Polo Ultra Blue was launched in February 2018 and arrived in Brazilian stores at the end of July. Since it was announced in the specialized media, the new Polo Ultra Blue has arrived full of contradictions. In addition to not bringing the nuances of the Eau de Toilette version, showing itself as a new variation of the EDP version (2016), some users were unhappy with the lack of coherence between the name and the fragrance since it was made as an Eau de Toilette.
The truth is that the term Ultra has no connection with potency, but with the more refreshing aspect of the fragrance. The concept speaks of celebrating the lifestyle of Ralph Lauren, an eternal lover of the sea and sport and the ad campaign brings a surfer, emphasizing that this cologne does not have the aromatic appeal of before and was intended for lovers of marine/aquatic fragrances.
In terms of composition, I prefer to rely on the information on the official website, since the communication should be worked on a universal basis. That said, I draw attention to the notes listed in the fragrance and in the following order (which makes all the difference in perception and evolution):
    Head – notes of lemon cedrat, bergamot and ArticalT molecule;
    Body – notes of basil, verbena, clary sage and juniper;
Base – salty mineral accord, vibrant woods and AmbertonicT molecule (IFF).
Before proceeding, a brief explanation: the AmbertonicT molecule was discovered and patented by the IFF in 2014 and can confer musky and slightly dry nuances. Blended with the molecule ArticalT it brought, as a result, a slightly woody and dry content.
On the skin, Polo Ultra Blue follows the aquatic style of so many other fragrances, that is, it does not bring any innovation to the market. It is less citrus than I would like (and expected) and has a sweet fruity facet, which permeates during evolution. The mineral accord is not surprising, but truth be told, it is possible to notice a salty aspect in a certain way.
Although Polo Ultra Blue is considered dispensable by some, it is the type of scent that never goes wrong, mainly if worn on hot days. In addition, it always brings compliments, which is a standard feature in this type of fragrances. And do not be surprised if someone tells you that you are smelling watermelon or melon. The companies have very similar compounds, only registered with different names.
To close, I can’t be sloppy in letting go of important information: Polo Ultra Blue tends to stay closer after a few hours, but the durability is incredible, lasting about eight hours on my skin. Taking into consideration the olfactory path and the volatility of some notes here is proof of the effectiveness of synthetic molecules in some creations.
I dare to say: the fans of the Eau de Parfum (2016) version are more likely to like this perfume than fans of the original fragrance. And even if you did not try any of them, if you enjoy fresh and aquatic fragrances, I suggest getting to know Polo Ultra Blue.

I must admit i find this
one to be really good for summer,
    it’s so fresh and delightfull,
some prefer Dior cologne i prefer
this one, it sure is just as good
    as Dior just different.

Really nice! One of if not my favorite “blue” fragrances. A little fresher and a little Spicer. Hey, my birthday’s coming up!

Not sure why everyone is complaining?! I got this a gift and I actually was looking for a subtle summer fragrance that doesn’t smell generic, that is not too loud on aquatic notes and would fit an office setting. This juice fits my criteria. Its fresh but not to the point that it reminds a dish soap or a room freshener and it’s few steps above Cool Water; I’d say you will rock this cologne during summer days in any setting.Fresh like a morning breeze in Sakhara and sophisticated like a like blue silky tie.Enjoy the summer 2018!

This fragrance has nice, albeit generic, freshy. It is inoffensive but smells like many other fragrances out there. The biggest issue for me is the performance. For about a half hour it projects a couple feet. Then the next half hour it projects about a foot. Then for about another hour it sits close to the skin.
    Scent: 7
    Projection: 4
    Longevity: 4
    Versatility: 8
    Value: 5
    Overall: 6
For this price there are better fresh fragrances with more character, and better quality than this one. The performance make me think it’s not worth bothering with because nobody will smell you after an hour unless you go heavy on the trigger.

On first spray, it smells like Polo Blue. Then you realize it has a lot of citrus, and it’s lighter, fresher and more clean. I have only tested on strips twice now, I am thinking about picking up a decant and testing it more to see if it’s full bottle worthy. It’s definitely a summer fragrance and personally I find it quite pleasant. It also has a sweet/salty vibe that makes it slightly alluring too. It’s not ground breaking, but if you like citrus clean laundry with a hint of Polo Blue, this could be for you.

I can’t comment on performance yet but as far as scent this is the best polo blue! They definitely did a good job even though it’s generic but it’s good. Try it out I highly recommend now let’s see about performance and if it’s worth picking up!
I’ve always hated the bottle in this line

    Lighter (as the bottle says)
Starts fresh, salty, unisex and then develops into Polo Blue but with mineral note, actually you can sense that mineral, can’t described but it’s here.
    Good for hot summer’s.

Aquatic, non-original. Seems doll so not worth a cop for me.

Polo Ultra Blue is a bottle full of water. It is kind of insulting.
I’m tired, nothing smells original anymore, let alone this that barely has a scent.
Bring me back the 80s & 90s, someone, please.

disappointed is an understatement ,extremely light and not long lasting ,on me it lasted like a cologne would ,however on others I’m sure it could last longer !
Citrus /melon aroma , and it felt like the fragrance wanted a woody base ,but before I could detect any real dry down it had already vanished ,maybe my skin isn’t great for some scents ,or maybe the scent is just so light !
This has nothing on the other ralph Lauren’s -blue ,red and red extreme ,a complete opposite of blue in terms of longevity

oh and those of you calling it “trolling” or snobery, did
you ever actually wear this for a day? i guarantee you didnt. the performance of this is not a matter of opinion (same way its pretty clearly and numerically expressed how a kia piccanto or a ford mustang performs)
i for the record totally love rl’s fashion lines (especially denim & supplies but also have a lot of pony) their frag game is of course a bit less strong, but i will forever respect them for safari and purple. this one is just a mehh parfume with simply zero longetivity. this is not trolling. i have no agenda agaitns any designers. it is straight talk.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

possibly the weakest parfume i have ever encountered. make sure it doesnt contact with oxygen. it vaporates the same minute. bravo ralph lauren. the next project could be a sunglass that doesnt have lenses.

  19. :

Aquatic and citrusy – run of the mill summer fragrance but I like the opening.
Now the downsides – it has zero longevity, 30 mins to an hour and its gone.

Completely agree with RodgyV & raygsoko
People are starting to vote out of hate. It is probably the same idiots who has voted this to be a Winter frag. The fudge is wrong with you?

This site is becoming less useful in looking up fragrance opinions, although info maybe correct, the trolls disliking a fragrance before release or putting best season to wear as “winter” for this polo ultra blue?? If u haven’t tested a fragrance don’t vote or opine. Twitter is for trolls, fragrantica is for fragrance reviews. Seems simple enough to me??

Crisp, synthetic, salty marine-type fragrance. You’ll have smelt this dozens of times before. Mediocre at best.

  25. :

This is forgettable. Truly , this flanker is not needed at all. The edt amazing, Edp was good and ultra blue is …… boring as it gets . Just an opinion. I am not a troll and can honestly say this is just another run of the mill aquatic fragrance with ZERO character!

  26. :

So many trolls on Fragrantica now smh

If you like musk, then this is your blue. Musk is the first smell …almost a top note and it stays strong throughout. Then after about 10-15 minutes a very, very strong tangy, salty, melon-y, citrusy smell overwhelms. This mixed with the musk and the wood produces a [strangely] very fresh, soapy, detergent like aroma.
I wear Blue EDP regularly and I dont think this smells anything like it. Blue EDP is very fruity, spicy, and has the suede. I kind of feel like this should have been called Polo Sport Ultra, as it belongs in the gym bag after a sweaty workout…to make you smell fresh and clean.
I’m fairly certain it’s a an EDT as a parfum version would kill small pet birds at close range….
Edit: Just for clarification – I’m no troll, I bought a 4.2oz bottle of this stuff…

Don’t waste your money, cause you can actually make this fragrance at home with just two easy steps:
    1. Pour yourself a glass of water.
    2. Add a slice of lemon. (for intense version add two slices)
    Enjoy.

I just tried this at Lord and Taylor. The scent was very poor and lasted about 5 minutes. Can’t believe this company would allow such a poor performing cologne to be sold. My advise skip it. By the way, the store only had two boxes for sale.

If Blue EDP was the concentrated version, then this is the very watered down version. It smells extremely similar to the EDP, but the suede and the depth are missing. This is going back to Bloomingdales as this smells really good, but it lasted all of an hour and then it was gone. Ultra Thin is a better description.
For a few dollars more, or less if you get it from a discounter, I would recommend the EDP if you really like the scent as it lasts more than an hour. A much better choice if you’re in the market for a new “blue” is Armani Prive Bleu Turquoise.
This Blue is just too shallow to dive in.

I sprayed it on me and the test strip. My local Macy’s sells this flanker. Being a fan of the original polo sport(90s), polo blue 2003, polo blue de parfum 2016, I was disappointed. I don’t pick up the Blue in it, why? If it is called Ultra Blue, it should smell really BLUE. It smells a lot like Acqua di Gio. I find the Acqua di Gio smell annoying. This cologne is not for everyone. I will pass on this one. I will stick to Polo Blue de parfum for fall/winter and polo blue de toilette for spring/summer. Hope this helps.

I picked this up at Macy’s last week and have worn it several days now: some to work, some casual. I can honestly say that this is my favorite iteration of the Blue line and a very fine fragrance in its own right. It is very harmonious: the citruses of the top are never over bearing, nor are the base notes too dominant. They are there to accent the cool, woody-amber heart of the fragrance to give it some depth. It is softer compared with the original and the EDP, but I get much better longevity with Ultra Blue. It is a very transparent fragrance, always smelling clean and fresh, but never like a common detergent. This has become a personal favorite of mine – my go-to for the office as it is fresh and professional without being stuffy and pretentious, as well as a favorite for a day out.

Smells like Carolina Herrrera Sport. Aquatic salty fresh

It’s solid, but not worth getting if you own one of the other Blue’s. I’ll pick it up someday on the cheap when I run out of the EDP version. Sure, it’s lighter, fresher, but still smells pretty similar.

  36. :

Just received it early and opened it up. Bottle has a slight change in the shape and I could add that the color of the bottle…..transparent pretty much sums up the fragrance.
Initially it starts as one of the best dryer sheets I’ve ever smelled and a skin scent
It’s also one of the safest fragrances I’ve come across thus far. Its pretty nice. I enjoy it and would refer to it as a fragrance you could wear to take a break from your fragrances…..ie Serge Lutens l’eau. Same clean vibe. Does not smell alike by the way
Its very nice and I could see it being unisex it’s certainly neutral and void of much of what I’ve encountered in the fragrance market.
    Be well

The opening of this scent is quite interesting – it is airy and transparent, but after about 5 minutes it develops into a familiar citrusy scent that reminds me of a couple of fragrances like D&G Light Blue eau Intense PH and Dior Homme Sport 2017. Personally I wouldn’t buy it but its a great everyday scent for sure!

  38. :

    4 out of 5

This flanker sounds very interesting. For only 3 notes, there is definitely a uniqueness about it. I’ve never smelt two of the notes. Perhaps this will be a citrus frag that lasts? I’m a huge fan of the polo brand, and most of their creations have been great. Kind of odd for it to come in only 40ml (I hope this isn’t going to be a new trend or rather standard for bottle sizes)
I am digging the bottle. Maybe it’s clear with light blue-ish grey juice?
Definitely on my radar for 2018! I’m glad it is coming out soon before the spring time!

Would love to hear reviews from 25+ people who disliked a fragrance yet to hit the perfumery shelves. They must be some kind of fortune tellers or something.

Well this looks different. It’s only available in 40 ml size, it’s EdT concentration, and only has three notes. Very interesting. Can’t wait to smell it. Would love to know what Artical and Ambertonic smell like, especially in tandem with citron.
