White and pink lilies + anise + rosemary + clover. Slightly similar to L’Eau par Kenzo or the “blue sweater” by S.Rykiel.
Light, informal, fresh, transparent, a “blue” scent.

This is from a little Borsari scent sample “book” I found at TJMaxx years ago, basically a cardboard box full of little bottles of the scents of Borsari present and historically. “Notte Roman” is no longer in production but I wish so much that it were.
I love this tranquil, nocturnal, shady “blue” anisette like blend, with sweet tonka and velvety greens dancing in starlight. The lily is little more than a cool background breeze, there’s a hint of some spicy wood that feels touched by night dew but the almost orange flower sweetness of the remaining floral notes, lends an exciting brightness to what might have otherwise been a solemn blend.
This is sort of like “L’Heure’ Bleue”, if LHB broke out of her melancholy episode, put down the sugary, fatty pastries and medicine tonic and went out for an evening of fun, once in a while. There’s a brisk, watery freshness to the whole blend that just reminds me of night air.
The image that pops into my mind the second I apply this is someone looking out the window onto a terrace that runs the length of the building, to another across the street. Both buildings are only divided by a tight cobblestone corridor and labyrinth of Venice like walkways and steps, with trees strung with lights popping up between the spaces, blowing in the moonlight, flashes of blue gray, inky night and bright yellow.
While most “blue” blends feel introspective and solitary, any reflection you’d have done while while wearing “Notte Romana” feels like it would be done while fading into a crowd of Saturday night revelers. I really wish they’d revive this one.
