which I adore. The longevity is very good; I get whiffs of it even after 10 hours. The sillage is not bad at all, especially for an Atelier Cologne.

I was given this as a gift and I have to say: good job!
This is lovely. For once (once) the presence of ginger doesn’t destroy the fragrance, I do not in fact smell like bad curry as per usual. In fact I would have never guessed there was ginger without looking at the notes. Oud either honestly.
I get a rich rose scent spiced with some incense and jam. There’s a lightening note of citrus (must be the bergamot) that keeps it from being stuffy. In fact its very nice on this warm summer evening. It’s a bright, dry rose. A rose that’s had all the dew evaporated off by the sun and is hanging out on the dinner table with some nice wine. Beautifully blended. A very different take on rose from my usual favorites but very welcome.

They also make this in perfume extrait form and it’s almost a different scent. Much more potent with a strong dose of pepper. Not sure why it’s not listed on the site. A great long lasting spicy rose.

Unlike most of what I tried from Atelier Cologne, Rose Anonyme is not very citrus intensive, but rather, rose dominant, as the name suggests. It has a bit of oud but it’s unlike most rose/oud combinations due to the degree to which the rose smell by far over any of the other notes, including oud. I got bergamot in the opening, and I get ginger throughout the opening into the dry down, so I imagine ginger is a heart note, with patchouli in the dry down as well. I imagine the sweetness I’m smelling is the benzoin, as it’s not overwhelmingly sweet but still jammy sweet somehow.
Overall, the experience involves this sweetness, a slightly spicy and oud-like aspect, and a little bit of powder.
At first I thought it reminded me of Aramis Perfume Calligraphy Rose but Calligraphy Rose is much darker and more acerbic, and Rose Anonyme is much sweeter–without the sweetness, it might lean more feminine, but with the benzoin it’s welcoming enough for all.
Rose Anonyme is likely the first Atelier Cologne I’ve tried (I’ve not yet tried the newer, more expensive, presumably more powerful Collection Orient) that I would say has a strong projection, stronger than any of the others I’ve tried, with quite good longevity. This might be the first Atelier that I buy, and at $98 for 100ml on FragranceNet (contra the retail $150 for 100ml), it’s a considerable discount as usual.

This reminds me of a perfume that is not in the database but should be, Irma Shorell Rose.
That perfume much like AC Rose Anonyme harkens back to the days of rich full bodied yet angular dried rose notes in perfume. The fresh dewy morning rose that many of us are familiar with in the 21st century is the result of near a century of tireless experiments and aromachemical research. Much of the components within the particular accords for those “green” and “aquatic” roses involve elements that unable to be duplicated using natural ingredients only. Honestly, as an aside, I think the modern obsession with austerity in perfumery notes is a result of the abundance gained through aromachemicals that can be tweaked here and there to form accords previously impossible to compose.
Now we as a society of consuming noses believe that the only decent “natural” rose is that which mimics through scientific artistry the dew, the earth, the green of it all.
Green and rose has become so common that it’s actually refreshing to come across the dried aged rose common in compositions from yesteryear. More than the bank of England, such roses come across as fleshy and sensual with depth. It’s a urbane and witty perfume rose that is proud to be a perfume and does not wish to be mistaken for it’s country cousin straight from the garden.
Aside from the lush grown up rose, there’s a note of lime bay rum and refreshing citrus. The patchouli is an after thought used to round out the entire effort. Incidentally I sprayed a bit of this on and further down my arm, spritzed a bit of Queen Latifah’s Queen perfume (it seems to have acquired a bit of a cult status for it’s longevity and spicy vanilla richness)
Queen with it’s heavy dose of patch and vanilla provided just what needed to have been further emphasized in Rose Anonyme–the base notes needed to be richer to hold up that blooming in a baccarat vase rose.
Longevity is not as long as others in the line of this House, Sillage is arms length.

I received a sample of this and I tried tried and TRIED to like this juice as it is pretty ‘spensive cost wise.
However, on my skin it is WAY too manly.. and this coming from me who would love to take a bath in Black Orchid
This smells on me like someone repeatedly hit a single red rose bud with a smoked cedar plank until it was a pulp of mush .

On me this sits close to the skin with my usual single spray to wrists and neck. It starts off mostly dry, papery, and sour — oud with rose as a supporting note. It quickly turns sweeter, cool, and dry, and reminds me of something bored wealthy middle-aged women were wearing to the theatre in the 90s … sort of shallowly elegant and standoffish. The rose note barely reminds me of the live flower and is more like an idealized photograph of a rose, flat and inaccessible. In mid-notes, I get the barest hints of patchouli and benzoin, a little more opoponax and papyrus. Four hours later th
