I am very, very interested in the differences between Patchouli Santa Maria Novella and the beautiful Patchouly Indonesiano from Farmacia SS Annunziata that I recently tested ( except for the price!) Can anyone tell me? Thanks in advance!
Edit: I’ve tried them both now. SMN Patchouli is more fresh, a real eau de cologne (but not volatile like eau de colognes mostly are!). Patchouly Indonesiano is drier, darker. Both are wonderful patchouli frags. And now I have a big problem: don’t know which one to choose….:-)

When I first put it on, it just smelled like the patchouli oil I use in my diffuser nightly. Very raw, earthy, dirt-y.
It warms up a bit and smells good after an hour, but having also tried Reminiscence Patchouli and Nobile 1942 and a few others, I will reach for the others over this.
If you’re just looking for straight up patchouli, I guess you can’t go wrong here but it just smelled too much like something I could pick up at WF market or health food store.

This really is a soulful, beautiful “rounded” patchouli. It’s dry and musty in a good way! For some reason SMN Patchouli makes me think of peanut butter. It doesn’t smell like peanut butter, but it shares a rich distinct dryness of scent that peanut butter has as well. I had a couple of sprays at the SMN store in NYC last night. Beautiful store and very nice salespersons(during a torrential rain storm). I love patchouli and this is a great patchouli! I’m looking for a less expensive alternative to Profumum Roma’s Patchouly which is also gorgeous. Besides Patchouli I was getting a distinct mint with the dry down too. SMN has about 30 other frags too. But I had heard so much about SMN’s Patchouli I was excited to try it. It’s a really beautiful scent. I will probably buy myself a full bottle just because it’s so good. On my wrist it was a “press my nose on my wrist” skin scent in one hour. But, I find that if I spray perfume on my chest and then put a shirt on while still wet it lasts and lasts… I think that’s the way to go. Summer rain storms, Santa Maria Novella perfumes, patchouli! I’ll remember!

    This is the best Patchouli.
I’ve tried Reminiscence, Réserve Naturelle, Profvmvm.
They are all very similar and too sweet.
SMN is not sweet, it is very fresh herbal.
Don’t be afraid, this stuff is Eau de Cologne, but it is nuclear.
And the price here is right: 90 EUR / 100 ml.
The dry down is like black aoud without the rose.

Ive just tried this version of patchouli and to be honest, how is everyone getting long lasting and good projection? My first hour of it on the back of my hand had gone from a very bold and brave patchouli to a very minimal skin scent.
It could be because maybe i had Von Euserdorffs classic patchouli on the day before and that scent is very very nice and very long lasting with good sillage.
It may have bonkered my nose so ill have to go back to this one after a dry spell off the patch works. As it stands im not getting what everyone else is.

I have to agree with what shamus1 said, this is a fragrance for only the most die-hard patchouli fans. It’s so potent and true, I like it although I wouldn’t wear it too much, it’s not for me but it is quite interesting.
The longevity and silage are through the roof intense. I can spray this once on clothing and wash all the laundry and it’s still there after I dry it, and 3 days later on my shirt the silage power was still over 4 feet.
If you like patchouli you should really try this. On me, it reminded me of cleaning agents a bit, but not necessarily in an unpleasant way. I guess it’s too strongly patchouli to my nose. So, for my taste, 6.5/10
As far as pure patchouli goes, 10/10

Beautiful, easy to live with patchouli; quite expensive for an eau de cologne, but worth it, imo. It starts pretty great & strong, but settles down in 10-15 minutes, and gradually turns into a skin scent (on me) in 45 – 60 minutes, which is typical of an eau de cologne. It ends up as very round patchouli & a little mint on me, very soft and subtle. I love it so much that I reapply it a couple of times a day when I’m wearing it. I will still catch a slight whiff of it upon awaking the next morning from the day before. Extremely high quality ingredients. You’ll find nothing else quite like it. Givenchy Gentleman is much more “perfumey”, but it does have a similar vibe (but without the mint, and with some leather thrown in). I own them both & love them both. But the MSN Patchouli is really in a class by itself. I don’t see how anyone could be offended by this, unless they have an overtly excessive aversion to patchouli. Truly unique.

This is a velvety smooth and deep, unapologetic resinous patchouli. It is one of the most sensual calming and dimensional patchouli fragrances I have ever encountered. Very high quality here. It is not too dank, sharp or medicinal, does not remind me of a headshop, but does remind me of one of my long time male friends who wore this almost exclusively for years, and it is quite strong. It’s heavenly. If I could have just one straight patchouli perfume, it would be this one.

Oh wow! That’s what that was!?? I remember buying the Like a Prayer casette tape (!) in the summer of 1990 and wondering why it had a scent when I opened the package. Whenever I played it, I used to sniff the paper insert and ponder why someone sprayed perfume on it at the factory before wrapping it up. You reminded me of something I had forgotten and never understood. Wild!!

The Madonna Like a Prayer Album was scented with patchouli. I remember being disgusted and fascinated by it.
    “It smells like dirt!”
Following the lead of my older brother I found a bottle of patchouli oil in some new age shop downtown that sold stones and tarot cards and began smearing it over the wooden furniture in my room, on the light bulbs, on myself. It was the beginning of a love affair that has never ended.
This fragrance brought back those memories.
I suppose I could just buy the oil, but this cologne is cleaner, and it is beautiful layered with Santa Maria Novella’s Rosa. I can’t imagine life without either one. I love it.

The best patchouli in the world

I have the greatest respect for SMN, when they put a label on a bottle, the bottle contains exactly that (Shamus1 said it all, they were not fucking around when they made this one haha).Their soliflores/solinotes are a great way to get acquainted with a particular note, and this patchouli is a great example: rooty, multifaceted, minty… No BS notes for people who *think* they like patchouli, but the real deal for patchouli lovers to enjoy in all its glory.

Not much going on here but a raw earthy patchouli note. Good quality and good longevity but not much else to it.
I like my patchouli mixed with a little russian leather and civet (hint hint). Besides being a patchouli fragrance this has nothing to do with Givenchy Gentlemen.
I am reminded of the earthy patchouli in Coromandel/Chanel without the chocolate note and a similar patchouli to Dior Privee Patchouli Imperial.
Too simple and nothing distinct for my pleasure.

This scent has many things for me. Like the country I know and love. It’s not too hot, and the day’s about to end… The sky grows dark, and the world is big and wonderful, and very familiar eyes look at me, so full of wisdom and laughter, and the flowers are special, and the world turns. And there’s another something for me here, the scent has two stories… or three. There was a time when I had to pass the cemetery on my way to school. I went home using the same way, of course. The smell I felt every time there, by the cemetery… I was afraid of it at first, then I grew to love it. And yes, I know what else is here. The smells of some kind of soap, medicine for terminal patients and chemicals that are used to make a body last long enough to look more or less normal at the funeral. But the flowers are there, and the sky is beautiful, and I remember the eyes full of wisdom and laughter, and the world is big and wonderful, and it does turn.

Amazing, gorgeous, orthodox. The best patchouli.

This is my favorite patchouli. SMN weren’t f*$%ing around when they made this one. Probably the darkest, most robust patchouli fragrance on the planet. It has almost terrifying potency for those who aren’t die hard patchouli fans. Pure, raw, damp, shameless patchouli for only the true believers.
    MY RATING: 10/10

This is my first fragrance from SMN house. After first sniff I‘m completely in love with this one, however this is nothing easy. Very very very deep and dry. It doesn’t contain any vanilla which is common element in almost all patchouli colognes or perfumes. Even Profvmvm Roma Patchouli is small smiling baby in comparison to this one. Try to imagine old house surrounded by old trees during the late fall. Outside is cold and rainy the rotten leafs around with very deep and characteristic smell. You are going to the house were nobody was living for decades… everything seems to be dead and completely frozen by time. You feel scared but no one is around. The wind makes noise and you feel cold moisture everywhere. The only way is to escape as soon as possible. This fragrance never ends. Even you are faraway from this place you will always remember it. This is Patchouli by SMN. If you are not scared go ahead and try this. But always be aware… evil can catch you 😉
