Usually I fall in line with the consensus bar on the “Love/like/dislike” scale. Well… not this time. I’m not really even sure where to start. The opening is brutal. While it smells nothing like myths man by amouage, the opening is ever bit as poisonous. Harsh, chemically tobacco mixed with spice and sadness. A dry, woody, mess. The drydown is bearable – but only barely. If you’ve ever been into a gas station – and the clerk is burning incense – it kind of smells like that. Pungent and offensive. I’m a huge fan of mancera. I genuinely think it’s one of – if not the best house on the market. But this is brutal.

The perfect marinade for your chops.
You will not go wrong at all.
Strong, spicy, dark, but sweet too.
So good in fact you could spray it on some brioche and eat it.

Red is for the burning astringent medicinal vibe from what i would guess to be synthetic oud. Stongest in the opening, it lasts throughout. Underneath is a dark and damp sweet vanillac tobacco that is interesting because it also has nuances of the dry variety. Its not my style, but still exceptional in concept. Performance is potent with a few dabs to the forearm easily overpowering my sotd for the last ten hours.

Another stellar performer from Mancera. Aptly named RED tobacco. Soooo much cinnamon. To my nose, this spice dominates the rest of the composition drowning out the other players, with tobacco in the background. Definitely niche. Not something you would consider a “dumb grab”. I bought it blind based on the notes and have worn it twice. This 120 mL bottle will last into the next millennium. Unisex. Great for an autumn day spent outdoors.

This is one is rather unique.
Oud + saffron + tobacco (cacao / fruits in the opening) is what I get the most.
And I can’t get past the saffron note as in Versace Man. It does share similarities, by the way.
To me, it would suit perfectly on a woman.
So overall it is pleasant, cozy and not too powerful and it does last.

First of all shout out to GODKING for educating me on this fabulous NICHE fragrance…
This Monster fills the room for about 4/6 hours in my case…
People were entering my fully air conditioned lounge and from a distance they would notice a the smell and greatly compliment me.
    This is a must try…
Leave the hate and try it yourself.
    Thank again GODKING

The opening is quite discordant. There’s a weird menthol-like fresh note on top that I find piercing and unpleasant. After it calms down, the smell wafting around (spicy cherry tobacco) is actually very nice at times, but I can’t help noticing the annoyingly sharp and synthetic Mancera base lurking in the background. It’s very distinct and unfortunately ruins many of their creations with its aggressiveness. The performance is pretty damn close to beast mode.
With that said, steer clear unless you like the Mancera style. In my opinion Phaedon offers a much better alternative with Tabac Rouge.

Sweet tobacco cherry bomb! Filled the whole floor after 8 hours using only 2 half sprays on the back of my neck. Smelled hints of it deep into the night! 10/10

Reminds me of Cherry Skoal. Nurse it beneath your bleeding gums and spit it on the wall.

Vibrant and energetic – an instant mood booster. This scent has so much lift, and I get a little rush after the initial sniff. There are no rough edges with this one, no “What the hell is that note?” moments or experimental arabesques (although I love those, too). Just clean, incisive perfection, through and through. High quality without being showy, like a well-made leather jacket or understated luxury car.
I love the tobacco/patchouli/saffron/vetiver combination, and this is a sublime example of their heavenly cohesion. The spicy fruit (supposedly pear and green apple, but it reads as cherry to me) adds effervescence, with sandalwood and oud, that long-lasting powerhouse duo, underscoring the composition. It’s true that it has something of a synthetic vibe, but I find it totally acceptable and even somewhat crucial to the impact of the scent overall.
Perfectly unisex; it would smell good on anyone and anything. You could squirt Red Tobacco on a jug of sour milk and I’d probably cuddle with it. It’s strong, so spray sparingly until you get a feel for it. Very long-lasting (8-10 hours on my skin) and the sillage is great (radiates within 6 feet or so) without being a face-slapper.
It’s pricey but not exorbitant, and worth every cent. This is my first experience with the Mancera house (what have I even been doing with my life until now?) and I’m looking forward to exploring more of their selections.

Received my bottle in the mail a couple days ago. I am in love with Red Tobacco! First thought was I can’t wait till cooler weather to wear this. Second thought was screw it Im going to wear it on this hot July day. Went to the grocery and received compliment after compliment. Put it up till cooler weather but I’m not promising I can wait that long.

    Smells rather intriguing and daring.
It is as if the intent was to make a red fruit femme fatale fragrance.
I get the nuance, but not smell of red fruit, like you were smelling the skin of a pomegranate, I get a mellow, slightly dry and provocative leather, I get a resinous red candy smell that is tamed, like old cherry jolly ranchers with little or no sweetness. Mix this strange concoction in with some red leather purse and you get Red Tobacco
Overall it is very smooth, quality and unique. I find it unisex and much better on a women.
The kind of thing Cat Woman might wear at a party in a red dress

I purchased Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint on reviews here.
Unfortunately in a rare instance I could not see a positive at all – I thought it was just cough decongestant – a lemon mint mush – very synthetic. I said as much. I also said that on alternative sites Mancera seemed to be building either a super good rep that was too good to be true or people were negative – uniformly criticising the brands ethos for powerful longevity and synthetic mess.
I gave Mancera a SECOND TRY – I wanted a new Tobacco smell so I give this a try and…
    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The negatives are onto something… another HORRID synthetic mess… the note table is NOT DISCERNIBLE… I get a CHERRY BLAST (not even in the notes), WITH A SYNTHETIC TOBACCO. It lasts a few hours before turning into an earthy smell that lasts ages. Where on earth are those notes – totally indiscernible – i can only think it is a highly synthetic concoction to get it so bound – maybe someone can shed light?
Seekritdude below seems to have a similar feel for it that describes what I broadly smell. GodKing below seems to be atypical and frightening as I can not easily detect of the layers he has. Others here seem to praise the longevity as if that is the most important aspect of a perfume.
Im sorry, I can only think if the reviews here say its a gorgeous blend of this and that I can only think you are creative or work for the company. Only 3 scents have ever stumped me as to their make up including this.
CHerry flavoured cough syrup. THATS IT. Period.
It vaguely smells like the Parfum version of L’Homme Ideal by Guerlain except that had depth and was fun to smell continuosly though even then I prefer the EDT.
I’ll stick with SL Chergui, PDM Herod and Feuilles en Tabac from Miller Harris turn out to be all I need for Tobacco though Back 2 Black is also on my list.
I will trust my instincts next time and will not ever venture into another Mancera.
EDIT: I let my friend try it and it had a much better smell. It would appear that maybe the formula Mancera use in their broad perfume make up does not agree with my skin? Regardless I still found it average for the price.

Absolutely love it. It’s a like a soft tobacco cloud to float on. I will enjoy it come colder weather most definitely.

A fragrance like Red Tobacco is so not my thing … and yet, suddenly, it is! Spicy, peppery, honey, deliciousness!
I find it a bit too masculine, so I layer it with either Farmacia Annunziata’s Vaniglia di Madagascar or Montale’s Vanille Absolu. When layered, I get a super spicy, amazing, alluring fragrance that’s perfectly toned down without becoming too sweet.
The perfume is high quality and powerful. It lasts beyond 12 hours and projects almost too much. The scent never decays or morphs into something foul like perfumes from some of the houses do. It smells as amazing–though slightly fainter–in hour 12 as it did in hour 1.
    Worth the money.

Mancera Red Tobacco is a stunning fragrance, that is masterfully blended, and I love each facet from the opening, to the heart, to its gorgeous drydown. This is a masculine fragrance done right and that commands respect. Well-done!
As with many Mancera fragrances, Red Tobacco opens aggressively as it oozes testosterone and pheromones wherever it was applied to my skin. In the process, I am repeated whacked about the neck and shoulders with masculine waves of spices, woods, cinnamon, sweet-incense and that oud-saffron Mancera DNA that reaches-out, grabs two fists-full of chest-hair, and yanks them out by the roots. By the roots…bloody roots, no less!
Such an opening will leave the boys and girls withering in pain and crying tears of great sorrow as this fragrance will punch these people in the face and piss in their bowl of Wheaties. Simply stated, Red Tobacco is not a fragrance for the faint of heart or wimps, gimps and chimps! You have been warned…
Initially I do not sense a strong tobacco accord (mainly the spices, dark-woods, sweet notes and Mancera DNA) but within a minute or two a smooth-as-silk, spiced-honey, tobacco vibe begins to emerge. It’s still aggressive. but think of Red Tobacco as being Mike Tyson sporting a dinner jacket as this stage. If you hold your head-up confidently and don’t make strange faces nor eye-contact, then you’ll live to enjoy the experience. But look directly into the eyes of Red Tobacco and you’ll be spitting out your teeth like a box of Chicklets Chewing Gum.
Assuming you’ve kept your mouth shut and avoided making eye-contact, you may, like I did, experience momentary wafts of Pure Havane layered with Pure Malt during the first 30-minutes. I am not saying that Red Tobacco is a Pure Havane clone (that would be silly talk) but I am saying there is a boozy, woody, spiced-honey, tobacco vibe that may trigger some of these olfactory memories.
Over the next 4-6 hours this uber-masculine scent slowly, and I mean very slowly, transitions as the tobacco pushes forward along with the amber, vanilla and sandalwood making for a gorgeous creamy, spicy, woody, red tobacco scent. This stage of the fragrance is hard to describe, but it smells spanktacular! However, Red Tobacco has saved its very best for last…and I’ll be you’re dying to find-out what happens next.
Ater the six-hour mark, and well into the drydown, Red Tobacco transitions yet again and it now resembles the more potent, avocado sized doodads, big brother of Commme des Garcons Sequoia (dark woods, spices and a sweetness backed with oud), which is one of my favorite fragrances of all time.
Performance of Red Tobacco is Mancera-like in that it lasts an honest 12-16 hours on my skin and projects quite well for the first 3-4 hours, and leaves a nice scent trail, but it does not border into beast mode territory on my skin. Moreover, you will smell Red Tobacco for DAYS should you spray it on your clothes.
Overall, I feel that Red ‘Sequoia’ Tobacco is the best release from Mancera during 2017 and it proudly occupies a special place in my Scent Armory. Although this is a manly-man fragrance, I am sure a strong woman could probably rock this one quite well. As much as I personally love it, this fragrance is a definite “Try” because it will be way too much “Oompfh” for those who are into the lighter, fresher, tobacco scents.

I have both this and Honey Aoud. To me this is better because it is less cloyingly sweet, even though it is still noticeably sweet. I also like that the tobacco note is fresh and light, not heavy or stale. This is the first tobacco fragrance I’ve ever liked and I’m a big fan of it now. Recommended!

This is gorgeous. Tobacco is my favourite note and this needs to be added to my collection stat!
Tobacco, patchouli, vanilla and cinnamon are the stars of the show for me. It’s a sweet tobacco scent, almost honeyed tobacco but not quite as sweet. The opening can be quite harsh and potent, but it does settle down. Easy on the trigger on this one, it’s a strong fragrance. The woods add a base, but are not main players to my nose.
    Well done Mancera!

Wow, what glee-what greatness, what ambience with such precision!!
Red Tobacco, I have been waiting for this for some time now.
First spray, I get spicy cinnamon, but also a spicy sharp fruity opening; (perhaps a somewhat similar opening to that of Aoud Blue Notes with the fruits, yet different more sharp, more oudy…) as it dries down the Oud comes through quite nicely, however not over-powering.
Red Tobacco has a great balance of Oud, spices, Fruits along with the Vanilla and Jasmine. The Tobacco, Sandalwood, and Patchouli really gives this fragrance its uniqueness and blended balance.
There is nothing like this that I can think of…
However, to give you a point of reference think Aoud Vanille’s vanilla sweetness coupled with Aoud Blue Notes’ fruity oud sharpness with a touch of Aoud Lemon Mint sharp spiciness. This gives you a taste of what Red Tobacco is like, however more.
As with all (at least most) Mancera fragrances, you want to be very careful with the trigger as this is very POTENT! Again, great smell, but POTENT; if you’re not careful this fragrance has the potential of being cloying!!
If you are somewhat ambivalent to Aoud Vanille because of it’s strong spicy vanilla or Aoud Blue Notes due to its over the top fruits, Red Tobacco IMHO gives the perfect balance as it sits right in the middle of the two!! (shh…..this is what I think Aoud Blue Notes might have been aiming for, just sayin’)
    Glad I have a bottle!!
    Performance: 9/10
    Projection: 9/10
    Longevity: 10/10
    Silage: 8.5/10
    Overall: 9/10

Kinda a mess to me, or at least a bunch of different things mixed together. If we are to forget the somewhat harsh opening that has a fair amount of kick to it, and even a sort of hay kinda note.
I get something like it begins with a sort of harsher rougher smelling ambre narguile. Its got a bit of that apple cinnamon pie vibe going on.
But besides that there is also a sorta jammy and pasty yet.. Sparkly fruit punch note to this as well.
As this sorta rougher yet..sparkly jammy fruit punch version of ambre narguile starts to die down, it starts to lean towards more the smell of something like pure havane.
Except a bit of that sparkle lingers to tickle your nose instead of pure havanes styrax mix.
Although that being said when you do take big heavy breaths of this in at the dry down, you get that sorta amber mix that can smell a little like smooth rubber or plastic I think underneath the well again pure havane kinda smell.
So ya its a bunch of stuff mixed together, ambre narguile+pure havane+harsher notes+ plastic rubbery amber+sparkly fruit punch jam+that initial half hour
A meh/ok for me.. Nothing special imo. But performance is good

Mancera Red Tobacco seems to be one of the house’s most anticipated releases of late, along with Black Vanilla. It’s inherently difficult for a scent to keep pace with the frenzy surrounding it when the frenzy becomes widespread in the community like it did for Red Tobacco recently, but with that in mind, it’s a well-done scent, and aptly-named, the “red” connoting the warmth and spiciness (and perhaps even fruitiness) that are obvious attributes of the scent from the opening into the dry down.
The standout notes are tobacco, cinnamon, and incense, giving it a clear “spicy, smoky tobacco” center, with some light fruits sprinkled in as well as a woody, earthy blend of oud, vetiver, guaiac, and musk that sit in the background.
Overall, I like it, but my main criticism is that it’s almost too effective at being red, my tentative conclusion being that it’d almost be better if the spicy aspects were more toned down, more nuanced.
Still, I’d recommend everyone try this out, especially men, as it’s stereotypically a bit masculine, though as with most scents, I could see a lot of people enjoying it.
The other pluses are obvious: the same strong performance we’ve come to expect from Mancera (and Montale), and decent value, even at full retail ($180 for 120ml at Luckyscent, among other choices), though it’s bound to be on the secondary market soon enough.

Although I have loved nice fragrances since I was a teen (and that was in the eighties, sigh), I have just recently become more interested in fragrances. Therefore I don’t feel qualified to really ‘review’ a scent. I can’t tell the different notes, like experienced fragrance lovers do. Still, I wanted to add to these reviews that when I tried Red Tobacco, I had the same experience Tassio12 had (see below). A harsh chemical smell that just won’t go away. I sampled it twice, because I really wanted to like this fragrance (since there’s a lot in Red Tobacco that I do like). But it’s a no for me, I just can’t stand that harsh chemical tone. I’m currently wearing the same sweater I wore when I sampled Red Tobacco the second time, more than a week ago. I hadn’t worn that sweater since. And to my surprise, that same chemical smell is still lingering in my right sleeve (and I hadn’t even sprayed it on my sweater, I tested it on my right arm). So much so that it now even drowns out the fragrance that I’m currently wearing! By the way, I had exactly the same experience when I tried Parfums de Marly Pegasus, some time ago. I’m wondering if it’s the same ingredient, because I’m quite certain it’s the same chemical smell that bothers me. Anyway, just a word of warning for people who tend to blind buy. Red Tobacco seems to react quite differently on different skins.

Is this considered a sexy fragrance (or e.g., is it polarizing or does it fall under those artistic types), and is it blind buy worthy?

  31. :

    3 out of 5

Nuclear strength spiced tobacco in the vein of Tobacco Vanille et al. There are nuances that make this worth checking out for fans of the genre.
I like it enough, but I’m getting a harsh chemical vibe even deep into the dry down (10 hours in). Could be my body chemistry I suppose. Sometimes it is okay for a fragrance to disappear or recede into skin scent territory after a day 🙂

This is not a smooth gourmand tobacco vanilla scent like TV at all. First time I sprayed Red Tobacco, I was transported to smelling the acrid inside of my grandfather’s well-used pipe the morning after he smoked it. Then I realized that the initial sharp edge is tobacco, oud, and patchouli tempered by some fruits. As it dries down, vanilla, spices, and ambery incense emerge, and it becomes addictive and quite memorable. It’s unlike any other tobacco fragrance I have smelled, and will have a regular place in my winter rotation.

Lately, i’ve gotten away from ubiquitous brands. With that being said, I can’t deny the allure of something “red.” My blood pressure is rising just by looking at the bottle. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Red can mean love or Red can mean danger. Mentally, I was prepared for both. This is a fragrance with a ton of energy swirling with vanilla and fruit and jasmine. As the bouquet unravels, an armed conflict takes place between sweet accords and warm accords. All while the notes are seemingly jockeying for position, the tobacco ingredient is on the verge of exploding like a hissing radiator. As ominous as that may sound, what’s to become is the antithesis of danger. At this point, the fragrance just reached the “I might have to buy this” zone. And just for you worrywarts, this fragrance exhibits some real authority in the longevity and sillage department. This is a very determined fragrance with each note performing at the top of its game. Red Tobacco’s fleecy elements have the same “weak at the knees” ability found in juggernaut orientals such as Naxos and Baccarat 540. If you’re reading this and you’re keeping score, that last sentence is a big compliment! This is a very passionate fragrance. It’s almost like it wants you to be excited with wearing it, sleeping with it, going out with it etc. Again, determined is the word that keeps popping in my mind. The cinnamon is the supermodel spice note responsible for that “liquid hug feeling” found throughout the duration. Wanting compliments = wanting Red Tobacco. Go ahead and cut through the red tape, I said so.

My initial impression of ‘Red Tobacco’ – I like it. I have to admit after one wearing (need far more time and more full wearings to give an educated opinion): I am not a big fan of the opening, but after about the 30-45 minute mark, the fragrance settles down, and the somewhat harsh opening settles into a beautiful, sexy fragrance where the tobacco, amber, vanilla and musk evolve. This is definitely a nice scent….and it’s pretty potent as well.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

There is something in the dry down that smells heavily of antiseptic. What I get on my skin, behind ears, wrist, or neck, is heavily chemical with an undertone of sweet tobacco. I can’t tolerate the chemical smell that continuously emanates from me for the last 8 hours. Consider trying this if you love tobacco, your experience may not be my own and the perfume has great longevity.

I’ve always thought of this brand as a scam…one worse than Montale (he created this brand because people wanted glass bottles lol) until now!
This scent is really surprisingly good! I couldn’t pinpoint it at first, but realized it’s almost somewhere between TF’s Tobacco Vanille & Oud Wood :O

I bought my bottle from Parfums De France as its one of the only Mancera distributors in the US. The first spray is a blast of camphor. In fact, I thought I was going to hate it.
I talked myself out of washing it off and I’m glad I did. The first 30 minutes was tough to deal with but I’m in love with it now.
I’m an hour in and the tobacco and vanilla are apparent. It smells like expensive tobacco scented candles.
This does not seem unisex at all. It’s a very masculine scent and definitely suitable for colder weather. I can’t smell many of the other notes listed but I don’t really care. If you want a refined tobacco scent this is really good. Just get through the first 30 minutes.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

    I get three different phases.
The first one is the one I like most which is TOBACCO and OUD.
Tobacco is not a dry version, it is soft and nice.
In the middle, though it lasts until the end and there is no way for me to get rid of it, I get the MADAGASCAR VANILLA, which to me is the gourmand type.
In my opinion a very feminine note.
Then, in the end (and it takes some time: let’s say about one hour) the vanilla still lingers but one can detect the wood and a hint of burned paper.
It is a very long lasting, cold weather fragrance and in my opinion not a bad one. Some might find it easy to wear but a bit boring. It’s got some Habit rouge by Guerlain way of being formal.
I think Tobacco Vanille from Tom Ford is much better.

    Hello Mancera fans!
Just received my full bottle of Red Tobacco (ordered directly from Mancera website).
First impression >>> 30 minutes after a full spray on my forearm >>> This is unlike anything in my collection.
Opens up with a blast of fruit, oudh and incense, quite sharp. If I had to describe the first minutes of this, would be smokey, oudh-y fruit jam (yes, I know).
20 minutes in the harshness died down, it is much more smooth and creamy, with the tobacco coming through more, the sweet pipe tobacco kind. This could definitely be unisex, although on my skin it tends more on the masculine side (oudh, patchouli, saffron). On performance my prognosis is this will have good but not stellar projection, but very good longevity. Even after 30 minutes my skin is still oily from the spray (like most Manceras) so be careful spraying this on clothes as it may stain.
    ***
*Disclaimer: this is a first impression review (heat of the moment), so take it with a grain of salt. I will not judge a fragrance upon just one application in one context, and neither should you. I will give this a few full wears and come back. There seems to be a lot of interest on this fragrance (among Mancera fans anyway) so I wanted to give my thoughts on it straight away.
P.S.: I also received samples of Black Vanilla, Gold Aoud and Pink Roses so I might give my few words on those as well after I give each a chance.
