This fragrance should be called gourflorfrurental! Purchased this quite a while ago at TJ Maxx. I bought another one later. I could sniff this all day long! It reminds me of Dali Le Roy Soleil. Floral, fruity, gourmand with oriental overtones. I have put these together with a touch of Angel and a tad of Angel Innocent. No full sprays!…ummm ummm. Unfortunately, on my skin it doesn’t stay as long by itself, so I combine similar fragrance families. I don’t know what the “new” version smells like, I know the reform squad no doubt got this one too! It is a keeper for me!

Carmelized cane sugar + grass, reed stalks (grilled sugar cane stalks?). I’m not found of sweet fragrances but I like its green sweetness.
    (i’ts not “a real gourmand”).
It smells like Angel’s or Nirmala’s base:
    Nilang = Angel – mould.
Nilang = Nirmala – armpit sweat.

I am reviewing the EDP older bottle.
On me, Nilang wears as a sweet fruity floral, with hints of sandalwood and amber.
Imagine overripe mango, pond flowers beginning to brown, and vanilla cookies fresh out of the oven. Nilang is not entirely gourmand; as it develops, an amber base emerges that rounds out the sharpness from the fruit, and sandalwood provides a gentle companion to the dense floral notes.
Nilang is a little different, playful, and uncomplicated. It’s easy to wear, but you’ve got to love those fruit notes. Sillage is close to the body, and scent lasts about 4-5 hours.

I’ve just seen the latest bottles to come out and they’re a real disappointment. The beautiful moulded glass design with the flower on the top has been replaced by a generic-looking rectangular bottle with a plain square cap.
Lalique is first and foremost a famed French glassmaker, and one expects to find its fragrances in beautiful bottles with a point of difference – not generic rubbish. If they can’t even be bothered to create something that reflects their core business and greatest talent, I do wonder if they’ve given up on the fragrance inside the bottles as well.
Has anyone tried the latest version of Nilang, in the rectangular bottle? If so, what did you think of it?

Fragrance Review For Nilang By Lalique
Top notes: Jasmine Freesia Water Lily Narcissus
    Middle notes: Blueberry Lotus
Base notes: Sandalwood Amber Musk Vanilla Praline
Nilang is an exquisite rarity, a class of fragrance of it’s own. It’s not easy to label this one. It’s aquatic, floral, Oriental, and gourmand. When a perfume has that much character, and such a rich composition, I’m all over her. Nilang fires up my imagination especially at the first spritz, the first time you put your nose to the scent as it opens. I visualize a Chinese garden, water lilies and lotus flowers on lily pads on a lake, a red wooden bridge over the lily pond, a pagoda in the distance and everywhere shrubs, groves, and myriads of flowers. This is a Monet painting come to life, Nympheas, his famous water lilies. The floral scents waft into the air out of water: jasmine, freesia, water lily, lotus and narcissus. White flowers on water.
The middle phase of the perfume’s performance is still very floral as it becomes a distinct lotus scent. This is a big water lily/lotus/aquatic jasmine perfume so you have to be a floral fragrance fan in order to appreciate and enjoy this perfume with it’s flowery heart. I was surprised it lacked in fruit but that was a good thing. I’m not always looking for fruit in fragrances. There is a blueberry scent mingled with the white flowers but fortunately it was not blueberry pancake in nature. It was a sweet berry fruit scent, but not at all the big player. The berry scent gives it the femininity, youthfulness, light hearted airiness that I enjoy about Nilang. It’s like a school girl in China who has to walk across a lotus pond to get to the school. It’s the same kind of cheerfulness and freshness of youth I get out of the fragrance called Cherry Blossom by Bath & Body Works.
The fragrance’s final performance is of woods, amber and gourmand scents of vanilla and praline. This is an outstanding feature. I enjoy sandalwood scents and the sandalwood here is pretty though not the star. It’s more of a caramelized amber and vanilla. The vanilla really matches up with the flowers and they turn powdery for a moment. It smells like a delicious vanilla powder but it’s also a rich caramel amber. The praline is delicious. So in the end you have a floral woodsy gourmand vanilla scent sure to delight you.
I really do love this perfume and I’m happy to discover that it’s still selling on Fragrance X Beauty Spin Fragrance.net Ebay and Amazon.com. I recommend it. I’ve been wearing it off and on for years. A beautiful sweet floriental perfume. Finally the bottle. What a charming bottle. I love the flower stopper and the clear glass. It’s one of those attractive dresser table perfumes you can show off. Love Nilang.

I have made some research and i believe the following is correct: (goes for the full size bottles of vintage version)
The white transparent cap and golden ring on the bottle´s neck (not beneath the cap, but on neck of the bottle) goes for EXTRAIT/PURE PARFUM (this is how you detect a miniature for pure parfum as well)
The pink cap goes for 30ml EDT
The turqouise cap goes for 50ml EDT
The light/pale yellow cap goes for 100ml EDT
The dark yellow cap goes for the 50ml EDP
The lilac cap goes for 100ml EDP
The dark green cap is for the other version of Nilang – “Claire de Nilang”
Hope that helps and makes sense 🙂

The initial aquatic floral entrance of water lily, lotus and narcissus of Lalique Nilang gives out a sweet watermelon vibe. Soon praline joins in. There is also a slight red berry nuance. This delicate balance between aquatic, floral and ambery praline in Nilang actually smells to me like a concotion halfway between Eau de Star and Angel Lys, without the earthy, raw patchouli. Would someone be inspired to make an Angel Lotus? lol.
The sillage is soft on me but it’s persistent, almost 11 hours for the longevity. The combination of gourmand and aquatic floral notes in Nilang is intriguing, as so in Eau de Star and Angel Lys. I’d recommend it to those who enjoyed those summer editions or Garden edtions of Angel, though nowadays it doesn’t seem easy to find it. I tried the new Nilang in the rectangular bottle in a Lalique boutique. Although the SA claimed that the fragrance remained the same, from what I remember, the new one seems to have less chocolate aspect. However, if you ever come cross one in the narcissus bottle, it still worths trying.

Nilang is quite unique as noted, but not altogether comfortable for wearing because it’s odd. On a whim I decided to wear it on an uncomfortably hot day. I found that in the hottest weather the perfume comes into it’s own. It really suits heat, real heat. So now I can upgrade to love, because it’s a pleasure to apply on those days when the cold water runs hot and shorts and tanks are all I can bear to wear out. The bottle is stunning and worth owning just to admire on your dresser.

I dug up old version Nilang in these Christmas days. It brings back strange memories: the taste of blueberries of a cough syrup which the pediatrician -an old, perfectly shaved and perfumed gentleman- used to prescribe to me. It was extremely sweet and alcoholic, and I adored it, to the point that as a child I wished I had a fever to be allowed to drink it.
The opening of Nilang is quite similar to this comfort balm. Then comes an incredible tenderness: as a walk through the “Asian plants” in the botanical garden. Water flowing in the background, water lilies full of nectar that hatch at dawn with the first rays of the sun.
The pink magnolia gives the fragrance a sensual and earthly aroma: that of sweat on the first cleavage tan.I’d like to kiss anyone who would bring this fragrance on bare skin, in a spring morning. But winter is long, and spring is late to arrive.

I agree with Allexa27: looks a lot like Angel Peony

The top notes reminds me of Miracle Forever. Evolves sweet and dense, and becomes similar to Angel Innocent, and this stage is that it stays longer. The base, however, resembles the base of Angel TM.

I think pink top is EDT, and green is EDP.

Does anyone know the difference between the bottle with a green/blue cap, and with a red cap that I have?
The first spritz may be nauseating, there is just too much at once getting on my skin, covering it with sweet and sticky fruit juice. Then the scent settles down nicely and mildly, revealing pralines and vanilla. Tonight I am giving it a try, and hope nobody will eat me 🙂 However, it is not my type of perfume there is nothing uplifting or inspiring there.

Ughh this is the only fragrance that makes me gag. I bought it only beacuse of its bottle. But it is a mixture of herbs, marinery scent and spices which makes it disgusting. I can tolerance heavy scents like Shalimar (and which I love) but this is more than heavy it is disgusting and La Prairie Silver Rain is its sister which smells very much alike but softer still makes me gag.

Lalique NILANG is definitely unique: an oriental floral perfume with an aquatic facet. This is odd enough that it could have been put out by a niche house, but instead it was Lalique. The fact that it’s still around 16 years after its launch despite the complete absence of marketing–I for one have never seen any!–places NILANG in a special category of perfumes: the few, the proud, the survivors!
I like NILANG with its lotus, water lily and blueberry mingling with sandalwood, vanilla, and caramel, and I do not find it overly sweet–certainly not when compared to the sugar sprays available everywhere today. NILANG is rather strange but likeable and worth a sniff to anyone who appreciates oriental perfumes, and also those who do not, as this creation has a playfulness and levity which may appeal to them as well.

Interesting…This fragrance has a warmth (on me) much like Flowerbomb…I’m always amazed at how each and every one of us has such a different chemical reaction to fragrances…What smells like hell on one person smells like heaven on another…

It’s a pity Nilang is so hard to find – I bet it would easily become a fave for most floral-orientals lovers. It is a well-rounded fragrance, smooth and creamy, with a definite lotus note. IMO it is suitable for spring and autumn kind of weather. Great lasting power, too.

Fruit and something expensive. This somehow blends completely and smoothly into an overall scent that is elegant and fruity at the same time, something I’ve rarely come across. There’s a note like face powder in there somewhere that gives it that ‘made-up’ look I love in perfumes. Coherent, well-structured and complex. Lovely.

Nilang is a unique aquatic floral oriental scent with a sensual and gourmand edge. After a sweet, floral – aquatic start it develops a fresh, slightly bittery floral heart with a sweet, praline edge. I cannot distinguish any particular notes apart from a zesty and bittersweet cranberry – roasted nut accord. Nilang is then rounded up by a balanced, gourmand, sexy and sweet base which is not typically oriental but a warm, homely blend with a rich, sexy kick to it.
I dare say Nilang has been one of my most interesting discoveries as I have not yet found a fragrance that is even remotely similar to it. An eau de toilette with a strength and staying power of an eau de parfum, amongst connaisseurs it is still very popular and there are times when it’s practically unavailable online.
Nilang is extremely innovative in terms of blending together different olfactory groups and managing to make it unique, beautiful and irresistable. Either to add to your collection or to wear it, Nilang is a rare gem, that should never be forgotten.
