Neroli Portofino always takes me back to the great memories, It was my signature scent when I was living my best time of my life so far, when I sniff it I remember every single day of my best days ever, I’m going to buy a 250 ml soon and hope to live my great life again with a new passion.

Neroli Portofino is a classic. Of course many will consider it overpriced because of the similarity with 4711 Cologne, whilst others would swear by it and not change it for any other cologne. Because let’s be real, Neroli Portofino, despite being edp is a cologne type of fragrance, which many other brands such as Givenchy, Chanel, Rochas, Guerlain etc have in their arsenal either in edc or edt, also quite highly priced.
Herbal and botanical and with a pronounced lemon note and a white floral undercurrent. The floral sweetness of neroli is very well present with its steam-like effect, like a shot of hot ironing. Dry, unisex, natural smelling and quiet, calming. Pairs well with any style really, but seems more appropriate for day-wear, could work as a formal or casual and for all ages. Spring and summer are the seasons for it
People seem to confuse lasting power with sillage; and when they stop smelling a perfume from some sort of distance they consider valid, they deem that the perfume’s lasting power is also little to no existent. Which is not always the case. Neroli Portofino does sit close to the skin after the first hour, and stays put for at least five hours, which is more than enough for a cologney scent

Wanna save money and get a fragrance that smells and last longer than Neroli Portofino? Alexandria Port by Alexandria Fragrances is your resolution! I smelled neroli Portofino and did not want to pay the high price. Bought Alexandria Port instead, and I am very very happy that I saved paying hundreds!

I am just here to tell you to scroll down and read Raidthesaladbar’s review. Great description of two of the more popular perfumes these days.

Very nice fragrance, with that characteristic Tom Ford power, if you know what i mean. But, it is not very original. Sure, one can smell the difference in quality between Neroli Portfino and similar perfumes out there, but we are not getting anything new.
Because of this, i don’t have much to say. Buy it if you love strong and natural smelling neroli and orange blossom and if you have the money, but do not expect anything surprising.

The fellow below who wrote that this fragrance and Kölnischwasser (4711) are basically the same fragrance is confused, for multiple reasons. The most obvious reason is that, despite similar notes, the formulae are obviously very different and the two compositions smell very different as well.
Neroli Portofino is laden densely with citrus extenders and fixatives that 4711 has none of, so NP smells quite strong, in a chemical way, whereas bergamot and neroli are perfectly harmonised in 4711, imparting an innate smoothness that doesn’t exist in the sharply terpenic Neroli Portofino.
NP does wear like a cologne–it has the poor tenacity of a cologne and the seeming simplicity of one as well. But I would not say these fragrances are twins, more that they are in the same family.
I’m shocked that Rodrigo did this fragrance, as normally I like his work quite a bit; but I am certain he was following the Estée Lauder brief and doing his best within those constraints.
For me, this fragrance is a dud, sadly. Nothing to be done.

Ok, serious question: Why does anyone buy this? I’m not saying it’s bad – it’s an upscale version of the classic Kölnischwasser (now 4711 Original Eau de Cologne). But therein lies the problem: You could get virtually the same fragrance for less than one tenth of the price.
I’m usually the first one to shake my head at those poor misguided souls who discuss fragrance like they’re talking about car insurance (“value for money”) – but 300€ for what is blatantly a 10€ perfume? If my clumsy cockerspaniel, intrigued by the smell of citrus and the clicketyclack of my hipster typewriter, jumped onto my desk right now and knocked the two unlabelled blotters off, he’d be the only one who could reliably tell them apart any longer.
And yet there’s a bewildering number of correspondents in here singing Neroli’s praises over the good old 4711. I can offer three theories:
    (1) They all have both the same penchant for classic colognes and the keen canine sense of smell as Sniffles.
    (2) Those groups of rich middle-eastern tourists I always see blowing thousands of euros on fragrance in the TF boutique spend their time between lavish European city vacations writing Fragrantica reviews (it would certainly explain some of the spelling and grammar around here).
    (3) There are people who splurged on Nerolino Portofino, learned afterwards about the cheaper original, and are now trying to rationalise away their expensive mispurchase.
(Hey, if you’re in category 3, I feel ya – I went through two full bottles of Sauvage while I was renovating before I learned about Raid Max)

Pretty nice, but every freshie from TF lasts 3-4 hours on me. I’d rather buy Dior Homme Sport or Cologne for half the price and double longevity.

I wrote a review of Neroli Portofino earlier. One of my favorite scents of all time is 4711, so I did a comparison between 4711 and NP. You can read it below, but the differences are slight. The most important thing is Ford’s creation is creamier, more Amber-and lasts longer. I bought 4711 soap, shower gel and a huge bottle of the cologne which I decanted into spray bottles to try to get myself to smell like this all day, but could not get the scent to last long. Even the old trick of soaking a cotton ball with your scent and hiding it in the bra doesn’t work. I always smelled clean and good, but not like juicy orange blossoms.
I’m going to Hawaii, and athough I intend to stock up on a plumeria fragrance you can only get in Maui, I wanted to smell like 4711/Neroli Portofino on my trip. So I broke down and bought Tom Ford’s $55.00 atomizer from Nordstrom.
I put it on at Nordstrom and once again, it’s lovely and has lasted all the rest of the day on me. I can smell it now, in bed. Neroli Portofino is not an exact replica of 4711, as I said if my review, but it’s close enough. So again, I’ll shower gel, splash with 4711, then use my atomizer of NP and I should get the fragrance I want all day as I sit under the Hawaiian sun.
It’s sad to be addicted to something so expensive. If I was a one or two fragrance girl, I could justify the price. But I have over a hundred bottles so adding a $300/600 frag is just impossible as I know I won’t stop trying new ones. My little atomizer will be a treat. Just an idea for you Neroli Portofino lovers out there.

I can’t believe this is not a more popular fragrance given the success of neroli portofino and also Jasmin Rouge. It’s like a combination of the two where the sharpness of the neroli is cushioned by the soothing embrace of the Jasmine’s white floral tea notes. In neroli portofino forte I find that it has a horrible artificial citrus smell, and fades down to a skin scent in a couple of hours. I think this has better performance although is not incredible but with NPF I feel I have to wait for the citrus to subside before I get the pure neroli scent and then it’s gone. A small window of opportunity to enjoy it. With this I instantly smell the neroli and the soft jasmine and the two work better than other neroli frags I’ve tried although I love adps essenza di colonia but with nb the neroli takes centre stage. I’ve started wearing it before going to bed as for me the combination of neroli with the tea like notes of the jasmine is incredibly calming.

This fragrance was a love at first sniff for me. I’m a sucker for Neroli and Orange Blossom so I just can’t help myself. It’s definitely a happy, charming white floral fragrance. It’s also calming due to the lavender and amber. It’s one of the most natural fragrances (sometimes we have the strangest experiences… plastic? couldn’t be further from the truth to my nose, but we all smell differently). The natural nature of this perfume is of the same vein as Acqua di Parma Colonia. There is the beautiful citrus note that blends so well with the neroli and orange blossom. It’s not a loud fragrance. There is the slight herbal note of soothing lavender and uplifting rosemary along with angelica with the quiet sensual amber grounding all of it. The balance of this fragrance is perfect. It’s gentle and ethereal enveloping the skin and the air around you in a cloud of sweet citrus, joyful neroli, soft sweet sensual whispers of amber, relaxing lavender and rosemary… It’s like lying down on the softest puffy mattress after the most perfect summer day spent with someone you’re in love with. Almost like the euphoria you feel after a perfect workout and in the shower, when you’re alive, elated, but relaxed. I’ve been to Portofino Italy and this fragrance captures the mediterranean gorgeousness of that place. It is refreshing, happy, chic, but as many have noted all too brief. Tom Ford is an extremely tasteful human being. I can picture him there in Portofino lounging on a yacht, looking effortlessly stylish, handsome, and smelling this classy. Portofino is a place that you wake up at 10am, have a beautiful brunch by the sea, dress sexy, refined, but also casual, never hurry, and maybe take a cruise on a boat. I spent my honeymoon in Portofino surrounded by the glittering deep azure blue/green sea. This fragrance conjures up the pure bliss of the blossoming orange trees and natural heaven of the sea and culture that I found in Italy. This fragrance captures that relaxed beautiful attitude of truly enjoying life. It is effortlessly luxurious and classy. It’s truly a gentle and joyful fragrance. I only wish it would last longer or this would be my signature scent.

That’s my grandmother’s perfume & I still buy it for her at a german’s specialty shop. Maybe I can convince her to split a bottle of Tom Ford with me 😉

Citrus, a watery rubber plastic smell, white floral, maybe some wood. This reminds me of a summer day by the pool; fresh and clean. Strangely, I get a bleachy, comet bathroom cleaner vibe. The citrus is more prominent in the opening. During the dry down it’s all watery plastic wood with white floral. While it has different notes NP reminds me of Kenzo Pour Homme in many ways.
Unisex, projection and sillage feel soft from the start but It hung around for a nice eight hours. Maybe its in my head but it felt stronger during the dry down. Not sexy and good for work. A hot weather scent all the way. Composition is nice and interesting. I like the rubbery wet citrus, floral. I see the pool toys baking in the sun as you splash around in the water; sun block, chlorine. Should perform a little better for the price. Bottle looks cool and fits the concept well. Not outstanding but there are definitely worse TF scents out there.

Okay, you guys are being a little bit extra with the “exactly like 4711” stuff. Yes, there is a big similarity, but do not forget that 4711 disappears in a few minutes and is pretty cold and bitter and herbaceous, whereas NP lasts at least 5 hours on me and has a thick, warm, creamy mandarin-amber note that 4711 does not have.
I’d compare this to typical generic Turkish lemon cologne “Kolonya” before I’d go with 4711 because at least Turkish cologne isn’t bitter.
Anyway, I made a huge mistake of layering this over Dior Addict that was almost done with its dry-down after 5-6 hours with only a faint boozy vanilla remaining, so I figured “what’s the harm?” and the harm is that it turns out mixing this with vanilla becomes a rather cloying tobacco-like experience oddly reminiscent of Tobacco Vanille (Which I’m one of the rare few who hates that perfume, again the tobacco is too cloying for me) so actually since a lot of people like Tobacco Vanille, how about this?:
If you regret your Neroli Portofino purchase, try layering it with whatever feminine spicy vanilla scent you have lying around and see if you can’t create something completely different out of it? (but have the soap and washcloth ready, it could turn out to be a disaster!)

I teach kids and they all asked me: “Why does it smell like oranges in here?” Nuff said…at this price? Seriously? Eat oranges.

I’ll make this short: it’s the exact scent of 4711 Eau de Cologne with better longevity. The scent itself is mesmerizing and spectacular (as is the scent of 4711, upon which this is based). But the longevity is only moderate at around 4-5 hours – which is an improvement to 4711 as that only lasts 2 hours if you’re lucky, but it’s nothing groundbreaking. And it’s way overpriced. If you have the cash, then by all means get Neroli Portofino Forte for something better that lasts even longer. But if you don’t want to pay that much, Bond No. 9’s Eau de New York is just superior to this in every way and for less money. And the best cheap alternative to Neroli Portofino is Ferrari’s Bright Neroli. But if you want something more ‘green’, then go for Mugler Cologne.
However if you really just want the Neroli Portofino scent to last on you for 8 hours and don’t want to keep spritzing 4711 Eau de Cologne in a travel atomizer, then listen to my advice and get the perfume oil version of this for $6 from the Kuwaiti perfume oil company “Universal Perfume Oils and Cosmetics” (Google it). It’s exactly the same as Neroli Portofino but with better projection and 8 hours longevity. And a 3 ml bottle of the oil should last you ages. You now have knowledge of the best kept secret in perfume buying.

From complete Neroli portofino collection, this one is the nicest in my opinion. It is very specific frag. and it reminds me on Delial German sun lotion from 80’s. This is realy Mediteranean smell, I think more for the ladies then for the man, but very nice, natural and moderate. It is different category from ussual perfumes so is the price. A good one.

The ever-polarising Tom Ford and Rodrigo Flores-Roux present us here, with Clinique Happy’s older, bolder, sultrier sister; the sister that causes commotion at family gatherings and just doesn’t care.True, this opens with a blast of fancy-hotel-soap, and throws us back to the cologne-dripping lotharios of the ’80’s, but in dry-down is where this frag shines. The gorgeous blending of the citrus and floral notes is so perfectly done; as it warms on your skin, Neroli Portofino simply sings. To me, it takes me back to the beaches of the Med in summer, to spritzing this beauty on recently wet skin, while watching the sun go down.
    Utter bliss.
PS If this frag is outside your price point, its dupe is YSL Saharienne. I’ve got both, and they’re VERY similar.

    Neroli Portofino: The Inconvenient Truth:
The note pyramid listed is surely wrong, because for me at least, this has two primary ingredients, so skilfully blended I can’t pick them apart: Love and Hate. In a beautiful turquoise bottle.
HATE: the grotesque price. The sometimes pathetic longevity. The hype. The way that on the wrong days it can just randomly turn to straight citrus cleanser on me. How disturbingly like an ordinary cologne or a plain ol’ lemon soap it can seem now and then.
    But but but….
LOVE: how it becomes something so drop-dead gorgeous on really hot days. Its unique sweet warmth underneath the sparkling freshness. How it makes me feel cool (in every sense), calm and competent. The way it can bloom into the essence of the most expensive Mediterranean luxury holiday I’ve (n)ever had. The fact that the first instant I ever smelled it I fell in love, and my nose told me -ordered me!- to work and save so I could seek it out, years and years before I knew anything at all about perfume, aeons before going full fraghead.
I read so much here about 4711 I sought that out, but it really is not in the same league, even if you divide by 20 to account for the price. Now THAT, even though hugely refreshing, really is a sharp cleaning product that’s gone in minutes. To me it’s 4711 that is a pale shadow of TF NP, not the other way around.
I will probably migrate over to Monegal Entre Naranjos, Bigarade Concentree or L’Erbolario or even Ferrari Bright Neroli for my next bottle of something citric… But until then, I’ll savour every precious overpriced pretentious drop of Portofino, and will keep that beautiful empty bottle until I die, to remind me of what got me started on this insane lifelong quest for the most wonderful smell in the world. For all its many, many faults and its obnoxious reputation, I owe this scent a massive debt of gratitude. Tom Ford, I don’t know whether to thank or curse you for that.

I used a sample today and immediately I get some kind of sunscreen scent, I thought okay it’s probably the alcohol and waited it out.
3 hours later and it still smells like I sprayed sunscreen on my arm.
This is a very subtle fragrance which surprised me.
To be honest, I sort of enjoy this sunscreen scent but I definitely would purchase a cheaper alternative.

This is so beautiful. I’m a sucker for a good neroli, and this is just gorgeous. Zingy, slightly bitter, uplifting, fresh, a dream. I can almost see myself in a quaint rural village in the Mediterranean (and I grew up in rural/suburban Med so I should know!) when I close my eyes and sniff it.
The problem is that, while the fragrance itself is heavenly, the performance is only OK. Way underwhelming for such a high-end fragrance and the big bucks you have to spend to get it. It lasts maybe 5-6 hours total on my clothes, and only about 2 on my skin. Mind you, my skin hoovers up fragrance like a black hole and very few perfumes last on it more than 1-2 hours, but if it’s specifically a TF one with THAT price, I’d expect more.
Would absolutely buy if it was significantly cheaper (like, 70% less), but for that price I’ll not stock up once my sample has run out. It will be beautiful while it lasts, though!

I love this refreshing orange-lemon mimosa sparkler. Pretty linear as far as not having the top/mid/base contrast, and altogether is similar to a saturated orange-citrus, aka juicy. Kind of like a gummi bear, I find myself half drooling feeling like I’m at a fantastic beach in Capri sipping a mimosa with orange trees opening all around. It’s half glam and half peaceful and tranquil.
I try this on at Sephora, but it might go on my to buy list. I keep going back for this one and find flaws in everything else. Does that tell me anything?

I was so incredibly lucky to buy the candle of this incredible fragrance last Friday night. I’d been wanting this for a year or so but just could not justify the price. Anyway, i’ve waited three months for the film ‘Call Me By Your Name’ to get released on iTunes and last week it did. During the waiting of it, I wondered how I could make the evening just perfect. An evening with amazing friends and the perfect film. The film is set in Northern Italy during the summer of 1983. Instantly I realised that the smell of Neroli Portofino would be that definitive scent of the air in northern Italy and voila, only the best candle could replicate this… it had to be a TOM FORD NEROLI PORTOFINO candle. So with Illy espresso (as in the film), San Pellegrino, myself cooking Italian food for my friends and this candle, the evening was perfect.
It’s the best film that i’ve seen in the last 10 years and oh my, this is the most beautiful, delicate, perfect candle that i’ve ever experienced in my life.
    It’s perfect.
Now my house as well as myself can smell of this surfing, summer beach, beach house fragrance. Just perfect!

A perfect summer breeze. So fresh, bright, and, to my nose, natural. This fragrance is light and airy, and takes me right to summertime. Lots of citrus with a mild floral note that does not lean feminine nor masculine, and some sparkly, salty, aquatic vibes as well. Performance is a weakness, especially at the price point, but I wouldn’t expect a fragrance like this to last too long.

After finally smelling this, I would say Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino captures and epitomises what can only be described as a gourmand aquatic. Without getting too dramatic, it does smell a little bit like you’re jumping into the waters of the Mediterranean. More than other classic aquatics like Cool Water, this one is deftly balanced by some truly lovely white florals, plus the bergamot and amber add much in the way of sophistication. However, the relatively poor longevity does not justify the price tag. Sadly I won’t be getting my own bottle, but I will, however, keep getting free spritzes at David Jones…

This is a gorgeous uplifting bright clean citrus scent. It’s very high quality and a step up from the usual aquatic stuff in the designer game. As others have said it may be a bit highly priced for what it is but if you (like me) can find it on notino or something for a decently discounted price I think you could do worse. Highly recommend this for people who want a clean high quality smelling perfume. 100% unisex. 100% love.

I bought a few Tom Ford samples from Lucky scent. My daughter is a huge fan and I am a bit daunted by the high price, not really sure they are worth it yet. But I am trying to be fair. This one is a beautiful citrus, floral to my nose. It is more complex than that, but I am trying to narrow it down some. It reminds me of France in the summertime. It is a summer fragrance, and I cannot describe it any better than Paul did. What a lovely review! But…. sadly to say, it only lasted 2 hours on my skin. It was beautiful while it lasted but I need a fragrance with staying power! Not a tease for 2 hours and then walk away! Please!

    Value Excellent
    Quality Excellent
It took me over 10 years to find my perfect fragrance and Neroli Portofino is it. I fell in love with it within the first one second of its introduction and six years later our love affair continues!
This fragrance doesn’t shout! It’s a true combination of the ultimate ingredients and essential oils that create a lemon, neroli and varied beach/beach house/free/healthy smell. OK, so it fades to become more of a body scent but to me, that’s a great thing as strong fragrance annoys me and gives me a migraine!
Neroli Portofino has a magical scent that comes alive on your body every few hours – I guess as ones body heats up. It appears and it’s truly incredible. This is the kind of cologne that you’d spray all over your naked body after the most incredible rainforest shower in a beautiful beach house before your day is greeted by the sunshine, beach and heartfelt friends!
The fragrance from it is sexy, stylish, chic, young, innocent, contemporary whilst being modern retro at the same time!
It’s PERFECTION. It’s the ultimate tanned, body smell. It’ll transport you to happy times in Portofino, Italy or at that glamour beach house in the South of France. It’s perfect for surfing in, a day on the beach or a classy opera/ballet/restaurant with friends. It’s perfect for wearing with a T shirt and shorts OR a fitted suit. It’s elegant but young, stylish but never pretentious or vulgar.
There’s nothing like it for summer and summer night dreams. It’s glamorous, fragile almost, incredibly elegant and full of dreams! It’s sexy, it’s perfect and you’ll love it – but don’t tell anyone – it’s our secret!

Unfortunately it lasts very little on the skin, at least on mine. It’s very expensive, and can’t imagine spraying that too many times since the lasting power is very weak.
Neroli Portofino is 100% a summer scent, fresh, enjoyable, different from all the usual citrusy ones that are created for the warmer months. It’s perfect for nights by the sea… close eyes and dream.

Despite having a colder than usual summer this year, Neroli Portofino allowed me to still experience summer in a bottle. I normally don’t enjoy clean and fresh fragrances because they can feel too much like cleaning products. However; Tom Ford was able to achieve the perfect balance between crispness, fruitiness, and floral.
It’s vibrant and effervescent; it reminds me of champagne on an Italian beach or something. Any time I travel to a beach destination, I’ve always found myself bringing this fragrance along. My only gripe with it, is its wear time – some days it’ll last hours and others it’ll only last one. I’ve been able to prolong its wear by applying a water based makeup primer to the areas I intend to wear it on and have noticed it’ll last on me eight+ hours.

I just got a decant of this, as I will never ever be able to afford a bottle. I was excited to get this; based on the reviews it sounded like something I’d love. And I have to say, I do love it, except it wasn’t as exceptional as I thought it might be for the price tag. I did see reviews comparing it to the 4711 cologne, so I guess I should have had an idea of the kind of scent it was, even if I couldn’t recall if I’d smelled 4711 before.
Still, I do love the fragrance as it takes me back to my childhood. At first, I couldn’t really place it, but I did a scan of the reviews and saw some comparing this to Nenuco, which was a huge part of my childhood. Although I couldn’t remember its scent right off the bat, it must be this that Neroli Portofino reminds me of. Really fresh and lovely, but due to the memories, makes me think it could as well be a child’s perfume. Nothing wrong with that, except for how much NP costs. It seems a bit simple for a designer perfume, although it does have a higher quality smell than Nenuco and such colognes. It’s like a luxurious version of these.
Clean and fresh with a citrus opening, I would still love wearing this, particularly on a hot and humid day (which is most days in my country). It makes brings to mind weekends and idle days perfect for lazing around, the summers of my childhood. I will definitely wear it to bring back that feeling of my youth.
However, I wouldn’t ever buy a full bottle, and perhaps will try 4711 instead when I use up my decant.

This is a very nice luxurious smell to me that is one of my favorite scents but just doesn’t last. It disappears. Most people can’t keep this more than a skin scent and its a shame bc it is such a nice relaxing smell that you can wear any time but really stands out in the day time or in summer or spring. Just doesn’t last so can’t comment anymore. No matter how good it smells its wasting money. It is gone in like 30 min. You need at least a couple of hours to justify this bc in general you expect less longevity out of a light scent but this is just too poor.

I can’t lie I was quite surprised how this performed in 95 degree heat! I work in an office but I would go & bake in th sun occasionally throughout the day & everyone I walked by was AMAZED- Grab a decant because a bottle is higher than birds’ nuts!

I will start by saying I am not a Tom Ford fan. I find his fragrances way too pungent for my taste. After reading glowing reviews for this scent, I decided to try it. I don’t understand the reviews that claim this is some kind of masterpiece. On me, this smelled exactly like suntan lotion. If you like beachy scents, there are plenty of options for much less money, such as Bobbi Brown Beach or Replica Beach Walk. Or pick up a bottle of your favorite sunscreen, it’s good to protect your skin. As for my tendency to find TF fragrances pungent, this one wasn’t nearly as strong, and probably would have needed refreshing after 4 hours if I wanted to keep it going. A definitely pass for my taste.

My very first Tom Ford fragrance, an online purchase, a blind buy, though the notes are notes I’d experienced in another fragrances and men’s colognes and the comparisons to frags like 4711 I was alright with having experienced that fragrance before through my late husband who wore it regularly.
Tom Ford: My apologies but I have no idea who the bloke is. Is he an American male model and did he really quit show business to become a perfumer/nose? He is a rather handsome fellow. My impression
