Description

Van Cleef & Arpels is launching Reve, a new fragrance for women, in May 2013. Reve combines notes of fruits and white flowers that give almost oriental character. The scent is lively and multifaceted as it is a world of dreams that it represents. Top notes include pear and neroli, while the floral heart intertwines osmanthus, peony and lily. The base notes are sandalwood and amber. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

The nose behind this fragrance is Nathalie Feisthauer.

This is a beautiful perfume!! At first sniff I thought it was ordinary then 5 minutes later I was in heaven! I have the roll on version which comes with a beautiful faux leather carrying case. I’ve learned an important lesson today. The price of a perfume does not always reflect its quality or one’s personal appreciation of it. This perfume is feminine and delightful. It has no jarring notes. It is spring blossoming in a bottle. I will be shortly purchasing a fb to go with my roll on.

love at first sight. it opens as pear and white floral, then peony appears, after 1 hours or so, the woody note and amber kicks in. all the notes blended in a harmonious way, pleasant and well-balanced.
it just smells like what it is described, and totally my cup of tea. i usually like perfumes that contain peony, and i would always pick the peony one in those duty-free sea of perfume situation.
it is elegant and woman-like. i wish i discover it earlier. it is not commonly seen in the city i live and i m glad that i can test it and get a bottle.
mild sillage and 2-3 hours longevity. reasonable to me for fruity floral.

I really like the opening of this perfume, is like real, natural and juicy fruit smell, is delicious, but after that fruity dream, it wake me up stinging on my nose. The opening feels bright, fresh and “round”, it kisses you, but then it is “pointed” it pinches you, so (of course all this under my own perception) it feels a little uncomfortable. At the end is soft and velvety, a little powdery, which for me is nice.

Received a free sample of reve today when I bought something else,it’s written on it that “reve is scent of a bouquet of delicate white flowers and juicy pear”.it definitely hits the point
Reve is a sparkly floralfruity without anything extraordinary, however it’s very pretty, feminine, tender, soft and clean.truely lovely
Pear appears in the opening to provide a juicy, fresh, fruity undertone,I love pear in perfumes and it’s so natural smelling here but it soon becomes more about florals.there’s soft, creamy white florals(I can detect lily and something like magnolia!)and a rose-like peony.I can’t pickup much amber or sandalwood just it becomes a little warmer, softer and a tad powdery in drydown
I know there’s lots of pretty smelling floralfruity fragrances out there, nice but without any wow factor, but I think reve is one of the nicest and most balanced ones.not everyone likes heavy orientals or chypers so if you’re into a delicate, youthful and light scent, give this one a try
For me,it’s a spring, summer and also a day scent.good for daily use, office wear and even for dates.longevity is good for it’s softness, lasts about 4 hours on my skin then I can smell a whisper of soft clean florals for another 2-3 hours, like a skin washed with a creamy floral soap.sillage is soft to moderate on me
I maybe consider buying a bottle of this lovely scent for this spring and summer
    Edit:
I used up my sample and now I know that I want it in my collection. I usually like simple and pretty floralfruities at first but they bore me very soon, not in this case.pear, lily and peony are my most favorite notes in a floralfruity so no wonder it appeals to me this much.it’s bright, feminine and delicately sweet.simply lovely! More important that my man likes it and complements me whenever I wear it

    floral soapy wood.
nice alternative if you love Eternity Moment, to layer the two together is even greater.

This is a blind buy, based on reviews here. Very Summer-y and ”young” carefree fragrance. Fresh, creamy, bright florals, a lot of peonies and white flowers, some pear and not much sandalwood or amber. At least don’t feel them. I thought I smell some rose in this but I don’t see it in the ingredients.. strange. The opening is not my fave- very strong alcohol smell, good that it goes away in a few minutes, but it’s suffocating at first.. Overall, very happy with this blind buy. I feel it will be great for the days when I am not sure exactly what I want to wear- it is very pleasant, yet inoffensive and yes, even mainstream. Still: fresh and pleasant. Somehow it reminds of Burberry Body, minus the woodsy-cashmere notes of Body of course, Reve is like some much much lighter and more carefree version of it. Since I like Body, I like this one as well 🙂
Will come back later to report on its lasting power…
EDIT: yep, like expected with fruity floral scets, this doesn’t last long. 3-4 hours on my skin, a little longer on clothes. After that there is just a delicate soapy trace. I am starting to feel the pear more and more in this, right from the beginning..

VC & A was late to the party with this one. This Floral Fruity with pear is reminiscent of Brit Eau de Toilette, released 9 years prior. This popularity of this genre persists, though, and so this scent maintains a place in today’s market.
The opening is a sparkling, fruity, synthetic melange with Aldehydes, a heavy spray of Neroli, and an overdose of Pear (which almost always feels cheap to me in a perfume…it is always synthetic, and feels immature. Not youthful, but immature). Peony, one of my favorite pink floral notes, is obscured given its placement in the heart, where Osmanthus and Lily (certainly of the Easter variety) smother it.
After about 15 minutes, the heart settles down and blends into the base, which does sport a nice Sandal. The Amber is generic. The sparkly pear persists throughout the entire composition, much to my chagrin giving a nuance of acridity. All in all, a decent perfume, but not one I would ever wear personally, based more on its misuse of note than of its genre.
Longevity is 4-5 hours, and sillage can be overwhelming at first, so use caution.

Got my 100 ml bottle today. Blind buy, however, if I had the chance to test it first, the result would be the same! I love this! Think it’s a must-have for the summer, although can be easily worn in any season. Very inoffensive, stylish, subtle, feminine, clean…and mainstream. Just the way I like it. More citrusy when sprayed on clothes, definitely floral when sprayed on skin.

I love most every Van Cleef & Arpels fragrance. There is something for most every woman in their lineup: young and playful, understated yet complex elegance, and the vixen that likes to come out and play once in a while.
Reve is a very lighthearted thoughtful fruity type floral fragrance that is just divine. It’s a great scent for the woman who appreciates simplicity but wants something that is maybe on the more sensual side of the spectrum when the sun goes down. Is it a fragrance that will make a statement? Depends on the statement one is trying to make. It’s just a very straightforward yet not in the least bit aggressive type of fragrance that is universally appealing.

I wrote in winter about how I love this one. Now it’s summer here, and now I smell more peony and lilly. Still very pleasant on my skin, specially in the morning. It gives me a very clean and fresh feeling! It’s close to my skin but that’s ok for me.

  14. :

It’s nice and pleasant and well-made.
Not special enough to me, but I have nothing negative to say about it at all. In fact, it is very balanced, not too fruity, not too floral, not too sweet but also not too fleetingly fresh, quite lush, projects well, but doesn’t overwhelm those around you. Great ‘starter’ perfume for those experimenting with white florals — this is what a nice scent should be!
I would suggest it as a great gift for a reasonably young woman (i.e., someone who has not graduated to more complex or heavier fragrances) — nice brand, which is not commonly features in department stores, a beautiful bottle, and a great scent.
Would be great for school / work as it is not aggressive and is just very pleasing. One is sure to get plenty of compliments on that.
It smells very similar to an Avon perfume I had 10 or so years ago. Not that there is anything wrong with Avon, but Reve is really a dead ringer for that perfume. I tried to find out its exact name, but man, Avon has been rather fruitful in making perfumes.

This one crowns my new-found love for white florals. I had no idea I loved white florals so much, until I tried this one! I am so so so happy I received a big bottle, but at the rate I’m using it, it’s not gonna last till autumn :p
A grown-up floral fruity, “Reve” has a dream-like softness to it. No sharp notes, everything is round, soft, sweet, elegant, bright, pleasant. This one might not be for those looking for a statement perfume. This is comfort in a bottle, perfect for warmer days.

Me, who is constant changing…and so is my body chemestry. I sprayed this parfume today, it’s cold here. And now the smell is very beautyful on me! So different then last year. 🙂 always give things a second try. Now I smell pear and orange flower, followed by peony. So funny how your nose is working.
If I wear this one word pops in my mind; Paris. I feel like a Parisian woman walking true this romantic city in winter. It’s almost Christmas and I feel fresh and rosy… this is a unique sent, feel unique.

    6 perfumers for this Reve?!?
I tried it a few times from testers and every time I feel just meh.
It could be the pear that I don’t like or the acquatic edge, but Reve never finished to convince me.
I much prefer the other ones by Van Cleef & Arpels.
Reve is a gentle thin floral and dreamy scent with no great personality nor originality.
A stronger take on osmanthus could give it a more uplifting and thick quality.
It’s quite pleasant, politely put, good quality, almost safe if you don’t mind the pungent ozonic note.
Not my kind, but it may suit the taste of ozonic/acquatic fruity lovers.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Although it is a pleasant scent, I didn’t find it too special. It reminds me a bit of J’adore, especially the beginning note. Definitely lighter than J’adore and less interesting.

  19. :

    5 out of 5

Rêve is a very well done fruity floral. In the opening and the heart it’s subtly sweet and subtly tart, exactly like such a fragrance should be, but it still has its own character. At this point it’s all pear surrounded by flowers, quite fresh. Later on the sandalwood and amber come out to deepen the sweetness.
I like this scent, it makes me feel more carefree, but it doesn’t make my heart beat any faster. It’s very nice; I especially enjoy the great freshness in the very beginning and the sweetness in the drydown. But as a fragrance it’s not very original and it isn’t in any of the categories that I can’t get enough of regardless of originality, either. So I’m glad I have a big sample/small decant of this, so that I’ll be able to return to it a couple of times next summer, but I don’t think I need a full bottle.

Intense floral scent, mostly lily. Nice, but you have to love strong floral bouquets to be able to love it.

Like a dream -it’s there, it’s not there, it’s there again but showing another side of it. It’s playing and therefore attracting.
Light, but long lasting (on me) , not unique, but beautiful because of its pureness, simplicity and feminine vibe. Sometimes you just don’t want anything more, but a fresh and easily wearable scent.
I agree to those who have compared it to Feerie- yes, this comes from the same shelf, but this is more fruity than Feerie (Feerie is more green, woody). The neroli and osmanthus notes are wonderful here, they are well balanced by the pear (juicy, “filled” with sun). Instead of the listed lily I get the lily-of-the-valley and some light green tea. The drydown is sensual and warm like a mild, warm summer evening after a hot and sunny day.

Such a wonderful, fruity, sparkling floral. I adore the pear, but I wouldn’t call it candied. It’s freshly cut pear and it’s just sweet enough to leave you feeling so very youthful and pretty, while staying on the mature, classy side of sweet. If Reve had a look, it would be radiant and luminous, like a morganite gemstone.
    Longevity is great, 8+ hrs.
Projection is good, too, especially when sprayed on my clothes and in my hair. It lasts over 24 hrs. in my hair.
I have to thank Lily2911 for this beauty. It’s going in my top 5.

I believe parfums are all unique and different as the individuals who wear them. Because we all have our own body scent, each parfum is going to smell differently on us. When I smelled the sample it was not appealing to me. However, as it was sprayed on my body, the scent changed. It worked really well with my body’s natural scent. I love it and I’ve had numerous compliments on it 🙂 it is a lighter scented parfum which is what I generally prefer.

  26. :

Fresh and bright, but it’s not that kind of freshness I like. It’s white floral freshness. I sense a lot of peony in it.
The scent is floral and clean, no sweetness at all. I think it’s suitable for office work or school. Nothing offensive, but a little boring.

  27. :

It reminds me a bit of Feerie with a hint of pepper( i know, pepper is not listed in the notes). But it turns into ‘peach’ after a while. Pleasant scent.

    Hi Joan100,
The rose you smell is the peony. So,your nose is right!
Peony is the first ingredient I smell very clear. To me it’s not a very special parfum. Good for office or casual daytime. Maybe it smells better in spring/summer ( it’s almost winter here ) … Not longlasting at all on my skin.

  33. :

    4 out of 5

I can obviously pick up a strong rose smell throughout even though its not listed on the notes/ingredients. Its amazing how much additional ingredients I can smell in many perfumes that dont even have them in it. Maybe its just my sense of smell. Its a pleasant not your typical fruity/floral fragrance nonetheless. Reminds me a bit of Feerie EDP from the same brand. Good for daily wear.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

Very light fragrance, suitable for after a shower .if you are looking for an impressive or memorable perfume this is not it . Not what you’d expect from Van Cleef.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

I tried it on my skin a couple of times and although could not remember the scent like I do remember most fragrances (perhaps this one is not so distinctive) I really loved it! Don’t like too sweet perfumes and this one was just right, a light one. I would say it is a great feminine scent for any woman of any age, depends more on style and personality rather than age.

  36. :

Got a sample today… the card said something about juicy pear. Well it’s pear all right, too ripe, too sweet almost nauseating, so strong that you almost forget about the white flowers behind.
What should be fresh and clean becomes a dessert syrup. Too bad !

I bought a bottle today after testing it. I loved it but… on the way home something nasty came up. Don’t know witch note it is but I somehow don’t like it that much anymore 🙁 …. so a pitty! However I opened the box and will use the parfume.

Nice and lovely but nothing new. Pear and white flowers are very present, so this perfume is very delicate. To me it´s not juicy enough and it seems something is missing.
Better for delicate, discreet women. (The bottle is really beautiful)

a beautiful ..sensual..live..perfume..i simply love it..its so fresh yet sophisticated..its fine and dainty yet strong and confident..reve is that kind of perfume that you can just spray on and go ..go anywhere.. and you will feel relaxed.. confident.. and get many compliments ..of you smelling nice.. not the perfume taking over your natural beauty ..its those kinds of perfumes ..that enhance your natural beauty.. and cent.. its a softish skin scent.. that is actually smelled from far.. yet not impulsive.. or repulsive or in your face ..its almost velvety.. dreamy.. floraly.. dry.. sweetish.. whitish.. muskish ..truly amazing in every way..
it smells serene.. delicious.. full.. mellow ..tantalizing..energising ..all in one..its dreamy in an awakened state of being..its the kind of perfume you dont have to worry about.. and think of how it will project or over whelm.. ..its an easy perfume to wear.. day or night.. summer or autumn.. and even winter..its clean.. clean.. clean.. in a seductive.. feminine.. soft ..pure.. way yet full of heart.. and mind ..full of lusciousness and hope..
its a perfume made to make you go about your day confident.. and happy.. and everyone will compliment you on your smell..your smell ..not the perfume you are wearing.. there is the difference between reve and other perfumy perfumes ..that people ask you.. oh what perfume are you wearing?..in reeve they will just say oh you smell divine..so its a really personal perfume..that has a story a heart and a soul.. its the nice next door neighbour..its the perfect spring.. summer perfume.. alive.. fresh..french.. clean.. happy yet sensual and very feminine..i am not a big floral fan but when i used it i fell in love with all its luscious white and other florals.. that make it sing.. ..as if you get whiff of each note with a flower handed to you with a kiss..thats how i feel about reve..simply a pleasurable perfume.. to wear.. more of a morning to evening and afternoon scent.. but can go all night and even in to your sleep and sweet dreams…

Lovely, lovely, lovely perfume. It is wondefull and I get plenty of compliments. I dont understand how people are saying this scent is common, after being massively attacked by overly sweet fruity or candylike perfumes these last few years (can’t stand it, YUCK!).
This smells exquisite. For me it is perfect.
    P.S
I see some people comparing it to Gucci Premiere. Doesn’t bear a remote similarity. Beside the fact that the two JUST DON’T SMELL ALIKE: The Gucci is boring as hell, just an “ordinary office scent” , not exciting what so ever, with an annoying “perfumy” drydown. Reve on the other hand ( literaly) is so unique, Complex, with lots of faces. I don’t understand how people with such educated noses ( much more then mine) such as the people here in fragrantica call it “Ordinary office scent”, and don’t see the multifaceness of this wonderfull scent.

I thought orange blossom was at the heart because it opens quite fruity while Orange blossom seems to open later. I do not find it anything special, quite a mediocre fruity floral not even particularly pleasant from my viewpoint. Also, I find it too weak. Van cleef and Arpels’ fragrances seem to be quite disappointing these days, bearing in mind their older fragrances. I really like Van Cleef for women, First and Gem, now out of production, and even Murmure and Birmane were from my viewpoint great scents. This downwards path when it comes to fragrances seems to be common to other designer brands as well, these days.

nothing new and unexpectable at all… Reve is a nice ordinary office scent with fruity begining, gentle floral heart and universal base

  46. :

Reve is frankly speaking nice fruity white floral, though too ordinary for such mighty brand as Van Cleef & Arpels. The bigger problem is that Reve smells like a warmer copy of last year’s Gucci Premiere: the same mix of white flowers, fruits and a little amount of woody notes. Premiere hasn’t become really popular, that’s why I’m anxious about the future of the Reve and of the whole Van Cleef & Arpels perfumes subdivision.
The bottle in real life is nothing spectacular.

Reve means dream in french, and not only is the bottle beautiful, including the pink/peach color, so is the fragrance!!! It starts off fresh, brightly fresh, then gets softly floral quite fast, with green undertones, but the progression is smooth , creamy, hence the name Reve, this is a watercolour scent of notes, all feminine, velvety, I get mostly the lily, osmsnthus in the background, the sandalwood isn’t very present, so I cant say I detect woodsy undertones yet
I just received it from France, my first impression is how lovely!!! The scent is opening up so nicely, balmy, a tad powdery, it is stylish., classyyet romantic and soft . It isn’t unforgettable for sure, it isn’t either a smoldering sexy complex scent, but it is pretty , easy to wear, overall nice..
