Quadroon by Bourbon French Parfums is a Oriental Floral fragrance for women. Quadroon was launched in 2014. A contest was held to select a name for the brand’s new fragrance in 2014. “Quadroon” was the winning name and the house describes it further: “This name honors the beautiful, mysterious young women of mixed race and heritage in New Orleans during the 1800’s.”

The top note is cherry blossom; middle notes are jasmine, carnation, cloves and bergamot; base notes are sandalwood, amber and vetiver.

I can’t really describe this other than its just a generic oriental on my skin. It’s not terrible but I don’t care for it. I love all the notes listed, especially carnation, but it just became a jumbled mess on my skin. I couldn’t pick out any one note. The dry down was nice, though.

Shit, man. So what does it smell like? I live in central pa. We have been mixing here for decades upon decades, like the rest of the world. Only it ain’t no big deal here. My family is multi cultural. We go from glowing in the dark to being totally invisable in the dark. So you know we have some extremely beautiful people in the family. When I read the name the first thing that came to my mind was a caramel colored skin, exquisite eyes, full sable brown auburn highlighted thick wavy hair, full beyond sexy lips woman, with big tatas and booty to match. Damn, I hope the perfume smells like it woukd fit a woman like that. As far as marketing, they caught my eye. So looking forward to knowing what it smells like. Lost my sense of smell in mid 80s due to aneurysm. Bleed red like the rest of us. Be happy. Smell the damn perfume, please

So, we gonna get reviews or just keep quibbling about offence?

Yes, like some of us here, I took a double when I heard what name won the contest!
These former terms of categorizing people with other than European were used with overt intention first and foremost to separate the “white society” from everyone else. The more subtle usage’s a device used for controlling class heirarchy through discrimination and ultimately shame.
What it boils down to is my concern is to respect those Americans with African background and to not use terminology that they feel insults them . Who am I, an American of Eurasian background to decide for that what is or isin’t offensive.

I believe that this fragrance was named by a ‘contest’ where one could send name ideas to the company via their website. This was the winning name.
“Quadroon” has an old-fashioned, but honestly, lovely sound, and my guess is that that is why it was selected. I’ve been to the Bourbon French Parfums shop several times. It is an historic and charming shop and company. And of course, it is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, just about my favorite city in the entire U.S.
Perhaps the name was meant as an homage to the wonderful folks of mixed heritage. If it is offensive to that many, BFP will no doubt change it. I can’t believe that was their intent, at all.

see y’all this is just one of the reasons I prefer Hove perfumery(another ancient new Orleans perfume house)they have names like creole days, amber antique, and purple violet. It is not necessary to make anyone feel uncomfortable, maybe bourbon will change the name.

Actually, historically, women with this ancestry were said to be among the most beautiful women in New Orleans. I suspect the company was attempting to trade on that (plus a bit of shock value) and not be intentionally offensive…but it seems an unfortunate choice.

I understand your point, CDGfan. It’s like calling someone an idiot. It’s a classification but offensive nonetheless if you have been accused of being one.

I agree with craftyminx. The term is outdated and is historically offensive and used to separate one by their 1 black grandparent. As a black person who has roots in Louisiana, why someone would name a perfume that is beyond me.

People use it in classification, it is not outdated. You must be some butthurt uber liberal who gets offended by anything.

“Quadroon” is an outdated term for a person with one black grandparent, from a time when black people in the US were legally considered second class, not just in practical terms but in formal terms. I can’t fathom thinking that’s an appropriate thing to call a fragrance in this century.
