I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing this, but the opening is very sour, to the point where it literally makes me salivate. Not particularly pleasant to me for that reason.

A universally pleasing, powdery citrus aromatic. I don’t see musk on the list of notes, but I think it is what constitutes the powder signature of the Shooting Stars series. Nio is simultaneously sweet and dry. The sillage is about 5 feet, which is perfect in my books. I am used to Creed radiating within one to two feet, and I always argued that better quality ingredients result in weaker silliage. I’ve been proven wrong. One thing about Xerjoff that can be an acquired taste is a quality of being from somewhere “else.” I don’t mean another planet, but another culture and perhaps decade. To me Nio, Uden, and Fiero evoke images of the leisure and wedding scenes from The Godfather minus the gangster reference. I guess I’m thinking of Italian and the late 60s to early 70s.

Like Tom Ford Neroli Portofino with more depth and better longevity. The neroli is what stands out to me, but it is more woody and less soapy than TF Neroli Portofino or 4711.

To each his own. Blessings to those who enjoy Nio. I had a visceral reaction to this fragrance. For me, Nio is repulsive straight out of the bottle, like something a kid cooked up with his basement chemistry set, or mothballs soaked in citrus “breakfast drink”. I’m looking at the fragrance pyramid, above, and wondering how this combination of scents combined to form something so medicinal, chemical, and horrible. Nio must be from the “ugly is beautiful” school of art; I “get” it, but I don’t like it. I’d rather gargle with indol than wear this stuff again. I’ll blame the “green notes”… whatever that mysterious term means. I guess people think this fragrance is great. I’ll try to appreciate it more while I strip some varnish with it. Meantime I’m going to sit for a while and inhale anything by Guerlain just to get over my Nio experience. Post-post-post Modernism at its worst: make it vile and they will come. But, hey, I don’t get the big deal over Aventus either. Again, folks, it’s just an opinion.

    Its definitely a high quality
Fragrance but i just dont see what the fuss is about. Bergamot and Neroli are 2 of my favorite notes but this just misses to me. If it were $60 for the bottle i might consider buying. Definite pass for me.

REFORMULATION ALERT!!! The Nio that is currently being sold in the new bottles is NOT the same Nio from the old rectangular bottles. The new version is castrated: that glorious sharp citrusy opening is GONE replaced by a smoother aromatic opening which I don’t care about. Oh I get hints of the old Nio in the background alright, but this is far from being something I’d be willing to spend $250 on, unlike with the old Nio. What a pity…

  7. :

Smelled 100% like a high quality cleaning product. I sold it as I could not get over that vibe. Reneaissance from xerjoff is much better imo for less money.

This is some unique stuff. I’d never usually consider wearing such a scent, as it’s borderline feminine to me. But it just works! It’s different and magical. Dua’s Matrix is an amazing alternative that doesn’t break the bank.

  9. :

It is, indeed, a beautiful citrus/neroli powerhouse. Probably the best at what it aims to achieve. The quality is unmatched.
That said, I do not recommend blind buying due to the price, and quite candidly; I was a bit let down based on the astronomical reviews.
While it is top-shelf quality, I find it rather linear and simple. It simply is: citrus and neroli, and does not deviate too far from that.
I also picked up 1861 Renaissance when I purchased Nio and find it so much more interesting. If you are looking for sharp, bright and shiny citrus, you cannot beat Nio; but if you are like me, and are happy with the likes of Dior Homme Cologne and Mugler Cologne (Mugler Cologne is a gem in my opinion!) which are in the same citrus based vein as Nio, I would rather spend close to $300 on a combination of other fragrances.

Nio is a Luxurious spring and summer King. It’s a fresh fragrance that will blow your mind. Made with ONLY highest quality ingredients; Rich Calabria Bergamot, Green Notes, Neroli, Cardamon, Vetiver and Geranium. This is the aspiration of every fresh fragrance because it delivers on every facet. Perfection on Scent, Longevity, Sillage, and Performance. This is definitely one to sample if your love “freshies.”

@jioffu: it might be the combination of humidity and Nio being a citrus scent, which usually unfortunately just don’t last very long. I live in the tropics with high heat and humidity as well. I usually double spray (meaning I wear overall 8-9 sprays, 2 on each arm, 2 on each side of the neck and maybe one on the chest) Nio and it does last quite well then, actually better then many other citrus frags I have tried. Of course, at this price point it’s a bit annoying to having to run through a bottle faster to get better performance but it just smells so good to me that it’s worth it 😀

  12. :

    5 out of 5

It’s either i’m in the wrong humidity or i just spray too little or this fragrance is just not long lasting. Project good around two hour then become skin scent. The scent itself is clear nice citrus just like you pick up a lemon leaf and tear it and squeeze it under your nose although nothing too special about it. I have such high expectation of it, it just don’t deliver.

  13. :

For the opening, think Bergamote 22 with vibrant green notes and a touch of Neroli. For the dry down, think Creed Original Vetiver with a bit more citrus. Extraordinarily well crafted and surprisingly decent longevity for a citrus scent. Full bottle worthy if you can stomach paying $5/ml for divinity. Or if you have no use for a second kidney.

  14. :

One of the best performing warm weather scents i have tried. It is extremely pleasant and projects quite strongly for the first few hours. I have been sampling this in the winter since that is when i got my sample and it cut through the cold quite easily so i would actually say you could wear this for all seasons but i’m sure it definitely shines the most in the summer. The price is quite scary but i would definitely like to get a bottle of this!

  15. :

A very nice and green scent. I just wish it performed better. Very weak longevity and projection from a high-end brand like this.

  16. :

This frag is a prime example of what I find fascinating about frag comm… Here’s a fragrance that some swear is the second coming of Christ but literally upon first sniff I gag! Holy crap why would anyone pay money to smell like this? BUT THEN THE DRY DOWN KICKS IN & SHORTLY THEREAFTER “THE MAGIC HAPPENS!” I don’t know what happens but after 10 minutes, “The clouds part & the angels begin to sing!” I get a lot here… Mainly a soapy citrus vetiver parade surrounded by a spicy woody amber that just smells like BIG BUCKS! Longevity and projection is through the roof! Get your nose on this one… I’ve never smelled anything like it.

Nio, Nio, Nio. Now that you are in my life, I can not live without you. You are so fresh, so clean and opulent. I get so much pleasure every time that you are on me. Obviously, I am willing to share your smell with all the women that may be around me, as you know Nio, you attract a great following. You are simply the best.
This is the pinnacle of fragrances. LQQK no further. Just get your hands on a bottle of this, period……
    EDIT:
I have just discovered “Jardin d”Amalfi by Creed and I prefer this more than Nio. I never ever believed this would be possible. I love both, Nio & Jardin d’Amalfi, with the latter winning the race….

FREAKING. STUPID. AMAZING. Absolutely brilliant !!!! CITRUS AND WOODS, NUUD!!!

  19. :

Hate to break the news, but the new version is dulled. It has less citrus & neroli, replaced by a prominent “plain Jane” green note that resembles petitgrain without bitterness…

Bright, green, fresh, uplifting. Nio is a summer masterpiece. Extremely high quality as usual with Xerjoff. I would recommend this fragrance to anybody that wants to be unique in the summer.

  21. :

I have tried many fresh scents including the whole Atelier Cologne line (which is known for many “best” freshies ever done). But this freshy is just on another level.
Hands down, easily the best fresh opening ever. I always thought of TF Neroli Portofino the best, but this one beats it.
It starts with the best bergamot note I’ve ever smelled combined with very good neroli. It’s so well done and the notes are balanced in a way that I’ve rarely seen in other freshies. Usually in other freshies there is too much spice or too much cardemom (or not enough). This one has just the perfect amount. Really mouth watering and I love it.
The hype is justified and other people don’t exaggerate when they say this is the best freshy they’ve ever smelled.
And as others said, longevity is its biggest problem. It’ll fade away and after 2 hours you won’t smell anything anymore. And with that price it’s kind of annoying. The first 30 minutes are just magic though and for that alone it’s worth to at least sample this one once in your lifetime.

This is a juicy, crisp, zesty bergamot scent with a green vibe and also neroli in the opening. The opening is a bit too green, also the “green” note smells like straight up chemicals. Towards the end this scent becomes a bit earthy, probably the vetiver. Terrific bottle design (old rectangle one).
Longevity of Xerjoff Nio is unforgivable. Oh well, props for the exquisite bottle peresentation, Xerjoff! (referring to the old square bottle design)

I dont like the green notes in the top notes. But i love the drydown ! Very pleasant and has some good projection.
Must have? I dont think so. But still decent !
P.S. Skews a bit feminine after drydown

The oldest and biggest problem, still unresolved, of citrus perfumes is longevity.
A brand whose concept is not based on budget, as Xerjoff, seems to be the right place to find the ideal citrus perfume and Nio has enough positive reviews, so we can make an effort to test it.
Well, Nio is indeed one of the best citrus I had the opportunity to test – it feels the concentration and high quality of the ingredients. I also have strengthened my belief that one of the magic ingredients that give consistency to citrus perfumes is cardamom (this ingredient has many facets and manages to be both spiced and fresh, especially in a slightly cooler weather).
After a few wears I think I fell in love with this perfume, but I would wear it more in spring and autumn than in the summer, these ingredients that make it to last longer are “distilled” barely at temperatures below 20°C.
If the price was half way, I would not hesitate to buy it immediately.
    Fragrance 10/10
    Projection Medium
    Longevity 12 h

I am a huge fan of Xerjoff. I own uden, nio and Mefisto.
Mefisto is by far my favorite of the 3.
Is this a good fragrance, yes. Is it worth the trouble to find and buy… if you can afford it… sure. I would recommend to someone on more of a budget to look at hermes orange verte. They are similar in that they give off an expensive orange vibe.

What a phenomenal fragrance. Truly the best blended bergamot and neroli opening I’ve ever experienced. A reviewer below mentioned “gentle dominance” and is absolutely correct. What’s really amazing is that the fresh bergamot actually lasts for a few hours before the warm amber and Jasmine base take over. This is due to the spicy note of cardamom under the bergamot and neroli to support them. For complements, this actually does better with me than aventus. Again like a previous reviewer stated, aventus is phenomenal but is trying hard and demands attention. Nio doesn’t have to try. The price, as with all Xerjoffs, is eye-watering, but may be worth it if you need a great bergamot scent that LASTS.

  29. :

Ok. Just received a sample of Xerjoff Nio. If you blend Ferrari Bright Neroli and Joseph Abboud Black Linen and wait for the dry down it’s pretty close. IMO.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

Nio… rather a ‘neon’ bergamot scent to open. Refreshing, strong bergamot which has surprising tenacity considering that citrus notes tend to dissipate rather quickly.
After about fifteen minutes, some warmth makes way — well blended soft spices and light woods, very smooth with the feeling of small velvety petals floating on aromatic water, almost sauntering into barbershop musk territory but it manages to not fall in even though it dips the occasional toe into the soapy pool. I think the scant soapiness in the base is attributed to the smooth nutmeg, cardamom, and amber.
No obvious floral scent, just the very, very delicate sweetness and softness to balance the bright notes. The soft cedar leaves a bit of a dry trail which offers a good finish.
Clean, refined, alluring. Nio is a wonderfully versatile scent as a fresh, easy dress fragrance for a man or an energetic, uplifting sporty unisex perfume.

Nio is the one, the only true God.

  32. :

    3 out of 5

If Aventus is the king of fragrances, Nio is surely the God. While Aventus shouts “I’m richer than you, I’m more powerful than you, I’m better than you”, Nio doesn’t have to. If Aventus is justified narcissism, Nio is beauty without ego.

  33. :

Was going to blind buy this but lucky I got a sample instead. It seems this fragrance gives a off a placebo effect as a lot of people claim its great…
Unfortunately it smells just like CIF bathroom cleaner. This reminds me of Allure Edition Blanche but a poorer version just more expensive. Glad I didn’t purchase a bottle.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

The first time I sampled Nio, I just simply didn’t get it, and immediately dismissed it as overpriced and redundant. It wasn’t until I smelled the incredible scent trail of an elegant gentleman on a golf course, that I did a complete 360. I immediately walked up to him and asked what it was, and was shocked when he said it was Nio. To get the full effect of this, you can’t smell it directly on your skin by putting your nose to it, you have to smell the sillage as it wafts off you on a hot day, or spray it on someone else!
Nio is peerless in the citrus genre in my opinion. It has a divine bergamot and neroli opening, that incredibly, lasts the whole duration of the fragrance (a consistent 12 hours). The woods and amber turn up in the middle and extend into the drydown. They play an excellent supporting role, never dominating the everlasting citrus/neroli top notes. This is truly exceptional.
I get complimented very often with Nio, and sometimes I get truly amazing reactions. At a barbeque at a friend’s house, this girl got up and started walking round the table, asking each person if they were the source of the smell. She edged her way closer to me, and as the scent got stronger, she thought it was the girl sitting right next to me, and when she also denied having sprayed perfume, the girl asked her what shampoo she uses! I told her it was me, and she waxed lyrical about how good it smelt for a good 10 minutes.

This is it. This is the destination of my fragrance journey. This is the peak, the pinnacle, the zenith. The most fresh, delicate, sophisticated fragrance I’ve ever smelled. If I met an angel, an actual, literal angel, this is what he/she would smell like.

  37. :

Nio is a good quality citrus which has greeny spicy notes right off the top. The basenotes more likely to act as fixatives and atleast not detected to my nose.
This is one of those citruses which projects for 6-8 hours . Fantastic !

It’s a gorgeous citrus green scent. It’s strong without being too loud. It’s sharp and smooth al in the right ways. My first xerjoff I’m hooked.
It’s supposed to be a men’s fragrance but I feel refined and feminine in it.
    Definitely unisex.
    QUALITY worth your buck

Very nice fragrance for summer. Ok, so Im not a bloke but I would happily wear this on a hot day. Its not easy to find a fresh citrus fragrance that really lasts the day. Nio makes a good attempt of achieving this and thats not to be sniffed at. I was a bit concerned about folk commenting about soapiness. Well, thankfully it doesnt do that on me or I would really leave it well alone.
You would be forgiven to imagine this might be quite a harsh citrus because of all of the neroli dominating but no, it is beautifully balanced and there is no sharpness either.
Its wonderfully zingy with all the citrus notes but I think even more a green and fresh fragrance. Ive been trying to detect much vetiver or pink pepper. They are both very low key like the spices. Over time you detect these notes a bit more but not much more than that.
This is first and foremost about citrus and perhaps a tad more green leafy refreshment.
    Good longevity and moderate sillage

  40. :

    Clean, sharp lemon with neroli.
Xerjoff Nio is rather lineair, soapy and natural smelling. Craftmanship and longevity are superb.
However, I’m not in love with it. Just like Creed’s Original Vetiver, it’s a bit too clean for me. It lacks warmth and friendliness and is too sharp. The fragrance is well made but it just isn’t how I would like to smell.

At the first spray, I thought to myself is this a perfume because it smell 100% natural (no synthetic smell at all). what can i describe is that the feel and smells is similar when you peeling mandarin orange with your bare hand.
kinda remind me at New Year Festival when i can get a box of mandarin orange from my manager =P
very good juice and the best citrus note that i ever had.

This makes me think of 4711 cologne, only with way bigger cajones, and waaaaay better lasting power. This has such a lovely fresh, cool feel to it. Zesty, zingy bergamot, tempered by the warmth of the amber, sweetened ever so slightly by the jasmine and with a delicious kick from the cardamom and pink pepper – so, so good. Imagine you’re hiking up a thickly wooded mountain; the trees tower overhead, you can see the sun peeking through the canopy, can feel its warmth, but on the ground, the last lingering bits of the early morning mist swirl around your feet as you walk. The air feels cool and fresh on your hot face as you hike higher and higher, and then you find it – a sparkling pool of crystal clear, ice-cold water, fed from a spring further up the mountain. You scoop up a big handful of water and splash it on your face, enjoying the way it makes your skin tingle, then you eagerly gulp down handful after handful, feeling its coolness all the way down. That’s what this makes me feel like – it’s so deliciously cool and fresh and bracing. Damn this is good. This is destined to remain on my wish list though – the price is a tad scary.

Xerjoff Nio, probably my favorite citrus scent I have ever smelled.
It was one of those fragrances that blew me away at first samaple. I audibly made a “wow” sound.
Let’s start with the opening. Simply the most authentic, brightest bergamote not there is. Authenticity is the key word. I have actually smelled actual fresh bergamote, and this really evokes that very clearly. The best part about this bergamote note here is that it lasts throughout almost the entire duration for me. Stunning. The neroli done here is also exquisite, it is just the bergamote note that takes center stage.
The nutmeg is also a key note for me in this one. It gives it this unique spicy accord, and brings out that earl grey earthy quality of the bergamote note. Such a nice combination, along with the pink pepper give this a real zesty accord.
The performance is also amazing, even more so for a citrus fragrance. This is a citrus where you can over spray, and one that you won’t need to reapply

  45. :

    3 out of 5

It opens with lemon and Neroli. Then it follows by Cardamom and Pink Pepper in the middle note.
I think the scent of lemon, neroli and Cardamom are more dominant in this masterpiece.I recommend it for all seasons. The dry-down is very soft.
I suppose that the projection is good and the longevity is considered moderate.
    It is a masculine.
I recommend it for using on days and nights.
This perfume is my recommendation for those who like soft scent. It really smells awesome.BLIND BUY it.

“Nio” is a photorealistic lemon tree in a bottle. Juicy citrus and sparkling neroli splashed across blades of green grass and torn cedar bark.
The initial sharpness is a bit intense, verging on antiseptic, but within moments things settle into a gentle, leafy greeness tinged with fresh bergamot rind, rooty vetiver and dry, peppery cedar.
Galbanum, though not listed, is prominent and helps give “Nio” its clarity, while the jasmine adds a delicate hint of feminine floralcy.
The effect is bright, clear and natural smelling, the scent of summer carried on a breeze.
It does remind me of “Tokyo Bloom” by The Different Company, only more complex and longer lasting. An elegant and versatile scent for warm weather.

What a rare feat is this. An encapsulated Mediterranean orchard, complete with sunlight – something that I thought would never be possible, seems to have been bottled by Xerjoff. In my holy grail search for a citrus based fragrance that would last longer than my ability to hold my breath underwater, with a projection that would extend beyond my noggin, Neo seems to be that rare thing, a multi-season citrus based gem. Dries down to a beautiful mixture of neroli and woods. You will have to mortgage your soul to purchase this, but you will smell great when you have to go down there!

  49. :

    5 out of 5

Nio is the best citrus based fragrance i have smelled to date. The opening scent is not the greatest or freshest but this one lasts like no other. While it is pricey, you definitely get your money’s worth out of this one. Neroli comes through and settles with a woody base for a bright fresh scent that can withstand the heat of summer. It shines in spring and summer months while other citrus based fragrances would have already faded. The only downfall is the price.

The opening is a familiar neroli/citrus blend, but once I got about 20 minutes into the drydown, this fragrance made me just stare into the distance and whisper “holy. shit.”
The neroli and citrus freshness sticks around, but once it starts to get backed up by the cardamom, patchouli, and woods, this fragrance becomes absolutely unreal. This is the fragrance you wear when you’re overlooking the Sahara Desert at dusk with a beautiful woman by your side who is intoxicated by your scent drifting on the desert wind. Nio has gentle dominance to it that I’ve smelled in very few other perfumes. Fresh and smooth with a bit of warmth, this is one of the most elegant and distinguished perfumes I’ve ever smelled.

Where to begin with Xerjoff’s Nio. It is breathtaking, fresh citrus and so natural smelling. I only have a small decant of 15ml. I wish I had a full bottle but it is so expensive. I don’t ever see me being without this fragrance . I will find splits and individual decants when I can to make sure this stays in my warmer weather rotation. If you haven’t smelled this fragrance you really need to. I believe I paid $50 for my 15ml which is actually a pretty good bargain. I realize how silly that must sound because there are many fragrances in which you can get a full bottle for $50. However, those fragrances aren’t Nio. Nio is exceptional and is priced accordingly.

First of all, I am NOT RICH and I was just a student when I bought it.
But this fragrance is just too fantastic for me.
I remember the first time that I sprayed this on my wrist, and I was totally amazed.Just like some reviews said, the citrus notes in it is sparkling and juicy, with a bit green note on its side, it’s almost an explosion of citrus. As a “citrus maniac” I’ve tested like 80 or more citrusy fragrances, a lot of them cannot even meet the condition of being juicy and refreshing——and some of them have only a few seconds of pleasurable beginning and then they turned into some aromatic mass. Nio doesn’t have these flaws.
Xerjoff Nio, compared to most of the citrusy fragrances I’ve tested, is almost “freezing cold”, it doesn’t have the sweet trait of bergamot, though there’s some neroli in it.BTW I can also smell mint in it(idk why mint is not in the pyramid). You’re gonna need this in a burning-hot summer day, trust me.
And the last thing I want to say is:
    The bottle is incredibly gorgeous.BELLISSIMISSIMO!

    Fresh! Remarkable! Zesty! Enchanting! Sprightly!
Just a few things that come to mind. The embodiment of summer. Like walking down an orchard. Orange, bergamot & a myriad of citrus trees with a hint of that damp vetiver in the air because it rained yesterday. A stroll through the Italian countryside. Or… browsing a fruit stand at a farmer’s market, stopping by to smell and sample a juicy orange. In the background you smell the wood & wood-shavings or hay from the box that was used for packaging.
Versatile since it’s relatively work safe, can be worn in summer or winter (it does remarkably well for a citrus based perfume). Among the best of citrus scents IMHO.

It seemed appropriate to try Nio as my first Xerjoff, as Nio is one of the more hyped warm-weather high-end niche fragrances that repeatedly shows up in reviewers’ top lists, though the hype makes an objective review more difficult with the expectations unavoidably higher, especially given the price ($260 for 50ml, $490 for 100ml).
Two common core top notes, bergamot and neroli, provide for one of the more intense openings I’ve experienced, but as it dries down and the spiciness comes out via the pink pepper and cardamom, I cannot help but detect a synthetic peach vibe. I’m not sure what creates this sweetness, but it probably takes the peachiness from a certain combination of non-peach notes like Hermes’ Un Jardin en Méditerranée. This is, to me, what holds this fragrance from being truly great, and instead is simply good, to my nose, but I would say that this warrants smelling, probably by both men and women.

My first impression of this fragrance is that is smells like cheap detergent. Honestly I was so surprised because I love bergamot, but this does not smell like bergamot 22 or acqua di parma’s bergamotto di calabria. Not very impressed with this fragrance, especially for the price!

Waaaaay overpriced. They should have spent more money on the juice, less on the presentation. If you got money spilling out of you, grab some and buy it.

Too much hype. Bergamont quality summer fresh with other citrus notes. Nice but Eh over rated there are others that can do the job better.

This is a very well done citrus fragrance. The smell is very natural and longevity (even on top notes) is strong. I respect this fragrance, but it just doesn’t wow me. I think this is in part because while well done, it is a fairly straight-forward and singular smell, IMHO.
For those who can’t find a sample but want to know what this smells like, it’s very similar to Bliss’s lemon scented soap to me.
I also have a sample of Uden (same house) and find it more pleasing, especially in the dry down.

I usually don’t write reviews or anything, but for Nio I just have to. Great and amazing fragrances don’t necessarily have to be complex. One way a fragrance can be great is by taking simple ingredients composing it with the utmost quality. Nio is simple, it opens with a blast of green notes along with bergamot. I usually dislike bergamot because it can easily smell like dishwashing liquid/cleaning products (this fact along with Summer heat + sweat makes the typical fragrances of this genre a nightmare). In Nio, the bergamot is photo-realistic, in the same way Orange Sanguine has a natural smelling blood-orange note. After a while you can smell some nice lush neroli. Neroli as Roja Dove says, easily puts a smile on your face. The drydown is very nice and woody. If you could liquefy the sun on a bright spring day, along with the energetic and positive feelings associated with it the result would be Nio. Nio has great projection for a citrus fragrance and is very long lasting as it has 31% perfume content. Add the high quality in with its performance and you can see why Nio is a winner in my book.
    Peace

Opens very natural, smells like bergamot still in shell, stem and leaves, not much citric, but with a slight floral touch and delicate, remains so for a long time.
After an hour the natural scent evolves into a soapy smell creamy , expensive soap by the way, and so he spends most of his time on my skin.
Finally, I smell some spices getting more attention. Middle longevity in me, good aroma, but in my humble opinion, common good, nothing surprising for the price it costs.

Nio is a fragrance you can say, improves our mood and it’s impossible not to like.
A breath of freshness, opens with a natural citrus blast, bergamot with a beautiful green chord reconciled and
