Description
Banana Republic has launched a new fragrant pair, embodiment of the modern and easy-going style of the house and thus named appropriately Modern Woman and Modern Man.
The masculine version, Modern Man, blends cold and spicy notes in an aromatic composition created by Irina Burlakova and Vincent Kuczinski of Mane. The fragrance introduces top notes of Sparkling Watery Accord, Red Seaweed, Juniper and Grapefruit. The heart adds scents of Japanese Radish, White Cyclamen and Tamarind, while the base closes with intense aromas of Rain Forest Patchouli, Solar Musk, Vetiver, White Birch and Incense.
Banana Republic Modern Woman and Modern Man arrive in classic glass flacons with pattern characteristic of the heritage of Banana Republic. The difference is in bottle shapes – bottle for men is square-shaped while the edition for women is circular. Both fragrances arrived on some markets in late 2014, while they can be expected on all other international markets in early 2015. The edition for women can be purchased as 30 and 50 ml EDP, while men’s version is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml EDT.

Just picked this up last week at Marshall’s for $20 US. I am trying not to buy anymore cheapies but was curious about this and blind bought based on descriptions here.
Some fragrance reviews/descriptions can be all over the place, but most of the comments here are spot on. This is a very pleasant, clean fragrance that is perfect for the office, the gym, or anytime you are going to be in close quarters for a few hours and aren’t trying to seduce anyone.
Very clean. I get the grapefruit and juniper berry blending with a light patchouli and musk. The rest of the listed notes are so subtle as to be nonexistent.
This is an EDT and is not a performance monster by any means. So I advise spraying 6-7 times including clothing. You could go to the gym or out for coffee an hour later and smell great without offending anyone.

Quite nice, mellow and inoffensive office save scent. The name “modern” fits perfectly. Nothing spectaculair, won’t buy it again but no regrets buying it in the first place. The bottle is one of the most gorgeous bottles I have ever seen, much more classy than the scent itself. Nice try!

I received one as a gift and I use this as an emergency fragrance. I always leave it in the car glove compartment and just in case I forgot to put on a cologne after leaving the house, I use this and it’s really a nice scent.

really enjoy this very clean, elegant scent. a lot to like here, from the fresh opening to the clean dry down…unfortunately, like a lot of Banana republic fragrances, goes to a skin scent relatively quickly.

Stunned and sad that this one doesn’t get nearly the amount of love and attention it deserves.
Woody, but a “bright” zingy, citrusy woody fragrance that is absolutely perfect for summer. So many fragrances such as Cool Water, Bvlgari Agva Amara, etc…..this beats those by a long shot! It’s absolutely perfect! No notes stand out…it’s beautifully blended. Price couldn’t BE more reasonable. The bottle is modern as the name suggests, attractive without being gaudy, and same goes for the smell. It doesn’t scream out anything but it certainly will get you compliments with it’s refined, classy yet refreshing scent!
It’s woody, it’s citrusy, it’s CLEAN! I’m so sad this doesn’t and probably will never get the love and attention it deserves. And yes…this is BLIND BUY SAFE! It’s perfect and versatile for a huge range of ages. I’d say a 20 year old can wear this, as well as a 50 year old man. It’s perfect for the gym, perfect for a date, perfect for cuddling and staying in, perfect for a lunch date, this one is just so pleasant and clean. Versatile as can be!
Scent Itself – 9/10
Performance – (My only semi-complaint.)
Longevity – About 4 hours.
Sillage – About 2 feet. If you spray 9 or 10 sprays…you can get 3-4 feet of throw.
However, price is very reasonable so I don’t mind reapplying half way through my day.
Overall Rating – 8.5/10
BEAUTIFUL MODERN SCENT!! Packaging and the name is a true representation of how it smells. I’m in love. Thank you Banana Republic! My #1 Banana Republic fragrance so far! A true hidden gem!

Somehow I collected four BR fragrances. They are like my CK. Easy, inoffensive, attractive and affordable.
Modern Man can be described as a modern cologne. I could even call it unisex.
It’s a nice fragrance, “clean and fresh” but not original. Still, I love to wear this perfume, it’s ideal for work or any place where you should wear a “safe” fragrance.
The dry down leaves a soapy musky kind of scent.
You can’t go wrong with Modern, my advise is that if you see a bottle, grab it.

The opening is cool and masculine. It’s the smell left in the bathroom about an hour after a nicely groomed guy gets ready. The temperature has come down, but there’s still a hint of moisture in the air and the smell is fresh and clean with undercurrents of shaving soap (aromatics) and cologne (sporty citrus). I don’t find it uncomfortably masculine to wear, more a pleasant aura of cleanliness. The drydown becomes a light floral and vetiver skin scent. Nice for when I want to feel clean and cool.

I always used to like Modern Man…it’s a nice soapy green vetiver scent with a mishmash of other, more herbal notes. The staying power is almost nil, and it’s definitely a skin scent. Guerlain Vetiver Sport, on the cheap.

Woah these notes look like an impending disaster. Seaweed,water notes, radish?, and cyclamen mixed with grapefruit! Yeesh. What kind of nonsense is “rainforest” Patchouli? Or “solar” musk? Of course it could be great, so don’t take my cynicism too seriously but with these notes, it seems like this was created to smell like the day after a Tsunami destroys a village. Elegant bottle though.
