Description
Celine Verleure announces the sixth fragrance of her collection Olfactive Studio which will premiere at the sixth exhibition of artistic perfumery Esxence in Milan 2014.
Just to tingle our imagination before we test the latest fragrance, Celine has announced passionate and fuscous perfume Ombre Indigo as the scent of shadow… The enigmatic and mysterious blend of woody notes and smoky resins reveals luminous tuberose flowers hiding in the essence of the composition. Perfumer of the edition is Mylene Alran while the photo of the outer carton is work by Gustavo Pellizzon. Its flacon is made of heavy glass and has the same elegant form as previous editions of the collection, but this time it has beautiful indigo blue liquid.
Fragrance Olfactive Studio Ombre Indigo will be available in flacons of 50 and 100ml Eau de Parfum.

I quite like it! A gorgeous leather scent of a shiny leather sofa with a glas of plum whiskey besides. Very non-personal, strict, unisex scent. I think it would suit anyone with some leather experience, not a scent for a newbie 🙂
Longevity 4-5h being a skin scent after ~3 hours. I like the color of the juice, but I am afraid it may leave disclorations on clothes…

Smells a lot like lalique Hommage a l’homme Voyageur, with added plum.

I absolutely love this – the best fragrance from this house since Chambre Noire. On me, it’s a frankincense scent, plus smoke, some leather and a touch of plum. No florals. DeadIdol might be right about the top-loading, which is OK by me. I smell great when I put it on, great in the car, great when I kiss my friends hello and it begins to fade before we eat. It feels just right on this misty September morning when the sunlight’s streaming low through the branches and I’m about to light the woodburner. This goes in my ‘cosy’ collection of autumn/winter frags with things such as L’Air du Desert Marocain, Incense Avignon, Dune, Five O’Clock au Gingembre, Jeux de Peau, Douce Amère, Chergui, Cèdre and Santal Majuscule. One to wear while curling up in front of a log fire with a woolly sweater, a good book and a glass of Rivesaltes.

Do NOT blind buy this!
It smells like burnt plastic. Everything about this perfume is great except the scent itself! The juice in the bottle looks amazing and very lovely, but the scent is not good at all.
The longevity is so good that you can’t get rid of it before 12 hours, no matter how much you try to wash it.
I’m gonna avoid this beautiful bottle…

“After wearing Cuir Ottoman yesterday, it is an interesting contrast to put on Ombre Indigo. They are both dominated by a leather chord but where Cuir Ottoman is a dry powdery leather, Ombre Indigo is a fruity, moist and darker leather.
The sweetening with plum works really well and Ombre indigo gives an oriental vibe probably created by the Frankincense, plum and saffron.
Unfortunately the scent fades fairly rapidly and the dry down is, on my skin, very faint and uninteresting”
I only highlight this input because I’ve been wanting Cuir Ottoman for YEARS…since I smelled it in MIN NewYork Apothecary. But 200plus bottles later…I still havent picked it it. The after purchasing the sample set of Olfactive Studio..(7) in the box, 3 from the seller (Perfumology/Nir Guy) King Of Prussia Pa, who BTW has a lovely fragrance called “BLYSS” This fragrance behaves mysteruiously in “Wafting” Out of the 3 hours I wore it..it was STRONG…and changing all the time…back and forth, sideways and horizontally.
I was leaning for a full bottle, Chambre Noire, AutoPortrait, or The NEW “Close Up” which reminds me just a bit of Kilians Black Phantom. All in All this has taken a step forward in my first bottle acquisition of a OS Product. I disagree with the “uninteresting” comment. Again being a collector of ALL 99% Niche……This smells like NOTHING in my CAGE……So it’s a candidate as soon as the smoke clears from a few others on the list…..one of which must be had ASAP………a FULL Flacon of BAT by Zoologist. Check me out on YOUTUBE. RaJuR real deep kool.

Juicy leather, like a better (albeit much more expensive) take on Rihanna Rogue. It’s not cloying and it’s sweetness balanced by dry notes. Good lasting power, though it stays close to the skin for me.

I’ve been wanting to try this out for a couple years and I finally bought myself 10mls of it.. I think what attracted me most to this fragrance was the gorgeous blue liquid, then the notes of course. Olfactive Studio’s approach with their offerings is so unique and I really don’t mind shelling out the cash for a couple of their offerings. This fragrance is amazing and underwhelming damn time lol…..I mean I love how it opens and blossoms throughout but I don’t like that it fades to something kinda blah and doesn’t stick around long on my skin. Everyone is talking about plum and leather, I get that as well and my God it’s gorgeous! I know that I said it was underwhelming as far as perfomance goes but I’d still buy this, overspray it and enjoy it to the very last spray….

If you liked Black Afgano, definitely try this one. Ombre Indigo is a dark herbateous perfume with a sweet resinous edge.
And even though it’s an EdP all the stong materials (petitgrain, plum, tuberose, incense, papyrus, vetiver, and leather smoothed with benzoin) make it smell as if it’s an extrait.
The structure is quite complex and layered compared to BA and it does much more than shouting “pot” in your face.

If you want the true scoop on this fragrance and a correct assessment of the whole OS line in general read Deadidol’s review below.
I totally agree that they are top loaded, with the exception of maybe Chambre Noire? So much promise in the opening notes only to lead to disappointment.
Indeed there’s clever notes in here and at first this was an instant hit with me, not expected either being slightly fooled by the colour of the juice.
Plummy, tart strong opening with loads of resinous beauty, I’d say more benzoin warmth the olibanum but let’s just call it…resins.
I can definitely smell a sandalwood, papyrus note as it begins to settle, further beefing out this heavy weight oriental vibe, but adding something doey almost wheat like. (Think Jeux des peu) I don’t usually like papyrus but when used sparingly in the right composition I can enjoy it. Ombre Indigo just about gets away with it and the fragrance settles to a leathery, earthy vetiver. It’s actually quite the mixture of elements and as such a unique smelling perfume so it needs to be applauded for that. However, I keep coming back to the fact the drydown doesn’t live up to the glory of the opening. I can’t comment on the performance really as this is only the second wear (and I don’t recall the performance first time) but I can tell it’s fading already and I only applied it an hour and a half ago. Promising start but destined to go the way of other Olfactive Studios releases, shame really. I’m a romantic though and as such this fragrance still gets a love from me despite obviously having problems, If you discard them and judge the smell especially the opening then this perfume deserves praise.

I am a woman easily bored, sometimes I feel like one half of the Ab Fab duo waiting or searching for the next thrill. If I can’t make anyone near me suffer I go on wild searches on Fragrantica notes trying to find the impossible. Plum and Olibanum???…why not? And I got it!They say, be careful what you wish for, and they are right. WHAT a majestic, intoxicating marvel!!! This is Oriental to the core with modern nuances, utterly wearable, sultry, hot, delicious and sexy with bells on!! I only wax lyrical like that for my Arabic concoctions but Ombre Indigo is an uncommon scent, straight out of 1001 Nights modernised with Leather, spiced with saffron, with touches of erotic carnality from musk, ambergris and tuberose and an exotic touch from papyrus. Oakmoss keeps everything slightly fresh without taking away the overall intimate sensation. A major contributor here is leather, which projects more like clean steamy skin in close contact perfumed with fruits and greens. So balsamic, memorable and unique! This is a rare marvel among western concoctions. Totally unisex, yet, on a man….lethal! The smouldering smoke projects well and lasts long. I can’t recommend this strongly enough. An utter winner!!!!!

Very interesting and unique. Some notes of leather, smoke, and plum are present, mostly smelling like leather mixed with liquid paper on my skin. I love Chambre Noir, but I am staring to wonder about the rest of the offerings from this house.
Good power and sillage. Rating 6/10.

The smell of plums and Band-aids, in water, was my FIRST impression. Wearing now, will review later.
UPDATE: Okay, after wearing awhile, I was right: smells like plum-flavored water and band-aids.

Beautiful and mysterious! for me it is an enigmatic fragrance, different, and warm. I like the opening, and as it evolves through the notes reveals something “rubbery”, is a complex perfume, with plum always present in the background, giving the scent the right amount of light they need. The drydown reveals truly captivating with the notes of benzoin, ambergris and musk …. is a very modern and unique scent. Suitable for autumn or even winter .. this wraps me in a warm aura, making me feel “protected” and charismatic. Among my favorites of Olfactive Studio…. The sillage is moderate, and good longevity.

It’s about time I write a review about this one since I have the day off work today. My days off are my favourite time to cloth myself in my fragrances. I pour it on thick.
This has been one of my favourites for quite a while.
This fragrance is an illusion. The blue juice leads you to believe that you could be dealing with an Aquatic. WRONG. The companies description is quite accurate. At first you think this is a strong leather/incense woody accord. But that is just the Top & Middle notes playing with your mind. The top notes do fade away rather quickly and that is when you smell the floral notes. The floral notes never become “feminine” in my point of view, just gentle. And it’s important to note that for me, the leather notes never completely went away. When I wear it, the incense and woody notes eventually disappear but not the leather. I LOVE that. Its like a leather floral. IMO this is a masculine scent, although I am a believer that all scents are universal for everyone.
This is one has a bold personality, quite different than the others in the line that I’ve tried.
Tough on the outside, but sensitive on the inside. (Sort of like me.;) But you should beware, this one will grow hair on your chest.

Plum leather that exudes mystery. Fades into a light leather with vetiver hoovering in background. In the winter it pops in the summer it’s fresh. Versatile.
sviridov.10.12.1990 – :
Warm and sexy manly body-odor type of scent, but not an unclean smell. On me (a woman) this is a bit too much. Strong leather note.
My cat showed interest in this perfume, and this is the first time I see my cat reacting to a fragrance. Don’t know what that means. I guess it doesn’t smell synthetic.

This is a love or hate kind of fragrance due to its bold strokes: to me it was love. From the dreamy indigo color to the rich cloud of resins, leather, saffron, and plum which It surrounds you with. What a dreamy juice. Totally unisex in my opinion. Definitely an evening scent due to its powerful sillage. My favorite from Olfactive Studio.
aad89 – :
This niche perfume line was completely inspired by the art of photography.
The photographer of this work was the Brazilian Gustavo Pellizzon and the inspiration of this fragrance was the shadow, which precedes us, follows us and surrounds us. Without it, there is no light movements.
The perfumer was Mylène Alran, from Robertet, who has already created for Grés, Lalique and Bentley.
This fragrance was launched in 2014 and is composed by notes of petitgrain, tuberose absolute, plum and saffron, in the output; Essences of vetiver and Papyrus, in addition to leather and incense, in the heart; At the base, notes of amber, musk and benzoin.
To be honest, I don’t even know where to start. The blue color of the liquid is mesmerizing and the scent that exudes on the skin is stunning. The company does not explain, but I believe the name indigo represents two different things: the blue color and the type of plum used, which is the Indian plum, also known as Governor’s Plum (Flacourtia Indica).
Ombre Indigo is quite linear and, although labeled as unisex, has a more masculine approach, in my opinion. In the first time I wore, I remember saying: “it has saffron”. And I was not wrong!
On my skin, the fragrance has developed on 3 main accords: tuberose, saffron and incense. The other nuances work as background, but are no less important. When touches the skin, the plum appears, sexy and fruity. The tuberose is very balanced and creamy, unlike the carnal and floral aspect, which is common and even uncomfortable for many people. The aroma of the saffron flower is divine and brings the leathery smell that lasts until the heart, when the leather note arises. The incense extends the smoky aspect of the fragrance, which ends with the sweet sensuality of benzoin.
Ombre Indigo is not a perfume that surprises in evolution. As stated above, is linear, although possessing explosive output. And for this reason, tends to confuse the user, who does not notice changes and may end up suffering from olfactory fatigue. But don’t be fooled, since it projects well for about two hours and remains on the skin for more than 12 hours, especially in muggy climates like here, in Brazil.
Try Ombre Indigo and let this blue shadow follow you, even in times of darkness.

This is the equivalent of new car smell for people, like what used car dealers spray around the interiors of old beaters with uncleanable ash trays.
Horrible opening that’s almost pine-like, then a morbid floral that feels like a chemical reproduction of saffron, mixed with maybe papyrus and water?
After an hour’s dry down something that might be organic, like a very bad and unappetizing leather. Just terrible. Avoid like you would the salesman with the greasy comb-over and the dollar signs in his eyes.
igorkukur – :
I got this as a free sample with a twisted lily order and I’m happy I did. It opens great, a singing combination of smooth, delicate leather, some smoky incense, naturalistic plum, soft florals and mild woody nuances. It smells like a smooth, soft purple leather glove holding an exotic potpourri. Theres nothing that especially wows me but Its nice. As it dries down it becomes more of a fruity-floral but not in a cheap, tweenage girl way. I can’t help but feel that the drydown is a little boring to be honest. It’s only appeal is that it somewhat resembles the opening which Is much more enjoyable. The quality is obvious as it lasted all day on me and I can still sense it on my wrist after like 14 hours. Its a like, not a love. It does interest me in trying more olfactive scents though! 6/10
AWAIBREEXCEGE – :
I think that this is one of the best openings of a scent in some time — it’s an entirely engaging take on leather, resins, and an almost camphorous fruit note. It doesn’t smell synthetic at all, and yet it smells like something that couldn’t exist in nature. Smoky, rubbery, leather with fruits and spices pitched just right — it’s a true show-stopper.
But I mean that literally in that the show stops once the opening notes have subsided. And that’s what’s frustrating about this generally mediocre line — everything they do is front-loaded, from the packaging, to the photography gimmick, to the scent concepts themselves (and I own a bottle from them, too). Ombre Indigo represent deceptive niche in this regard. It’s pulling a similar move to what crap mall scents employ — suck you in with an engaging opening and some beautiful colored perfume. Once your card’s swiped and you’re on you way out of the store, that’s when you start to realize that your new purchase is already falling apart. Ombre Indigo is fantastic for 20 minutes and then it becomes a mundane vetiver of the most insipid kind. What’s sad about this approach is that it’ll work — it might even win the company some awards from judges who don’t stick around long enough to smell anything beyond the top notes. What’s underscored by Ombre Indigo is superficiality — not just of the scent, but of the whole line and its approach to perfume.

Ombre Indigo
—————
One of the most unbearable openings I have come across. Just unbearable. One can smell that leather loathed into some green grass and some other filthy stuff.
The drydown is still little bearable however the leather here is not like worthy. Absolutely Daring but whats the use of that dare when its offensive and unpleasant.
Not a great scent in anyways cause all i see in a scent is the feel good factor and this one is million miles away from it. This is way too much dare. thumbs down.
Don’t be deceived by that color.
oqp534Bessinepome – :
I really like this, there’s a song like ‘cold -heart bitch’ well, that somehow would fit this fragrance…I think Indigo is quite a good match for the fragrance, although maybe just as easy to think of another colour if not prompted by marketing. Ok, I’ll try to think of another one…how about steel gray? Probably not as poetic as indigo though. I give them that.
Someone below mentioned Nuit Etoilee, I think that’s pretty accurate, there’s a slight piney feel to this fragrance. The leather is quite plushy, not too butch. Resins and vetiver also quite pronounced. Not that sure about the rest. It don’t smell flowers or fruits but it might as well be that the edges are softened by them. The musk is quite noticeable though.
P.S. I shall give it another try but I had a fit of sneezing after application which is quite unusual. Will see if that’s induced by the perfume or not.
trersatoTaw – :
Reminds me annick goutal nuit etoilee without the air freshener part and frapin speakeasy drydown, better texture than the other two. Better balance.
Assassins147 – :
great crystal note… amazingly done to be honest & quite different than his other bad creations. plum and Olibanum are splattered, placed in crystal ball and shaked up hardly. the table is made of leather, black leather, and beside that crystal ball there is a glass of rum, sweet vanilla rum!! and the tent (which this table in) smells like cedar & ambergris. quite good and mysterious. it is truly the smell of shadow and mystery.
smil14 – :
I like Ombre Indigo but I’m not wowed by it. On the positive side, it features a very well done leather note. The leather is realistic, resembling the worn, comfortable variety that is neither too old and rugged or too new and freshly polished. It reminds me of the leather you might smell in a pair of reliable boat shoes. It’s immediately recognizable and not at all unpleasant, which is my issue with some leather frags, as they tend to smack you in the face with an aggressive, almost brutal pungency. Not here. The leather is pure and upfront, but there’s no threatening message behind it, or imposing intent. Along with the leather, the olibanum is resinous, a bit smoky, and it has a nice touch of that warm, crusty, salty “cat’s fur,” note that pops up more obviously in the base of fragrances such as L’Ombre Fauve, Blackbird, and Vikt. But it’s a quiet incense, and serves to compliment the leather rather than steal the show. Finally, the leather feels encapsulated in a kind of watery, almost-fruity plum accord. It’s a very interesting and beautiful compliment to the leather, however, this is where I also take issue with Ombre Indigo. The plum-like, “Indigo” aspect is too dialed back. It peaks its head out for a brief moment of brilliance and then recedes into the shadows. I want more of it. While I don’t wish for it to take over, I want it to come out and play and make itself known. There’s such an interesting result from the combination of the leather and the dark, watery plum, that if this was brought out a bit more, and was the true focus of Ombre Indigo I would certainly want to own it. But as it stands, excluding some of the spicy saffron and the olibanum, Ombre Indigo seems more like 85% leather, 15% Indigo (the dark plum). I would love to see it split around 65/35. For me, this one just missed the mark of greatness.
Sillage is moderate, longevity is good, and the color of the juice is remarkable. Try it for yourself as this is a pretty good fragrance, and the plum facet may develop better on your skin than it does on mine.
Freken bok – :
Really great, hard to describe fragrance. Somewhat plumy, leathery, woody, frankincense, dry, earthy, little sweetness from saffron… Really complex and well put together, it feels modern and elegant. Very different but memorable, likable and easy to wear. I’d say this will probably appeal more to men. Really worth trying out, my favorite from Olfactive line.
tsw_71 – :
Olfactive Studio is a small niche house with only 6 fragrances from 6 noses to its name so far. Each perfumer was paired with work from a different photographer as the basis for the inspiration for each scent. Ombre Indigo is the latest and I think, the best offering from OS thus far.
Presented as “the scent of a shadow”, OI is a smoky, resinous and quite unique blend that features primarily olibanum, benzoin and leather, balanced fascinatingly by vetiver, tuberose, saffron, plum and petitgrain. This is a composition I’ve not come across before and on my skin it works wonderfully well! As you can see in the photo above, the juice itself is a gorgeous indigo blue (hence the name), which I also love!
The opening is amazing and has one’s nose going in all different directions wondering “what sorcery is this?” (yes, apparently my nose has a brain now!). Then disappointment briefly seems to take over as the scent appears to wander off. But then it does something odd & re-emerges once again in a more refined, less pointy manner and lasts for hours. This really is a fine juice from an emerging house with some great ideas. Recommended!
eufr – :
Very well structured scent. The leather notes are very strong and consistent but I can not perceive the fruity notes. After about half an hour, it remains a clean balsamic fragrance, pleasant clean but nothing transcendental. For leather notes lovers might like it a lot. Long-lasting and moderate sillage.
ksenija2195 – :
It doesn’t smell so leathery neither smoky to my nose. This fragrance is sweet fruity/ floral at fist. Becomes light balsamic and woody, but the fruity part remains strong in dry down. Leathery part of this fragrance are very light and it’s not that kind of dirty leathery which I love. Woody part are so clean and light.
Ombre Indigo is a safe and friendly combination of fruity, balsamic and woody scents. There’s no bitterness or dirtiness in this blue green juice. The plum smells a bit unripe and have a synthetic grape character.
If you like this type of fragrance on your skin, although I don’t like it, highly recommend it to you.
A long lasting Fragrance with moderate sillage, so gentle and kinda unique.

This indeed is some beautiful juice. Rich, plummy and leathery are the first things that come to mind. Unfortunately, it’s just not my kind of frag. I should know better than to blindly buy an Oriental Floral, regardless of how highly rated this is. I bought 2 – 100 ml bottles and I’m going to keep one just because it’s unique and the juice so eye-catching. Impressive packaging, too. The other will likely go up onto eBay.

This is some truly nice juice. Starting from the color which is absolutely mesmerizing (those who are already familiar with Olivier Durbano’s fragrances, might find the color idea a bit deja-vu though).
A big butch animalic leather supported by a vetiver-incense bone structure while tuberose-ish nuances slightly enhance the overall rubbery vibe. Saffron and green notes provide both depth and extra body. Striking yet somewhat easy to pull off. Powerful but not overly challenging. Very very nice and, for what concerns me, by far the best fragrance Olfactive Studio released thus far.
If you like well done mainstream-ish kind of stuff, go ahead. Very good lasting power. Recommended.
