Description

Osmanthus is a cheerful and romantic fragrance of spring. This beautiful plant with white flowers, which smells sweet and gentle, is widely used in garden landscaping, as well as in tea in east Asia (China and Japan).

Juicy and cheerful notes of pomelo and sweet plant davana (sort of artemisia), with a bitter nuance of pimento transform into a heart full of moist white petals. The heart blooms with jasmine and osmanthus absolute, its fruity and fresh nuance is accentuated with an aquatic note of water lily. White flowers rest on an elegant base made of woody and musk notes (cedar, labdanum resin, vetiver and musk).

The fragrance is available in eau de parfum or Made to Measure Parfum for which the customer selects the concentration, a solid perfume compact, bath and body products and candles.
Osmanthus was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Geza Schoen.

As someone who grew up with osmanthus flowers, I have to say that Ormonde Jayne’s Osmanthus does not smell like the authentic flower; however, it smells very pleasant and refreshing. To me, it smells like freshly squeezed grapefruit juice mixed with iced jasmine tea. It is quite sweet, but not overly sweet like the sugar bombs that are taking over the designer market right now. Instead, it smells like it was sweetened with a tad bit of raw honey. The tartness from the citrusy notes and the sweetness makes my mouth water. The smell is almost good enough to drink on a hot summer day.

As someone who truly appreciates perfume but by no means considers myself an expert, this is one of my most favorite scents, and I’ve tried a lot. It smells like sun kissed skin, mellow spring flowers and the most expensive haircut from a salon that uses decadent products. It smells flowery but deep and rich and adult, like I’m a woman in my 30s and a mom and now I smell like the most clean and romantic and best version of myself.

This is not the smell of true osmanthus absolute, but it’s an exquisite interpretation! Think of this as an upscale Roger & Gallat, with almost every facet amplified without heaviness. The pomelo is juicy and fruity as opposed to citrusy, and I smell more water lily than jasmine, with a clean powdery aftertaste. It’s very classy, inoffensive, and suitable for everyday.
I spent almost $50 to get samples from the official site before it was available to the U.S… Now selling Rose Gold (1ml/$9), Passionate Love & Qi Intensivo (1.5ml/$11 each) + shipping

I was happy to get a discovery set on the black Friday, with 30% off and free shipping internationally.
As someone who has already reviewed most of her perfume, including this one, I find this to be a very up lifting scent.
Actually I don’t like the real osmanthus scent nor citrus perfumes as some of them have a very strong sour scent, so I didn’t expect anything. But, It is truly beautiful, fruity, fresh and elegant scent.
I sprayed my stomach and the inside of both my wrists at 8:00am. Now it’s 1:30pm and I can still feel the fresh fruity scent from my wrists and the round gentle sweetness from my stomach.
It’s very fresh but not pungent or strong.
As you can see from the price and the gorgeous bottles,I think these perfume are for the mature person not for girls.
By the way, in my country, Japan, traditionally Osmanths is the seasonal flower for autumn but it seems some type have flowers in other seasons including spring. The tress have yellow orange flowers and deliver a strong sweet scent. I often see the trees in school, and my junior high school also had these trees just in front of the toilets, so for me the osmanthus scent is linked to school toilets. Thus, I didn’t have any interest in this flower’s perfume so far, thanks to this perfume, my image of this flower has changed for the better. I feel like I would like to try another osmanthus perfume.

I wore Osmanthus yesterday and many people asked me what is my perfume. I went to L’occitane shop and sales woman said “i really like your perfume, its smell very fresh and beautiful”. It is pure beauty and very refreshing. I’m feel very happy when i wear it and smell Osmanthus. Love you Osmanthus!

Sample gifted which om testing from…initially i was seduced by the bright juicy uplifting top notes…they dissipated quite soon into the frag to leave a soft floral heart. I dont smell the paprika but ibget some sort of heat radiating from my wrist. I changed my rating from love to like because now this is on the dry down i get a similar impression / vibe as cool water!

Osmanthus is called sweet olive where I’m from and it is planted everywhere. If I now lived somewhere it would thrive I would definitely have it in my yard. The smell is my favorite in the world. If you want to know what osmanthus flowers smell like, the best likeness I have ever experienced is Nippon Kodo’s Osmanthus incense. It is divine and makes me house smell like my grandparent’s neighborhood. Also divine is Ormond Jayne Osmanthus. If you want to know what osmanthus smells like ,this isn’t going to get you any closer. If you want to smell a wonderfully crafted, beautiful modern floral, this should be on your list. When the paprika kicks in, it almost tickles your nose.
A hint: If you think you are smelling apricots, you are picking up the osmanthus. It smells very much like fresh apricots.
Edit: Just moments after submitting this, the osmanthus came flying out at me. It really starts to shine about an hour after application. It smells so good, I feel homesick.

The unmistakeable fruity fragrance of osmanthus that gets some citrus zip from the pomelo which is unmistakeable. I like the way the jasmine and lotus make the perfect supporting act to the leading performers adding some freshnessness and more depth. The vetiver and the artemesia come much more to the fore as the lead actors bow out after half an hour. They add their own herbally freshness with the musk their to restrain any potential harshness. I really like the opening but unfortunately I am not so keen once the transient osmanthus has gone. I know osmanthus is most definitely a top note and it doesnt last long. What a shame! It would be gorgeous to wear in a warm conditions.

Now Ormonde Jayne, credit where credit is due. This is beautiful just reminds one of a really well kept Indian garden. Sunny, sipping G&Ts and sitting down for a spot of Tea in Assam. Lovely floral execution and clean and fresh. It is a beautiful beautiful smell. Price wise, not worth the it but nice.

I love osmanthus in perfume, but I’ve never actually smelled the real thing (the number of smells I only know from perfumes is akin to the number of words I only know from reading so I can’t actually pronounce them!). To me, this is a wonderful osmanthus perfume, but reading some of the reviews here from people who have smelled the real thing makes me realise I should qualify that by saying it’s a wonderful osmanthus perfume compared to other osmanthus perfumes I’ve tried, not the real thing.
Ok, that out of the way, we get to another note I’m not familiar with – polemo. This opens with a juicy burst of a smell halfway between lemon and grapefruit which I assume is polemo. It’s very nice. I don’t detect any paprika at all, which is a shame.
The osmanthus shows up gradually. At first it just peeps out, but then it slowly gets louder. It’s super soft, all creamy floral apricot. Very pretty.
I don’t notice water lily or jasmine, save for a hint of white flowers lurking in the background. It’s very well blended.
The final dry down is slightly woody, but there isn’t much going on in the way of a base.
This is a “safe” perfume for people who don’t want boring. It’s well considered and beautifully blended.
Very soft sillage and great longevity.

Very lovely summer perfume. There is lot of bad comment about it but I don’t think so Osmanthus is a poor floral. There is something in drydow, creamy, cute and uplifting. Osmanthus also very long lasting perfume and I got many compliments when I wear it. I really like it so much and need a another bottle before the end of the bottle in my perfume wardrob.

I’ve been revisiting my Ormonde Jayne Discovery set. Osmanthus was something I passed over on my first go round as not being terribly interesting but I’ve spent enough time with Woman, Man and Orris Noir that their novelty has worn off enough that I can look at the other, less out there Ormonde Jayne’s.
This is actually a very lovely and unique fragrance. I don’t get much of the citrus. For me it’s a gorgeous, plush and almost buttery floral scent with the standard Ormonde Jayne cedar and iso e super dry down. There really isn’t a bad scent in this line.

This is very much alike Flora by Gucci but eith better ingredients and, oh, so less sillage and lasting power! Nice, pleasant citric-osmanthus scent. Not worthy the price tag, unfortunately!

I have it now on my right hand’s wrist.
Yes, indeed, as you said, very citrusy opening. Quite strong.
I had on the left wrist the Tiare (one squirt each, test them in parallel) and didn’t feel anything from Tiare, Osmanthus totally invaded my nose. I had to supplement Tiare with one spray, to be the same potent as Osmanthus.
    But things changed dramatically.
Now, an hour after, Osmanthus is a very faint citrusy-flowery smell, it nearly vanished from my skin.
And Tiare develops and projects. And develops and projects. … and….
    EDIT:
    OMG !
An hour before Osmanthus was totally gone.
    Now, Osmanthus is back.
Strong resionous and woody smell, with some hints of citruses and florals.
    Impressive!
This woman is a witch ! What kind of fragrances she creates?
    EDIT ii:
After more than 3 hours the woody-mossy drydown with more than a hint of tobacco is still noticeable and exudes a very relaxed, casual vibe.
    Remarcable!

I really love the sparkly, refreshing yet complex scent, from the opening to the drydown. Alas, my perfume-eating skin only allows a 2-3 hours longevity on my skin. I will return to my first OJ love when flowers in Italy are in full bloom and my skin plumps up a bit. For now, I’ll quench my thirst for this juice with other vials from OJ’s sample collection.

I am on the last few spritzes of my 50ml bottle of Osmanthus EdP and it makes me a bit sad. I don’t want to use it up. This has been frequently used, especially on days when you want your scent to convey that you mean business. This is exactly what Osmanthus can do, in an appropriately authoritative but not overpowering way (depending on the dosage). One of those frags that suits every occasion and still makes you feel special.
If you have tried other OJs you know the deal. Beautiful citrusy opening but this time rounded with sweetness of davana. This lasts about 30 minutes and gives way to subtle, elegant flowers embedded in warmth of musk, cedar and vetiver. On me, this remains quite liner after the citrus fades. Some of the radiance of pomelo is still present in the drydown, it is a beautiful woody-musky with a hint of citrus&flowers. I think the main accords above are more descriptive about the first 30 minutes than the drydown.
I have not been fortunate enough to experience osmanthus irl so I cannot comment on whether this is anything like the inspiration. Osmanthus EdP is very pleasant and if spritzed appropriately, you& and people in the same room can detect its presence, and appreciate, not detest it. If you go trigger-happy, you will suffocate people. Excellent longevity (easily 9 hours, I rarely go without shower for longer), points for sillage too (depending on the dosage you can get nice or knock-down-all-living-things-within-10-meters projection).
I enjoyed wearing this, got lots of compliments and will likely repurchase again when my shelves empty a bit;)

Oh, this is PRETTY. So pretty. That gorgeous little pomelo lifts OJ’s Osmanthus to another level. This perfume is sunny, bright, happy and a wonderfully grown-up fruity floral! Never cloying or sickeningly sweet, but warm, spicy, well-rounded beauty in a bottle.
Projection is rather good. There’s something generally more substantial to this fragrance that grabs the attention. I think it’s the paprika – the prickly heat raises the profile of the scent, whereas the most of the other osmanthus fragrances I’ve tried keep their heads down, tend to be gentler floral compositions and stay in the background in comparison. Longevity is excellent.

    Parfum Review
Oh my God. This was such a lackluster decision on my part to add to the sample pile that I removed it two times. Honestly, there’s not a note listed above that I like, and I’m only luke warm about musk.
Well now… fancy me loving a watery, fast-flowing aquamarine floral. This had me at hello, and it must be the pomelo that bursts forth, and wowza is all I can say about it. This wears like a kiss from a six year old ballerina. Delicate, fresh, and light on its feet. Makes you smile and think you could too could stand on your tippie toes and do a spin.
I’d put this one right next to Apres L’ondee on my shelf, this is the sunshine after the rain.

I did not expect to like this fragrance, as I usually find “warm and sunny” citrus-based fragrances problematic for me. I think what really makes this special is the addition of beautiful floral and musk notes that keep this from seeming to “sparkling” to me. I find this scent stays more linear throught it’s wear, which is unlike so many of the Ormonde fragrances that really bloom and change over time. The dry down smells much like the opening, just less citrus. This has turned out to be one of my favorite scents from the line, it is just perfect for warm weather when one wants something with a little impact without being overly heavy. I just adore this fragrance and it ended up being one of my first full bottle purchases from this line.

    This scent is delightful indeed…
    True sensuality in liquid form…
It starts very subtle and citrusy, then the water lily and jasmine sambac reveal themselves…after an hour or so, it starts to settle into a gentle and sophisticated cedar and animalic musk…which is sensual and erotic…
    Great longevity and sillage…

Ormonde Jayne OSMANTHUS is a fairly fruity floriental to my nose, opening with a strong citrus demeanor which fades to some extent though the fruitiness never really goes away. This leads me to suppose that osmanthus may itself have a fruity aspect to it, which I found also in KM OSMANTHUS, though in that composition I felt that the floral was close to cherry blossom, and I don’t feel that way here.
OJ OSMANTHUS definitely has a heft to it: this is not a dilute frag but a fruity floral perfume, and I do detect a substantive resin note throughout, further evidence for which is the good longevity of this creation. The oriental quality I attribute to the pimento and davana (an Egyptian herb, according to the house’s literature). I recommend this perfume to fruity floral lovers looking for niche-quality notes. The fruitiness here is rather significant, but it is not overly sweet and smells entirely natural to me.
I’m still not sure what osmanthus itself smells like, so my quest for further clarity on this note continues…

As far as I know, I have never smelled osmanthus flowers, so can’t judge how close this scent comes to the real thing, or where the “osmanthus” note is in the mix. The good thing about not knowing is that I could not be disappointed if there was nothing osmanthus-like in the scent. I tried my sample for the first time last night, and the scent is still lingering this morning, so it has good staying power. It starts out with a smooth citrusy, herbal, floral bouquet that remains throughout the evolution of the scent. After about a half hour, I found that the most prominent impression was of green tea with jasmine. In fact, I would classify this as a “tea” scent rather than a floral. The drydown holds no surprises, it’s just a gradual fading of everything. I really didn’t get much in the way of base notes.
My opinion is that floral scents smell good only on flowers, not on me, but thanks to its strong tea notes, OJ’s Osmanthus is a “floral” that I could wear on occasion.

Osmanthus flower plays an important role in Chinese culture. Osmanthus has the same pronunciation as word “honor” in chinese, so people thought it stands for wealth and rank. In old days, almost every high society family would have this plant in their gardens. As the osmanthus flower has the honey-ish sweet smell, chinese people love to use it to flavor food. The local shops also have monothemed osmanthus fragrances sold on their shelvs.
This love for osmanthus made me quite exciting when I got a small sample of this scent, I expected a realistic osmanthus smell. But it turned into a little bit disappointment after trying it on: OJ’s Osmanthus is not what I expected, it not at all resemble to the real flower.
It has juicy pomelo in the openning, very fresh, then some sweet notes here and there, not floral nor fruity, something light and between. This is the only thing that I could link the scent with the real osmanthus flower, it’s like a faint image you get from a sketch.
Despite the disappointment, I can’t deny its lovely aspects. This is the most cheerful scent I got so far. Smell of spring! It’s simple, linear(it doesn’t change much, only less citrusy and more softer), but it does the trick.
If you expect a “real” osmanthus scent as I did, then don’t bother to try, it won’t satisfy you. But if you are finding something up-lifting, lovely with a hint of osmanthus feel but not overwhelming, OJ’s Osmanthus would be what you’re looking for.

I mostly get the upper notes, in a watery, sunny floral blend. It’s pretty and shiny, though I could wish for more base notes. Very pretty.
