Loved this perfume and now it seems the company is gone. So sad I would have loved to buy more

NJ born and raised, down the shore every summer, I was excited to track down a bottle and experience the notes described. Then I received it. The patchouli chokes you out like you stepped into a head shop. You know those vanilla car scents you hang from the rear view mirror? That’s the vanilla. The only caramel found is the color, which is more reminiscent of burnt popcorn than anything edible. Passing it off as a fluke (and sending it back to the North Jersey distributor I ordered it from).

I am not a gal who wants my fragrances to tell me stories. I appreciate a scent that is very straightforward, and New Jersey is exactly what you would expect based on its list of notes. There is no morphing, there are no real changes (beyond what is expected, of course) as the day goes on, and while that may be a negative for some, it is a positive for me. I appreciate this scent and will have to order another bottle soon as mine is getting dangerously low.
Caramel popcorn, sweet cotton candy musk as I stated in an earlier review. I really do adore this.

Blind Buy from TJ Marshalls for 9.99. I understand the sentiment. I understand the “hey- let’s open our own NICHE perfumery!” motivation. I understand the concept. Sorry to say this was just TOO synthetic to have fun with.
Sure I get caramel corn and cotton candy– but there was no real destiny here. There is an expensive high end equivalent to this at Saphora in the mall — I think it’s called “At the Fair” ..”At the Fun Fair” ? Something like that.
This is going into my frag “graveyard”.
Sorry to the inventors if you are reading this. I really really love fun scents like this one but this evokes……..nothing.
Longevity is poor due to the high alcohol content.

TOTAL CARNIVAL SCENT!
first spray is yum yum buttered popcorn, caramel corn, cotton candy, sweet. I’m not real keen on the patchouli, but it’s very subtle. There is a soapy something in it that comes out as bout 20 min into wearing and gets stronger as it wears. I’ll have to see of it gets stronger and if I can tolerate the soapy and patch base.
soapy musk. yep…that’s what is going on here. and it is fairly STRONG too. it’s almost killing this scent for me.
I am going to stick w/ Shay & Blue London Salt Caramel.

Ugh. I was so excited about the caramelly-popcornness of this one…I almost blind bought a full bottle of it!
Luckily I went with just the sample set from their website instead, as this one is just TOO MUCH.
I need to learn that the cotton candy note is always just so overpowering on my skin.
Ok, so what I can get from this (or what I got before I scrubbed most of it off)….I get the peach right away, even though it’s a base note…then it’s tons of cotton candy, overpowering everything. It radiates sweet. There might be some caramel in there, but no salty popcorn note on me at all. Nothing savory. I didn’t give it enough time to give me coconut either, but I got whiffs of musk now and again.
This is my fault, I know cotton candy and I don’t ever agree with each other, and I’m ashamed that I caved at the patch/popcorn/caramel notes without reading the full note pyramid.
If you love TOOTHACHINGLY sweet fragrances, this one is so for you!

I have never been to New Jersey, so I have no idea what scent it’s supposed to be associated with, but this is straight up caramel popcorn. Very obvious & very sweet.
This is a really fun scent, and it does make you feel like you’re at a carnival, but you probably need to love gourmands to enjoy it.

Walking through the fair grounds on a cold, damp day.
Immediately upon spray I smell caramel corn flooding my senses and a spike of freshly spun sugar. A fleecy warm coconut pressing softly against the loud blare of festive smells. Setting the tone, New Jersey never really loses it’s circus fair flair.
The buttery popcorn note in here reminds me of popcorn jelly belly jelly beans. Sweet and artificial, like cheap sweet popcorn.
By the time we get to the dry down it is almost in the same neighborhood as miss dior cherie 2005, only way less fruity. You get a prickle of peach that is gummied. Vanilla musk and patchouli lay a little love into the strong foody notes making this perfume smell more like something people think you meant to put on.
This is a food fragrance that is NOT for the weak hearted. It’s probably 70% caramel popcorn and 30% other notes. New Jersey is bold, loud, and unusual. With new jersey prepare to make a statement. Enjoy your ticket to the carnival for one on a damp and dreary day.

That’s funny…
I’ve scoured the United Scents of America website — none to be had…And the same goes for the info given above regarding sites where this can be purchased — Nil, Nada, Zilch…
This item is indeed getting hard to find!
Anyway, I snagged a bottle online when it was cheap onceuponatime, and the opening notes were enough to keep me interested until the drydown turned the corner and it was just like any other amber-y drydown…

if anyone is looking for this, I suggest this site
shopunitedscents dot com its sold as either a candle or perfume
I just got this in the mail today, I like this alot! it satisfies my sweet cravings 😀 with out the guilt! I get a soft and mellow burst of sweet and buttery caramel popcorn, after a few minutes the drydown begins to smell like a cozy cotton candy somewhat similar to Pink sugar! this is a funfair in a bottle! this scent makes me feel like a kid again :’)
valerait – :
This is a very nice cologne that has the smell of deer musk, lilac, buttered popcorn, and all of the other things you have in Wabamun. I like it.
qqw – :
So funny, there is a perfume for each state:-) Are perfumes for different town of NJ coming too? Cant imagine how Newark or Paterson will smell like:-)
kat8529 – :
I just received a full bottle of this in the mail and I am thrilled with it. The opening is a blast of caramel popcorn, very true to the real thing, supported by cotton candy and vanilla. I can’t pick out much coconut or peach, and ZERO patchouli, but I don’t doubt they’re there, just working in the background. Before long, New Jersey settles down to a sweet cotton candy musk, not at all synthetic or cheap smelling, with a whisper of caramel popcorn lingering on the periphery.
For me, this is one of those can’t-stop-sniffing-it perfumes. When I wear it, I find myself sniffing my wrists constantly. Unfortunately the sillage and staying power are not what I’d like them to be; it’s very close to my skin by the 3rd hour and almost completely gone by the 4th. Still, I don’t regret this purchase. New Jersey is a gem for gourmand lovers.
Koryun13 – :
I often enjoy a detour from my usual favorite orientals, aldehydes, leathers and floral woody musks and that detour usually takes me straight to Candyland. While in Candyland I revel in the sugars, caramels, chocolates, sweet vanillas and syrups of Hard Candy, Pulse, Believe, Blue Sugar, Chocolovers, and Casmir. So the notes for New Jersey suggested it would be a safe blind buy for me. Wrong!
Thanks to a generous frangrantican I was able to sample New Jersey and was saddened to discover a totally off-putting note equivalent to the taste of the yellow-speckled white Jelly Belly jellybeans flavored to resemble buttered popcorn. That terrible burned margarine flavor cured me of eating assorted jellybeans in a dark movie theatre forever! One bite would find me reaching for a tissue (I’m too polite to spit on a movie theatre floor).
New Jersey’s caramel is creamy-smooth, its cotton candy is strawberry-sweet and its vanilla as delightful as a cone of vanilla custard on a sunny, hot day. I’d have happily ordered it at full retail price were it not for that popcorn note.
All this said, I find all the best of what the listed notes lead me to expect in New Jersey in Casmir. Equally as sweet as New Jersey, Casmir just does it better.
As for New Jersey itself, Brigantine is my favorite spot in the world, truly! May her glorious beaches be soon restored to their pristine beauty.

We’re the garden state not the carnival state!

This does have a yummy, sweet gourmand fragrance. It smells of caramel corn, vanilla and cotton candy, with a trace of vanilla.
MiraldinaKas – :
New Jersey is a unique gourmand. The popcorn note is very prominent in the beginning. It’s a true, yummy and salty popcorn note. Miss Dior Cherie is my all time favorite and that fragrance supposedly has caramel popcorn in it. I’ve never been able to smell anything but a refined, buttery undertone in Cherie. New Jersey’s popcorn note however, is unmistakable. Next I get caramel, cotton candy and very soft coconut. The coconut is perfect. It’s not in-your-face at all but rather hangs to back and builds on the sweet caramel. The best and most surprising thing is the patchouli. I’m not a huge patchouli lover but I wear a lot of perfumes with patchouli notes. A soft and earthy patchouli seems to really have a knack for bringing over-the-top sweetness back down to earth. The patchouli in New Jersey is very clean; you might not even notice it but it gives the base a deep and wonderful edge. Without it, New Jersey would just be another sickeningly sweet sugar bomb. I think I’m seeing a combination that I love in quite a few fragrances – patchouli and caramel. Yum. The peach and vanilla are ever so faint but they round the scent out nicely.
This fragrance starts out smelling like a carnival or a day at the state fair. As the notes settle in to each other, what you are left with is a very pretty and original gourmand. New Jersey is a summer day on a boardwalk, sunshine, fun and carefree youth. I will definitely be wearing this to the beach this summer!
UPDATE: I am officially hooked! New Jersey is just gorgeous. I’ve been wearing it for the last week and I adore this stuff. The longevity is excellent and the fragrance moves beautifully through every note, ending in an addictive vanilla musk that I can’t pull my nose away from. Love!

Thank you to United Scents of America for providing me a sample.
Every time I think I’m over gourmand scents, I come across a new one that intrigues me.
New Jersey’s notes looked like the kind of fragrance I enjoyed in my late 20s and early 30s but that I would pass over in my 40s. Upon first sniff, I was pleasantly surprised by this interesting scent.
I remember a lot of fuss over the older version of Miss Dior Cherie’s supposed popcorn notes (which to me smelled more like burnt toast.) New Jersey has a TRUE caramel popcorn aroma that is neither too salty nor too sweet. In fact, it reminds me of Serge Lutens’ Jeux de Peau. (Yes! You read that right!) Don’t be afraid of the sweetness here. It’s dosed with a careful hand, and the fragrance is very wearable and enjoyable, with good longevity (about 6 hours) and sillage.

Just got this in the mail today. My daughter and her friend said it smelled like caramel popcorn, and then exclaimed “YUM!” I love sweet fragrances, and this is the most candyish scent I own. One moment it reminds me of Christmas, then it reminds me of the Asbury Park Boardwalk (NJ Shore) of my youth…the popcorn, caramel apples, cotton candy, suntan lotion…to quote my daughter and her friend…”YUM!”
Arthurik – :
I am wearing this right now and it is fabulous! The popcorn smell is the most prominent on the top with caramel and cotton candy up there as well, but I can smell something is coming next!
I didn’t grow up in Jersey, visited the shore once. Just love perfume and am so excited to be trying one that has popcorn as a note! It does not disappoint. It feels fun and sunny.
I very much appreciate that while patchouli is listed, it is very subtle! Thanks for that. The musk, vanilla and peach come through and if it were not listed, I would not believe patchouli to be in it, which for me is a very positive thing! The popcorn sticks around a tiny bit on the dry down, but most of the dry down is carmel and vanilla and musk.
If you like Prada Candy, this will blow you away. It is better lasting and much more interesting.
I can’t wait to try the next one in their series. This one is going on my list to buy!
frenel – :
Wasn’t it for the dreadful patchouli, I would be tempted to order a sample of this sweet treat in order to know if it could please my really truly sweet tooth !! ^^
P.s. : I don’t see anything like oil in this fragrance !! 😀
toliandonz – :
Reminds me of movie Miss Congeniality:
Q: Why is New Jersey called the ‘Garden State’?
A: You can’t fit “Oil and petrochemical refinery state” on a license plate?
I was born and raised in Jersey (please don’t ask ‘what exit’), and popcorn, coconut, vanilla and cotton candy aren’t the smells I associate with a drive “down the shore”. Passing the acrid smell of the landfill? That’s a bit more like it. 🙂
