So sad Target does not seem to carry the Sonia Kashuk line anymore. I never was able to get the one I really wanted, the WHITE one. But the others have been a lot of fun. Target has brought a better line out since the Kashuk scents, but I still like them for what they are. Bourcet’s quote is great: “There ain’t no shame in drugstore beauty.”
The bottle I got was not light. Red Promisia opens up like the roar of a dragon. Super powerful opening. Don’t spray this around others. Spray at least fifteen minutes before being around humans. At first, it’s just chemicals without being notes, but then cosmos forms from the chaos. Sandalwood comes forth, followed by vanilla. Jasmine changes from a flavor to a scent soon after. This has real character, especially for a cheapie. Nothing else smells like this. It’s not YET ANOTHER LVEB or CMad clone. And Red Promisia grows on you after a while. Weird and a little niche. Not generic at all. Cheap, yes, but adventurous.
For me, this can only be a wintertime scent because of its strength and vanilla base. In the heat, this could be too much.
But the best part is how well RP layers. Use it as a base for lighty flighty citrus scents (EA Green tea) and it really opens up.
The name is impossibly dopey but not as bad as Purple Seductia. (I like that one and plan to review it once I have worn it more, but would never tell anyone what I was wearing if they asked.) “Promisia.” Promise is derived from a 3rd conjugation Latin verb, and the -ia suffix is just so wrong. Well, it is no worse than Aqua Allegoria, etymologically.

A Targé sandalwood love affair. Longing for santal while shopping for Bounty. There ain’t no shame in drugstore beauty.

Excellent fragrance, if soft. I think sandalwood is often portrayed today as an airy, light scent, making it considerably different from, say, Samsara. That said, for what it is it is LOVELY.
I DO smell a resemblance to Adam Levine and also Nabeel King of Sandal. Red Promisia is sweeter, though, having a subtle Vanilla/floral note. Thus she comes across as being a bit more feminine than either of them. Still, those who love one will probably enjoy the others, as sandalwood is still the main theme here, the other notes subtle.
Very pretty and also unique on the shelf….One of the less fruity or patchouli scents in stores today among modern releases. Which alone makes Red Promisia something of a gem. 🙂
To me, this Sonia Kashuk is a budget sandalwood lover’s dream come true. If I were suddenly bereft of my entire perfume collection and had to start from scratch with SOMETHING ASAP from local stores, I’m Positive Sonia Kashuk’s line would come to mind. The packaging is a treat to the eye, both simple and decorative, and the entire range ‘feels’ like something from Jo Malone.
Update – Red Promisia is getting better and better since I brought her home to wear lavishly. Spraying more generously than the standard 2-3 squirts, I now get moderate sillage and a louder opening. It’s ‘a blast’, pun intended! Once past the more pungent stage she’s immediately sweeter and quieter, but still with personality. Dry down is lactonic, dreamy, woody. I am keen on discovering fragrances like this one, simple and yet more than the sum of their parts.
<3 Highly Recommended, and rather expensive smelling! <3
Update no 2- It’s almost Christmas, and I finally made it to the mall to sniff. 🙂 Blow me away when I smelled Tom Ford’s Santal Blush and realized they had a huge resemblance. In fact, Red Promisia is like a slightly more feminine, softened version. Well, duh. I wonder how many Tom Ford fans have sampled a Target release like this one recently?!

This is my 4th in the Sonia Kashuk line and I have to say– these are perhaps the best “cheapie” fragrances on the market!
This one open up a little harsh – so it has that “oriental” feeling. Fans of Shalimar would LOVE this as their “go to because I don’t want to waste my expensive Shalimar” scent.
It is STRONG. I’m on the fence about how “natural” these are–BUT I can say this smells soooooo much better than any CELEBRITY scent on the market (excluding Elizabeth Taylor of course!) Actually – if you are a fan of Elizabeth Taylor’s fragrances– you’d probably enjoy this entire line.
So these feel kinda like somewhere in between low budget Jo Malones and Elizabeth Taylor’s line.
for $15.00, each – nobody can complain.
Thank me later.

I work in the cosmetics area at Target so I get to smell the entire collection whenever I want. I’ve smelled it on my coworkers and must say it is a pretty scent. Not powerful but pretty and light.
