Ahhh, finally.I was given as a BD gift a “Root” brand candle of the variety “Sampaquita”. The giver mentioned that she had never smelled such a gorgeous scented candle, and I concur.
I have searched low and high for a fragrance to replicate the smell of this candle (that doesn’t need to be burned to smell, it scents the room quite nicely, unlit.. burning it is all that, and more.).
Is it Jasmine and Honeysuckle? Why yes, it is. Is vintage/older version of Terra Nova Pikake the most like it as I could find on earth? Yes, it is.
To me, this scent is like something one might purchase on vacation in an exotic destination… Bali, Philippines, Hawaii, etc.
Now, I do have the oil essence, and it is an older bottle, so I can’t comment on the newer version in another strength/dilution. But this one is beautiful, completely natural in spirit, and long-lasting. Not one that causes a headache, as some of these big white florals can. It is divine, and as close as I can find to my absolutely favorite Root candle “Sampaquita”.

This doesn’t smell like Pikake at all. I don’t know what to compare it to, but it’s not good.

smells like a cheap bathroom cleaner …scrubber

I love natural single note scents and this pikake is one of the best. Reminds me of childhood. I prefer the oil and lotion over the perfume spray.
Himiencanda – :
Terra Nova Pikake perfume essence: ye gods, but this is powerful. I would recommend a tiny dab. The scent is lush and powerfully floral, a bit more juicy-fruity than fresh-flowery.
On my skin, it turned sugary-sweet within an hour, and dried down to a powdery and bitter fragrance. For sensitive noses (such as mine), it may be considered cloying. I do not normally wear tropical perfumes (I prefer fresh, green, unisex scents myself), but this is the closest thing I can find to the scent of the soap I used in Hawaii. I love the scent, but not as a perfume. This is definitely going into a batch of soap.
If you already know what pikake smells like, and you are looking for a powerful, single note, heavenly-tropical pikake scent, this one is true to life!

pure heaven in a bottle! What’s not to like about this fragrance. I have it in the essence variety and it’s very long lasting and love the smell of the jasmine. I will be a fan for life.

I live in Hawaii and I wore a pikake and tuberose lei (garland of flowers) to my 25th anniversary vow renewal ceremony. Just lovely! I need to find a pikake & tuberose combo in a perfume. This TerraNova parfum is very strong and a little more cloying than the flower I think. It is sharp like the flower though. Reminds me of licorice a bit. Someone said it smells like Pez, yup. Sweet…
My favorite pikake ever was pikake EO mixed with frankincense EO. My husband’s friend made it and called it Mana Rain. It was heavenly. I have the TerraNova Pikake parfum and I think I would prefer the cologne so I could spritz it on me in other places than just one concentrated drop between my wrists. This is very strong with a lot of projection and sillage, but not enough longevity on me. Also, I think I would like something more complex that would have a base that would carry the fragrance longer for me.
Aloha,
Sammy

Oh my god. I think I have died and gone to heaven. I used to think I did not like Jasmine. Imagine that! Like, had you asked me my oppinion on the usage of this particular flower in a fragrance only yesterday, I would have told you that I borderline despised it, or at the very least that I was not a fan. Oh my what a difference a day (fragrance) makes.
I. Love. This. Fragrance. It is simply the most sublime sweet animalic floral. I used to have a shower gel by King and Queens called Chinese Princess Jasmine. For those who are not familiar with it, this was a much hyped showergel that has a dedicated following and is now very hard to get a hold of. To me, TerraNova Pikake is the essential oils of that particular showergel.
There must be many different kinds of Jasmin, right?
Cause then that would explain it, as this would then just happens to be probably the only kind that I like. Sambac jasmine aka Pikake. Where I live we don’t have jasmine so I’m not knowledgable at all about this flower, but apparently Pikake is a type of jasmine that grows in Hawaii…I think.
I also got White Ginger from TerraNova which I’m love love loving that as well! Now I wanna get quite a few more from this brand. Next on my hit list are Tuberose, Rain, Plumeria and Tiare Lei. I want to try them all!
The reason I originally decided to blind buy this was because this was supposed to be a really good and much cheaper dupe of the cult following perfume, Child. I have always wanted to try that. By all accounts I should love it, judging from how much I like Pikake, only now I don’t feel the need to look any further into Child. Pikake found me first and I’m sticking to it. I can’t wait to wear it out in public and see if I get any reactions to this beauty 🙂 SillySue out!

I am adding another review of this beauty. The perfume ESSENCE (oil).
Simply divine and gorgeous! If you are looking for a heavenly tropical jasmine sambac that is sexy, sweet, floral. This is one to get.
Projection is amazing. On the skin it warms and sweetens. It almost smells like it has hints of sweet lovely wisteria combined with jasmine sambac (pikake).
It doesn’t have that soapy quality that many pikake/jasmine sambac scents can turn towards.
Misterio_Vitalik – :
It’s very pretty but strong. You only need a drop or two. I have the perfume oil, and I don’t normally put it directly on my skin. Usually, I put a drop on my hairbrush or in my bath, and that’s more than enough. I like it, but my favorite TerraNova scent is Rain, hands down.
terpilgopr – :
I had the 1.3oz/33mL roll on of Susan D. Owen’s Child. It was divine.
TerraNova Pikake Perfume Essence is almost the exact same thing!
Child costs $98 USD (although it lists other notes it is straight up pikake soliflore)
TerraNova Pikake Perfume Essence costs $16 USD
TerraNova Pikake (perfume essence) is a sweet heavenly tropical soliflore of Pikake. Pikake is a type of heady sweet jasmine called jasmine sambac that is found in the Philippines and other tropical climates. It is totally different than the jasmine in a lot of perfumes.
It is really beautiful and very reminiscent of when I lived in Hawaii.
A little goes a long way and it lasts and LASTS! I highly recommend it!

This is the closest scent I have found to the heavenly pikake leis I remember from my trips to Maui. This instantly transports me to paradise I absolutely love it.
Uskor – :
the watery mist is a good choice, not too strong but good sillage. pure jasmine pikake, when this fades, it really reminds me of childhood smells, i think my mom bought this and had it around the house when i was a kid because when i happened to smell it at the Rexall’s in L.A. it jolted my memory and took me back!
Anette2011 – :
Terranova’s Pikake cologne is probably a better choice than the oil. Pikake is so sweet. I remember when Bare Escentuals used to make fragrances, back in the day they were big competitors with The Body Shoppe. Bare Escentuals made a fantastic Pikake oil – and the girl who worked there said she thought it smelled just like Pez. I smelled my wrist and thought, you know you’re right! I really LIKE the smell of PEZ; I just never knew it. Pikake is candy sweet, and I love it anyway. I have Terranova’s Pikake lotion, and carry a small bottle of it in my purse. I frequently get compliments after I’ve just applied it – and that’s just to my hands! So yes, it’s powerful stuff, but also powerful good.
lukiyanchuko2011 – :
I don’t think its too strong, but then again what do you expect from a parfum essence? it’s a pure fragrance, makes me think of an exotic beach…I love florals at their purest like when you grab the flower itself and take a whiff of it, that’s how I’d like to smell. But if you are into perfumes with sandalwood or vanilla (yuck) dry downs then this isn’t for you. I like how it’s not over-baring, if you think it’s too strong then you are probably smelling it straight from the bottle.
XSHRobert – :
Wow, the Pikake Perfume essence will knock your socks off. WAY TOO STRONG. You better love jasmine to even give it a try. Unfortunately, I’m not a jasmine lover so it turned me off completely. I think the perfume essences are probably best used to mix with unscented oils, lotions, etc, to make customized body products.
