Idesa Parfums introduces a new fragrance for men: Mandarina Duck PURE BLACK. Pure Black is minimalist, linear, clean. Full of strength and character, it looks for a man who believes in the essence of things. An intense and aromatic fragrance, created by perfumer Nathalie Lorson (Firmenich), it is both modern and captivating.
The surprising top note is original and contains an exotic element. Indian pepper, essential since antiquity, is enveloped in a sparkling citrus cocktail of bergamot and Mediterranean tangerine. A fresh and natural Mediterranean blend.
The middle notes reveal the elegant masculinity of its essence, thanks to its Tonka beans and its complex blend of sweet registers, which go all the way from tobacco to vanilla. The whole is enriched by touches of Tahitian Tiare flower and Orange flower, which also add purity and gentleness. The bottom notes reveal the sensuality and warmth of mixed noble woods such as Mysore sandalwood from New Caledonia and green cedar from the Atlas, as well as the elegant note of Madagascar vanilla. An explosion of cardboard dry vanilla citrus, very dehydrating headache inducing smell, not one for every day use
Aside from that though it is very pleasant smell occasionally, if you love fragrecnes such as Joop Homme or Versace Eros u will like this

A bit of orangey type citrus initially and then a very nice vanilla/tonka scent. Hard for me to smell anything else than vanilla/tonka but looking at the notes helps me pick out just a hint of spicy pepper and sandalwood. If you like vanilla (I do) then you’ll be very pleased with this one. Decent projection and sillage but not overpowering by any means. For the price I love this fragrance.

This frag to me smells like the butter scotch cone ice cream,it’s very close to being a gourmand,it’s very sweet and sexy scent that last a good 8 hours and projection is arms length,i would rate this frag a 8.5 out of 10 cause it can be found for 20 bucks online.

Wow this is similar to allure edition blanche but less lemony and more of the woody Tonka pepper direction. Very nice substitute!

This is a fantastic fragrance. Very decadent, delicious,and fresh scent. I wouldn’t recommend it for the summer, but it would be perfect in every other season. The pepper on the opening somewhat reminds of sauvage but it only lasts for a moment. The Orange gives it an slight fresh feel but the tonka settles it and deepens the sent. It is my wife’s favorite out of my collection. For the $20 I invested, I have no complaints. Highly recommend!

This is an absolute masterpiece. Beautiful, smooth refined, and evolving all the way through initial spray til drydown. This is a 10/10. This scent says sex, sex, sex and lots of it. This scent along with CK dark Obsession, Zirh Ikon and Tom Ford black Orchid are all just stunning.

This scent Is a great scent for the price and doesn’t smell expensive but it doesn’t cheap at all !
Upon spraying this it has that typical fresh, but sweet smell that’s very reminiscent of a lot of popular scents out today such as 1 million,Versace Eros,invictus, and other scents like that.
Once this dries down that tonka bean kicks in making this smoother and creamier and this is when the fragrance starts to become really good! The drydown is pretty much the same as the heart but in the drydown this becomes more woody.
To sum it up when this dries down it’s a very pleasant,appealing scent that’s very creamy and it leaves a really nice scent trail.
Performance is above average— This projects really well for 1 hour and then leaves a nice bubble around you for 2 hours after that. This lasts on me 6-10 hours which is actually pretty decent.
Overall rating—7.5 out of 10 !

I have a very different impression from previous reviewers…On me this is reminiscent of CH Men, and Hana Morei HiM – but without the boozy notes. I don’t get La Nuit at all or anything as sweet as Pi. Lasting for 4-6 hrs on one spray it’s really nice. It’s love for me and the dominant notes I get from opening to base are sweet cinnamon woods. Very comfortable fragrance for me and my wife finds it sweet and delicious. Great, great buy.
Edit: I’ve been wearing for many days now. It’s a really beautiful fragrance and linear in the sense that it doesn’t follow the traditional scent pyramid, rather it fades in and out between notes. I still get the woody cinnamon backbone, but the floral notes definitely stand out and give it a beautiful top layer that is pleasing.
If I were to give this a title or catch phrase, I would say this is 1 million for the office. Not to say this smells like a 1 million clone/copy as the floral notes in Pure Black give it a unique character. It’s wearer is approachable and mysterious. I love this.

Phenomenal scent safest blind buy ever. Hidden gem in the fragrance game compliments the first 3 hrs after that a it becomes a skin scent but this is a up a close and personal night out scent. Scent 8.5 out of 10 but lacking on the longevity department. But other then that a great inexpensive fragrance.

Okay first and foremost fellow fragranceheads, according to website and official twitter of Mandarina Duck, they’re discontinuing their fragrances and sticking with leather products. With that said if you’re thinking about trying its the right time, you can still find it online.
Now the fragrance is sweet you can smell the tonka bean with vanilla, and can smell a gentle bit of citrus. It doesn’t dramatically change when you spray, the vanilla does become more dominantly evident with the dry down. Its not too sweet but not too light either in the vanilla smell. I’ve gotten complements. You can find it cheap online. I personally recommend because its inexpensive, and also its getting discontinued so its kinda cool to have in your collection.

From the 1st spray I smelled as if I was opening a box of Maraschino cherries with stems that were rolled in a sweet coating, then dipped in chocolate. Very unique, not to sweet and very sexy! This is a very up close and personal fragrance when I wear it and I’m not saying it doesn’t project because it does but what I’m really trying to say is that she just wants me up close and personal when I wear it!

Its now heavy on the tonka and reminds me of armani code. Its def a dark scent really great. First day worn I got a compliment but a shame that after 3 hours became a skin scent

It’s interesting to compare this to Playboy London. That one doesn’t have the woodiness of this one, and it has a clear brandy note as opposed to the orange in this one. What they have in common is some “laundry musk,” a bit of sweetness and a somewhat syrupy texture (other than the bit of woodiness in this one). I don’t like the woodiness, as it seems to come across as “synthetic” and generates a clash type experience. I prefer the brandy note to the orange one. In short, since I have London and prefer it (and don’t like the wood nor orange notes as presented here) there is no reason for me to consider this one. It’s not awful, but for me it’s a $10 per 100 ml type scent, and I wouldn’t buy it at that price for the reasons stated above (though I might buy it for swapping purposes at that price level). This is a great example of how recent “cheapo” releases prevent me from buying more expensive, non-niche scents – it simply makes no sense whatsoever (I also prefer Yacht Man Red to Dunhill’s Desire for a Man). The “cheapos” tend to be a bit softer, which helps me deal with the more obvious, and slightly irritating, aroma chemicals, but in this case I prefer the notes of London, though the composition is similar.

If you simply want to smell good, reach for this. Dark, sweet — you get a well-rounded tonka bean note, with a hint of citrus. Although it’s fairly linear, it pleasant. It’s simple, and it smells fantastic.
Longevity is average. Also, it’s price warrants a “must purchase”. It can be found for under $40. This is a no brainer and I use it on those days where I just simply want to smell great.

Mandarina Duck Pure Black is an oriental vanilla mix, similar to Lolita Lempicka au Masculin. Initial spray brings out pepper and the subtle scents of citrus. Then the tonka and vanilla join the fray, until the dry down, which features the lingering scent of vanilla and sandalwood. It stays close to the skin, with a lasting power of 3-4 hours after 1 spray for me. If you like F Black for Men by Ferragamo, you should give this a try. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Nothing original or unique in this one but for what it is it’s not bad at all. It’s a somewhat subtle fragrance if only sprayed a few times so you’ll have to go crazy on the trigger to get any decent sillage. If you like sweet fragrances but want something that isn’t overpowering, then Mandarina Pure Black may be a good choice. It’s along the lines of Boss Bottled as mentioned and Ferrari Black but a tad peppery in the drydown. This is a good one for warmer weather where it can really project from the added heat.

On first try of Pure Black I get similarities to boss bottled, but it’s more like what boss bottled wants to be when it grow up. I don’t know about armani code because in all honesty I can’t remember what it smells like even though I went through 2 bottles of it. It’s must have been boring.
Pure Black is a scent you wont forget. Even though pepper is in the top notes it really gets incredible in the dry down, about 3 to 4 hours in.
I’m glad this isn’t readily available in my area, I’m selfish with this, I want to be the only one to smell this good. I won’t say much about longevity because 8 to 12 hours is normal for me and this is in that range. Sillage? I can smell myself, other than that…f*ck knows? who cares.

Here’s my first impressions. The longevity is incredible! I put it on at around 6 last night and now, 1:30 pm the next day, it’s still there. From the start to now it’s been all about the tangerine with a bit of sweet vanilla and tonka. It took a few hours for the pepper to come out but it’s only a subtle complement to the tangerine and vanilla and gives it the masculine feel it didn’t have in the opening.
In one word, amazing, 10/10. I’ve been sniffing myself since last night, it just smells so good.

One of the best i’ve ever tried, and my most complimented fragrance. Simply fantastic.
I like the opening, but the best part is the dry down. Starts with soft sweet citrus, zero black at this point. But after a 20min, it goes darker and transforms in a very well balanced fragrance. Not much sweet, not much floral, not much citrus, not much vanilla… Every note plays a little role in this composition. And the result is just wonderful.
Some people say that PB is similar to One Million… I’m 50% agree. One Million is harsh, too strong, worst balanced, even a little nauseating compared to PB, which is richer, creamier and smoother. Is like to compare Acqua di Giò with Allure Homme Sport. There are many frags that look alike One Million much more than this: 212 VIP, Antonio Banderas Golden Secret or Davidoff The Game. Just to say a few examples. If you like One Million, you’ll probably like this. If you don’t like One Million, test PB and you’ll be surprised.
And not. It has NOTHING in common with Allure Homme.
It’s has nice longevity, above average. On clothes lasts days, (I never spray directly on clothes, but mi shirt is still smelling).
Projection is nice too, considering the softness of the composition.
Unisex? Probably, but not in a femenine way. It’s more masculine than other evening fragrances like One Million, Dior Homme (and intense), Armani Code Ultimate, Givenchy Play Intense…

Mandarina Duck Pure Black by Mandarina Duck – Initially, one is treated to a fresh orange. Tangerine, with its bright and tangy, orange facets, commingles with bergamot, with its bitterwsweet, orangey and a slightly peppery character. To me, this scent smells like a 2:1 mixture of Polo Double Black (iced mango, coffee, spices) and Cerruti 1881 Black (bitter orange, pepper and marzipan). Interestingly, I really enjoy both of those fragrances but I find that 1881 Black can smell dated at times. Polo Double Black has longevity issues (really, its just so soft after the first 2-3 hrs). What we have here is a sweet, woody combination that has the brilliance of Double Black with the fantastic longevity and sillage of 1881 Black. Definite winner – I recommend this one to all.

I have to agree with those members who said its amazing the quality of this juice considering how affordable it is, i got it today and i had to put this review before many other i was on my list to do.
wonderfull fragance a little unisex at the end of drydown but at then it is so close to the skin that it could be a pro indeed so wear it when its night out or a special date too.

My, my, my…I bought MDPB at the advice of a dear friend and wasn’t he spot on! This fragrance definitely has a sweet and yet smoky tone to it that works and blends wonderfully. The notes of pepper, vanilla and an energizing orange peel feel give it an enticing, sensual and soothing effect. The drydown keeps you interested as the notes all come out to play; this frag has great longevity and sillage. I’m ever so surprise that this cologne is so affordable and it would be a great addition to anyone’s repertoire. Mandarina Duck Pure Black has slowly become my personal favorites

Why do people compare this to Allure by Chanel? Nothing alike and I think Allure is so overrated as well as the next aqua di gio. forgotten. I dont even think Allure is even nice. So many fragrances that top Allure and it has so much hype that your disappointed when you try it because your left like, um, thats it? Pure black is much better and not in the same category!
Im telling you all, its the Tonka beans inside this thing that makes it amazing. Everything with Tonka beans is amazing and unique and memorable.

Wow, this is fantastic. I have been waiting a long time to get this and it is worth the wait. The comparisons below are spot on. It feels like a cross between ghost man and Jil sander man to me. The pepper and tobacco provide a good juxtaposition to the sweetness of the orange,vanilla and tonka.
I am looking forward to wearing this out for the evening. I’m sure it is a compliment magnet but that is not too important to me as this is the kind if scent that just makes you feel great.

I bought this for my brother, and it turned out to be a good choice!
There’s a soft, round note which smells a bit like plum jam. The base is warm and woody. The vanilla is not foody at all, it just softens the clean, clear notes of cedarwood.
I’m guessing it’ll smell better in colder weather, it would be a perfect autumn scent! Warm and comfortable.

I am a cologne junkie in addition to being a men’s fragrance salesman. I have smelled a great many fragrances, obviously, and I have NEVER, ever, evereverevereverever…smelled a scent as effing amazing as Pure Black. I have 2 large bottles of it on my shelf. I do like to keep my personal stock up. 😉
There is just no way to fully convey the awesometasticness of MDPB to the uninitiated. Yes, it’s sweet. Okay, maybe it does smell a little like pipe tobacco up front. On the skin…oh my. The Indian Pepper and woodsy undertones start popping. I can never wear this in public and not have a woman come up to me or comment on it. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I’m pretty damned hot, but when you add the fragrance…it’s a lady killer.
It’s awesome that it isn’t available at all retailers, to be sure, which is why I am grateful to have it at my disposal for those guys looking for a surefire, and do excuse the base parlance here, panty dropper. I had one cat to whom I sold a bottle return to me, declare me a fragrance deity, and regaled me with tales of carnal conquest which began with one sniff of PB. He said one girl even bit him. lol I think MDPB is just…it’s the business. The shiz. Period.

The fragrance is sweet, tropical, warm, modern and quite long lasting. The projection is amazing, this will work great for a night out.
The first fragrance that came in my mind when i first try it, was Escada Magnetism. It’s similar also with PR 1 million but this it’s much more manly, thanks to the tobacco and pepper notes.
IMO Pure Black can be worn all year around, but only in the evening.
