Description

A fascinating and unique combination of green leaves, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Amber and precious Woods, Demeter’s Moonbeam captures the dual nature of the moonbeam, reflecting elements of both the innocence of light and the passion of night.

Inspired by the poetry of Shelley, Moonbeam in a study in the contrasts between light and dark:

See! the mountains kiss high heaven,

And the waves clasp one another;

No sister flower would be forgiven,

If it disdained it’s brother;

And the sunlight clasps the earth,

And the moonbeams kiss the sea;

What are all these kissings worth,

If thou kiss not me?

Love’s Philosophy
by Percy Bysshe Shelley
(1803-1822) Moonbeam was launched in 2012.

    Mysteriously magical scent. Very soft coconut and slight dark brown sugar. A slight orange amber creme’ sensual light scent. DELICIOUS but it also has a dark element to it. It’s dreamy. It’s a Very surprising smell. Different. Demeter is fantastic. They are a very fun company. I’ve been buying sample vials of all the MAGICAL scents and it’s so fun experimenting with them. I love this scent it’s so enchanting and galactic. It’s a magical night for a MOON BEAM

    I got this as a freebie with an order, and it’s not for me. If you’re into feminine chypres this might be for you. This is hippie all the way.

    I don’t get Alien at all from this…it just smells like a cheap sweet generic amber fragrance. The tops notes actually consist of vanilla and chocolate, as listed on the actual site.

    Moonbeam is the perfect name for this. It smells so mysterious & whimsical.. I instantly smell the Lily of the Valley then Amber comes into play with Jasmine. I kind of understand why it’d remind some of Alien but do I think it could be a dupe? No. Moonbeam is much softer & understated whereas Alien is more dramatic & obvious. It’s a classy, comforting & dreamy perfume & has great staying power.

    Demeter fragrances are not assigned genders, but this definitely could be marketed pour homme. It is very delicately spicy, warm and woodsy. It finishes clean and I can even say there is something sexy about it. It is like a more modern Old Spice. Mod Spice.

    Much more ‘perfumey’ than a typical Demeter fragrance.
    When I first tried this it immediately reminded me of standing on a boardwalk, watching the sun set over a marsh in South Carolina. Pretty impressive!
    And then the reason why dawned on me. I don’t want to ruin it for anybody, but this scent reminds me a lot of…Skin So Soft. That’s not necessarily a criticism. I like Moonbeam, it’s definitely lighter and muskier than SSS, but based on the description I was expecting the green and floral notes to be more predominant.

    Soft, dreamy, and pale as moonbeams. Creamy white flowers are backed by warm, almost edible amber. I do not sense any woodiness or greenness, as the notes suggest.
    I do not know TM’s Alien, but it must be lovely because so is this. This is so cozy and sweet; the perfect bedtime scent.

    This scent smells like Alien by Thierry Mugler so its a cheapie dupe for it. I greatly dislike Alien but not this. This is really much softer and lighter than Alien. This is Alien Light. It has the same DNA and the same notes of jasmine and woods. It smells like night blooming jasmines which catch moon beams and glisten in the silvery light of a pale moon. It’s definitely a green chypre and also recreates the scent of wet leaves or wet earth. I can smell the greenery provided by the leaves and lily of the valley. I like it because it is so much lighter than the atomic bomb that is Alien. Like with most Demeter frags this has a short life. It’s all over in about an hour and a half sometimes I’ve timed it and lasts exactly an hour. If this scent was on me any longer I might not like it because it would start to remind me of Alien which lasts an incredibly long time. I am glad that this scent has such a short life and I’ve never been more relieved. Wear this if you like Alien but would prefer a lighter body mist version of it.

    Does anyone else get a piña colada-type note?
    This smells good, but not only did it not smell the way I expected, but the sample I got doesn’t smell like the listed notes.

    This is so nice. The reviewer below me used the word delicate, and I have to agree, it’s the perfect word to describe this.
    I could swear there’s a fruit in here. Something slightly sweet and creamy. It’s a very familiar smell, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.
    I don’t get any green from this at all. It’s a creamy, slightly fruity (I think?) floral on me. The dry down is a soft woody vanilla.
    It doesn’t smell what I’d picture a moonbeam to smell like, but then with something so abstract, no two people are likely to have the same thing in mind.
    It’s very pretty, soft and ethereal. Plus, it’s not expensive, which is always a bonus.
    Definitely full bottle worthy for me.

    This is very delicate. Looking at the notes I thought it would be strong, but the amber and woods are gentle and folded into the florals. It’s very well blended and leaves one with a light gentle scent I guess like moonbeam. Its nice for any time of year — warm with the woods and amber for winter, but good for spring and summer with the florals. My only complaint I guess is that it’s so well blended its hard to pick out the individual notes.

    Oh, what a sad disappointment.
    I was dreaming of getting this perfume (a blind buy, you can’t get Demeter in my country) – the notes just seem dreamy. Moonbeam… What a lovely metaphor, what an engaging mental image…
    Yet this scent is very sweet, very strong, and instead of relaxing me, it gives me headache…
    The fragrance itslef is not bad, and bears some resemblance to Mugler’s Angel, but it’s just not my type of scent at all.
    I guess that those who enjoy sweet and yummy scents will love it.
    I really wish I could…
    Longevity and sillage are both very, very good.

    Imagine a warm night looking at the moon over a calm lake. Jasmine and lily of the valley scent the air as well as the woods nearby. Amber in the wood adds a little more sweetness to make this scent even more romantic. Very enjoyable!

    I like this, but I don’t wear it often. My husband describes the smell as ‘country club’ saying it reminds him of the wealthy women he used to serve drinks to, back in the day. I’m not sure if its a compliment or an insult, to be honest, but its not really the feeling I’m going for. But, it really does smell lovely, though I think the name doesn’t really describe it.

    This perfume is a bit out of character for Demeter, as it is an abstract perfume rather than a realistic sensory portrayal of a scent. I received an oil roller ball of this scent for free from Demeter with an order. On my skin it is soft lily of the valley, vanilla, chocolate and a woodsy/amber base. Kind of smells like an expensive candle, but I like it.

    This one made me go “oooooh!”
    Anything with the word “moon” in its title, I have to try. I’ve got a thing for the celestial. But even if it weren’t called “Moonbeam,” I would love this. It’s a scent I don’t need to think about. One spritz and I thought, “Yeah, this is me.”
    But is it a “moonbeam?” It’s a clear night, with a warm breeze rustling through the leaves and flowers. The imagery this brings to my mind is lovely.
    It doesn’t last long at all on my skin, but it does if I spray my clothes. I wore it to bed spritzed on a t-shirt and could smell it in the morning.
    My first Demeter trial was a success.

    This smells much better on the skin than it does from the bottle. In fact, I very nearly gave it away without trying it because it was a blind buy and I didn’t like the smell coming from the bottle. This is the nicest lily of the valley I’ve tried so far, and it plays well with the jasmine, and the amber mellows it out and keeps it somewhat in check. This is a very nice surprise for me. Light and summery.

    I agree. Does not smell as I would expect with the notes listed. More of a heavy “sweet-ish” scent.

    I’m not sure where the “green” is in this fragrance. I absolutely adore it, and wear it often as it’s one of those fragrances that’s a little sophisticated but still very pleasing to just about everyone. Three different people told me they smelled cinnamon, which isn’t listed, but is definitely there. It must be the jasmine and amber mix. Regardless, there’s no green whatsoever to my nose. It’s very creamy, warm, fuzzy, and a little reminiscent of winter holidays, but still would be a fine choice for a summer evening. Moonbeam is a most decidedly non-linear Demeter, which is odd for Demeter. I love it.
