Lovely but linear licorice on me. Black licorice, not sweet. Very much a skin scent, unlike the Zauvage and Ozmanthus delights from her women’s line. I can wear it to the gym and it doesn’t bother anyone, so that’s nice. If this was more of a knockdown blowsy kind of effect I’d be all about it though!

What a spectacular blend! I had the pleasure of speaking with Mesha Munyan at a niche perfume salon, and she shared an anecdote about Moonfest’s provenance. She had designed this fragrance for the guitarist (I believe) of the musical phenomenon, Heart. Who could forget “Alone” or “These Dreams”?
Moonfest conjures an outdoor summer music festival, with tobacco & 420 goodness. A more refined interpretation than Nasomatto’s BA, and certainly not cannabis-forward enough to get you a DUI. On skin, the most notable ‘green’ I get is Tarragon. Coriander’s second most present, and the tobacco has a chocolate-y roundness to it.
Meshaz’ brochure contains slightly different fragrance notes than Fragrantica: Tarragon, coriander, pink pepper, fir, lavender, jasmine sambac, tobacco, vetiver, and cannabis.
Loves this. It sounds like Heart’s guitarist did to.

Gosh jeannechantal you have done a mighty beautiful review! Thank you.
I cannot say anything more (let alone nearly as much) – your wonderful review says it all! I too think this mesmerising, fabulous, other-worlde perfume, is incredible. Your picture has painted exactly my own experience of it. It is sublime.

With „Moonfest“ it’s hard for me to express my impressions in words that really reflect my feelings. The fragrance is so well balanced and so homogenous, I cannot trace or describe any single notes.
The start is sunny and warm with the scent of fresh and slightly sweet hay. It’s the hay that you find on Alpine meadows and includes the smell of the dried herbal plants that grow there. That means, the hay is not a boring, abstractly sweetly smell, but it has aromatic and herbal strength. I can smell the lush green herbal plants that it is made of, while it seems mellow, sunny and friendly (homely) at the same time. I also detect traces of something that reminds me of warm bread with caraway seed. The fragrance doesn’t smell like bread, but it conveys the same deep warmth and the homely feel of comfort that fresh-baked, warm and spicy bread holds.
My inner picture is of childhood: Lying on a haystack on a freshly mown field on a warm, sunny day, nibbling on a caraway bread stick. The scent creates this carefree and relaxed feeling of “Here I want to stay until the sun goes down.”
After some time I notice the scent getting gradually more spicy and also fresher. A dark green, aromatic and slightly minty tone emerges, I believe I can smell black pepper here as well, which gives the mixture energy and the feeling of fresh, spicy air.
Now I seem to smell the edge of the forest near the field that mixes with the soft dry-grass note. The scent turns more “forestry”. I can smell the new green buds on the fir trees and the first green of a forest clearing.
The fragrance is spicy and aromatic, but it’s not harsh or too dark. It is mild and flowing.
After about one hour everything is there that the pyramid shows. A bit of sweet, herbal tobacco, a pinch of clear and light lavender, a bit of cannabis (and I smell the plant, which is not sweet but has a slightly tart green edge), I smell mellow greenish and dry herbs, I smell a touch of forest air, and besides everything, or rather, around it all, there still swirls this minty-aromatic, cool freshness (must be the coriander in combination with some herbs, or maybe the vetiver … I have no experience with vetiver so I cannot say) and still the beautiful scent of caraway oil (it’s probably not contained, but that’s what it reminds me of).
The only thing I cannot identify is the jasmine. I don’t smell anything blooming in white, but I guess it plays its part and is responsible for some of the subtle sweetness and the warmth of this fragrance.
In the second half of the drydown “Moonfest” gets more smoky, and it gets a mysterious touch. I don’t know what I smell; my best guess is, there’s a smoky cedar or some other green and smoky woods. This smokiness evokes the picture of having entered the forest at dusk. It’s magic hour, almost dark, and between the silhouettes of trees and shrubs there rises this otherworldly, ethereal, fragrant “fog” that creates a fine veil over everything, herbs, plants, trees, greenery.
It’s a calm scent with a lot of depth, and it has this eerie (meant in a positive way) twist to it. Lots of things are going on in this fragrance; it’s thrilling, as there are wafts of different things that are hard to grasp. It’s tantalizing (also meant in a positive way). It’s hard to explain by words, it’s playing on a very emotional level. It’s a mixture of memories, of the feeling of unspoiled and untouched nature, and sometimes it seems to evoke pictures of a long-gone time. One of my first thoughts was: That’s how Middle-Earth could have smelled like. The fragrance is like from another world.
