Description

The fragrance in the black flacon, Rien Intense Incense was also introduced March 2014. Its composition incorporates shades of spices, floral-powdery iris and strong oriental-woody flavors. The fragrance opens with aldehydes, caraway and bergamot; the heart adds a union of roses, iris and incense, followed by a long trail of amber, patchouli, labdanum and moss. The fragrance arrives as 100ml.

Hey originaldeftom, I’m neither a “tranny or a dyke” and I wore this yesterday. I find your comments highly sexist. If you know anything, you know there is no masculine or feminine any more, only scents which fit your personality or which don’t. True to my strong personality which carried this scent off easily, I’m calling you out on your review. I also have MKK, Cuir Mauresque and Private Label in my cupboard. So sue me.
Anyhow this scent is not more intense incense, but more intense musk and base notes, I was hoping for sharper incense. I prefer the original formula by ELdO so I’ll stick to that. Not because I’m female but because this is unbalanced, and the original was a work of art.
Cheers to all females who might trespass on what men think of as their territory. It’s for all of us now, amen.

You tie a bottle of this with an atom bomb, nuke a city, forget the heatwave, people will die of olfactry failure first. No survivors. NUCLEAR sillage. Not for the faint hearted.
I was sitting next to my wife when I first sprayed this on my wrist. Her reaction was, “ Wow, wow, wow what is that, this smells so beautiful & cold?” and I was like, “Are you crazy this smells like burnt rubber with smouldering Incense.” There you go, this fragrance is highly subjective in terms of olfactory perception. You’ll love or hate it. Sample before you buy, this stuff is crazy strong. Best worn in freezing cold weather.

Despite my sample of this never having leaked, the entire sample box still smells like it two years later. So yeah, the strength is there.
Amazing if you (like me) enjoy industrial smells. My only complaint is that it smells very strongly and persistently of coconut and semen on clothing. This isn’t a bad thing per se but it gets annoying when you’re trying to wear a different scent with the same jacket, vest or (especially) scarf you wore this one with.

“Sillage is the projection, or the bloom of a fragrance,” says Sophie Labbé. You are so ignorant… This is 33% extrait de parfum.Sillage is killer and longevity the same.

Moderate sillage and low projection , Longevity its very solid- 20 hours and i can still smell it all over clothes and skin- amazing !!! After 1 hour it becames skin scent with bubble around skin -yes detectable in some way…This is NOT A BEAST -dont listen to reviews and youtube ! wE ALL KNOW HOW PEOPLE LIKE TO OVER EXAGGERATE when it comes to that !!!
Anyway- quiet different from just RIEN itself ( the first release from this house) which was truly a beast !!

“A disgusting and synthetic mixture of turpentine and kerosene. ”
This is a perfect description by Mr Jhericurls. What i found different in my own experience is that the longevity is off the charts. My shirt still stinks of this odious scent even after a week in the laundry basket.
I have over 100 perfumes and this is the only one i really feel like throwing away if not for the high price-tag. It is simply unwearable.

They’re not messing around here – it is indeed intensely incensey intense incense. Actually a bit too much so (and I’m quite a fan of Rien and its pouty sulky moodiness). For me it’s the aldehydes (I think) in this version which push it just a shade or two too far up the shrieky joss-stick end of things. It gets its respect – absolutely wham-bam projection, true unisex, tough longevity, full of noxiously smoky stand-offish character, aggressive and assertive about being incense without apologies – yet it’s fractionally too artificial for me to enjoy as much as plain Rien’s more organic-seeming charms. I guess it’s all a matter of taste since ELDO love to mess with your brain using all kinds of chemical magic, but for me this one reeked just a bit too much of the laboratory and not enough of natural life. Would be just right for a long gruelling day where you had to keep fighting your corner time after time – but little bit too much for most mortals.

Rien (Intense Incense) is the opposite of rien/nothing. It’s everything. It opens with strong aldehydes and cumin, whiffs of incense and much more. The aldehydes give me the impression of the inside of a hospital, and the cumin is body odour. While I’m not a big fan of the opening, I absolutely love the dry down. In a couple of hours it turns into a gorgeous leather scent, which reminds me of the great Bandit (the vintage is my holy grail). I usually put it on one hour before going out, then I can enjoy the beautiful leather base during the whole day.

Starts off with an intense interplay between incense and aldehydes. Leather has a prominent role as well and moves front and center on me after about 5 hours, giving a Santal 33 vibe. Somewhere along those hours, there is a latex impression which creates an olfactory scene of something naughty taking place inside a church!
It has really impressive performance on a perfume-consuming skin like mine. 16 hours after application and I keep getting wafts of it unintentionally. Strong projection for the first 3 hours and noticeable sillage.

    sillage 10/10

do not judge before you test it and give it more time to discover the magic
i am big fan of this unique niche fragrance house
    thumbs up

Cat pee, dog pee and human pee combined. And it is linear, it just intensifies in the drydown, so just more pee. Nothing wrong with that, if you are pee fetish it can’t get any better. And the name does not do it any justice. Where was the artistic director when they named this? I should be called ‘Pee On Me’ .

Sprayed at 8am and 12 hours on I am lying in my bath and perfuming the water with it. Some people are complaining about its longevity, but they either get nose fatigue very quickly or I am really really lucky that it lasts so long on my skin.
This is what the original Rien smelled like and it’s the perfect leather scent for me. Smells old fashioned and futuristic at the same time.
One of the greatest scents around for me.

  16. :

    4 out of 5

A disgusting and synthetic mixture of turpentine and kerosene. With such a synthetic and toxic mix you would expect good longevity. You would be wrong, seems like it’s be reformulated at some point and only last a few hours. So anyone wanting to smell like crap for longer, you’ll be disappointed.

My first thought was Andy Tauer L`Air du Desert Marocain and TF Sahara Noir. A real incense spice bomb. The aldehydes really make it an intense experience. Its a very dry yet warm experience. Labdanum has got to be the sexiest note on the planet. Warmth, some sweetness and leather.
Lovely but I already have the afore mentioned two. The usual strange name. It is most definitely not nothing. Moderate sillage but amazing longevity which is to be expected with these notes.

For me the best moments of the brand Etat Libret d’Orange are precisely those that they can support a provocative and ironic concept regarding market practices with a scent that not only fits into the concept but who rescues something of the past and gives a more modern but still decent interpretation.
Rien is perhaps one of the best brand in this sense, a perfume with her name somehow takes a fun of minimalist and almost transparent compositions offering a gigantic and proud creation of leather, aldehydes and animalic touches, something that immediately reminds me of one of the most challenging classic when it comes to leather, the beautiful Robert Piguet Bandit. Rien Intense Incense goes precisely in the opposite direction that less is more and do more is more by adding another facet to the idea, incense, keeping the intensity of the composition as promised.
This is one of those scents that automatically highlights, since few still dare to do this. The composition maintains the optimum combination of leather with aldehyde and animalic elements, something that gives it a bold and different personality. You can tell that the incense fits very well, adding a fresh, camphor-like and resinous dimension at the background, something that highlight the aldehydes while softing a bit the dry intensity of leather. Sometimes you can see the floral aspect of the iris and pink adding something more delicate and sensual to the brutality of the idea, which is again bring back by the dry aspect of the woods and amber in the base.
It surprises me a little the direction that Libret Etat d’Orange took recently. It is with perfumes like Rien Intense Incense that the brand became relevant and drew attention in the scenario. It is with creations like Rien Intense Incense that it should continue. I understand the need to ensure the profitability of business with less challenging compositions, but I feel that most of brand recent launches lack this kind of personality, which go against common sense and come out victorious in what they do.

smell exactly like an old perfumes that smell like really man and last forever. how wondarful we still have these perfumes. last and sillage are huge.good for office or meeting.10/10

One of the most unpleasant smells I have ever encountered in my life. Offensive, completely wrong balance, synthetic, plasticky materials. In my book the bottom line is that a perfume should at least smell good. This doesn’t.

rien really is the director’s cut of the original; not merely ‘more’ of the same, but new contours and a BAM factor that sets up the rien-ish drydown of cyborg leathers and cgi resins. very potent but also exceedingly well-behaved. easily my fave eldo and a rare flanker that respects and develops the best elements of the original. excellent smouldering, dystopian frag…

On first spray I get YSL Kouros from the early 2000s. So if you’re fan of the old potent versions of Kouros but didn’t care too much for the Civet note then this could be the scent for you:

“Carnal” was my first response to this masterpiece, but that’s too generic. “Primordial” is adjective I am most satisfied to use for this one.
Synonyms for primordial: instinctive, primitive, basic, primal, primeval, intuitive, inborn, innate, inherent, visceral…Yes, this one fits nicely. Don’t let the listed notes limit your expectations. Turn on Led Zeppelin, Whole Lotta Love, turn it up loud to experience this masterpiece. You’ll understand.

I had sampled regular Rien back in September, and I had the strong original formulation. I ordered a bottle of Rien a few weeks ago and it seemed much weeker than I remembered. I found that it was reformulated in 2014, and is now milder.
So I just tried my sample of Rien Intense Incense, and opon first application, I thought this is just like the original. But then after some moments it begins to intensify. So the name is very fitting, it is the same scent as the 2014 softer reformulation of Rien, but intensified. It is actually making me a bit dizzy and my eyes are watering, and I’m begining to have a headache.
The intensity is od, you don’t really smell more of something, but it’s more of nothing, just some synthetic, chemical, indistinct sensation that makes your eyes water.
I liked the original Potent Rien, prior to 2014 best. This Intense version is the same scent as the new Rien which I like. It is a modern metallic, aldehydic, fougere like, and the Intense just dials up the intensity and longevity. But not realy worth having both. This one just gives you a buzz, but the buzz is not worth it. So I will just injoy my regular, softer Rien.
Update: Yes, this Intense version is closer to the original (pre 2014) Rien in strength or intensity. What I think they did when this came out in 2014, they made regular Rien milder. I think it will be the most popular of the Riens. If you miss the intensity of the old Rien you will have to buy the Rien Intense Incense. It’s a fair marketing ploy, to keep everyone happy. The lovers of the original Rien won’t be to pissed off, as they have an Intense version. Those who thought the original Rien was to harsh and unwearable, now can try the softer reformulation.
On a personal note: I think some of us as myself can have olfactory fatigue. As I wear fragrances daily, I noticed I wasn’t enjoying the subtle character of my fragrances. We may just start to crave a more intense fragrance or experience, a sensation. This can get base, and may be the carnal cravings, for sublimation.
I try to fast once a week from wearing frags. I want to enjoy the beauty and art of perfumery and be careful of some kind of addiction…
I think the new Rien is a nice modern scent, I believe it’s been reformulated, 2014. This new Intense version, just takes that basic scent, and adds some indistinct chemical harshness, others mentioned oil spill, petrol etc.
This may be bad perfumery, trying perhaps to entice the baser nature we have. The Bible speaks of Jesus and His church having a true heavenly fragrance. Drop me a message if you want to talk about this subject. Balsamic Incense in the Bible, a reciepe given to Moses used in worship, Exodus 30. An interesting subject.

A richer, stronger and deeper Rien. This perfume is also more sophisticated and beautiful than the original one. I find it to be less mothbally and much more masculine. A truly great fragrance. The scary bit: it doesn’t go away. I put it on about 4 days ago and I can still smell it on my wrist even though I bath everyday and wash my hands multiple times a day. This thing is like a perfume tatoo!

Wow, what can I say? I wanted to try this one because of the incense. I was look for a nice incense scent and I usually don’t like the generic stuff so I got myself a tester of this one. I sprayed only once but I was immediately surrounded by an almost choking leathery burning rubber kind of scent and I thought; this is not for me. (I don’t like strong leather scents but I was hoping this was more incense than leather)
But when it settled down after a while it became a heavenly sweet smoky and ambery incense fragrance.
Very, very good perfume! Don’t let the first blast of this scare you away!

It’s got its own noxious, bizarre power — imagine a huge gardenia display went up in flames, along with the plastic hose and watering can. A panic- and nausea-inducing floral apocalypse.

Due to the hype around this fragrance I decided to get some samples. The only place that have them right now is Twistedlily.com.
I got 5 1 Ml decants for $ 20 plus $ 5 for shipping. I received them perfectly labeled. After reading ravishing reviews, about it’s power and longevity, I was expecting nothing short of Interlude performance and vibe. I couldn’t be more disappointed!!
To my nose it smells like a very soft , soapy incense. Just like those incense sticks you get in a long box for burning. For my first wearing I almost used a whole 1 Ml decant, on both sides of my neck and still it didn’t proyect much!. There was, in the opening a bitter note, almost like burning rubber, probably the leather, which faded away in about 1 hour, givin way to the soapy incense for the rest of the duration of the fragrance, with no changes. It smells kind of cheap to me. When I got to work, the girl who I was releaving said to me I smelled like incense.
I guess after wearing Amouage’s power houses everything else smells lame and cheap, but it is just the feeling I get. I don’t get the other reviews, in which is described as very macho and powerful, I can’t smell none of that, to me this is a perfect, safe, soft, unisex frag.Maybe they sent me the wrong cologne??, it is a possibility. I was very surprised also. In the mean time I will be checking Journey Man and Epic. This one is not for me!

I have the reforumulated version of the original Rien, and this is what I was hopeing that fragrance would be. This is a beautiful smokey leather with incense. It’s very linear and lasts forever. This is a must buy for anyone out there into dark, smokey fragrances. I love the bottle also, very well done.

  31. :

This fragrance is dark and sexy. I didn’t get many notes from it but it had amazing staying power on my skin.

  32. :

    4 out of 5

This is not a more intense version of Rien, but it is slightly tweaked. It is a little more green, where the original Rien is slightly more tarry and synthetic. And of course, the incense is a little more pronounced, but the differences are minimal.
This scent is a bomb, but no more than the original Rien. It seems a bit more thought through and has a slightly smoother finish.
I don’t think it necessary to own both and I do not think lovers of Rien will find something in this Intense Incense version that they miss in Rien. But maybe those who find Rien just a tadtoo rough, this might be perfect. On the other hand, if you don’t like Rien at all, you won’t like this either.

  33. :

Smells much like the original ‘Rien’, but slightly less dirty. It has a pungent, lacquered quality. Brings to mind a brand spanking new Jaguar with oppressive black leather seats.
As with the original, it’s definitely a fragrance that wears you and not the other way around.

Two tiny spritz on my wrist and BAM! It immediately turned from *my sotd* to *the scent of the whole city*. The sky turned dark, thunders and lightning followed right away, people struggled at opening their umbrellas blown away by a scary wind. I’ve heard a couple of car crashes, ambulances, dogs hawling, people screaming. The Duomo’s structural integrity weakened and then, the whole building collapsed. It was mayhem.
    WOW!
I mean, seriously, wow! This stuff’s opening is really quite something. It’s basically Rien amped up at the Nth-power (cough cough) and with an extra dose of…*something else*. Yes, it is obviously incensey but it’s also very clean. There’s a juxtaposition between the dirty vibe of the former Rien and something I would classify as *pure*. It might actually be the synergy between the extra dose of incense and the aldehydes. I’m still trying to figure it out but it’s definitely something to experience. It made me smile but then I realized I was actually grinning.
Well, for the first 30 minutes it literally blew me away. Yes, I had to shout to communicate with anyone who was trying to interact with me because Rien Incense Intense was screaming all over the place but it was totally worth it.
Then, suddenly, the inner monster living inside this incarnation of Rien took a Xanax and fell asleep and all I was left with was my dear ol’ Rien.
Now, I LOVE Rien to pieces but I’m still not sure RII is full bottle worthy for those who already own the original. With that said, if you don’t own any version of Rien, go for this! Absolutely!!! It’s everything you get from Rien plus an extra 30 minutes of unseen footage.

It amuses me that the guys at Etat Libre d’Orange deciced we needed an intense version of “Rien”, a strong fragrance per se.
Regular “Rien” and this intense edition share quite the same notes so I’m curious to see what was amplified here (the incense I suppose… not that it needed being amplified, but…).
