Here is another delicate fragrance to wear in winter, spring and autumn. The stylist wanted to dedicate the fragrance to the real man, the manly but at the same time tender, elegant but slightly rude. A full-bodied perfume with a more intense formula than the other masculine fragrances on the market at the time. It is a genial perfume, conceived for the confident and self-aware man. the bottle recalls that of the whiskey flask. Among the best aromatic fragrances!

okay, today I met Jeremy Fragrance and made it my mission to sample at least 50 different fragrances. I did this at 5 different stores in the Pembroke Lakes mall. Guess what? I would say Club de Nuit Intense and Paco Rabanne were the best 2 out of the 50. Here’s the kicker though. This fragrance is a gem, but after an hour, it’s completely gone. People criticize Varvatos for it’s longevity, but the longevity on this brilliant fragrance lasts an hour, and it is completely unnoticeable on paper. (On skin, it may be different) 5 hours later and the Club de Nuit Intense is still powerful. Overall, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme has a great bottle and can out compete any modern fragrance in terms of scent. Longevity is an issue on paper.
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is on my want list, and I’m trusting other reviewers who are saying that this fragrance projects well on skin, and lasts a long time on skin. If that’s true, I’ll change the review to a higher rating.

Barbershop fragrance with loads of oakmoss ,lavender and fern.Beautiful composition of notes but the best part with fougere scent is the dry down.It is soapy clean and well very shaving foamy,if I may add.Pre cursor to Azzaro Pour Homme,Kouros,Quorum etc.
The perfume starts off like quorum with lots of pine and other green notes. It is somewhat strong and nose burning. After 2 minutes the scent progresses towards barbershop territory and the transition is prominent.I guess among all the older powerhouses this along with YSL kouros has the best reformulation.I guess presence of oakmoss in the ingredient may be the reason.
Soapy and beautiful manly scent.Among all the power house scent of 70s and 80s this is my wife’s favourite. It means it is the most accepted scent among masses considering the compliment factor I get.
7-8 Hours of longevity with moderate sillage.
A classic and better than Azzaro Pour homme in Current 2017 formulation.
Thanks Paco Rabanne and Jean Martel for the scent.Thumbs up!☺️

Perfect for early spring. Manly, green, soapy, fresh, with a little sweetness.
I bought it because it reminds me of my childhood (80s). Today I wore it for the first time and I fell in love with it.
Old-school? Dated? Maybe, but I couldn’t care less.

This is a standout in my humble collection of vintage barbershops. It has the classic barbershop scent, but its smooth and very well balanced. Theres an underlying spiced sweetness here that makes it somewhat of an addictive smell. On my skin it leans slightly powdery. Overall its a nice soap on skin clean showered vibe.

Yes folks….A classic and timeless. Unique, old school and just lovely. Been buying this since 1980 – I will always have this one as long as it exists.

This is a floral masterpiece with hints of soap and powder, simply perfect for any and every occasion. This fragrance is a paragon of virtue. I simply wish it lasted longer.

I bought it a few years back, wanted to know what is all hype about…classic, masterpiece etc…well,it probably was a hit,at the year it was produced(my year of birth),but now,I can only say it’s outdated.Simple as that. You can argue, you can tell whatever you want, but it is the old barbershop smell.Period.I tried to give it a chance, many chances, but feel stayed the same.It is simply the scent from that period. No,it’s not that I don’t like old scents,I do.Eau Savage is a perfect example how old scents still smell great after so many years after introduction.Unfortunatelly,Paco Rabanne original is not that case.Of course,I can understand that PR still has an army of loyal admirers and I respect that, but for me it’s just outdated. It firmly sleeps at my shelf, and who knows till when.I even tried to give it to my best friend,no use,he returned it back to me:)

This is the original masterpiece by this house. A warm inviting scent , some say barbershop or soapy. I just say timeless, and a benchmark for a first time collector . This along with Halston Z-12,Z-14, Aramis, Armani Homme, Piear Carden, Drakar are the beginning fragrances for myself, Along with Eternity. But this was Pure High School for me.

Old time classic! I smelt this on my dad as a child and I still remember the scent. I am in my 30’s now and I occasionally spray this on my wrist at home. Reminiscent of the good old days. I don’t feel confident yet to wear this outside but one day I will try.

    EDT: Original Formulation
I came by a vintage tester recently, which I thought might languish at the back of my collection….
One spray to the back of my hand convinced me otherwise.I can still smell it today after showering and washing my hands numerous times over 24 hrs later…
An exceptional fragrance which defines ‘Green’ in a breathtaking and refreshing way.The original has all the right moves in all the right places.
I could have done with this some years ago when an older woman I ‘dated’ dragged me to the perfume counter for PRPH and then to bed….
She was very upset it didn’t remind her of the old version her previous lover had sported.I didn’t think much of it either at the time, but (as a then 19 yr old male), was rather hoping for a different outcome to the proceedings.
Suffer in your jocks lady! I have it now and it’s all for me! Mine! Moi!

Timeless, this feature has been prey of many nowadays, reflecting an inner value, superficially claimed by many marketing corporate functions in search of an in deep stimulation of their prospects.
Too many juices today pretend to be classified as timeless, while actually they fully belong to their age, which in the end is not a bad thing.
Paco Rabanne pour homme, from the magnificent 70’s, most likely, could claim more than others to be a true timeless fragrance.
And this not because of the scent structure itself, this until we do agree that fougere is actually a main them in men’s fragrances.
However, scents are not created to accomplish any technical requirements, they are created, or at least certainly used to build memories, to leave a trace in our hearth.
By this perspective, timeless should be given to those scents that truly leave a mark in our hearts.
Paco Rabanne pour Homme is this type of scent. Why? Do a simple test: spray it in any shop, and you will see that sooner or later a lady will react; and you know why? Cause a man used it.
    That’s what timeless really means.
None, neither seating in the marketing offices and looking to bunch of data should have the right to define what timeless mean, only our hearts can do this.
Paco Rabanne pour homme speaks to our hearts, and it tell us a story; imagine an early autumn afternoon in Paris, imagine the fog envloping around you, a soft breeze is reminding you the Winter approaching, you find a cafe, you enter it and life, for how fleeting can be, is giving you a gift, since seating at the barline there is a woman, that is turning her eyes to you, just when you entered the room….you do not know why, but Paco knows it very well….the rest is history, …indeed:
il ne tient que a vous qu’elle souvienne.
Aromatic, Fougere, Elegant, Manly, Barbershop tentacles sweeting hugging you…the rest…is gone, in a timmeless dimension.

This literally smells like a soapbar, its very fresh and smells like spring, almost like being in a big patch of fresh grasses, I mostly get the rosemary, clary sage, lavender, and woods. But honestly I don’t like it, alright projection but the longevity is weak lasted me about 2-3 hours. Overall id rate it a 4/10, I really tried to like it but I just cant.Although if you want to smell different from the rest of the crowd, this one is a good one for doing just that.

Paco Rabanne is a classic-type men’s fragrance in the same vein as say, Azzaro for Men or Polo by Ralph Lauren. I remember not liking this when I was young because after smelling it once, I thought it was too old fashioned. Lately however, I have been into old (or maybe classic sounds better) fragrances, so I decided to try this again.
I must’ve had bad taste when I was young. I really love this stuff now. It is definitely old-school. I get the lavender, oakmoss, rosemary, and sage. It is what I remember most from trying it a long time ago. But what I don’t remember is the honey. This honey is genius. It really makes Paco Rabanne stand out from the rest of the mature men’s fragrances, in my opinion. It adds a little sweetness to an otherwise sharp and green scent.
This is clean, easy-to-wear, and classic. It may be old, but it is different from all the new men’s scents being produced now. I think this is an essential.

OK, this might just confirm the opinion of everyone who calls this outdated or old-fashioned, but for me this will always have a special place in my collection because it is the EDT that my father always wore. It is the first perfume that I bought myself, and in my opinion, it’s timelessly elegant and powerful.

Saw & tried this at Sephora coz I recognized the bottle..used to visit my uncles when i was small, seen it in their wardrobe, so curiosity kicks in, tried it…ohhh man..a classic smell, retro, a mature smell, manly..unique…none of the sweetness Cr#p or cloying attributes like the current generation of frags for Men, strangely I like it, in my wish list..going to be part of my collection

Few fragrances are as perfect in Spring as Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I owned an original bottle from the 1970s—and I loved it! Lately, I missed Paco. But, after reading all the negative reviews about poor reformulations, I hesitated to revisit my old friend. I didn’t want to be disappointed. Finally, I took a chance. My new bottle arrived yesterday. Had Paco Rabanne changed? Without a doubt. BUT— like an old friend I hadn’t seen in years, I recognized him immediately. No, he’s not exactly the same as he once was. Nor am I. Of course, that only makes things more interesting. So, If once upon a time, you, too, were in love with Paco Rabanne, I bet you’ll fall right back in love with it. For me, it was love at first sniff. I STILL LOVE IT! I wish you a happy reunion!

Proudly owning it again after almost 25 years…
    (Batch 79921, 2017)
Back in 1984, I was given this beauty
(my first 3 perfumes were presents for my 18th… Paco Rabanne, Green Polo and Kouros)
The current batch is not as well performing as I remember it, but the smell has not changed.
I loved it then and I love it now!!!
What is there to say that hasn’t been said already?
    Iconic!!!
    Old man’s perfume?
The youngsters of today are bitter because they do not feel comfortable wearing this … I guess us oldies can comfortably wear old and new scents!!
    9/10
EDIT: 4 compliments received!!!! (3F-1M) in social gathering on 05/06/18
EDIT: 4 people (2M-2F) asked me for my scent/complimented me in the gym 25-07-18… WTF?!!

We are all aware that aftershave doesn’t usually possess the longevity of edt.
Paco Rabanne Pour Homme aftershave performs poorly in longevity even for an aftershave.
It’s gone in next to no time.
Bear this in mind when you purchase.
Otherwise it’s beautiful for all the reasons previously given here by others.
My next purchase will be the edt because of the aftershave longevity issue I’ve mentioned.

    UNAPOLOGETICALLY MASCULINE
    PACO RABANNE POUR HOMME
This is about the farthest away from unisex you could get.
Manly but still managing to convey something of an elegance and charm, this is a surprising gem.
Lavender, fresh herbs, woods, and moss all the way through. It starts strong but not obnoxious, with a clean vibe, and it lasts.
    Always appropriate.

I AM NEW TO FRAGRANTICA AND NEED HELP FROM SOME OF YOU FELLOW MEMBERS !!!!!
I was introduced to this scent back in the 70’s through a girlfriend who discovered it while she was in art school in Florence,Italy. It was very popular among mediterraneans at the time, but hadn’t hit the U.S. in a big way yet. I was the only one I knew (in my circle of friends anyway) who was rocking this stuff. I absolutely loved this stuff back in the day !!! I recently bought a bottle at Walgreens and discovered that I still liked it but was suspicious as to whether this was the original.I mean, I LIKED it but didn’t LOVE it like I used to.I wasn’t sure if my taste had changed or if this was a reformulation. My guess is that this is a reformulation (not to be confused with a knock off). In other words, this is a reformulation from the legitimate company. I looked at the bottom of the bottle and it IS distributed by PUIG (who now owns the Paco Rabanne line)FRANCE and MADE IN SPAIN. In short, this bottle is legit. So I believe that what I bought is a legitimate reformulation. I notice that there are a number of members on Fragrantica who compare originals to reformulations and Paco Rabanne is a case in point. How do you GET these originals and how do trust your source ? I am new to this and could use some help. Would appreciate any help along these lines BOTH with Paco Rabanne, specifically, and fragrances in general. Thanks

I bought a bottle from henryperfumestore website Singapore last week. It is an early edition and smells great. It is a splash but that allows you to control the strength which is important in this case as it lasted 12+ hours. Very smooth. No signs of degradation. And my kouros hating Wife hated it so it must be good! Henry has more if you guys are after vintage.

Paco Rabanne managed to get masculinity in a bottle. It’s one of the best ones out there. It smells very green, fresh and mysterious at the same time. It just makes one want to explore it more – and the person wearing it. The spices get milder after the drydown thanks to honey. Musk gently hugs the middle and base notes here.
Some may call it a retro fragrance – then I just wish there would be such gems when it comes to female retro scents.
As still a young woman I give this big thumbs up – clean, well balanced, mysterious, spicy, sexy. I love it.
Why would anybody use One Million from Rabanne if they can wear this…
    A true masterpiece!
    To me 10/10.

I’d wanted to try this for a while. I found a small bottle at my local TJ Maxx and purchased it as a blind buy. I was NOT disappointed. It’s sharp, dry, and fresh. It opens green and there is a spicy soapiness to its dry down. All-in-all, it simply smells classic without sliding into the the generic. This is a perfect anytime, anywhere, and any season scent that is undoubtedly masculine, but equally subtle. Buy it.

Manly. Fight in a barber’s shop following someone driving their Cortine mk ii through the window. Shaving soap and Campari.
Bottle is well hard. The smell reminds me of the Seventies. My dad had lots of mates who were sales reps and maybe they wore this on Double Diamond-fuelled riots.

I blind bought this along with Tsar by Van Cleef & Apels and so far Tsar is the most wearable. This one is a green floral with a hint of spice. Really reminds me of Van Cleef & Aprels pour home. Further testing is needed before I can truly recommend.

this one smells so rich and green, and nice. definitley something I would imagine smelling on the porcelain sink in the bathroom like a shaving cream, but it’s also a little bit of a honey lime shape shifter.
interestingly it smells very green up front, then later it gets more warmer smelling, and a real pleasant musk in the end.
The lemon lime Sprite(c) like opening is amazing, awakening and fresh, and then it quickly gets thick and sage-like and a little spicy. After a bit the pleasant musk and warm honey and rosemary herb scent comes in strong and it just smells great.
In the end it’s a surprisingly real nice enticing warm musk that comes through, carrying a lingering trail of the tangy and rich early phases.

This one has been my signature frag gor the past 25 years. Just got a new one from April 2017……and whatba disapointment . Its so weak and short lasting . I have to respray it time to time during the day as its fades after 2 hr. What have they done to it? Will have to fine an older one.
But still love it so much.

At first this smells like the original Irish spring soap. Then it morphs into Irish spring soap mixed with shaving cream and honey. Not a bad scent at all, definitely out of the shower clean.

In the mid 80’s my dad had a bottle of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme which I became enamoured with, as it was mildly recognizable in that piney sort of way yet wholly unique among the prevalent fragrances one chances upon in one’s day to day experience – a one-of-a-kind scent in the same way that classic Polo was. In the nineties I acquired my own bottle of this olfactory delight and was pleased with that transporting wash of nostalgia as I luxuriated in it’s glow.
Fast-forward two decades, after suffering a tragic loss of my dear collection of aromatic treasures, and rebuilding a new repertoire of nose-candy, I have recently purchased a new supply of my Paco and, alas, it has changed – for the worse. What I smell is a disappointing combination of Antonio Puig Quorum, Stetson Sierra, Coty Aspen and only a tease of the original Rabanne Pour Homme.
I am truly let down by this. Thanks for listening 🙂

  40. :

    3 out of 5

Clean, green and retro. Essentially it smells like a block of green piney soap from the 70s/80s. It is a fine working man’s scent, not in the same league as Guerlain’s Vetiver (also along the green/soapy line) which was released in the late 50s, neither in the league of Polo Green, which evolved and perfected the green/piney concept with their iconic release in 1978, five years after Paco. In later years the clean/soapy concept would be further evolved by the Italians and their masterful use of citrus notes. Today? We mix it all up and add some iso e super for dramatic effect. But if you want to go back to the bare bones then this is the reference for pure/green/piney soap.
What does it remind me of? My Dad, basically. In the evenings he would come up from the garage, his hands covered in oil and grease. He would wash them with soap for several minutes but the fumes would linger for hours. He would change his clothes and apply a few sprays of Paco Rabanne before coming to sit in the kitchen and drink a pint of beer. Eventually he would sit me up on his shoulders and carry me off to bed. I can vividly recall that scent mixture to this day. I suppose that is the magical power of scent…
Still a classic, pretty basic but smells clean and manly. The main prize comes in the drydown, which offers a faintly sweet lime shaving cream aroma, which is actually rather sexy. I’m wearing it today and this morning a young guy at work said “lovin’ that cologne Sir! Old-school class, all the way…”

I’m a huge fan of this fragrance. I own all formulations now (yes there are slight differences) and my favorite is the 2nd formulation. It’s a slightly soapy, barber shop style fragrance with pleasant green and masculine undertones. It certainly is a gentleman’s fragrance. I enjoy one spray on my chest after a fresh night shower and cuddle time with my wife and kids.

Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is working class manliness in a bottle! This is the fragrance that has stood the test of time and continues to gain new wearers or fans. Rightfully so I might add! This scent covers all the needs of the modern working man; it is soapy, herbaceous, earthy, musky, woody, floral and a bit sweet (in the dry down). PRPH sets the bar very high for fougeres and really creates a certain aesthetic for scents of this genre. I recently wore this again and felt courageous enough to bestow some praise on this vaunted fragrance.
PRPH is a unique hit from the opening with a very subtle melange of lavender, rosemary and oak moss. My particular bottle even has the honey present a bit in the opening. This opening takes its’ time and thats a wonderful thing, because it is brilliant! The honey and geranium finally appear at full strength in the mid with a healthy dose of sage and this earthy, herbal floral progression is running at full steam! The musk is perfectly rendered here; it is muscular and adds a great animalic and masculine depth to this scent. The rosewood, amber and tonka bring this manly display to a close and it is perfect! PRPH is a great projecting, long lasting scent, as long as a work day to be exact. The dry down of PRPH is just divine and is truly worth the price of a bottle alone. This fragrance is perfect for spring and fall and can be worn for really any occasion, but my only advice is to not bury this scent under too much clothing, let this scent mingle with your skin and sweat and it will work magical masculine wonders!
PRPH is a must in one’s collection plain and simple. PRPH certainly was a trailblazer of a scent and we can find many a fragrance that followed its’ path. Quite simply this scent needs to be worn to be appreciated (and it may take a few wearings, but be patient). PRPH is that grown, responsible, and sexy fragrance that will liven up the most classiest to the most modest of attire. For optimum effect give this a few sprays under your shirt before and after you fix up the car and change the oil. Then take your main squeeze on an impromptu country or seaside drive.

reminds me of someone I wanted to date, but it never happened. He wore this, and it reminds me of good times.
Even though I am a women, I think this is a nice smell for a woman to wear on occasion… clean, not sweet.

Clary sage bomb. Smells quite nice, though it is very green, slightly spicy and pretty thick. this is a very green and clean smelling scent.
Lime, honey and herbs too, later on musk. a very fresh smelling but thick scent. There is a georgeous soft lavender in this quite a lot, but I only smell it clearly if I compare it side by side with some other scents.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

The 20-30 minute opening is the best part. Slightly soapy and ‘incensy’. The next 60-90 minutes is nice too, very clean with a moderate sillage, slightly sweet but masculine. Then the next 3-4 hours it gets very boring. I made soap once in a historical style summer camp a few decades back with tallow, and the end result was an unscented block of soap and the dry down of this reminds me of that. The 3-4 hours of this is not unpleasant necessarily, it’s just not pleasant either. Very middle of the road. I gave it several weeks of wearing it in different circumstances and found the results to be about the same in each situation minus really hot, dry weather in which it didn’t last much past the 2 hour original opening and that was my favorite day with it. So minus hot weather, good longevity, 6-7 hours. Moderate sillage at first for opening and mid, then sits pretty close. Cost is pretty low but for the same price there are many other more evolving and interesting options. Of course this is based on my skin and physiology and with as long as it’s been around someone’s having better luck with it.

This has always been a fine and masculine scent. One of the cleanest smells among male fragrances, the smell of south european green soaps, green palm soaps, typical barbershop scent. I loved the vintage the new formulation however has a more prominent honey note which was not the case with the vintage formulation. It used to be a bit greener and more bitter due to the stronger role of oakmoss and less honey. I am not a big fan of this amped up honey smell in the new versions.

With respect to the reviewer below (and by way of answering his question), I’d say that no, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is not a barbershop fragrance…
‘Barbershop’ can mean a lot of things depending on your cultural reference point… If you are French, it might be something like Caron Pour un Homme (which was the inspiration for the postmodern butch-barbershop-drag idea of JPG’s Le Male.) If you are American, it is more likely something like Pinaud Clubman or Floid blue; common to most of these formulations are bracing topnotes with traditionally ‘hygienic’ ingredients like mint, citrus, lavender or clove, followed by a floral softness (often geranium or carnation) offset by the texture of woodsy herbs like anise, carraway, fennel, rosemary or sage, and all finishing a powdery-musky drydown redolent of the old-old school roots of Eau de Cologne. There are variations, and retro scents like Rive Gauche Pour Homme confuse things a bit, but most true barbershop compositions do not smell all that complex and have at least one or two rather raw-smelling notes that can be identified in their own right apart from the rest of the composition (like the lavender note in Caron Pour un Homme, or the mint in Aqua Velva Ice Blue, etc.)
I’d humbly submit that PRPH is more of what is commonly called a ‘wetshaver fern’: fougeres that bridged the gap between men using fragrance as part of a shaving routine and mean wearing ‘scent’ as a form of personal expression, to attract a mate, to wear to Studio 54; both functional (grooming ritual) and expressive, and, in the overlap, representative of a certain model of clean-yet-earthy masculinity.
Some of the tangy opening of the barbershop is there, but the aura of cleanliness is more complex: there is the powerful evocation of soap, but also a hint of a warm body (a savoury musk made more sensual with honey and a touch of meaty sage); the contradiction at the heart of this idea will be developed in YSL’s Kouros. The woody notes in the base, combined with rosemary’s ability to feel alternately resinous and leathery, make this all a bit more of an aromatic fougere than a traditional barbershop composition. Its synthetic, abstract qualities (the way the notes come at you as a whole) give it a conceptual feel that may seem a bit dated (nothing dates like a concept), that of freshly showered machismo. It transports me uncannily back to the smell of public pool changing rooms in community recreation centres in the 1970’s in fact…Still a bit macho, but pretty comforting as well

I claim that Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is king of the fougere scents, IMHO. Why? Because PRPH is sharp, woodsy and soapy fragrance and old schoolish, traditional and very classic men’s scent
(not for boys). It has very well balanced, not too complexity. Longevity is very good. I have get compliments of this scent.

Agree with gedlife , the current version is far from the vintage. theres only a distant reminder in the dry down that reminds you of the original beast. sad. Still good fragrance though.

Been wearing this a lot lately, it holds up well in the heat.
To me, it smells like what i would imagine a dark green incense stick smelling like.
It has that relaxed hippie vibe that some of the older colognes have.
Mine is the same bottle as in the picture up top. Projection, longevity and scent are excellent as is the price.

@gedlive. Please leave religion out of this. It wouldn’t be any different if I ended all my reviews with hail Satan. Religion is your business and doesn’t have anything to do with perfumes.

Yes, I agree this is one of top 10 all time classics. Present form is far from the vintage.
I sometimes thought it is to honey sweet, but no, that’s part of the brilliant balance in the blending.
With Spring time near, I think I will love wearing this on cool Spring days.
It is fresh spicy and green, with the rosemary, Clary sage, and oak moss accord. Then the pleasant manly florals are in the background with lavender and geranium. Then you have the smooth and aromatic rosewood, who’s woodiness blends so well with the overall natural greeness.
Then you have the dominant sweet honey note, but the overall freshness does balance the sweetness. The honey note does give it that distinct aroma, together with the other notes, that makes it distinctly PR Pour Homme (vintage). There is a great floral, proberbly the jasmine I’m thinking, or I would almost guess lilly of the valley.
I think the vintage has some bay leaf. The honey and bay leaf are mostly what give PR vintage it’s distinctive smell. It does smell dated, but still so unique and enjoyably, natural, fresh and green!
    Rating: 10/10 vintage, 6.5/10 present.

A very Spicy and synthetic old aged classic fragrance. Although I did not liked it very much but i got a lot of compliments wearing it. The fresh spices are very prominent in top notes which settles down with earthy/soapy touch. It a good cologne in its price but for 30+ males not for youngsters.

For my personal taste, one of the 10 best fragrances ever created, for its simplicity, its freshness, its memories.
A Retro perfume, which has long been in the “Hall of Fame” of perfumery.
How many memories brings me this aroma. It reminds me the songs of Frank Sinatra And Abba.
It has overcome the barrier of time, bravely resisting the new trends.
