Roja Parfums Neroli Extrait is another solid entry in the now-discontinued Extrait line (I’ve recently tried Bergamot, Amber, and Vetiver, as well), and it does a good job presenting the signature note, including bergamot, orange blossom, and musk. The opening is very bright and the fragrance is overall very smooth, a floral expression of the neroli emphasis otherwise done to exhaustion in other instances, not limited to, but most notably including Muehlens 4711, Mugler Cologne, and Tom Ford Neroli Portofino.
I’m not sure I detect a strong link to Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza, as Essenza embodies more of the traditional cologne smell and Neroli Extrait is more of a purely neroli-intensive smell along the lines of Mugler Cologne and Tom Ford Neroli Portofino.
Overall, I’m better able to enjoy neroli via Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte that has neroli mixed in with heavier notes than Neroli Extrait, which mixes the neroli with other comparatively light notes. Still, Neroli Extrait is very agreeable and it’s easy to see why it’s so lovable. The only main letdown is in the performance, for which it is low on projection and mild on longevity, and one might expect more of an extrait, particularly at the Roja Dove price.
If you love neroli, this merits trying, as this could be your favorite neroli fragrance.

One of the most interesting parts of Roja’s art is how he mixes ingredients to obtain something that is completely different from expectations but still instantly recognizable. Neroli is no exception. To my nose, this is heavily infused with Jasmine with the stronger Neroli overtones phasing out rather quickly after initial application. The result is not so much an extrait but more of a soft intermingling of jasmine and the quickly dissipating Neroli. Finely crafted by any measure, this should be on the “to try” list of any one looking for a Neroli based fragrance. As fine as this is (and I own a FB), Atelier Grand Neroli and Creed Neroli Sauvage present equally (if not more) compelling offerings at a much more reasonable price. Had I tried those first, then this review might not ever have existed.

UPDATE: @shorokh: I just officially obtained my 50ml of Roja Dove’s Bergamot Extrait and I also got two 4ml samples of the Neroli Extrait…. Hmmmmmmm……, thinking…. Oh man, I can hardly speak. Thus guy is impeccable…. Simply spectacular… Honestly speaking, he did come across as a bit pompous when he said: “No one can touch us in the use of quality raw materials”! Now having tried 5/6 products in his line, I gave no objections whatsoever, I can in no way contest those words……….
The Bergamot for me, is his finest creation and aptly put when he described it as: “……. , as sparkling as sunlight dancing on the sea in Amalfi”…… The Chypres: Musk Aoud, Amber Aoud and Diaghilev are far more complex and have tremendous depth. Diaghilev, for example, is splendidly unpredictable in its almost “Houdhini-like diffusiveness”…… I’d better leave those to the experts. I will say this though….., having tried at least 10 fantastic niche/designer neroli based frags…., I’d have to go on the record RIGHT NOW as saying: “LE LABO’S NEROLI 36 IS SUPERIOR TO THIS NEROLI ETRAIT OF ROJA DOVE”! Please feel free to do the side-by-side/head-to-head competition and see who’s the last one standing…. My money us on Le Labo…..

@Shorokh: I’m a proud owner of Neroli Portofino……., 3 bottles in fact…… I was reading intently as I pondered your review. It is fantastic and it gives us the readers and potential buyers a GREAT GREAT feel for what it smells like… I really LOVE the NP by Tom Ford and my ONLY beef is that it fades rather quickly….. Then again, what should I really expect from a frag with that note makeup?!?! Petit grain, Bergamot, Neroli…..
I recently ordered 4 samples of Roja Dove Frags(Bergamot Extrait, Vetiver Extrait, Diaghilev & Neroli Extrait)… Based on reading your review, mom pretty sure which one I’m gonna buy now….
Ty Ty and Ty again for your insight and information…….

Strong, sharp and rich floral (neroli) in the opening which mellows out and softens as time goes on. Styrax is a bit intense upon initial application but this fades rather quickly. Quality is unmatched. A beautiful unisex (but slightly leaning toward feminine) fragrance to have in your collection for warmer months. Many people make the reference of Tom Ford Neroli Portofino and I agree except this fragrance is far superior in performance and quality. It is a bit pricy but well worth the money in my opinion as it would outlast a 100ml bottle of Tom Ford N.P…..

Very beautifully attractive and feminine perfume. A classic attractive beautiful female I might say, that’s what neroli roja dove is. Bellissimo!

Yeah! I’ve successfully made a fragrance (@35.5% fragrance concentration) about 90% as good as Roja Dove Neroli Extrait with essential oils, real Ambergris and animal musk. My concoction is really beautiful but can last for only 6 hours and at an outrageously high cost of US$130 for the 12ml I made.
I’m really proud that I can come up with such formula; however, after doing some simple calculation, I would say why bother to pay 129% to get only 90% of this absolutely gorgeous ROJA DOVE NEROLI EXTRAIT in a beautiful bottle for only around US$420/50ml. This fragrance really shows off how gorgeous the scent of Neroli can be and so far there is none others that could even come close to it from my experience. If high quality fragrances with prominent Neroli note are your cup of tea, this fragrance is definitely the best and a must try.

Wow. I was looking for a white floral scent and came across Roja Dove corner, which is quite new here.
It`s the best neroli based fragrance I ever tried in my life. Definitely outstanding.
It is so well blended that you can hardly detect the notes, you know, it`s His Majesty Neroli speaking outloud. Yes you can feel that there are nuances, but… the pleasure to whiff this is so great that… I stopped caring about the notes whatsoever. For the first time of my life.
A masterpiece. Definitely. I can`t wait `til a friend of mine arrives from London and brings my Neroli to me.
My dream now is to visit M Roja Dove and to have a personal consultation about perfumes with him – yes, it`s possible!
Happiness. I`m happy. Totally happy. Violently happy. I love it!
