I ordered Nude Musk from the Ava Luxe site and received a sample of this. Now I wish I would have ordered this instead! Where Nude Musk is soft and powdery, like a newborn baby’s head, Number 23 is super-comforting and woody, which is my new favorite type of scent. The top notes come across as similar to 4160’s Sexiest Scent Ever IMHO, which is now my favorite “me only better” scent. Number 23 is smoother though, without a nice fuzziness present in the beginning of 4160’s SSE IMHO. I will definitely be buying this one soon!

No. 23 is the feminine version of Diptyque’s Tam Dao. It’s the same uncomplicated, pure sandalwood scent, but sweeter, softer, and more feminine than Tam Dao. No 23. lacks the initial eye-watering, sharp bite of cypress, the raw sawdustiness, and the ambery drydown of Tam Dao. It is a nutty, slightly sweet, gentle sandalwood scent, perfect for relaxing.

This is just so beautiful! If you love sandalwood, it’s a very true creamy one here. The florals are soft and approachable; I agree with the other reviewers this is a masterpiece! I have 3 wood scents by Ava Luxe, No. 23, Moksha, and Pallisander. They are all well done but this is the best. Wish she sold bigger bottles!

The reviewers before me suggested this as a masterpiece and they are right. It’s warm and cozy and it’s one of the best sandalwood perfumes in the market.
If you adore Samsara ‘s sandalwood and you are looking for a daily alternative not so spicy blended then here you are -this is it!!!
It is easy wearing because it combines woods/florals and little sweetness with a natural touch and it doesn’t seem to be a heavy or strong oriental scent.
It stays for more than average on skin (8 hours pus)….
I am really enjoying the sample i have and soon i will get more of this perfume 🙂

Incensey/sandalwoody gorgeousness, I am soooo thrilled!
This is really a little masterpiece!
I could see this climbing to the top of my dearly beloved incense/sandalwood category, nestled next to the incredible – and sadly, discontinued – Donna Karan Black Cashmere and vintage Samsara by Guerlain.
Its THAT good!
And unlike the other two, which are strictly fall and winter scents for me, Number 23 is also quite wearable in the ultra torrid summers of my corner of the world.
I don’t get a whole lot of floral anything, just a sort of wafting in and out of something utterly wonderful, like sitting in a cool little stone church next to a field full of flowers on an early summer day. The amber is definitely also there, and the added sweetness is very welcome.
The persistence is outstanding, at least 8 hours before any reapplication is necessary, and the projection is really very lovely.
I wish she made bigger bottles, though, this teeny weeny thing I have is nice for purses, but hardly adequate to supply my newly acquired Number 23 habit.
Together with Ava Luxe’s (completely different, equally fab) Love’s True Bluish Light, Number 23 is a hidden jewel. Its very much worth adding to any perfume collection that features woody/incense notes.
9/10 of loveliness all around, a point taken for the minuscule amount proffered.

This is an exceptionally beautiful, sparkling fragrance. It is sunny and joyful but underpinned by a bracing, dry, herbaceous heft and a gorgeous soft sandalwood.
On the right day this is heaven (usually in warm weather); but, sadly, when I wear this in winter it often results in an immediate migraine (it’s those sparkling top notes that are the culprit, I think). It is so gorgeous, though, that I continue to wear it…just steering clear on days I feel particularly sensitive.

A soft, happy and easy to like and wear kind of scent. I use it for casual and it makes me feel relaxed, calm and very sherful.
Starting with some pleasant green nuances and then become softer, kind of pale green scent. It make me think about veils of the softest silk and precious wooden boxes. Like being inside a secret hideout for a celebrated geisha.
After a while I can also smell little whiffs of some very refined incense and the sandalwood base become more noticable.
Very well made, easy to like and longlasting.

I love Chandarmukhi’s image of sunshine in a closet of incense, silk and dried flowers, but after an initial hit of something similar, I get so much blasting sandalwood that I can’t wear this. First on, this was a lovely combination of Rose and Geranium with notes of bright lavender, drying towards a vanilla-like musky base with the faint echo of the flowers and a tiny gentle sweet sandalwood note. As it continues to age on the skin, the sandalwood takes over and becomes very pronounced and powdery. On my skin, this kind of thing inevitably leads to a piercing headache and the insides of my nostrils hurting. No. 23 did this to me and in the end I had to scrub it off. I love the Ava Luxe line and she does many scents I adore. All are complex and well crafted, but some work better than others. This will be great for sandalwood aficionados, but that doesn’t describe me, I’m afraid.

I have only a decant of this great fragrance and I wish I had a gallon. It is so warm and darling, with its spicy powdery geranium leaving place to the genuine sandalwood as it dries down and with its delicate perfectly ballanced other flowers, such as the hawthorn and lavender.
It is like a ray of Indian summer sun coming through a closet with dried flowers, incense sticks and silk dresses.

Hooray! I am so happy to see the Ava Luxe line here on Fragrantica! I look forward to reviewing the handful I have tried so far, and to reading other reviews of her scents. She’s a very talented perfumer!
No. 23 is an amazing scent, and I’m not sure why I don’t have a full bottle of it in my collection yet. Must remedy that soon!
This perfume begins with a slight green overtone that fades to the true sandalwood aroma which is the heart and soul of this fragrance. Those floral notes are not detectible as individual aromas. They give No. 23 a soft come-on, and dry down in an hour or two to the beautiful woody-oriental sandalwood notes.
This one is totally unisex, and totally appropriate for any season. In the summer, No. 23 smells hot, woody and very sexy. I’m confident that it will smell warm and incense-y for winter, too.
The persistence on the EDP is very good and I can still smell it at the end of a work day.
If you’re a fan of incense or sandalwood scents, this one is a must-try. It’s priced very well for such an amazing and long-lasting niche scent.
