Description

This perfume was introduced in 2006, as the second in Secrets d’Essences collection.

It was designed by Christine Nagel. The top notes contain fresh and mildly spiced notes. The heart is an empire of rose, the beauty: Turkish, Bulgarian and Morroccan rose absolutely seduce and passionately dominate in this fragrance.

The base is darker and more mysterious with patchouli and a balmy embrace of warm and almond-like tonka notes.

The fragrance is available in concentrations of perfume water (50ml and 15ml for your purse) and perfume (30ml) + accompanying line.

    Beautiful fragrance!
    It’s like vine.
    Dark roses with cinnamon.
    Mmm… Very natural and good.
Now La Fille de Berlin reminds me it, because these dark roses were earlier.

One of the best rose fragrance i have smelt. The patchouli is delicate and blends in so well that i wouldnt have noticed.
It has this mysterious evening quality without being too dark. The sweetness is perfect and its a versatile rose almost as though it combines various cultures.
Just wish it was easily available and the projection was more.

I compared the parfum to the eau de parfum and prefer the latter because it has more of the cinnamon note and is therefore more interesting and dynamic to me ..

Gorgeous gorgeous rose rose rose (Turkish, Bulgarian and Moroccan!) so delicious, like a rich potent sweet wine/jam Heaven!!! Enhanced by the delicious tonka beans and patchouli – everything beautiful. Absolutely luscious!! Intoxicating!!!!
Such a tragedy that it’s discontinued!!!

Rose oh Rose, where art thou?
Ok, enough of agony, I can’t help but ask – why are you discontinuing your most honorable fragrance Mr Son or Grandson of Mr Yves Rocher?
“Rose is a rose is a rose”, a wise man said…
This perfume confirmed that with the highest rate of dignity. I never eventually bought it as it disappeared to soon.
    What a shame!!!

mirrorghost was spot on! I loved this at first then downgraded it to a like or okay. The reason? Well, the top notes were a sweet, jammy green rose that was perfect, similar to Tauer or Lush then dried down to lovely middle notes that were a creamy rose floral with a bit of amber/vanilla that is smooth and rounded not harsh or sharp. Then it fell apart for me when it dried down to a very gourmand sweet, candy, soda scent.

this starts off with a rich, red rose then the tonka soon comes in and it’s like a sugary/gourmand rose. i think i get a hint of cinnamon but the patchouli and cedar are alluding me. it reminds me *a lot* of lush’s rose jam, but it’s not as potent, therefore as a perfume, i am enjoying this one more, rose jam perfume was just too strong on me (though i love the shower gel.)

For me this smells like donuts marmalade. I personally hate donuts, especially with rose marmalade, but surprisingly – I love this perfume. It’s one of the best perfumes with deep, smeet, dark, ideal rose. It’s nothing like Stella, Chloe or newest Moment de Bonheur… There was also Rose Garden tea made by Twinnings and it has also been discontinued. It smelt just like Rose Absolue and wearing this fragrance while sitting and drinking Rose Garden Tea was like being in heaven!
And two years ago my husband planted two roses in our garden and one of them smells just like Rose Absolue too. So, wearing the perfume, drinking Rose Garden tea and sniffing roses in my garden meakes my perfect day:)

A warm and soft spicy rose gourmand, like rose jam. The spices and warm vanilla like properties of tonka bean together with rose and sweet notes, this is the perfect balance between all things good.
Reminiscent of the even older Rose Ispahan, which is heavier and more boozy than Rose Absolue. I recommend this to everyone. Une Rose Vermeille has more of the zesty raspberry, Rose Jam by Lush is not, according to me, worth considering as it’s too artificial smelling.

This scent doesn’t hold up over time once open, unlike all other Yves Rocher fragrances I’ve experienced. I have been hoarding this bottle for several years because I mistakenly thought it was my last. While going through my stash the other day, I found I had more. The open bottle has gone brown and the scent is like super sugary candied roses, although given time it settles back down to something approximating the original scent.. I had previously gone through my bottles fast. If you have some, don’t make the same mistake of hoarding; use it up.

Gosh, how to describe the perfection?..Its in top five roses that I ever tried, but I tried over hundred roses. Perfect representation of Nabokov’s “Lolita” in this juice. Its a gourmand on level of yummyness, but if its a dessert – than its not an overly sweet one, it has its kicks and spicy surprises, yet it is very fluffy, with souffle-like consistence, you don’t feel overfed, but just craving for more. Christine Nagel is a sorceseress, who does with notes trick after the trick.

I am not a straight up rose lover but I can appreciate the beauty of this. Very realistic slightly sweet rose, it’s the scent I can imagine you’d get if you crushed a handful of pale pink rose petals then added a dash of spice. Very feminine and soft, a beautifully done rose, almost as lovely as Lancome Une Mille Rose which I am still searching for!

I bought this (found on Ebay) because I quite liked Rose Ispahan but found it too sweet, so thought Rose Absolue might be just the thing.
I liked the idea of a quite sweet rose, something going slightly in the direction of gourmand, pretty and easy to wear and this turns out to be perfect!
Rose Absolue goes just far enough in the sweet direction without tipping into sickly or unsophisticated. On clothes it’s quite intense, more spicy, on skin it becomes sweeter.
It has that easy-to-wear feel I was looking for, I normally like floral leathers, woody orientals or green florals, so I fancied a change – something less serious to herald the upcoming spring.
There’s a lovely powdery cinnamon in this which reminds me of an Indian dessert, or Indian rose incense, though it’s not an incensey perfume as such. Also a slight metallic tinge which actually saves it from being too spineless sweet or pretty
There’s a gelatinous, sweet scent that’s just verging on Turkish Delight but it’s actually lighter in feel than that, a little bit like rose scented tea with a touch of cinammon.
To compare with other roses, it reminds me of the rose at the heart of La Fille de Berlin, but much lighter and more transparent. I’d wear LFdB in the evening or for a more formal event, whereas Rose Absolue feels more carefree and daytime.
Very nice – relaxed, cheerful, pretty.
    Sillage and longevity moderate

I mourn over this beautiful bouquet of a fragrance. I got a 15ml bottle from Yves Rocher with an order (why do they discontinue great products? Why?)didn’t try it for a few weeks. When finally did, I was overwhelmed by a lush, sweet rose tempered by gentle spice. It seemed to me almost a rose version of Miracle. I used up the bottle and when I went online to buy more, it was discontinued. My luck. If I would have known I would have bought as many as I could have afforded, as this would have been one of my top favorites. I every so often email Yves Rocher and plead that they bring it back.

beautiful, and i’m not a big fan of rose when it’s too prominent in a perfume but this one is truely devine! very sophisticated, deep, complex scent.

@ Blue Wolf: I have a purse spray and a full bottle of Rose Absolue. I store them in their boxes, away from heat and light, and both have already turned light brown. It even says on the package ” The colour of your perfume can change over time due to the natural raw materials it contains, including two rose absolutes, but this does not diminish its oldfactory quality”. The color is more than likely to change, but the smell remains the same.

The closest thing I have smelt to jammy, lush roses. Rich, warm, sweet, comforting. Not as sweet as Turkish Delight, but getting there. Makes my mouth water to smell this one and it lasts long, radiates from warmth of body nicely. It does have a gourmand, edible feel (dark chocolate covered rose fondant) or even a kind of spiced wine vibe. One of my first loves here on fragrantica. An elegant, rich and sweet rose if ever there was one!

I think Yves Rocher company has serious problems with following up the trends in perfume industry. All brands in the market are releasing “Rose” version of their regular perfumes (D&G/Rose The One, M. Kors/Gold Rose, Burberry Body Rose Gold, E.Armani Diamonds Rose… only to name a few) But Yves Rocher decided to discontinue the one of the best rose scent out there. The quality, complexity, combination of roses with cinnamon and sweet notes were just perfect, so unique and special like niche brand creation. If they bring it back, I am sure it would sell like crazy, at least more than before and of course more than some other boring rose waters.

Blue wolf: the Yves Rocher Rose Absolute will turn brown when exposted to sunlight – mine turned brown quite fast, but the quality of the scent is still impeccable. This is a quite common phenomenon.I know some of Chanels perfume products are sold inclosed with the information that the colour is likely to change without affecting the quality of the scent.

I am interested in buying this scent, so I looked at what is available on E Bay. I noticed that there are bottles of ‘Rose Absolute’ on sale, and one bottle of pink ‘Rose ABSOLUE’. Since the Absolutes available on E Bay are brown in color, my guess is that the Absolutes are fakes.
Can anyone clarify or confirm my suspicion? I can’t pay the $129 they want for the Rose Absolue but I like to be well informed while I continue my search.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Bought blind due to the notes. This is a great rose fragrance if you like jammy, sweet roses. I was expecting something a bit darker / spicier. Similar to Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud (which I love) but without the Oud note. Also similar to Rose Jam by Lush (which is just as hard to get hold of). Longevity is great – 10+ hrs.
Update: Similar to Aerin Lauder Evening Rose. Rose Absolue is sweeter / more jammy & both the sillage & longevity are far superior. Its also much more pocket friendly!

  28. :

    4 out of 5

Tonka and Rose are the two strong sisters in this scent who walk hand in hand and allow their admirers patch and cinnamon to walk five steps behind and throw powdered sugar at them. And that’s lots of sugar we’re talking about.
If you are in the mood for something loud, playful and feminine this is deeply satisfying. Nothing for the friends of shy and inoffensive scents.
I have also the “Le Parfum” concentration which is a dark red liquid, less sweet but still powdery (maybe even more) and reminds me of rose hip tea or some fruity dry red wine in the beginning before it turns into a strong powder rose with some sweetness and also a hint of cinnamon. It’s as potent as the EDP but to me it’s more mature and severe. Both have a big sillage and last the whole day (and longer) with almost no decrease. So be very careful with the dose.
I’m supplied with backup bottles and if you are not you should get some now, as long as you can still find all the concentrations (there is an EDT as well) for reasonable prices on ebay.
But listen Yves Rocher, to discontinue your best products is certainly not the way to gain customer loyalty.

Love this well-developed gourmand rose! You can still find it on EBay at times, but it is slowly disappearing… A good rose is so hard to find….and keep around!

Why in heaven’s name has this been discontinued??
Rose Absolue is a fantastic, sweet rose scent. It opens very jammy, with a tiny pinch of cinnamon. As it settled, I couldn’t quite figure out what that sweet, bitter powder scent was that I knew, until I finally realised that this smells exactly like real Turkish Delight. Thick, sweet, sticky rose, with a powdered jelly feeling to it. It’s what I expected of Jo Malone’s Rose Water & Vanilla, but that one was more saccharine and less accurate.
Rose Absolue is a real treat and it smells expensive and high quality. Unsurprised to discover the nose is Christine Nagel, I love her creations. I also like this better than Keiko Macheri’s Loukhoum scents, I found Loukhoum eau Poudree again too sweet, whereas this one is perfect. Worth trying if you like those.
Good for all year except very warm weather I think, but to me this is a wonderful fall-winter fragrance. Great staying power and sillage. A real shame it’s not readily available anymore, I hope they bring it back.

A potentially dumb question, but… Is Yves Rocher’s Rose Absolue the same as its Rose Absolute? I see both for sale with nearly the same packaging.

This rose is “the rose in disguise”. And I could describe this disguise in French word “miel”, as English “honey” is too sweet for this scent)). Rose Absolue brought me back into my childhood, in the garden where small late-spring tulips used to grow. They smelled exactly like this. And I must admit if a perfume could recall any happy memories, so this perfume is worth to buy, to wear and to adore it.
Rose Absolue is definitely of that kind!

  34. :

    5 out of 5

Yves Rocher Rose Absolue (perhaps Rose Tonka or Rose Ambre would be a better name) is as much an Oriental as it is a Rose perfume. It flirts with becoming a sweet gourmand but never quite agrees to remove its rosy cloak. The top and middle are a lovely blend of rose and tonka, with light cinnamon and wood side notes and a plummy fruit that seems to come and go. For my nose, I know that it is blended to perfection because one time I smell and it seems rosy, the next time it seems more sweet ambery, the third time it is mildy spicy.
If, like me, you are not a fan of unadulterated rose but you love it as a note among others, this could be the rose that wins your heart. It is the only perfume with ROSE in its name that I love – I have an inkling that if I wear this now and again for a few months I might start to appreciate other rose perfumes more by olfactory association. Sadly, it appears to be discontinued but you can still find it here and there on-line at reasonable prices.
Later note – I have worn this now many times (I still love it) and sure enough it lured me into liking rose! I even increasingly like rose soliflores, though I refuse to wear them in public. Maybe if I spiked my hair and wore chains and leather I would have the cojones to wear a rose soliflore in public, but that ain’t happening so I will enjoy them at home.

Rose Absolue is a balmy vanilla rose and a delicate gourmand. It smells soft and warm, deep and sweet, and honestly quite lovely. The sweetness has a raspberry/plum fruitiness, like jam or liqueur. The sillage is really nice, too. I’ve been using RA since it came out, though less frequently over time. I never seem to reach the bottom of my latest bottle, but I always love it more when I put it on than I thought I would.
I wasn’t really happy with the body lotion for this one (whereas the Voile D’Ambre body lotion is amazing). I’ve now got my hands on Kew Gardens’ delicious body cream in Rose Figuier which complements Rose Absolue as though made for it, so this warm and friendly rose may get more regular use from me by now. Which is a bit of an irony, as YR in their fickle manner have discontinued it. Oh, Yves. :/ In my opinion there’s a half dozen other fragrances they might have axed before RA, which was one of their two or three best made.

Agree with lmlovespapa – smells like mulled cider..
This one smells simple, boring and flat on me, theres no development of the smell on my skin.
I find many of the YR perfumes a bit uninspired, but nice blend-in’s with other perfumes.
Wish it was as sophisticated as they are promoting it – but no. One, flat, slightly chemical rose smell, a bit candy-like, but only one layer fragrance.
Sweet fragrances generally also works well with roses, gives a depth to cuteness in fragrances, but not in this one, still a “one-layer fragrance” that didnt even dry down and blend in with my own scent.
For that price I think YR could have gone further in their effort.
Disappointed. Looove all roses, and rose-smells generally smell nice on me.
Gave it away to my sister-in-law, didnt work well with her either.

A remarkable fragrance. A gourmand rose, sweet and spicy. I always think of boozy rose-jam. Very well balanced and not overpowering IMO.
Longevity is amazing- I applied on spray this morning and it is still very noticable 11 hours later.
Love it! Its sadly been discontinued in my country but I managed to get a couple of back-ups. I truly don’t ever want to be without this perfume

Maaaan, I don’t know how I feel about this one! As a scent it’s perfectly fine, it’s a gourmand rose perfume. I’ve never smelled a gourmand rose before, so it’s unique enough, and the juice is a pretty pink in a reasonably classy bottle. All of that should be reason enough for me to like it…but I NEVER reach for it. Never!
One time, I was like ‘I should try this, it’s just been sitting in my cabinet and I don’t remember why I never wear it’, so I sprayed it on. At first I was thinking that it wasn’t bad, it was actually quite nice. And then I was overcome with an intense feeling of apathy (hah).
I wish I could love this perfume, or even like it, but I just. Don’t. Care. This is one of those perfumes that makes me wish there was a neutral ‘meh’ face in between the like and dislike buttons. What a wealth of information that button would give us!

NOT A REVIEW: Sorry for the non-review remark but I just had to pass these news onto fellow Rose Absolue fans.
This perfume is officially discontinued. So I’ve written to Yves Rocher and asked them to please bring back this perfume. They said if enough people write to them, they may consider bringing it back. For those of you who would like to have it back, go to Yves Rocher website and click on “Contact Us”, then e-mail the customer services and ask them to bring back Rose Absolue.
Thank you for allowing me to interrupt the wonderful reviews on here. 🙂

Sadly, this beautiful smelling gem doesn’t last all that long on me. I notice most people give it a good rating for longevity though. I should probably create some little sachet that I can hide on my person without putting the juice directly in contact with my skin as almost all YR fragrances seem to get just devoured by my skin.
I notice right away a lot of cinnamon blended with the rose here and it’s one of the reasons that I love it so much.
Shortly before I am unable to detect it on my skin I smell a nice rosey woodsy blend that remains soothing and warm.
I love it, I just wish it lasted longer for me.

  42. :

Excellent! Not a traditional rose scent but more a oriental style, spicy-warm rose.
On my skin the lasting power is more than 8 hours.

I bought my first bottle a few years back while visiting my parents. I still have some left in it, liquid changed colour from pink to brownish, it doesn’t look great but the scent is not affected in a bad way. If anything – seems to be even deeper and richer. I didn’t want to use it as I couldn’t find and suddenly – tadam! YR UK website, what’s more – Rose Absolute -60%. Of course – I had to buy it.
Perfume itself is amazing, deep, sweet gourmand. It always reminds me of a doughnut filled with rose jam, covered with a thick layer of sugar icing.
Sillage is good, I get compliments from people, I tend to wear it on colder days, it’s a nice comforter.

I finally obtained this fragrance and I am loving it. I am usually not a rose fragrance person. Leave it to Yves Rocher to make it appeal to me. I love it. It lasts for over 10hrs on me!

Love, love, love! It`s been nearly 20 years when I last time use YR`s fragrance. This was little bit more expensive than YR`s fragrance usually. It sparked my interest in it. Then I came here and read all wonderful reviews and I ordered it blind on online.
I`m huge rose fragrances fan. This is so unique, nothing is not like this. I think this is better than any other rose fragrance in the market. I love Stella and Bvlgari, but I love this one more! It last long. It been 5 hour since I put it in to my skin. I still smell warm sweet smell on my wrist. First you can smell spicys and then comes sophisticated rose. Last one you can smell lovely sweet cedar and patchouli. I highly recommend!

This lovely scent started my journey to being a rose scent lover. This is utterly divine. The rose smells natural, not too sweet, just fresh with the patchouli and warmed by the tonka and cinnamon. I could swear there is amber in there somewhere, too, but maybe it is just the tonka and cinnamon. This is a cosy warm delicious scent. I could drown in it. But I’ll just wrap it around me like a soft blanket. Ahhhh.
This is another beautiful example of the extraordinary quality of Yves Rocher’s scents. They continually put out top notch products at very reasonable prices. I don’t know how Yves Rocher does it but I hope they keep up the good work!

This is a rose version of chanel’s coco to me. So creamy and a little leathery, grounded and rich, very satisfying. Hardly a rose in its primal meaning – rather a rose liqueur with a hink of tonka and cinnamon and a little wood smoke. I was so surprised that YR came up with something like this! – a truly outstanding scent, bottled in quite a sophisticated-looking flakon. The staying power is also very good and I cannot wait to wear it: it is bull’s eye perfume for a colder autumn: you still hear the echo of summer ( florals ), but you are also getting ready to embrace the soon-to-arrive nothern winds and this means fire, warm drinks, cosyness and seasonal festivities ( tonka, cinnamon… ). Well done, will make sure to never run out of it.

My new Love. Rose and patchouli blends always capture my attention, directly from their bottles or on others, male and female. I find the aforementioned classic combo very alluring.
Yves Rocher fragrances are as rare as hen’s teeth in Australia and often difficult to source online. I jumped at the opportunity to buy Rose Absolue blind when I stumbled across it recently as the underlying vanilla theme had me intrigued.
Gosh this is gorgeous. I have never encountered a quality sweet vanilla blended with rose in this way. It is outstanding. The herbal undertones are equally as moreish as the decadent syrupy notes. Spiced tonka notes seduce my senses, I am dangerously delirious from the ridiculously sexy aroma that is ME!
It is humid here today and Rose Absolute has shone in the heat. This beautiful perfume is a catalyst for receiving smiles. Lots of them 🙂

TrailerTrashPrir is abosolutely right. Age matters. I bought a bottle of this miracle a couple of weeks ago. It was already brown, but oh the heavenly scent. Mature sweet rose with great lasting power. Perfect rose scent which I had been searching for ages. And by the way, hubby loves it too 😉

i absolutely adored the “Moroccan Rose” fragrance from their bath & body care line, and have mourned the discontinuation for years. i still search for something that smells like that.
i bought a mini of this Rose Absolue when it first came out, and didn’t like it. it was too spicy, too much stuff, cedar like a hamster cage, and not enough rose. so i put it away and completely forgot about it.
well, i found it today while digging out a backup of a Coty Airspun powder, and couldn’t resist trying it again.
and it has aged beautifully. the liquid itself is no longer pink, in my little mini bottle (which has been in a closed box on a dark shelf for the last… what, six years?), the liquid is a pale brown now. fairly unattractive even as perfume colours go. but now? it smells enough like my beloved Moroccan Rose that i’m quite happy!
at least for me, the secret to this scent, is to let it sit, forgotten, for a few years before attempting to wear it. 🙂

Roses and berries in a marmalade with some cinnamon. What a masterpiece. A classic beauty, lush and fresh with perfect amount of sweetness and warmth. Why in the world would Yves Rocher discontinue this? (But then again WHY do they keep discontinuing their best fragrances?) Maybe if enough people write to them, they will come to their senses and bring this back? Maybe not. Oh well.

Damson gin, more damson gin, some more booze, some children’s cough syrup and a bit of Fry’s Turkish Delight..
Bizarre stuff, gourmand and absolutely niche.
I really don’t like it but it is quite extraordinary, a curiosity and probably a must for fans of heady syrups such as Serge Luten’s Sa Majeste Rose or Feminite du Bois (not similar notes but very similar atmosphere).
I wish I could smell the cedre to lift it a little..

    UPDATE:
The more i’ve sniffed, sampled and bought perfumes in the last months, the more i appreciate rare gems like these.
There’s tons of designer/ department store perfumes out there that all are similar and booooooring, nothing really stands out, whatever price tag.
Rose isn’t normally what i like in a perfume, but this is delish! Don’t let the patch in the notes scare you. I usually can’t handle patchouli, but here i can’t even detect it. Edible, sweet, still very much wearable. And this is different, yay 🙂

  56. :

On my skin, rose is a complimentary note, secondary to tonka bean and vanilla. Though I usually don’t care for vanilla, I like this a lot. The rose softens it and adds juice. This perfume is like a hot date on a summer night, a fine restaurant and then walking around downtown looking at shops… exciting, feminine, warm, hopeful.
I feel this one is somehow so me, although the drydown becoming more vanilla and less rose… the combination of notes keeps my attention.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

OK, I usually give a fragrance three tries… this is my first one…
Opening note, gone so fast, I’m not sure what it was. Then a vanilla scent, then almond. Oh yeah, tonka bean. First hour: tonka bean. Second hour: tonka bean. Third hour: Lighter tonka bean! Fourth hour: Fading tonka bean and perhaps a touch of rose.
Considering I was looking for a rose scent, this isn’t a very promising beginning. BUT, I have at least two more tries. And I have had fragrances change as I wear them repeatedly. So I still have hope. Over all, I’ve been pleased with the Yves Rocher scents I’ve purchased. It will be interesting to see how this goes with my daughter’s skin chemistry as a comparison.

I don’t really like rose frags, but bought this out of curiosity, it was very affordable as purse spray. Initial thought was “whoa, strong and REALLY sweet”. This perfume makes my mouth water for some reason, so i guess it is gourmand :). It’s not an “old lady rose” for sure, there’s something very youthful to it. At first i didn’t like it much, and still i don’t feel quite comfortable wearing it in public. But it’s growing on me, and it’s somehow addictive. I find myself craving for it, and spraying it on quite often at home. The perfume isn’t really me, i don’t wanna smell like an edible rose ^^, but i have to say it’s quite lovely, and my guilty pleasure to wear at home now and then :).

I just sprayed some on, so this review is not with the test of time. But, I love this! I don’t smell spices, I smell the spicy rose blended with vanilla. Which I guess is really tonka bean, but that’s ok. I thought I didn’t like tonka from my essential oil days, but in perfume I’m finding all the ones I thought I didn’t like, I do. I know I love patchouli and rose, but I find this blended beautifully to a perfect balance of notes. I can’t quit smelling my wrist!

In my opinion, it smells too much of honey and I’m afraid it’s more on the artificial side. The structure of the original Damacena rose is partially ‘made of’ sweet honey scent but it is not as prevalent as in this perfume. I love rose scents, yet it’s hard to find a good equivalent of it in any perfume. The result (at least on my skin) is this ever-present choking smell of rose-(artificial?) honey concoction. Yet, it may be because I prefer the simple unobtrusive fresh scent of cabbage roses. If you are a fan of the Damascena rose, Rose Absolue should be given a chance.

I adore this perfume. Of all the rose scents I’ve tried, Rose Absolute is one of the sweeter ones. It’s not sugary-sweet; it’s a warm, rounded sweetness. Just a hint gourmand, with a tiny bit of booziness to it.
This is a gorgeous, cozy combo of rose petals, tonka, spices and cinnamon. Absolutely more of a floriental than a straight floral. I first smell the dewy-fresh rose petals when I spray this on. The spices emerge most strongly in the heart notes, but they don’t overwhelm the rose or turn the perfume musty. The thick, sweet tonka bean note is there pretty much through the whole composition, but is strongest in the drydown. The tonka, rose and cinnamon mix so wonderfully, and come out smelling like a sensual, decadent, spiced rose-vanilla dessert. Very comforting and inviting.
This is quite unusual for a rose scent. I don’t usually think of rose-based perfumes as being cozy, but this one definitely is. Despite this quality, the sweet, creamy notes don’t ever overwhelm the natural delicate aroma of the rose petals.
The sillage and lasting power are quite good – I can still smell this on myself hours after spraying it on. A very successful blind buy indeed.

What a gorgeous surprise this perfume is – a really beautiful, lifelike rose with spices and herbs, pretty but not too sweet, and wearable just about anywhere. I’m concerned that rose scents will become rarer as perfumers struggle with the restrictions of European scent guidelines. New rules legislate the amount of rose ketones that can be included in a scent, so if you have a favourite rose, better snap it up now as it could be discontinued. But the way Rose Absolue is structured, the rose, while strong, is not the only note, and perhaps it can survive. I’ve just bought an FB while it’s available, just in case.
If you’ve never tried this, and love roses, it is well worth a go.

A rose perfume. Very pretty, smells very sweet like candies. Girly, romantic scent. Nice and playful and warm. Love it.

I was hoping for a dark mysterious rose but this is very light and airy, not like Voile d’Ambre and Iris Noir at all! For soneone who prefers simple florals, this is a quality rose scent, but if you’re looking for something more complex, try Moment de Bonheur. It has a strong rose presence but also a bit of green notes and is definitely more musky/woody, although not as heavy as Iris Noir or Voile d’Ambre.
